Trouble Comes in Threes #2

When the Clouds Part

Rate this book
Starting over should’ve been Donovan’s biggest concern after the tsunami and hurricane that changed his life completely. However, instead of being able to focus on his future and rebuilding his life, he’s left with a thousand questions. What comes next? What does a baby need? And most importantly…what does he think about the surprising new side of himself Trey brings out in him?

Trey knew there were more important things he should be focusing on…but the only thing that he can think about is Donovan. Well, his cute dork and the thousand questions he can’t answer. Like, where is his mother? Is college still what he should be focused on? What will Donovan’s parents think? And even scarier ones…like what makes a family?

With their world in limbo, it doesn’t take long for everything to boil down to one simple question. How do you know when you’ve fallen in love?

Sometimes it takes a zombie apocalypse ( or a hurricane lol) to really make you see yourself clearly....

Donovan and Trey have been dancing around the periphery of each other's lives without having the courage to really own up to their mutual feelings for each other. All those school years were not enough, nope it was gonna take a natural disaster for these two young men to grow into their roles...

Donovan thought he was too obnoxious and so dramatic with no people skills, having overly zealous parents poking into his life was yet another obstacle.

Trey's whole life had exploded, what did he have to offer anyone, besides he had to care for his bay sister too.

In book 2 Trey is letting out his Dom to play more with Trey's sexy sub side. It has taken a lot of teasing, blushing, and blunt talking for them to find their love and passion for each other. The boys really grow more confident with each passing day and each scene, Donovan is such a curious, sweet sexy sub, who is so very happy to have a Dom to take all the burdens from his life. The boys balance each other beautifully, and with baby Sam and D's nosy parents the clouds truly part for this couple.

A very enjoyable and funny read.

There was just not enough tension here for me, and I got bored very quickly. The disaster / danger is virtually nonexistent, and the main tension is fending off Donovan’s overly intrusive parents. The kink exploration was sweet but not enough to keep a 280 page book interesting. Just wasn’t for me.

When the Clouds Part is the second book in the Trouble Comes in Threes. It's the sequel to When the Storm Comes, Donovan and Trey's story. I loved their story. It was sweet, cute, sexy, fun, full of feels and very well written.

Re-read 6/6-7/23: I love Trey talking to Donovan's parents to (hopefully!) get them to stop speculating over the relationship and making Donovan nervous -- so funny!

Original review: I'd be happy to read more stories about Trey and Donovan

First of all, I loved - LOVED - When the Storm Comes in all its post apocalyptic glory. MA Innes tackling the stress of our two main characters in her soft and squishy way was absolutely balm for my barely-hanging-on-for-the-past-two-years soul. MA Innes is probably the least angsty writer I know, so going into this I knew that even with the heavy topic it is, it was still going to be a light, lovey read. And it is. That being said, I had hoped for somewhat more of dealing with the fallout from all the natural disasters in book two. Book one was primarily them getting to the cabin and starting to adjust to their new lives. Book two seems to skip ahead slightly and starts with Donovan’s parents arriving. The scenes with his parents are fantastic - having Trey take over and deal with their questions…makes me smile just thinking about it. It wraps up questions like “what happened to Trey’s mom” and acknowledges Trey and Donovan’s trauma without being a roller coaster ride of emotions. But by book two we don’t see much of the rest of the world or some of the real struggles they would have like income, food sourcing, medical care etc. — these issues are touched on but sort of glossed over and book two is really more focused on the development of Trey and Donovan’s relationship. Donovan is so incredibly introverted that the primary reason their relationship works is the fact that they’d known each other for so long, so I can buy it; however,

*spoiler alert*

I did struggle a bit with the transition into puppy play. While MA Innes writes some great puppy play (Flawed Perfection is still one of my favorite comfort reads of all time), for me this seemed to come out of left field a bit and I struggled to fit Donovan into that role.

Even with those couple of bumps, this is still an excellent duet that I would highly recommend if you’re looking for something with a seemingly difficult topic that’s actually a fairly light read. As a side note, the book series is Trouble Comes in Threes, but it’s a duet. I know the threes refers to the disasters in the novel, but I keep thinking it’s going to be a three part book Every. Single. Time.

All in all it was worth the read. I enjoyed the characters and loved the potline. I thought MA Innes could have done a little more with the underlying plot and the some of the twists and turns in the relationship development were a bit out of character for me, but overall would still recommend. I was provided an arc for an honest review.

I like the first one a lot more than this one. Honestly it's a 2.5 ⭐ for me. I was glad when I finished the book.

I was hoping it would be funny, especially when Donovan's parents finally arrived. It had the potential to be ott funny but it felt more like the author was trying, but just didn't know how to reach it, at least to me it felt like that.
Probably because I disliked the characters more in this one.
Trey still fucking overused the word dork (once would have probably been too much). The whole best Dom ever shtick was so so annoying and Donovan still got treated unfairly.

The conversations were awful, I don't know if that was the case in the first book too but wow. Every time they talked they had to disrupt it with some kind of variation of 'youre weird', 'youre evil', 'youre ridiculous'. Or Trey has to tease *eye roll and Donovan had to think long about his answers, it would stop the flow of the conversation.

Trey was portrayed as this mature dominant man that could handle Donovan's parents but didn't really handle his mother well. On the other hand his giggling is out of control. Is he taking some kind of drugs that made him giggly and laugh at basically everything?
Also what's wrong with him? He wants a Sex Dungeon in his boyfriend's prepper house's workshop? The boyfriend he is only dating for a few weeks? He wants a Sex Dungeon, suuuure. Let's let the in-laws pay for some spicy extras the carpenter can put in.

Speaking of Sex Dungeon, the sex. Ugh, too much, way too many sex scenes and way to little slice of life and love story for me.
Again not a fan of bdsm but it's whatever, after this book though, I don't want to read the words dom and sub for a while. Donovan is, till the last few pages of the book, still a virgin when it comes to penetrative sex but what are they doing instead you ask? Sex toys like flogger or puppy play incl. mask and butt plug tail etc. Maybe I'm a prude but why not work you're way up to it, instead of going full on kinky before making love to your boyfriend.

The epilogue was really cute but didn't answer some of my questions. I'm not mad I read it but I don't know if I want to reread it or recommend.

Wow....this was such a great conclusion to Donovan and Trey's story. I loved seeing them grow together as a couple, Dom/sub, and co-parents to little Sam. I finally got the "I love yous" that I wanted so desperately in Book 1. Donovan's parents showed up for a brief time. They seemed very sweet but extremely nosy and judgey. I was happy when Trey went into Dom mode and let them know they were making Donovan uncomfortable.

I also love how Trey just knew Donovan. That he could read him so well and was able to tailor what they were doing to fit Donovan's needs. Trey really grew into an outstanding Dom. The puppy play section was hot and sweet. The story of how Trey bought the puppy hood with Donovan in mind was perfect. I also really enjoyed the "mancave/playroom" that Trey was building in the workshop. My favorite scene was when he used the flogger for the first time in the playroom. It was everything.

I loved how the setting played such a role in their story and how they were building a life together there and not just surviving the storm. "Because the clouds have parted and the world is beautiful and ready for us to explore

I think I would have liked to have seen the epilogue just a little but further into the future, but that a minor thing. I really, really enjoyed this duet. Donovan and Trey will be remembered.

I received an ARC from M.A. Innes for my honest review

I was really hoping to see some improvement in the second book of this series, but I was sorely disappointed. I really just don’t like Trey as a character. The book was well-written, the plot itself was good, but he...him I could do without. I think the only thing I appreciated about his “Dom” personality was always checking in with Donovan on how he was feeling and what he was thinking. Aside from that, I really just don’t like him. I don’t like how often he laughs at Donovan’s expense or finds joy in his embarrassment. The number of times he thinks to himelf how great of a Dom he is, it just screams insecurity or like he’s trying to convince himself that he’s better than he is. If he could’ve just laid off Donovan a bit and not laughed at him so much, maybe I wouldn’t have spent the whole book disliking him. Plus, he was always thinking about punishments for Donovan’s sassiness, even when outside of their scenes. It was never discussed that it was a 24/7 D/S dynamic, so punishing him for things outside of a scene just feels unfair and out of line.

Donovan and Trey are back, and their story has only gotten better.
Their BDSM relationship has grown stronger, which has only brought the young men closer together. There are some very hot scenes here, always wrapped in sweetness and humor. Trey's well meaning but nosy parents show up, which gives Trey the chance to prove just how worthy he is as Donovan's dom.
Sam is still the best baby girl, never interrupting the guys at inconvenient times. (Haha!) I love this little family!
There are definitely moments of sadness in this installment, but the main storyline remains sexy, funny, and loving. There is a lot of heart here, and I dare you to read this without smiling a lot. This is a great romance!

This is the second part of Trey and Donovan’s story. I enjoyed this one greatly, I loved the first one and feel this one followed it perfectly. I am loving this series so far and can't wait for the third.
The relationship these two have is great and the story just grows when you put Sam and Donovan’s parents in too. They are sweet together and Donovan parents are just weird and funny.
I enjoyed the first exploration into puppy play and greatly enjoyed the little epilogue, I see Trey finally got his chickens! Yes! I was routing for him throughout.
Another great read from M.A Innes
I received an ARC copy and am leaving my honest thoughts and review.

Being a sub is hard work.
This book continues the story of Trey, Donovan and their family. Here we see how they work growing his relationsip, as boyfriends, as a family and as a Dom and Sub.
One thing I really dig here is the double POV, because in first person novels sometimes I feel I`m missing half the story, and M.A. Innes goes from one character to the other seamlessly.
I really enjoyed seeing Donovan feelings and Trey reactions to them.
Truth is I would love a third part a couple years later to see how the kinks have worked. Even one with Sam going to college. Was difficult to say goodbye to them

I enjoyed the conclusion to Donovan and Trey's story and how they became a real family. Donovan's parents were a hoot and I was so glad that they moved out because it was definitely hard for them to explore their D/S relationship with them there. I was glad that things had started to normalize and that Donovan was able to go to another college. I loved their "dungeon"in the workshop and that Donovan found peace and enjoyment in puppy play. I was snorting at the demon rooster who hated him and laughed when Sam did indeed say "daddy, fuck". They are a wonderful couple and they are deeply in love and it was only getting better at the end.

This is the second book in this duology and it is not a standalone. Trey and Donovan are dealing with the aftermath of the hurricane and the tsunami. At the same time they are trying to figure out their relationship and take care of Trey's three month old sister. I don't want to say a lot because I don't want to spoil the first book but I can say that in the second book you will find some really funny situations with Donovan's parents, adorable moments with baby Sam and of of course more beautiful scenes between Trey and Donovan as they explore their desires.

When the sun shines through

This was absolutely the perfect compliment to the first book. Donovan and Trey are starting to settle into their new life and their new relationship. Even the arrival of Donovan's parents isn't enough to detour these two from exploring more of their Dom/sub roles. I loved how Trey was completely adamant that they talk everything through and how he was continually checking in with Donovan. I thoroughly enjoyed this duo of books, but then, M.A. Innes is a one-click author for me. High kink with lots of feeling! 10/10 Highly recommend!

When the clouds part is the second part of Troubles come in Three, the story about Donovan and Trey, two guys finding their life back after a tsunami. It’s also a story about theses two guys finding their places in a kinky relation ship combined with a baby.

As usual we get from the author a great romance with a lot of steamy scenes and also scenes to laugh.

I love these kind of story’s, you can dive in and forget the real word.

I hope we‘ll semiretired from Donovan and Trey and lost not least of the cute baby Sam.

Perfect!!!
This is so good I didn’t want to leave the world. Being familiar with the area made the visuals even more vibrant for me. And I adore Trey and Donovan. I can see how crazy Donovan’s parents can be and I love little Sam. I hope we get to see more of these guys. I thought the neighbor tie in was great too. I can just imagine what this would do to all the characters in her books. I can’t praise these two books enough.

Great follow-up

I think that this was a fantastic follow-up to book one. I love how Trey and Donovan's relationship grew and developed. I had some good chuckles when Donovan's parents were at the house and how much he gets stuck in his own head.

Trey does his best to take care of Donovan and Sam. He is there for the two most important people in his life and loves his small family. I think they are all wonderful characters and I'm going to miss them.

Wow

I just love it. Watching the relationship evol e for Trey and Donavan was heart warming and intriguing. I love seeing how Donavan's parents were part of it and their level of acceptance. Then there is Sam...the love that little one has from everyone is amazing and as it should be. I really enjoy Trey and Donavan and would love to keep reading about them. Their quirks and how they interact is just great

With setting up home for themselves and Sam, and their relationship growing, so much has changed for Donovan and Trey.
Trey spends his time making Donovan blush over thinking things. But at the same time Donovan is living all aspects of their relationship.
Love how Donovan 's parents were towards Trey being like a son to them and how they found out about his mother's whereabouts.
Epilogue was perfect , could lead on to a third book
Highly recommend but need to read book 1 first

Loved it!

Despite the circumstances bringing them together, this is a sweet story with a satisfying HEA. Donovan’s parents added some fun conflict to the situation and the growing relationship between Trey and Donovan, along with their exploration into different aspects of their dynamic, made this an excellent follow up to the first book. The only thing I don’t love about this book is that it appears this will be the last we see of Trey and Donovan.

In love

This is the finale book in the duet. Though I would love a follow up showing a few years down the road. I really want to see Trey get to sub to Donavon. I know Donnie is definitely submissive, but Trey needs it on occasion too. He's switch and expressed his needs early on. That could be an incredible scene.
I just can't say enough about how much I love this series and this author. Always a pleasure.

Continuing from book one, Trey and Donovan are dealing with the aftermath of the tsunami and hurricane.
Added to that is the new dynamic of their relationship, Trey’s baby sister and Donovan’s parents, navigating through life is not as easy as they think.

The conclusion of this duet is an engaging read with humour, kinky scenes, family drama and a lovely ending. A thoroughly enjoyable, absorbing read.

Love these guys

Waiting until July 8 of course was understandable, MA Innes needs time to write the stories we love. But waiting for the book was harder than normal since I loved the storyline and the guys in book one. I had to make myself slow down and not read the entire thing in one sitting. Definitely one of my favorites.

Liked

Liked it but didn't love it. I think it had to do with Trey for me. I find it hard to picture a Dom who giggles so much. I kept getting lost as to who was talking as both Trey's and Donovan's personalities are pretty similar. And the use of the word dork was a little much. However, I did enjoy the BDSM scenes esp the puppy play.

Two Halves of a Whole.

MM, Light BDSM, Contemporary, Romance. Easy to read page-turner with great characters. Second book in the series, needs to be read in series order due to the story continuing on from book 1, not a stand-alone read. A fantastic read with lots of humour and heat and MC's that Perfectly balance each other. Guaranteed HEA.

So cute!

The ending! Totally adorable. Ok, so this was part 2 of this story about two guys trying to survive a natural disaster. I didn't expect some parts (chicken dinosaurs) but it was funny and sweet and naughty. Really enjoyed this one.

So sweet!!

Yet another sweet and dirty series from M.A. Innes. Donovan and Trey are such a cute couple. I really loved how from the beginning of book 1 you couldn't quite tell who would be the dom or what kind fit them. And then book 2 just solidified their relationship.

A great story picks up right where the first book leaves off. We see the MCs continue to find how their relationship will work while also dealing with Donovan's parents.
