Book 1 of The Gold Heart “Through Everything” — the start of an academic romance with diverse voices. Follow Giselle and Hendrixx, as they share the origin story to an elite group of entrepreneurs and their messy love lives.
When Giselle, gets an offer to transfer to the prestigious South Gold Heart Academy; the last thing she ever imagined was to befriend the school's golden child and a group of talented individuals, she'll soon call family. For Giselle, her senior year will come with a new level of opportunity, as she steps closer to achieving her dreams and unexpectedly... a first love.
For Hendrixx, comes the exact opposite. His perfect world will start to crumble when his admired relationship is fated for destruction, and his emotions begin to blur the lines of friendship.
The group better prepare because the SGH Academy is just the beginning before they take on the one and only, South Gold Heart University.
I can say I really enjoyed this book, being an adult, Through Everything brought me back to high school drama. Which I enjoyed!!! I love the fact that the ending of the book shows a glimpse in the main characters young adult lives and the author leaves the reader on a cliff hanger on Giselle’s future.
I’m not gon lie😬…I thought BookTok was gon give me another fool ass book recommendation. But A.K. Dailyy sure came through with this one 🤌🏾
[I haven’t come across enough good books while scrolling on TikTok and I’m glad I happened upon this black creator. 😊]
Now let’s get into this book…
🤣- For one, I’m loved the characters through and through. Ion know if it’s dry humor or not, but I was laughing the entire time
😬- Next, though I know Henny and Giselle will probably be together in the long run, I can’t help but hope for Kai and Giselle instead.
🙄- It’s like Henny and Giselle are a nice pairing but I like the best friend vibe. Especially since I didn’t really like the way Henny started acting when Kai and Giselle were getting closer.
☝🏾- I felt like if certain circumstances didn’t arise, he’d still be in a relationship while also clinging onto Giselle and I’m just not for it.
🤏🏾❤️🩹- Also I felt like we didn’t have enough Kai and Giselle moments. At least not enough for Henny and Giselle to be a thing anytime soon… At least not 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲.
I want to enjoy them before they eventually spoil… at least this once… 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲—I’m 𝘣𝘦𝘨𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 for them to at least just dissolve naturally/neutrally. 𝗣𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲?!🙏🏾🗣
^I’m sorry but most books make the second love interest crumble so that it’s easier for the MC to decide. I’m just tired of that route, I kinda like the ✨𝘉𝘪𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘵✨ feeling. Or the “damn. It makes sense and I like it, but—damn 😔” feeling. You get me?
Regardless of those few things, I really did enjoy the story and I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series. 🤗😛
P.S.//Somebody swing me a Kai—cause 𝙶𝙰𝚆𝙳. 𝙳𝙰𝙼𝙽. 😮💨😩

I saw an aesthetic video the author made and saw it was a debut novel with black main characters so I ran to pick it up. I really enjoyed reading this! This book tells the story of a new Black girl at a new school and the group of friends she quickly becomes acquainted with. The author does a good job of creating a solid friend group that you can tell loves one another. The editing isn’t the best, which made it a little difficult to get through, and there’s a major time jump that skips over what I think was key character development opportunity. The story will continue, so I will be tuning in to see what happens next — but I have no doubt with some better editing the author’s future releases will only get better and better.
Literally made a goodreads account just so I could review this book. Followed the author on tiktok and bought her book on impulse and it was definetly worth it. Follows Giselle a school oriented girl who transfers to a new school, known as SGHA, which gives her opportunities to better her knowledg efor for the career in media she wants to pursue. With her sister, Gilina, by her side she starts to get out more, such as going to parties and sports events that leads her to meeting her forever friend group. She fits in right away but being the new comer in this tight knit group brings on challenges that tests the closes of them, which can either make or break the group. Such as testing loyalty and stability of relationships but at the same time allowing the group to become their better selves and hopefully learn from their mistakes. When the truth revelas itslef Giselle is faced with having to chose between her unofficial-offical boyfriend, Kai, and friend who has feelings for her, Hendrixx, which will she choose. Or will she battle her thoughts of loving them both.
Me personally, I'd much rather see this book and author get recommended on booktok than the same recycled stuff. So if you're looking for something new definitely read this book because for me it was a breath of fresh air and something new that I haven't come across in a while.
As a 37 year old woman I didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. I guess that's why they say don't judge a book by it's cover. I would go as far as to say don't judge a book by it's description either. lol I truly enjoyed this book and it brought about full on nostalgia moments from my transition from HS to College years as a freshman. I would have really appreciated if Henny would have kept his feelings to himself because had he not found out Kenzie was cheating I think he would have still been in a relationship. Kai and Gissy deserve love and each other. I'm rooting for the good guy in all of this and cannot wait for book 2. Although, I gave this novel 5 stars the only con I have is I wish there wasn't such a large gap in time. I wanted to be apart of those last few weeks of HS and the first years as young adults or college students. Things happened in that timeframe that I feel like we missed out on. It may just be me but I wanted all the small moment with Kai and Gissy.

This started out feeling like a typical YA book, but it morphed into something much juicier. It was giving off major Grownish vibes. Giselle was such a dynamic leading lady. She had the boys in a frenzy. Hendrixx was so lovable. I spent the first half of the book hoping for them to become a couple. Then Kai was thrown into the mix and I was torn. I loved the close friend group dynamic. That really made the storyline more enjoyable for me. I loved that the book jumped ahead a couple of years to give us a glimpse of what happened to everybody. The cliffhanger ending was perfect. It gave me the drama that I wanted, and kept me wanting more. I can’t wait to read the next installment. While I was a little frustrated with some of the editing issues, this turned out to be such a fun read. It’s definitely one of my favorite books of the year.
This has been a die hard want to read every since I saw AK TikTok about her book. I was finally able to read it and I can say I enjoyed myself, as someone in college this just hit home because we still deal with drama but on a little higher level because now we can drink lol.
My only problem was how it skip a lot between the times, it gave Wattpad which is not a bad thing it kinda made it easier to read in a sense.
DNF @ 19% - Sad to say this is the first book I’ve ever DNF’d. Don’t think I can do this right now. It’s just not grabbing me enough. Maybe I’ll try again some other time.
