Welcome to Mysterious Cryptid Encounters Volume 3. I’m guessing if your reading volume 3 you will have read volume 1 & 2. For those of you who haven’t read volume 1 & 2, the Cryptid Encounters series is a collection of real life encounters with cryptids such as Bigfoot, Dogman, Mothman, The Jersey Devil and many more. The encounters in these books are shared by members of the Mysterious Creatures Facebook Group.
I normally enjoy reading cryptid encounter stories and have read both prior editions of this series. It is becoming increasingly difficult to read these books because of the lack of editing. A number of reviewers have noted this and they are correct. Run on sentences, lack of punctuation and capitalization make many of these stories hard to follow. The bulk are the sighting a cryptid type of tales along with hearing things. There are other series with more intense encounters and much better editing.
Another typical book of this kind. A couple of things stand out, one being how often in reports like this that the cryptid, usually a Bigfoot, parallels the person as he or she is walking out of the situation. Obviously it's to make sure that person leaves the cryptids territory. No physical harm done.
Then there's the case where a soldier confronts a cryptid. He's guarding something, he's a soldier but he's not carrying a gun?
Anyhow, the breakdown for this book: As often the most cases involve unknown causes, in this case numbering more than the second position which were Bigfoot cases. Bigfoot is quite often the number 2 position in these books.
Then there's a big drop for number three which involves werewolf sightings. At one sighting each are such creatures as dogman, vampire, aswang, lizard man, a giant hyena-like thing, a white mantis and a couple more.
One other thing: there's a neat name in one case for the Bigfoot and that is 'wood boogers.'
There are good stories in the author’s collections but he really needs to proof read what he puts in them. I understand using the witnesses stories but it would make it a lot easier in on the people who read them if the author would correct some of the grammatical and spelling errors.
