Season of the Vampire #1

The Secrets in Shadow and Blood

Rate this book
In the shadows, vision can turn blurry. Truths can become lies. Enemies can become lovers.

When Violet inexplicably wakes thousands of years after a nuclear holocaust, she finds the world very different. Fae exist now. They’re vicious, animalistic monsters who pervert magic and can morph into any shape—including vampires. They hoard the bounty of the new world, and keep humans banished to the wasteland. At least, that’s what the humans of today have told her. Determined to make up for an unforgivable mistake in her past, she becomes a covert assassin and seeks revenge for her human brethren. And she’s good at it. But when the thing she hunts saves her life, injuring himself in the process… her crystal clarity suddenly becomes blurry.

Vampires are meant to be monsters, not protectors… not charismatic, annoyingly handsome and loyal and… everything.

Indigo is a Fae Guardian, and a ruthless vampire protector of Elphyne. The Order has tasked him with finding a human with deadly secrets before the unhinged Unseelie Queen, or the fanatical human leader, can exploit her. They chose him for one reason, and one reason only – the taste of human blood does things to him. Addictive, dark, insatiable things. And when he catches Violet’s scent, they know he’ll do everything in his power to covet her and keep her safe. But Indigo hides his own shameful secret in the shadows of his heart, and if it ever comes to light, Violet will never trust him. She’ll kill him.

The Secrets in Shadow and Blood is the next installment in the Fae Guardians series, and the first in the Season of the Vampire Trilogy. Each book features a separate couple with a satisfying HEA, but to enjoy the full benefits of the over arching plot, start the Fae Guardian journey with book one of Fae Guardians: Season of the Wolf. All Fae Guardian books include steamy romance, a splash of time travel, monster hunting, a band of brothers, fated mates, growly fae protectors, and their strong willed women from our time. If you love your books full of page turning action, romantic tension, and world building you can get lost in, then this series is for you. Warning: Trusting these seductive fae will lead to sleepless nights. But it will be worth it.

I feel like I’ve been in MMC fight with my brain.

The FMC’s guilt, self-loathing… all whilst mixed with a can-do attitude is exhausting. Like absolutely f’ing depleting. It’s repeated OVER and OVER concerning everything. Chick is surviving, but muses about how she doesn’t “deserve” to even eat. I couldn’t blame the MMC if he shanked her and buried her in the woods… sadly, she is his mate. I never connected with her. Her growth is minimal, accepting her gift and relationship, but she never feels like she deserves it

The world is huge, fantastic creatures, a slew of characters, and a shit load of sub plots happening. Interesting, but exhausting. I found myself reading shit multiple times trying to figure out who was talking and WTF they were talking about. This book is advertised as a SA within an existing world, but this being my first book… I feel like I was dropped in a world I’m supposed to already be familiar with from the other books. Way too many names and organizations to keep up with - all the guardians, cadre leader, an order, a council, primes, a king here and a queen there. It’s overwhelming, and I never did understand who, if anyone, was actually in charge here.

“You’re not the leader of the Twelve, Shade. I am,” Leaf reminded him. “But I’m also on the Council with you.” “If the Prime’s not involved, then I’ll make those decisions on behalf of the Order.” <<< Say what now?

By 60%, I’m still wondering WTF these people are talking about most of the time. The order of things doesn’t make sense.

The wording is awkward … like “well blessed humans.” It’s weird and without explanation. How the hell did the prehistoric humans survive a thousand years frozen? Why do they have powers? What the hell is this well thing? If it’s so powerful, why is an evil Queen creating bad guys with power granted by this lovely well? <<< I love fantasy, but readers still need some plausible explanation for what’s going on.

There’s a lot of plot advancement that’s forced. The FMC spent one night with two women six years ago. They decide it’s a must to separate because they’re dangerous together. Suddenly, one of the women reappears, and the FMC feels she must go off and save her from the very bad guy that they had agreed six years ago could NEVER get hands on them together. So wtf? That’s called nonsense.

Then, there’s so much that’s not wrapped up here. To call this a HEA isn’t quite honest. The FMC and MMC accept the relationship, but there's a million loose ends in the world and too many plot points that arise only to be left unaddressed.

The blurb mentions humans in a wasteland and human leaders after her …. That plot point is never even addressed in this book?

This book is also LONG. Painfully, unnecessarily long. Foreplay without the payday at the end~

2 stars for creativity, but the execution here sucked, and the FMC wasn’t annoying AF.

This book was one of those filler books for me. It was just meh. There wasn't anything I loved about it but I also didn't hate it. I've been in a weird mood lately (Hi, I'm your friendly neighborhood mood reader™! Pleased to make your acquaintance!), so I just ended up picking a book at random from my TBR. The horror! I know. This one was actually one of the books I was hoping was going to get an audio book. It's why it's been on my TBR for so much time.

I didn't really like the heroine much. She has a *thing* (personality quirk?) that she must be better than everyone, especially men (due to childhood trauma) in everything. I didn't love that she was, in essence, competing with her mate for who-knows-what. It was just accepted to be her *personality* in the book. I was glad when it was eventually resolved. Her mate was nothing but sweet and kind to her. He never pushed her into anything and was very understanding about everything when it came to her. It kinda felt like he lost his whole personality and remolded himself into something else in order to be with her.

The overall world the author built was somewhat interesting. Though I figured out a tad bit too late that there are prior books in the series world that probably set it up a little better. I wasn't necessarily lost but there's only so much an author can do to make me understand the world she built when I start reading 4+ books in. So that one's on me.

Considering my lukewarm reaction to this book I won't be continuing on in this series.

I'm still obsessed with this series, but this one wasn't as amazing as the first three for me. It was the first time it felt like the plot overtook the romance, and I didn't get enough time with Violet and Indigo.

Plus, I just really didn't like Violet. The whole 'I'm a tough b**ch who don't need a man' thing is great and all, except Violet just took it way too far. She was so determined to prove herself without Indigo that she was just rude and mean to him for 90% of the book, and poor Indigo spent so much time catering to her annoying personality that he lost all of his.

I also really disliked the whole 'guys against girls' thing that went on between the women and their mates. I am not a fan of the trope where partners compete against each other. One of the fav things about my relationship with my hubby is that we're always on each other's team. We don't compete. We don't threaten each other or lie. We don't say shit to our friends like, "You should probably throat punch him." (Ada said that to her friend about Jasper! Like WTF, girl, that's so rude! Stand up for your man!)

Still, I rated it 3.5 stars because this series really is amazing, and I'm super invested in it, and I can't wait for future books. I can't wait for Haze & Peaches's story, and I really want Cloud's book even though I'll probably have to wait a long time for it... He's such a jerk though, and I love him. :)

He wanted to pervade her in every possible way. Every vampire mating urge was blending with the craving for her blood. He wanted to sink his teeth, his cock, and his soul in. He wanted to roll around in her blood and take everything she had to give. To drown in it. In her. And more.

5+ Indigo stars!

Holy vampire hotness. I have been (not so) patiently waiting for this book for months now, and even though my expectations were sky high for this novel, Lana still managed to blow my expectations to bits and leave me completely satisfied and yearning for more.

The Season of the Wolf arc of the Fae Guardians series concluded with Jasper's book, THE DREAMS OF BROKEN KINGS. The Season of the Vampire arc begins with my babe Indigo's book TSISAB, where we meet Violet, a human nuclear physicist who mysteriously wakes up centuries in the future where fae creatures rule and all metal and plastics items are banned because of their ability to block Well-magic. When she first awakens, Violet is brutally attacked by winged vampiric creatures who claim to want more than her blood as Violet unknowingly has a high affinity for Well-magic. After Violet fights for her freedom and escapes her attackers, she sets out alone on a path of vengeance and penance, vowing to rid this new world of all of the unsavory vampires who cross her path.

Unfortunately for Violet, Vampire Guardian Indigo--one of those sworn to protect the integrity of the Well-magic of Elphyne--has been sent by the Prime to capture Violet and bring her to the Order before anyone else can use her as a weapon against them. Indigo was my favorite type of alpha Hero; he was incorrigible, mischievous, and cocky in the best way, but still so loyal, obsessed, and protective of Violet from the first second he meets her, and I just love him so freaking much. It was so nice seeing the couples from the previous books still being adorable, and I loved the hints Lana gave us of Haze and Shade's books next (even though she also completely shredded my heart). I can honestly say that the Fae Guardians series has gotten better and better with each book, though I think Indigo will remain my favorite for quite some time. I cannot wait for the continuation of Haze and Peaches' story next and more from Elphyne! ♡

Tropes: fated mates, enemies-to-lovers, reverse grumpy/sunshine, 'who did this to you' vibes, morally grey hero, heroine with hidden powers, hate-to-love-you, 'touch her and die' vibes, dystopian fae setting, band of brothers, found family, slow burn, mild cliffhanger (part of a series), STEAMY🔥

My Indigo, the cheeky and flirtatious Vampire Guardian who is obsessed with his Moon Goddess..

My mood board for TSISAB, @lifeisbetterwithbooks_

First time reading this author. Will be pursuing this series!

Great character build. Secondary characters are amazing. Found a little humor throughout. At times, Violet got repetitive and predictable. However, the storyline was strong enough to keep me interested through the entire read.

I will say I wish I had started with The Longing of Lone Wolves (Fae Guardians #1) by Lana Pecherczyk I felt a little out of the loop.

Happy reading,

This one didn't really work for me, with a whiny heroine and a dragging plot.

Almost nothing happened. And even though I liked to learn more about vampires and soul eating creatures, it was not enough to endure the rest.

The heroine's self-loathing was exhausting, her CONSTANT back and forth annoyed the heck out of me. And this far in the series, especially for persons that've been awake in this time for 6 years, could we please start a bit differently with how the heroines discover their gifts? It feels like rinse and repeat at this point.

Plus ffs, we've got the plot of the next book already presented here, with spoilers and all. I don't even know if I want to read the next one as it will be the same timeline from a different perspective and with the predictable ending. Whatthefuck.

PS. It's confusing for the newcomers: this book is not the first in a series; it's basically the 4th in the Fae Guardian series but a first book in the second part of it. There is indeed a ZERO intro for those who haven't read the previous books.

I just feel in loud with Lana and her writing!

In so happy I finally picked up one of Lana's books! It took entirely away too long and I'm just glad I did! Violet and Indigo are one it my me favorite couples. I can't wait to read Haze and Peaches story. The buildup between the MCs was awesome and once the steam started it was well worth the wait! Definitely recommend.

I’ve been (im)patiently waiting for vampires to get their turn in the Fae Guardians series, and author Lana Pecherczyk delivered with THE SECRETS IN SHADOW AND BLOOD. Not only did she give us a fantastic vampire romance, she gave us such a delightful and incredibly charming vampire named Indigo.

My favorite aspect of this series still remains the incredibly unique storyline surrounding how the humans end up in the Fae world. Violet awoke 6 years prior to the events in this book, and it’s 6 long years that she’s had time to learn the ways of the Fae and hone her skills as a vampire killer. Violet also comes with a lot of guilt and a lot of self-loathing for her perceived role in the destruction of the human world, and that plays a big role in her actions and her snarly attitude. Indigo should hate her, since she is a destroyer of vampires, but that’s not in his nature. From their very first meeting he was funny, flirtatious, and certainly quite smitten with Violet the Violent. As with the rest of the humans in this series, there’s something different about Violet and I loved watching her transformation. The super interesting world is also explored a little more and expanded quite a bit, and I love that we also get a few little glimpses of past couples from the first 3 Fae books.

THE SECRETS IN SHADOW AND BLOOD is the first book in the vampires’ arc, and I can’t wait until Haze and Shade get their turn at love in the next two books. Indigo and Violet are my favorite couple in the series thus far, but I have a feeling the other vampy boys will give Indigo a run for his money in the favorites department.

*Many thanks to Paper Myths Media and the author for providing a copy for review.

So, I didn’t connect to any of the main characters. Indigo was sad and somber most of the time (honeslty I would be too if I was him) and FMC's (I already forgot her name and just finished the audio, that's never a good sign) self pity and sabotage was hard to deal with. I understand why she feels this way, but 6 years of self pity is a long time. I didn't feel anything for their couple. I still somewhat enjoyed the world and I want to listen to the next book.

The Secrets in Shadow and Blood.

The Secrets in Shadow and Blood is everything you could possibly want in a vampire book. The story is filled with magic, strong characters, and great romance so you can’t help but love this book. I admit it was nearly impossible to put down until I reached the last page.

After creating a bomb that destroyed everything Violet wakes up in a completely new world and before she has the time to process anything she’s attacked by winged fae that want to drink her blood.

The story jumps forward six years where Violet is hiding in a small village and still carrying the scars from when she was first awoken in this new world ruled by fae and other creatures that are both beautiful and terrifying. She spends her days working in the mines and hunting the creatures that attacked her years ago but runs into a little trouble when she meets Indigo a Fae Guardian who is not only a vampire that defies everything she thought she knew about his kind but as it turns out he is also her Well-Blessed mate.

The author did such an amazing job with the story of Indigo and Violet, their characters had such perfect chemistry together that I absolutely loved reading about them along with everything else in this amazing book.

The Secrets In Shadow and Blood is definitively my new favorite book in the Fae Guardians series ( which I am obsessed with ) and if you are looking for your next favorite read then you need to pick this one (along with the rest of the series) up immediately. The author has set a new standard for vampires and I couldn’t be more obsessed.

Okay, I love wolves but damn these vampire Guardians are hot. I am really enjoyed the next installment in the series. Half of me was afraid that it would drag on, but I really didn’t feel like that at all.

Violet woke up 6 years ago, but unlike the other Well Blessed Humans, she did not have anyone to navigate the world with. Then Violet finds her self captured by vampires who are using her as her personal blood bag. Luckily she is able to escape and save to other girls. They realize that they’re all from the past and were key players for the end of the world. They make a difficult decision to split up and each girl went their separate ways.

Violet hates vampires after her first encounter and spends most of her six years a week killing them. Until a certain vampire comes and insert himself into her life. Enter indigo. Indigo is exactly how I love my vampires to be; sexy, witty, and protective. Violet and Indigo quickly realize that they are mates, but Violet has spent the majority of her new life hating vamps. She now has to reevaluate everything she think she knows about vampires and juggle her new powers.

This book is very addicting, I’m warning you now. I just love the chemistry between the two. Admittedly, I did not always enjoy Violet’s character but I did like her overall. I am really excited for the next couple in the series. We get a glimpse of them in this book but I can already tell their stories going to be very intense.

Cannot wait for the next book!

Well this book was absolutely amazing! I totally and completely love Indigo & plan on keeping him for myself. I call dibs, because hot damn!

Violet wakes up in a world complete different from where she is originally from, she has winged demons hunting her and drinking her blood. Vegas is gone & the Fae now reign. In order to blend in, she moves around frequently and works to atone for the sins of her past, she did not expect one of the very beings she hunted to save her, nor the attraction she felt towards him. Indigo will do whatever it takes to save this human from everything, including his own bloodlust.

I loved the dynamic that these two characters had together. Violet appeared to be so strong, but she used her apparent strength as a mask to hide behind. Indigo was the perfect one to help her heal and move forward. Indigo also has pas regrets that Violet helps him come to terms with and begin forgiving himself for.

I also loved seeing some of the couples from the last book & how the other humans accepted Violet so easily. These ladies will be a force to be reckoned with in the future.

In this book we also learn a bit more about the mysterious Sluagh race of Fae. I really hope the Six Sluagh get their stories told 😉.

Overall I absolutely loved this book! There is a lot of buildup for Violet and Indigo’s relationship, as well as some moments that will make you want to chuck your kindle (always a complement of a well told story in my opinion). Plus the teaser we got for the next couple makes me want more!

Definitely go start the series if you haven’t already!

This is the fourth book in the Fae Guardians series. Indigo is a vampire guardian sent on a mission to find a Well Blessed human from the past. Violet has been on her own for several years after waking up in a strange place and time. They both have to fight their natures to learn to work together especially after Well Blessed mating marks show up on them. Indigo has become one of my favorite guardians especially after the way he completely accepts the mating and does everything he can to make it easier on Violet. She struggles because of all the things she had to do to survive and her feelings of guilt. As they work to help the other guardians in saving this new world, the bond grows stronger. I was finally able to really like Violet as she became stronger through the story.
The world Lana builds in this series is beautiful and deadly. The characters have depth that draw me in and cause me to invest in their lives. I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves fantasy, action, and romance.

Um what? I cannot believe how amazing this book was. The Secrets in Shadow and Blood is a PNR set in a 2,000 year old post nuclear fallout world. But the PLOT you guys. Basically, everyone who helped create the bomb was put in stasis and woke up 2,000 years later. They wake in a world where Seelie, Unseelie, and other paranormal creatures fight for control of the Well ( the power source for their magic).
The FMC is Violet, a nuclear scientist, who has enough regrets drown in. She hates herself for the damage she caused the world. But she’s being hunted in this strange time for her knowledge, so she has to hide. I had so much sympathy for this character. Her redemption arc throughout this plot was downright beautiful. I loved reading about her badass personality which really brought the entire book together.
Now let’s talk about the world building. This book definitely has the vibes of “The 100” mixed with some delicious Cruel Prince chemistry. Though I also got a steampunk vibe for some reason (maybe I’m just a *bit* excited about the world building lol)? But I enjoyed every moment of this journey. The little details for the rules of this newly made-over world were so interesting to read about. The magic system was exactly what this plot needed and then some.
This book has:
Spice✔️
PNR✔️
An excellent NA magic system ✔️
Great plot line ✔️
I would definitely recommend this book you guys! I need the next book IMMEDIATELY!!

Vampire. Yay! That's it. That's my review.
Okay fine it's not...but also I love vampires. And I was ready to see what Lana P. would give me with Indigo and I am not disappointed. I need to figure out how to become a genius, build a bomb that takes out the world but I wake up 1000 years in the future and become a Well-blessed mate to a vampire Guardian ( or a wolf shifter. Honestly I'm not picky.).

Violet was one of the first to wake in this new future. A future she realized she helped shape. She built the weapon that destroyed the planet 1,000 years before. She carries the guilt of what she's done for the past six years as she makes her way through Elphyne hiding amongst the fae. Never truly sleeping, trusting, making any connections. Just killing vampires. Vampires like the ones who attacked her when she first woke....and she's good at it. But Clarke isn't the only Seer and others are looking for her and want what she has in her head.

Indigo. An outcast amongst his own people because his parents were the first to mate and be faithful. Then one in his own family once he decided to join the Guardians to help with his own guilt over his own past. Things he doesn't want Violet to know because he can't ever lose her. But if he can't let go of his own guilt , how can he convince her to let go of hers?

This is book 4 in the Fae Guardians series and book one in the Season of the Vampire trilogy. Which means....YAY MORE VAMPIRES.

Pecherczyk just keeps getting better and better!

This new trilogy in the Fae Guardians world starts with a bang and just keeps rolling. I couldn’t put it down!

Violet the Violent has made mistakes—mistakes that ruined a world. A second chance to right past wrongs just sees her making more.

Fortunately, the Well sends her Indigo.

A vampire Guardian, he represents everything she hates about the new world. But it doesn’t take long for his heart of gold to work it’s magic on Violet.

When deranged Queen Maebh decides she wants Violet, it’s up to the Guardians to thwart her plan. Only, the Unseelie Court is inescapable. A place of nightmares made flesh.

And all of them want their piece of Violet.

I don’t know how many times my heart stuttered reading this. May have also got a bit teary at times. But that’s what we all want, right? A book that hooks us, keeps us on the edge of our seats.

And this one...

Well, if you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for?

Violet is my new favorite
In this installment, we revisit old friends and meet new ones. Violet is now my favorite well-blessed human! This snarky, strong, bad-A heroine is just what Indigo needs and we finally get to see another side of him. Violet comes to the guardians with her own baggage to deal with and to top this off Indigo has baggage too. Violet and Indigo’s well-blessed union helps them to defeat their Unseelie enemies and protect each other. The action, magic, violence, betrayal, danger, lies, drama, abuse, and vengeance makes this an exciting addition to the “Fae Guardian” series.

I wasn't sure if these fae vampires would be as awesome as the wolves, but they are! I mean, of course they are, why am I even surprised? Lana clearly can do no wrong, and each book is somehow just as good and yet better than the last! UGH! WHAT IS THIS WITCHCRAFT?!

With the close of the Season of the Wolf, we now enter the Season of the Vampire - which means a new trio from the Fae Guardian cadre of the twelve, and three new human heroines that are out of time, but have been imbued with immense power from the Well.

Violet, Silver, and Peaches (previously known as Vivienne, Anika, and Suzy) wake up about four or five years prior to Clarke, and their introduction to Elphyne is harrowing and violent and full of violation. During an attempted abduction by some Unseelie vamps, at the command of their queen, Silver and Peaches have been prisoner for some weeks and we start off with Violet waking up and getting almost immediately attacked. But like the badass she is, she manages to fight off the vampires and save herself and her new friends... but, unfortunately, considering who they were in the past and the dangerous knowledge they all possess, they decide to take on new identities and split up in an effort to make it harder for the vampires to track them down.

The rest follows the basic Fae Guardians tried and true formula of Guardian finds and ends up protecting Well-blessed female, they don't really get along at first so there's some banter and fighting and snark and sexual tension, but they eventually fall in love and at some point in the middle of all this, it's also revealed that they're Well-blessed mates.

I can already hear a certain brand of reader being perturbed by said formula, but if it works, it works, and personally - I fucking love it.

Violet and Indigo's relationship has to be one of my favorites so far (I mean, I love them all, but I especially loved the two of them) - I think in large part because Indigo relishes in Violet's fire and he does everything he can to pull her out of her self-loathing so she can empower herself. Violet is grappling with a lot of trauma and guilt at the role she played with the end of the world, but Indi, that wonderful vampire... he's so perfect for her. He is exactly what Vi needs. I adored their chemistry, their dynamic, their growth, and their relationship as a whole. Just... *chefs kiss* ... it is so good.

I also really loved the blossoming relationship between Violet, Laurel, and Ada as they help Violet train and develop her powers. That camaraderie between these extraordinary women has to be one of my favorite aspects of the series (I admittedly have many favorites).

We also get to actually meet some of the Sluaghs in this one (we even get names!), and I have never been more happy (or relieved) to hear that Lana plans to dedicate an entire season to those mysterious Guardians. After the role Legion in particular played in the climax of this book, my interest has been peaked for sure. I need more of these dark, alluring, and sexy-scary males.

Cloud remains an absolute favorite, too, and I'm already itching for the Season of the Crow! But first, after the vamps, we have to hang out with the elves. Speaking of which, I'm glad we got a bit more of them this time around. We've seen a lot of Leaf, yes, but we got more Forrest in this one, and I already love the guy and am looking forward to his book.

In truth, all of these characters Lana has created are just so wonderful and distinct and memorable - I can't help but be emotionally attached to them. I'm very much looking forward to getting to know them better as the series progresses, and to eventually watch them fall in love.

Speaking of which - after the ending of this book, I am DYING for more from Haze and Peaches! So glad their book is next, omg!

TL;DR - this series is phenomenal. I can't get enough of it. I don't know what the hell I'm going to do with my life once I run out of books, though (besides wait for the next ones to come out, obviously). This book hangover is gonna suuuuuuuuuck!

Who doesn't love dark, sexy vampires? I mean as long as they don't glitter in the sunlight I'm happy. And Lana Pecherczyk delivers with her next installment of her fantasy dystopian romance Guardian series. The first three books were about the shifter wolves and the their mates from the past that somehow ended up in the future after humans wrecked the world. Now we get the vamp Guardians and first up is Indigo and his mate from the past Violet.

Indy is a wonderful character and so well written. The author truly brings him to life and dare I say it, makes him human. He is playful, funny, witty, kind, domineering, stubborn, determined...just so well rounded. He has insecurities and he admits them. He knows who he is as a person and refuses to fight his feelings and needs.

As to Violet, I identified with her so much that at times I honestly felt the author had picked my inner thoughts from my psyche and put them down on paper. This character is guilt ridden, determined, and honestly is in search of who she truly is because her identity has been defined by her determination to be better than the males in her life and around her. Her biggest flaw that she never really saw? It isn't all about her. She is self absorbed in her guilt. You can read the book to find out about her guilt.

I loved this book. I love this series. I cannot wait for the next one. I always thought my fave would be one of the wolfie's but now it seems I've leveled up to vampire. Truthfully I'm still impatiently waiting for the Sluagh. These Fae Guardians will be the death of me. READ THIS SERIES!!!!!

The Secrets in Shadow and Blood is the first book in the Season of the Vampire trilogy, but it's actually the fourth book in the Fae Guardians series. I highly recommend reading the series in order, starting with The Longing of Lone Wolves , to fully appreciate the intricate storyline.

I'm completely taken by this series! It's a thrilling mix of supernatural beings, post-apocalyptic events, and time-travel romances featuring humans and fae.

While it's necessary to suspend disbelief, as one often does with fantasy novels, I did find that there is a lack of explanation regarding how these human women from "the old world" were brought to the present future: a future where the fae reign and a magical well holds all life's answers. Nevertheless, the story is still engaging, with well-developed characters and a vividly imagined world of monsters.

If you're a fan of possessive alpha male protectors, fiercely independent yet emotionally damaged females who can hold their own and a slow burn romance that delivers, then "The Secrets in Shadow and Blood" is a must-read!

📌Dual POV + chapters from the villain's perspective
📚Each book features a different couple w/ a HEA, but the series has an overarching plot.

Okay I probably should've read the series before this one, it probably would've made better sense...

Here's the thing, it started off really good and I really did like the beginning of it but the more I read the story the more it became weird to me. Like I felt like the author was adding everything and mixing things that in my opinion just didn't mix well. The more I realized that this book had everything under the sun in fantasy or whatever that I found myself becoming less and less interested and while the main character started off totally bad-A turned into a wilting flower so distraught with her part in the ending of the world that instead of feeling sorry for her I got annoyed.

I was grateful that while this is considered "erotica" it really wasn't. I say that because in my opinion erotica books are sex focus and books with sex in them are storyline driven. This book had a storyline! I was more than half way before things got erotic.

But I stopped caring, I lost interest in the story and the main character so I lost interest in finishing the book.

Overall it just wasn't for me.

Sexual Content: heavy
Language: heavy
Violence: heavy
Drugs/Alcohol: moderate
LGBTQ: not that I remember

Wow!
I wasn't expecting to like anyone more than I liked Rush but Indi stole my heart.

He is cocky, smug, arrogant but also caring, sensible and sweet ♥️
And Violet the Violent. She is a very smart and strong woman. She is the nuclear physicist who built the bomb that destroyed the old world. Because of this she is consumed by guilt and punishes herself constantly.

Violet, along with two other women, is one of the first who woke up in this new world. And the brutal attack she suffered right after waking up sent her in a killing spree, defining her path for the next years until meeting Indigo.
But his little tricks and innocent manipulations along with Ada and Laurel help, makes her realize her worth, that she must let the past behind and move on.

Loved seeing all of the characters from The Fae Guardians and how they all work together now 😊
Another pleasant surprise were the Sluagh. This time we got to meet two of the Six, Legion and Varen. I have to say they left an impression and despite them being powerful and frightening they have a dark desire that hopefully was changed by Violet.
Hope that Lana will give us their stories too 🙏

This is the 4th book in the Fae Guardians series and the 1st of the Vampire Guardians. Even though you can read each of these books as a standalone romance, I highly recommend reading them in order. Especially since characters that we know and love from previous books appear.

In this book we get Indigo and Violets story. Violet is a woman from our time, like the other women in the previous books, but she is also different. She actually woke up along with 2 others years before. When she woke up in this time/world she was attacked by a group of vampires. After surviving that, she became a vampire hunter. Which makes for an interest story, when she meets Indigo and finds out that he is her well blessed mate. Since he's a vampire, their relationship starts with her wanting to kill him. I loved Indigo and how he is so patient but at the same time mischievous and funny in showing her how special she is to him and how he would never harm her. I loved their adventure and romance and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

I was given an ARC of the book, but am voluntarily giving my honest review.
