Another great entry to the series. I'm always about to throw up my hands with these stubborn people and then they just break my heart. It really is a beautiful balance.

Harrison and Mariella are truly meant to be and I loved watching their journey.

I adored My Funny Valentine, which was my introduction to the Jasper Falls series from Lydia Michaels, and it left me eager to dive into Side Squeeze. I had high hopes for the side character I had enjoyed, the one who left me curious, and I was eager to devour their story. Although I did not enjoy this one quite as much as I enjoyed My Funny Valentine, it was another wonderful read.

I’ll be honest and say that it did take me a little bit to get into this one. There were quite a few things at the start of this one that were clearly linked to prior books in the series, and I felt a bit lost as the only other Jasper Falls book that I have read is the aforementioned book five. Once things were moving, however, this was no longer a problem. It focused much more on the romance, and these elements were in the background. I’m sure fans of the series will enjoy seeing what happened, but you do not need to have read the other stories to appreciate the sense of development. The story can be enjoyed by itself, providing plenty to suck the reader in. While it did not hit quite as hard emotionally as I had hoped, it did leave me invested and smiling.

Without a doubt, this is another must-read for fans of the author and the interconnected stories they have created.

Side Squeeze is a fantastic read. You are going to love Mariella and Harrison. If you are familiar with this series, then you know that Harrison is Erin's brother and Mariella is Giovanni's sister. Harrison is a runner from his problems. He holds in a lot of angry with good reason for his father and being in his hometown of Jasper Falls. Mariella is sweet yet seen as the town side piece. She struggles with her love for Harrison and being able to stay away whenever he is in town. Harrison has always been pulled to Mariella and ran from his feelings. I love how Mariella stands up for what she wants. I love how Harrison finally lets people in and stops running from his relationships. Mariella has a lot of fight in her when it comes to seeing the man Harrison is not what he thinks he is. I love how they move forward toward a second chance. Harrison and Mariella are wonderful together. They pull you in and make you want to know more. I love the connection Mariella and Harrison have. I could not get enough of this one. I loved every moment that is Mariell and Harrison. You need to one click this one now.

I listened to the audio version of this book narrated by Amber Battaglia. The narration was awesome.

I had a harder time with this story than with the others in the series at first. The story just didn't seem as engaging at the beginning. The storyline did pick up as it went along.

This is a second chance at love trope. The first time around, Harrison left town and Mariella. Once they run into each other again, physically they pick up right where they left off and that may be what bothered me so much. There really wasn't any emotional reconnect before they went at it. It made Mariella seem cheap and not thinking much of herself. Harrison definitely had some stuff to work through. He could have used a good counselor.

There was also quite a bit of family dynamics in this story which helped it along. Not bad, but not my favorite of the series.

Thanks for Valentine PR for the gifted copy. All thoughts are my own.

I enjoyed reading Mariella and Harrison's story. Lydia Michaels is really good at taking an unlikable and misunderstood character and making you like them after she makes you understand what made the character so jaded. I definitely didn't like Harrison initially because of the way he treated Mariella and his sister, Erin. Once I understood Harrison better and saw how much he truly did care about Erin and Mariella, I found myself rooting for him and Mariella to be together. Harrison definitely had a lot to work through, but deep down he was a good guy. I'm looking forward to reading the next Jasper Falls book.

Lydia Michaels has done it again. I loved Side Squeeze; it is an incredible second chance at first love story, the sixth book in her Jasper Falls series. Lydia Michaels continues to show that she is an amazing storyteller. I could not put Side Squeeze down and I loved every moment on every page. Who does not love hot sexy men, strong females, and loving friends who always support one another? My favorite part is how Lydia Michaels incorporates the title of the book into the love story with a simple response from Harrison. I really enjoy how the book is told from the perspective of the main characters. I love getting the insight and feelings from the different characters. Side Squeeze is a love story filled with heartbreaking and heartwarming moments. I love the lighter moments where I find myself smiling and laughing out loud. My favorite moments are the ones that pull at my heartstrings that cause me to sigh, as I read the heartbreaking moments. Side Squeeze is filled with such moments, and with so much emotion. It is filled with all those things that we have come to love and expect in a love story, Lydia Michaels truly did not disappoint, especially with the poignant and bittersweet moments that filled this page turner. Side Squeeze is the story of Mariella Mosconi, manager at the new Brick Hotel and her secret high school sweetheart Harrison Montgomery. As Mariella heads into the Brick Hotel for her hotel manager position interview, her boot catches and she falls to the floor. Harrison comes to her rescue, unbeknownst to him that it is Mariella that he is rescuing. It is the first time they have seen each other since Harrison left Jasper Falls ten years ago without telling her good-bye. Harrison is in Jasper Falls for the funeral of his father, the owner of the local hardware store, has recently died. Things quickly reignite between Harrison and Mariella, until he once again leaves her without saying good-bye and returns home to New York. Harrison needs to come to terms with his memories of his abusive relationship with father and life in Jasper Falls. Harrison returns to Jasper Falls to pay the taxes on the hardware store and settle things with his father’s estate. Once again things quickly pick up where they left off and, things change between them. Conversation between them flows so easily, but it is heartbreaking that Harrison cannot share with her the secrets about his past and when he tells Mariella why he left her without saying goodbye. I love the unexpected plot twist that changes things between them and then reunites them. I loved that Side Squeeze is a more than just a romance, there are dilemmas that both Harrison and Mariella are facing that need resolved, they each need to learn to trust again. Harrison believes he is not worthy of Mariella, and Mariella knows that she has needs that Harrison is not willing to fulfill and how she admits her true feelings for him. I love the heart-to-heart conversation that Harrison has with his sister Erin, who helps him realize his feeling for Mariella. I love that he finally admits those feelings to Mariella. My favorite part is the proposal, the proposal’s location, and the significance of the location. I love how the storylines get so beautifully resolved. I love all the chances that Harrison was willing to make in her own life to have a life with Mariella, and the changes Mariella made to have a life with Harrison. I love everything that Harrison did to make Mariella’s dreams come true. I love the epilogue and how it went above and beyond the happily ever after. Side Squeeze is filled with poignant and bittersweet moments as well as plot twists. I love the characters and the family dynamic in Side Squeeze, the characters feel like family and friends. I love how the Mosconis have embraced Erin and Harrison and welcomed them into their family. I enjoyed all the interactions between the characters especially their teasing that made me laugh. I loved all the characters in Side Squeeze, and I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Who does not love family and friends that always have each other’s backs? I thoroughly enjoyed Side Squeeze, who does not love a second chance at love story. Highly recommend this incredible love story and am so looking forward to reading the other books in the series.

This book is a hard one to review for me. The premise of a second-chance romance appealed to me instantly since that is my favorite trope. Like other reviewers before me, I also loved Mariella Mosconi and her spitfire persona. She deserved a man who would worship her and appreciate her sense of family, loyalty, and the love of her small town. However, in my opinion, Harrison Montgomery was NOT that man.

Yes, I get how Mariella held tight to that torch she had for the troubled Harrison. How just by a mere touch to her arm, she would melt all over again and become that heartbroken teenager she was 10 years prior when Harrison fled Jasper Falls. But her being the titled side squeeze for the man she couldn't forget pissed me off. I hated that she fell right back into his arms after being ghosted. And I hated that he allowed her to. And yes, I did appreciate that Mariella knew better and scolded herself and often after Harrison showed up after all this time to help sort his recently-deceased father's affairs. But his penchant for leaving when the going got tough or perhaps when feelings of anger would make him lose his patience drove me crazy. I simply did not like him and knew that Mariella deserved so much better.

Now, that all being said, I will say the last 20 percent or so saved this book for me. I truly loved how Harrison finally allowed himself to feel as his sister Erin, the saint that she is (I would have kicked his sorry a$$ to the curb when he showed up again) encouraged her big brother to finally face his demons and put the past where it rightfully belongs. Erin, along with Giovanni and the rest of Mariella's crazy family offered a bit of levity that I think kind of made Harrison stand up and take notice that maybe he could have a life back in his hometown with the only girl who really did understand him by his side.

There is a ton to digest in this story and at times it often felt repetitive. I also think for me, I would have liked a first-row seat to exactly what transpired between Harrison and his father. I know they were horrible memories but sometimes I need to feel it a bit more for myself to fully understand just what a character has been through. I have enjoyed many of Lydia Michaels's books in the past and truly enjoy her creativity. This one, however, just didn't do it for me and I have to wonder if I had read the prior books in the series, maybe this one would have been more enjoyable for me.

Either way, I won't hesitate to read this author's work again. And I'll just chalk this reading experience as a case of it's me, not you since most seem to love it.

3 stars.

Side squeeze Lydia Michaels
This is a second chance, small town romance

Harrison is Erin's brother
You find out the thoughts Harrison had for "why he had to leave town" the possibility of what would happen if he stayed.
Harrison is now a New York tycoon and is back in their small town to help pay for their father's funeral that Erin wants so the town can say goodbye to Ward.

Mariella is Giovanni's sister
Harrison was Mariella’s first love and when he left town without saying goodbye it broke her heart. Now he's back and all those feelings she had for him are coming back... or were they ever gone.

Lydia Michaels writes fascinating stories where you go with the characters and Lydia always keeps the storyline realistic.

What I really enjoyed most about this book is Harrison he left town and left behind wounded hearts but he became successful in New York and I feel that showed how wrong his father was about him... he didn't need his father's money, he actually better himself than his father did in his own store.
I highly recommend this book,
If you don't like storylines that mention abuse then don't.

It’s been a decade since Harrison believed that the only way to escape his devastating past was to leave town and it would take the death of his father for him to return and now he must face all the people he hurt when he left.

Mariella was planning a future with Harrison until he left with no notice or further contact and left her with so many questions and no answers. Now that he is back the chemistry and connection between them hasn’t diminished over time, but will this be their second chance or is the pain of the past to much to overcome?

This is a story about love, family and healing from the past. It is always fun to visit this wonderful town and the eclectic townspeople, and this story was no exception.

Escaping an abusive father at 17 meant Harrison Montgomery had to leave those he loved behind. Now back in Jasper Falls for his father's funeral, he runs into Mariella Mosconi, his high school sweetheart. Harrison was Mariella's first love and her heart was broken when he left ten years ago. The chemistry between them is still off the charts, but they live two different lives. She's a small town girl and he's a successful New York City entrepreneur. Is there any way to make things work?

I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest, unbiased review. I've really enjoyed this series and this book is a prime example of why. In fact, it is one of my favorites in the series. The book's well-written and it has well-rounded characters. I loved Harrison and Mariella's story. Their love is strong and they have a deep connection, but their path isn't easy. Still, Fate has a way of making things right, in time. This was an emotional and heartfelt story and I was hooked right away, reading the book in one sitting. Second chance romance is one of my favorite tropes and this one was done especially well. Lydia Michaels is an incredible author. Be prepared to laugh and to cry, both tears of sorrow and of happiness. This is a series that I always look forward to reading and I'm eager for the next book. I highly recommend both book and series which I suggest you read in order.

I love these Montogomery siblings! In the previous book we get to know the difficult Erin and it was kinda of a spin in the vilain like Wicked. The book was raw and this one follows the same path. Harrison has suffered abandonment from his mother and cruelty by his father, the only thing he could do was running and he left Mariella behind for ten years. Now, his father is dead, his sister has moved on and married Mariella's brother and he is all alone again. The most interesting thing in this book is that it shows Harrison as he is, a mess! He is rich and has been living in NYC but at the end he is alone and longing for the love of Mariella. A beautiful, raw and super well written book!
I just loved it!

***ARC Provided by the Author***

This is my first title by this author, and I can't lie, I didn't love it.

Mariella is funny and quirky. I liked her a lot and I wanted good things for her. The issue was that I just didn't really believe that Harrison was that good thing. A lot of time was spent in the book building up why he is the way he is, and I believed it. The problem...I didn't believe that he was at the point in his life where he was ready to change who he was to be able to really focus on a relationship. And, that is a problem when the character is supposed to be half of the main couple in a story.

I am unable to recommend this title.

This book hit all the feelings!! Harrison, is back….the boy who left Marciella without even a good-bye. While she is trying to discover herself after graduation, she “falls” into Harrison and their love explodes from there.

Lydia Michaels has a way of writing that draws you in with each character, each book can be read as a stand alone or throughout this the whole series….but you will want to read the whole series.

Award winning and bestselling author, Lydia Michaels, brings all the drama of rural, small-town romance to life in a second chance story of redemption that will pull at readers’ heartstrings.

Harrison Montgomery left Jasper Falls to escape his abusive father when he was only seventeen. Saving himself meant leaving those he loved behind.

Harrison was Mariella Mosconi’s first love, and when he ran away without even a goodbye, he stole her heart. Ten years later, when his father’s funeral brings him home, many unresolved emotions return.

Rekindled chemistry ignites into a passionate fling when two reunited lovers collide. Despite the entwined past these childhood sweethearts share, their present lives are worlds apart. Mariella’s just a small-town girl, and Harrison has become a big time, New York tycoon.

Could they have a future when he is still so haunted by a tragic past, or will he run again?

Loved loved loved Harrison & Mariella's story! I was hooked within the first few pages. Their story was beautifully written and heartfelt. Their journey wasn't an easy one, and will definitely take you on an emotional journey. I laughed, cried while reading this book! Highly recommend!

I love this series. It will work as a stand alone, but there's so much reference to other books, I recommend reading them all. Harrison is Erin's brother (who we first met back in the McCullough Mountain series, then saw more of in Pining for You, and in her own book My Funny Valentine). Their parents really did a number on the two of them, which we learned so much of from Erin's book, its heartbreaking. Erin made such a turnaround in the last book, I was curious to read Harrison's take. I enjoyed their story. I also enjoyed the new Erin, which is hard to believe after having read her in previous books. I liked how the story went back in some flashback scenes to show theor history. Mariella (who we met in Love Me Nots) was a great character, strong yet vulnerable. I loved how she didn't let Harrison walk all over her like you sometimes see in books. I loved seeing her family, and seeing that Italian Mary is still going strong.

Update 6/29/22 - listened to the audiobook narrated by Amber Battaglia. She did an amazing job bringing each character to life filled with their own personality and emotion.

Lydia writes the most beautiful, emotional and heart filled stories. I love this series and this is one of my favorite stories.

Harrison came from a broken/abusive home and left town without looking back. He hurt many people with his actions. He’s back in town, after many years, to help his sister and has to come face to face with the hurt his abrupt departure caused.

Mariella is a small town girl who loves her town as hr family. She is still pining after her first love Harrison. His return to town causes many emotions and pain to come to light.

They are two totally different people now but they still have a strong connection. This is a beautiful story of second chances, forgiving events from the past, learning to love yourself and move forward to a brighter future.

Lydia does a beautiful job with bringing these characters (families) to life and filling the reader with so much emotion, hope and giving us a beautiful HEA.

I loved everything about this, it took me on a wonderful emotional journey pulling me in all directions. Mariella is looking for a job as the hotel manager at the Brick Hotel, while on her way to her interview she happens to have a meet-cute moment with her high school sweetheart Harrison. Mariella is shocked to see that it's him because she hasn't seen him in ten years when he just left without saying a word. Harrison had come back because of a family matter and sparks start to fly the moment they lock eyes again. Harrison and Mariella both have troubled pasts for different reasons and they were able to piece one another's hearts back together and have the beautiful ending that they had, I mean the epilogue was everything and more. This was a beautiful second chance romance.

Mariella Mosconi was rechecking herself in the visor mirror giving herself a pep talk about her upcoming interview for The Brick Hotel's manager job. The Brick Hotel owned by Gage King...Perrin's husband.

This job would either be a new start or a massive humiliation. Gossip traveled fast in the small town of Jasper Falls and she was trying to outrun her bad reputation. A reputation she didn't deserve. She had been labeled as the 'other woman' and villain when Bran had lied to her along with the rest of the town.

His fiance Perrin was actually the other woman since Mariella had been dating Bran first, but regardless she hadn't known about his cheating. But, now it was time to face her past and move on. But that didn't mean she couldn't work there....but Gage King would be her boss....she just hoped he would see her for what she was worth and not her undeserved reputation.

Her goal to make a good impression came to a halt as soon as she stepped in the door when the heel of her leather boot slipped and shot out from under her making her grasp for balance. Unable to catch herself, her knees hit the hard ceramic floor and she watched as the contents of her purse and her resume spilled out onto the floor.

As she was trying to get back her composure and gather her belongings, two expensive male shoes appeared in front of her and asked if she needed help. Not the first impression she wanted to make to her new boss except when she finally looked up it wasn't Gage King in front of her. No, it was much worse...Harrison Montgomery. The man who had left town with no explanation to her, the school, his team...just disappeared and breaking her heart.

I loved this book! It is very well written and the characters are fully developed and relatable. Although this is a standalone novel the stories are interconnected with recurring characters. I would suggest starting with book one to get the full background of everyone in Jasper Falls.

We first meet Harrison in his sister Erin's story My Funny Valentine and to say he wasn't a nice guy is putting it mildly. Mariella wasn't the only person he deserted. He left home without a note or a backward glance. Harrison's backstory can be better understood if you have read My Funny Valentine and it is no wonder that he is closed off and distrustful. His character really grew in this story when he realized he was punishing the wrong people.

Mariella had been ostracized for something she hadn't done. She found out Bran's deceit at the same time as the rest of the town, but no one gave her the chance to explain. I love how even though she loved Harrison she stood her ground and wouldn't let herself be taken advantage of again.

This book is narrated by Amber Battaglia and I fell in love with her when I first heard her in Almost Priest. She is a one-woman show and although these stories are told in multiple POVs she does an excellent job of not only representing both Mariella and Harrison, but I love her accents for the elder women of this huge family.

I absolutely loved the Jasper Falls Series and highly recommend it and Lydia Michaels. The book is action packed from page one, full of angst and smoking hot chemistry!

A Heartfelt Journey! Great Story & Narration🎧

Side Squeeze
Jasper Falls, Book 6
By: Lydia Michaels
Narrated by: Amber Battaglia

This beautifully written and beautifully told story did not just captivate my attention, but it tugged on my heartstrings for the entire book. Lydia Michaels is a gifted author with a wonderful writing style and way with words. The characters and storylines she creates are realistic, easy to relate to and connect with, they are also complex and multi-layered. This is my first “Jasper Falls” book, I enjoyed without having read or listened to the earlier books of the series, though I put those books in my wishlist because I loved his one so much. I have listened to several of her McCullough Mountain books and some of those characters have cameos in this book and it was great to see them, like seeing an old friend and I am sure would be the same with the characters from the other books in this series too. This book is Mariella Mosconi and Harrison Montgomery’s story, the two have history, unresolved history, they were each other’s first love until Harrison up and left without saying a word. Ten years have passed and Harrison returns to Jasper Falls after his father dies, more to take care of business than to go to his funeral. Harrison did not have the best home life, and it has made him a damaged man. Harrison broke Mariella’s heart when he left her without an explanation all those years ago and seeing him again stirred up those old feelings, both good and bad. And after all those years, the chemistry between them still sizzles. But Mariella is smarter, and she knows he will leave her behind again. A tormented Harrison wants Mariella but knows he is not good for her and he does what he does best he runs. His sister, Erin, tries to convince him to stay, open his eyes to a future where they could be a family again, but he still struggles with his inner demons from his past. This is a wonderfully plotted second chance romance, the author put these characters thru the wringer and made them work for their happily ever after, but in the end it was so worth it. Lydia Michaels, thank you for another wonderful story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the amazing narration, Lydia Micheals cast the perfect narrator to bring her character and story to life. Amber Battaglia is a wonderfully talented narrator and a versatile voice artist. She had a complete understanding of the characters she was portraying, gave each a voice that fit that character to a tee and sounded believable in every role she played. I loved how she took each role, ran with and made it her own. She was fabulous covering the roles of both the male and female characters, handled the back-and-forth dialogue with ease and switched roles effortlessly. She set the perfect tone for the story captured all the characters emotions and projected them into her performance and had you feeling every single one. Amber Battaglia is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to, her narration enhances an already wonderful story to another level. Thank you for another fabulous listen.

Side Squeeze is book six in the Jasper Falls series and is the second chance romance of Harrison Montgomery and Mariella Mosconi.
Harrison left Jasper Falls when he was only seventeen to escape his abusive father. However, leaving may have saved him from his father but he had to leave everyone he loved most behind without so much as a goodbye. Now, ten years later, and a successful big time, New York tycoon Harrison heads back to small-town Jasper Falls to help his sister with their father’s funeral arrangements and he comes face to face with the girl who stole his heart all those years ago. Mariella is all grown up and has womanly curves in all the right places and the chemistry is still there between them, will Harrison be able to break down her walls and claim her again or will he mess things up and bolt back to the big city again?
Mariella has never had any luck in the romance department. Her first love skipped town without so much as a goodbye and the last guy she was with, well, he started dating someone else unbeknown to her and got engaged to the other woman leaving the town to accuse her of being ‘the other woman’ and a ‘homewrecker.’ So, imagine her horror when she’s sworn off men and none other than her first love rocks back up into town throwing her plans in the air. Despite the fact they are hot for each other, Mariella has walls up as she feels she must protect her heart for fear he’ll leave again. Will Mariella throw caution to the wind and live in the moment or will she punish Harrison for the past that she doesn’t fully understand?
The fabulous Amber Battaglia narrates this audiobook solo and as always does an incredible job. Amber perfectly showcased Mariella’s strong, sassy, resilient sides and also her sweet, vulnerable, closed off, guarded sides. Amber’s performance of big city tycoon Harrison was fantastic, she captured his passionate, bossy, alpha sides as well as his vulnerabilities superbly. Plus, Amber has to tackle the gaggle of side characters that always comes with a trip to Jasper Falls. Amber, take a bow, you are one talented lady.
I loved this visit to Jasper Falls. I went through every emotion with this couple and wanted to bang their heads together at one stage, however, Harrison and Mariella had smoking chemistry, super-hot steamy times, and the perfect HEA that I’ve come to expect from Lydia Michaels, the queen of small-town romances.

Side Squeeze by Lydia Michaels
4 Star Audiobook Review
Side squeeze by Lydia Michaels is a small town, second chance at love, contemporary romance. It is the sixth novel of the Jasper Falls series. Narrated by Amber Battaglia.
Mariella is looking for a new job. Interviewing for the manager position at a hotel that is owned by the husband of a girl Mariella butts heads with from a past time proves challenging as she enters the hotel for her interview and trips on her way in, falling to the feet of an old “fling”. Harrison, only in town for a short period of time due to the passing of his father, is staying in said hotel and provides Mariella with a key to his room, requesting she stop by for old times sake once her interview is over.
This was my second read by Lydia Michaels. Beautiful distractions, novel two of the McCullough Mountain series, was my first. I thoroughly enjoyed how characters from one series were brought back and referred to in the other series. In Beautiful Distractions I absolutely despised Erin, in Side Squeeze I learned more about her and absolutely loved her. Lydia Michaels is awesome at introducing a character, teaching you about all their flaws, and then turning them into someone amazing. Her characters are always likeable, full of love and are always relatable.
I thoroughly enjoyed Mariella’s drive to fight for what is right in her life. Harrison absolutely drove me insane. The way he spoke to Mariella, only showing his desire to be intimate with her, keeping her as his “side squeeze” and nothing else. Mariella deserved so much better when it came to a relationship. With Erin’s help, Harrison learns a thing or two about relationships and comes to his senses. It was magical seeing both Mariella and Harrison learn to trust again. I thoroughly enjoyed the way the epilogue wrapped up Mariella and Harrison’s story leaving no detail unnoticed.
Thank you, Valentine PR, for providing me with a complimentary review copy. In no way has that influenced my voluntary review. In my opinion, this is another must read by Lydia Michaels.

Lydia Michaels has a gift for creating characters who drive me crazy, make me want to strangle them, then win me over completely. Sometimes it will be one or the other in the couple, and sometimes it will be both - either way, Michaels always makes the journey worthwhile. Then, along comes Harrison, and I was getting a little worried for a bit there. I mean, Harrison has the same reasons for being closed off as his sister, Erin, does, but he nearly gave me whiplash with his back and forth. And let's face it; Mariella really needed some stability after the things she'd been through. Speaking of, that all happened in a previous book, but like the rest of the series, we're given what we need as far as information goes. That's not to say you shouldn't read the whole series because you definitely should. Jasper Falls and its inhabitants get under your skin, and it doesn't take long before you're completely invested. But I digress, so back to Harrison. Just as he waffled about commitment, I waffled about him. He'd do something that would make me want to wrap him in a big hug or ooh and aah about something sweet, then he'd make me want to kick him in the shin and point out the obvious of what's right in front of him. I suppose that's all a part of it and the sign of a good book. It may have taken me a while to decide which way I for sure wanted this one to go, but I was invested in the characters and figuring it out. I realize that I haven't really said much about Mariella, and as glad as I was to see her get her own love story, this one was all about Harrison and his emotional journey, at least for me. As mad as he made me at times, I was right there with him for the whole trip.
Amber Battaglia gives voice to the characters, and true to form, she does an excellent job with each and every one. She captures all the emotion - whether it's making me chuckle or tugging at my heartstrings, Battaglia gives a terrific performance.

Oh my… my heart is full..

I have read and/or listened to many Lydia Michaels books in the past.. but the books that include the families in Jasper Falls and McCullough Mountain are some of my absolute favorites. It’s a family you just want to be a part of. Even though they’re noses and pushy… You just have to love them all.

I’ve been waiting for Harrison’s story… and it certainly did not disappoint. His story is a reminder that you don’t know what’s going on in someone else’s life. Harrison and Erin’s lives were not easy. Their home was not what others thought. Harrison left to save himself. And he stayed away for 10 years. He returns for his father’s funeral and the memories drive him back away. Mariella is the girl he left behind back then, and again after his father’s funeral. She is trying to move on and find someone who loves her enough to stay… she doesn’t want to be left again. It hurts.

Will Harrison overcome his past and become the brother he should have been all along? Or will he let his past over-rule what he truly wants? Can he become the man he needs to be to love the woman he desires more than anything?

Lydia Michaels is a true story teller. One who can bring you into the world she’s created and make you a part of it. Jasper Falls is one of these worlds, and I think I could live there. I hope Jasper Falls and McCullough Mountain are around for a very long time. I love these families!!

Side Squeeze
Jasper Falls, Book 6
By: Lydia Michaels
Narrated by: Amber Battaglia

Coming back to Jasper Falls and we are getting Harrison's story. We had briefly met him previously, knowing he had left after he could no longer take the abuse of his father. Now with his father's passing, he is back and not staying. Selling the hardware store and setting him free from his past is the goal. Mariella falls right back into step when Harrison arrives home. Her high school crush, these two have unresolved feelings they have to work through. And our story begins. I am in love with Lydia Michaels's small town romance series. This one in particular is like a companion to My Funny Valentine as we had some background of Harrison's family when we met Erin. Leaving Jasper Falls broke Mariella's heart, and she just isn't sure she can go through that again. And Harrison is finding out he cannot continue to live with the anger he carries anymore. It's a great story of second chances, and family. Visiting this town is like coming home, and I enjoy the relevant issues that Michaels compassionately writes with her romances. It's a wonderful story and series.

Amber Battaglia continues entertaining me with her amazing narrations. This one is not different. She is able to do both men and women and include all the feels. This book has a lot of emotion, and she had my heart completely invested with his performance.

Beautiful swoony heart healing love story

I really enjoyed Mariella and Harrison’s swoony second chance opposites attract love story. The story included witty dialogue, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. Harrison is a single minded emotionally isolated millionaire financial investor who grew up in small town with an abusive father. He is a little rough around the edges and a little wounded because of his childhood trauma and baggage. He and Mariella dated in HS and one day he was just gone without a good bye to anyone including her. Ten years has passed since they’ve seen each other. Mariella is an outgoing family oriented cafe manager who has her own issues including an undeserved reputation in the town but she’s determined to find her path. At an interview for hotel manager at the new hotel in town she runs into Harrison who is in town for his father’s funeral. Their chemistry is still scorching but there are a lot of unresolved emotions for both of them and they want different things. There is a bit of c’mere, c’mere, get away, get away in this book but it was an important part of the story as a vehicle for Harrison’s growth and for Mariella to enforce her boundaries. Overall it was a good story about real, relatable people who have flaws, but are really trying to just do their best. 3.75 stars.

Lydia Michaels has become a favorite small town romance writer. She brings all the feels and a good balance to the angst with some comedy relief in the form of her secondary characters.

Amber Battaglia narrates another 5 star with her talent for voicing multiple characters including my favorite side characters!

Mariella and Harrison have both been mentioned in prior book ( My Funny Valentine).
She is Giovanni's baby sister and has been burned by love. Harrison was her high school flame who ghosted her just before his graduation and then burned by her cheating boyfriend.

I have to say I loved how Lydia has almost written this book as a two parter with book #5. While you can read this book as a standalone, I would suggest reading My Funny Valentine first because you'll get so much more out of this book.

So much emotion to this book, and just like his sister Erin, Harrison has his own trauma from his abusive father and his mother abandoning them as children.

Harrison really was the underdog here and at times I was disgusted by his behavior towards his sister and Mariella. But of course in the end Mariella and Harrison get their HEA and Harrison and Erin get a real family.

if you're looking for a great listen, you can't go wrong with this series and The McCullough Mountain series!

So, I honestly did not love either of these characters for most of the book. I’m sure people who read it are thinking, but Marcella is so sweet/kind/funny/forgiving. Yes, she is all those things. But she’s also so much better than accepting the scraps that Harrison gives her. She deserves more. Harrison really is a broken man. And again, while I understand the trauma he went through, I don’t know if I ever fully forgive him for leaving sister Erin behind. Not to mention his casual dismissal of Mariella and her feelings.
But sometimes two flawed characters can make a whole couple. And that’s what Lydia Michaels does with these two people. They aren’t perfect, but neither are they villains. Mariella should be commended for her compassion and dedication to Harrison, as a friend first. Harrison can be appreciated for his growth…slow as it may seem for the amount of years he’s been gone. I enjoyed his journey of healing as well as her parallel one of taking care of herself and not just others. It really does make for a interesting and page turning second chance story.

Ok, So I have to say while I liked this book, a loved the characters, I really hated how everyone pretty much dismissed the trauma that happened to Harrison in this book... When you survive an abusive household, you tend to NOT want to go back to that home... Especially if it is a life/death situation... You honest to god DO NOT want to be anywhere near the situation...

So for everyone being like "we need you to stay here instead of running away" "stop thinking about how you feel and think about how I feel" "stop being so selfish with your time" "lets completely redo the house we were traumatized in and make it a home" It started to piss me off a little...

I know what it is like to leave a home that you have been abused in, so trust me when I say "closure" is the last thing needed... With therapy and time, you can still be a responsible adult and function like one... When everyone around you wants you to stay in the situation, it's harder to move on because you feel like you don't have any support...

This is a well writtten, fabulously narrated story of Harrison Montgomery, the abused son of a local merchant, and Mariella, the “other woman” as seen by many in town. They had a high school relationship until Harrison leaves town unexpectedly. His reasons for leaving are personal and unknown by Mariella, so there is no closure on such an intimate relationship. His father’s death brings him back to town and an old flame is reignited.

This story is written with so much emotion, you truly feel the anger Harrison carries and his need to run when he is overwhelmed. He’s infuriating at times, but his character development throughout the book gives you a great appreciation for Mariella and her patience. Every Jasper Falls story and McCullough Mountain character had relatable issues and a happily ever after that comes full circle.

Amber Battaglia has a versatile voice as the single narrator. Her male voices aren’t cringy and she does a great job in the roles of the Irish and Italian elders.
