**PART FOUR in the brand new series from Holly Hepburn, perfect for fans of Cathy Bramley and Katie Fforde**
On paper, Merina Wilde has it all: a successful career writing the kind of romantic novels that make even the hardest hearts swoon, a perfect carousel of book launches and parties to keep her social life buzzing, and a childhood sweetheart who thinks she’s a goddess. But Merry has a secret: the magic has stopped flowing from her fingers. Try as she might, she can’t summon up the sparkle that makes her stories shine. And as her deadline whooshes by, her personal life falls apart too. Alex tells her he wants something other than the future she’d always imagined for them and Merry finds herself single for the first time since – well, ever.
Desperate to get her life back on track, Merry leaves London and escapes to the windswept Orkney Islands, locking herself away in a secluded clifftop cottage to try to heal her heart and rediscover her passion for writing. But can the beauty of the islands and the kindness of strangers help Merry to fool herself into believing in love again, if only long enough to finish her book? Or is it time for her to give up the career she’s always adored and find something new to set her soul alight?
I’ve wanted to write books for adults for as long as I can remember but I was too scared to try. One day I decided to be brave and dipped a toe into the bubble bath of romantic comedy with my first novella, Cupidity, and I’ve never looked back. I often try to be funny to be funny, except for when faced with traffic wardens and border control staff. My favourite thing is making people smile.
I’ve tried many jobs over the years, from barmaid to market researcher and I even had a brief flirtation with modelling. These days I am mostly found writing.
I live near London with my grey tabby cat, Portia. We both have an unhealthy obsession with Marmite.
Ah this was such a lovely conclusion to Merry's story but I really really REALLY hope that this isn't the last we've seen of this setting because I, for one, am not ready to leave yet! Please tell me there's more.
This last installment just solidifies the whole series mentality of community and new friends. It also says a lot about found family. Merry and Jess are so close knit and we get to find out more about their relation ship as friends who are basically family in this last installment. Merry has also made so many new friends as writer in residence and seeing her become part of the community was really lovely.
This book is also a whole love letter to books and the power that they have. And also libraries and how important they are especially in more remote commentaries like this. This finally installment has just as much wonderful description of the crashing waves and the craggy rocks as the previous offerings and I just felt like I was there with Merry in her cottage, a large dram of Highland Park keeping me company (yes i ordered some after reading the first book) and I really am not ready to leave.
I loved getting to meet Merry and the gang and I would love to catch up with them again next year. I really recommend this series and now you can read all four parts together!
Holly did again! She brought in a cast of characters that were charming, funny and likable. Even her secondary characters were enjoyable. She even made the Orkney Islands a character by the use of the natural scenery and tourist attractions. I've read all her series but I think this book wanting to read until the ending. Actually, I didn't expect it to turn out the way it did but I love it. Now spilling secrets her. You must read the series from first to last to understand what transpires. I hope you love it too! Holly, I can't wait for and series!
I really like Holly's books and have loved this whole series. I didn't expect that particular ending, in my mind I'd written something else! There was only one thing that bugged me a little. In one of the previous books in the series Holly writes that Merry's parents have already died (fairly close together) then in a later book Jess asks how Merry's parents are in Australia! Apart from the little inconsistency I thoroughly loved it and would recommend it.
A great ending to another brilliant book by Holly Hepburn. I've loved every page of this story, even more so because it had a literary theme. Can't wait for her next book.
Really enjoyed the 4 stories that made up this series, a lovely heartwarming tale that also makes you want to visit Orkney and see all the things that Merry saw!!
Part 4 Merry and Niall were always meant to be together a satisfying ending to a lovely series. Some beautiful descriptions of Orkney made me yearn to visit a d stay awhile
This is my favorite part of the series where lots of secrets come out and the ending is exactly how I wanted it to play out from the start - amazing series.
As Merry's 6 month tenure as writer in residence comes to a close , she realises she is nowhere near ready to say farewell to Orkney or a certain someone.
