The series that just keeps on giving! Not satisfied with exploring some key backstory, the series takes a superb flip by focusing on the 'bad guys' from their own perspective! Yet again we get strong female leads like Gabi; we get more abnormal Titan info and essentially we get some substantiative reality reveals. The beauty of these volumes is that I start to ponder who really are the good guys! Another Four Star, 8 out of 12 read.

Attack on Titan Omnibus 8 (Volumes 22–24) is an absolute whirlwind of intensity, betrayal, and revelations that push the series into its most morally complex territory yet. If you’ve been following the story up to this point, this omnibus delivers jaw-dropping twists, heartbreaking decisions, and the kind of existential dread that Attack on Titan does best.

This stretch of the manga focuses heavily on the fallout from Eren’s shocking actions and the growing divide among the characters. The tension between the Eldians and Marleyans explodes as the story shifts into full-scale war mode, and the characters are forced to confront the horrifying consequences of their choices. Eren’s transformation into a more ruthless, enigmatic figure takes center stage, leaving readers questioning his motives and whether the ends truly justify the means. You can feel the weight of the ideological clashes, and it’s brutal watching friends and foes alike grapple with betrayal and survival.

The omnibus also digs deeper into the political and philosophical themes that define the series. From the exploration of freedom versus oppression to the cyclical nature of violence, Hajime Isayama doesn’t pull any punches. The plot is dense, with layers of intrigue surrounding the Rumbling, the military factions, and the fractured alliances within the main cast. This isn’t just a fight for survival anymore it’s a battle for the soul of humanity itself.

Visually, Isayama’s art continues to impress. The larger omnibus format makes the chaotic battle scenes and emotional close-ups hit harder, giving you a better appreciation for the scale of the Titans and the devastation they bring. The panels showing the Rumbling and the Titan transformations are especially breathtaking equal parts awe-inspiring and horrifying. You’ll want to linger on those pages just to soak in the details.

If there’s any downside, it’s that the sheer emotional weight of these volumes can be overwhelming. The pacing is relentless, and there are moments where you feel like you need to catch your breath. Also, Eren’s growing coldness might alienate some readers who’ve been rooting for him since the beginning, but that moral ambiguity is part of what makes the series so compelling.

Attack on Titan Omnibus 8 is a masterclass in tension, tragedy, and storytelling, pulling the series into darker, more thought-provoking territory. It’s a must-read for fans who want to dive deeper into the series’ themes and witness the chaos unfold in a larger-than-life format.

Time jump timeeeeeee. There's more detail in the manga than the anime re: the warriors' mission , which answered some questions I had. Looking forward to getting the scouts back in the next omnibus!

Continuing the history lesson for the world and characters of Attack on Titan a picture of the outside world and politics begins to form. Much of this history informs us about the state of the main characters and the place they call home.

But the history lesson we receive is entirely from untrustworthy sources, each as biased as the last. I don't think we will ever get a reliable source for the history of the world of Attack on Titan and I don't think we actually need one for this story to be complete.

Followed by a time jump we begin to follow several new characters getting to see the viewpoints of the "other side", this works well to humanize them and to give an alternative perspective on the events up to this point. And we begin to see this side's plans and what motivates them.

The volume ends on a cliffhanger that raises additional questions.

Something I think should be noted, is some of the iconify and themes used in this volume and the last raise an eyebrow. The use of them isn't necessarily bad or harmful but it is something I will be keeping an eye on and will seek out other perspectives on as I learn more.

This is my reread of the entire series, so I am aware of every arc, characters, narrative decisions, and the purpose it serves.
So, this is really just my bias speaking but this is my least favourite arc of the series.
It might be because a new cast was introduced quite late in the story and I simply can't connect to them (YES I CANNOT STAND GABI AND YES I GET HER POINT), or I just have a lesser sympathy towards the Eldians in Marley and the Marleyens themselves.
However, the brainwashing and self-hatred of the Eldians in Marley, the very human conversations between each character has always been the draw about attack on titan for me (of course the titan fights help).
There is no clear 'right' or 'winner' in this story, and this is something I deeply relate to and can wholly appreciate in writing.

4.5 stars, (9/10). This may be the best omnibus i’ve read so far… questions are being answered, the world is growing, and characters are developing.

I’d forgotten how much I love AoT in the three months it’s been since I’ve last read a volume.

Ymir is ending is bittersweet but her last words of letter „I have no regets” was one best death in this manga. Scene while owl talks with eren’s father owl is changed with eren. Shocking use of scream of animal titan. Falco first impresion was so goated

Interesting to see the new story arc and how it continues to fill out the main plot.
