I was neutral about this book at the beginning, then it started to go downhill when the doctor from Germany by way of South America showed up (surprise, surprise a Nazi who liked to torture), and then when there were alien artifacts with mysterious powers (that didn't seem to have any relation to the rest of the story) I really lost interest. Couple that with a main character I didn't like and Joe Durva turning out to be pretty uninteresting, the whole thing is just a mess.
