A final quest. A people divided. Can one cyren turn the tides of fate?

The time has come to obtain the final birthstone of Saddoriel. Reeling from a near-deadly sacrifice, Roh must rally all her strength if she is to take her place upon the throne.

But with cyrenkind divided and enemies closing in, the road to Lochloria and beyond is more dangerous than ever. An ancient prophecy looms, loyalties are tested and Roh races against the clock that threatens to undo all she’s fought for.

As a centuries-long conflict comes to a head and forces of nature collide, Roh has to decide if there is more than one kind of magic in this world, and whether or not she has the power to harness it.

Some bonds will solidify, while others will be fractured forever – but all must take up their swords and face the final battle for a better Saddoriel.

Will Roh emerge from the perils victorious, or will the trials claim her at last?

Bursting with Scheuerer’s trademark action and a dash of fiery romance, the Curse of the Cyren Queen series reaches its epic conclusion with To Wield a Crown.

In the long-awaited conclusion (at least the conclusion that I have long been awaiting), Helen takes some of her biggest risks of the series. Roh has the crown and two of the jewels, but must get the last one and make it back to Saddoriel within three weeks. She has a plan, but her past keeps creeping up to haunt her. And she still has to face one more challenger. And she no longer has her death song.

I don't want to say too much and spoil the joy of reading this for the first time, but there are a few things that stood out to me, showing what an incredible storyteller Helen is. First, on several occasions, there was a big showdown that usually indicates the story is over. At least three come to mind, but there might have been more. But the way she staggers these events, even when you think nothing bigger or worse could occur, it does. It's incredible. Second, Roh has made a full transition to what I call being human - learning all of the lessons that are embodied by Odi. At the same time, she becomes even more fully cyren and fully warlock. I can't explain it, but it is every kind of wonderful. And third, that ending. Absolutely brilliant. So so good. And I probably cried through the last four chapters. Thanks for that, Helen. But I'm all ready to do it all over again.

One complaint. There was an open door sex scene in this book. Not my preference to begin with, but when the first two books in the series are completely clean and book three hints at a maybe but still keeps it clean, it feels a bit like a bait and swap. If you don't want to read sex scenes, then it's easy enough to skip, but still worth mentioning since I also know that its inclusion will turn off some readers.

Overall, I thought this was a most incredible ending to an incredible series. And as others have already said, I am sold. Anything Helen writes will be on my preorder list forever. And I can't wait to read this series all over again.

I received a free ARC from the author and have reviewed it willingly because it's incredible!

4.5 stars. A wonderful conclusion to an amazing series. I will miss all of these beloved characters so much. 🥹🤍

Now that I’ve had time to sit with this series and digest it, I can finally write a more flushed out review.

**Huge spoilers below:

This series had everything I was looking for. Originality, amazing character development, slow burn enemies-to-lovers, wonderful friendships and sisterhoods. It was soooo good. And I’m so sad it’s over haha. I wish more people knew of Helen Scheuerer and her books because they are so underrated! They deserve way more recognition.

Favorite Characters:

Rohesia the Resilient:

“You need not throw me to the monsters, Sybil. They come when I call.”

“What we fight for today is more than victory. We fight, not only for a better Saddoriel, but for a better world.“

A great heroine is one that isn’t perfect, but has amazing character development throughout the entire series. And that’s exactly what Roh had. Morally gray in the beginning, with how she cheated her own friends to ensure she’d be in the tournament, and also with how she viewed human beings as slightly less than. But throughout the series, we see that despite her upbringing, despite being surrounded by others who look down at her and mistreat her for her ancestry, she is one strong female character who is every bit worthy of being queen. I loved her friendship with Harlyn, Yrsa, and Odi.

Finn Haertel:

“I wanted your ideas, your drawings to grace its pages. Just as you have graced my life with your fire. Never forget this part of yourself, the part that wants to create, to build things, to contribute to a better world. Yours, Finn.”

Where do I even begin. From the moment Finn showed up, I was like “yeah, I’m gonna love this man.” 😂 Mean? Yes, at first. Judgmental and prejudiced? For sure. But all of that just pointed towards - amazing character development and possibly enemies to lovers? I remember being so anxious to see what kind of relationship Roh and Finn would have. The slow burn romance was SO well done here. It didn’t feel rushed at all. And it also didn’t feel like they hated each other for majority of the series and then bam, one day they just loved each other. We saw their love form and it was believable and so well-written. It’s how all enemies-to-lovers tropes should be written.

Aside from his love story with Roh, Finn was another perfect example of how character development is SO important when writing a series. We want to see growth, we want to see dimension. He went from judging Roh, to refusing to acknowledge her as his queen, to wanting to fight by her side, to fight for a better world together. We see hints of goodness even in the beginning, with how he is with Yrsa. But the development in his character was so beautiful. He’ll go down as one of my top favorite characters of all time. 🤍

Odi Arrowood, Prince of Melodies:

“It’s alright, Roh. This is where I’m meant to be. If you truly are the one to bring us all together, then you need a human at your side.”

“I told you I’d be with you till the end. Bring us together, Roh.”

Oh, Odi. 🥹 my poor heart. I didn’t LOVE his character in the first book. He was a good character, don’t get me wrong. But he wasn’t one of my favorites. He didn’t stand out to me much and I actually was bracing myself for NOT loving a romance between him and Roh if it were to unfold that way haha. I just didn’t feel the chemistry.

But then books two and three happened and we saw so much depth and courage in his character. Never forget how he was willing to be imprisoned and forced to play music forever for Roh’s cause in book three before she sacrificed her deathsong. And on that note - was I absolutely wrecked in this final book by the ending he got? YES 😭 did I foresee his death coming? Yes. Every time he said “until the end,” I was like, “oh no.” But his death still came as a shock for me. It’s always the “I’m fine” one second and the “I’m dying” the next that shocks me.

Such a good, noble, wholesome character, willing to sacrifice himself for Roh and her quest, because he truly believed she would do what she promised. Agh, my heart.

Deodan:

“Give me your word that you will return all of Lochloria to the warlocks. Give me your word, Roh, and I will be your sacrifice.” -this quote is from The Fabric of Chaos but it is still one of my favorite moments and quotes from the warlock heir / king.

Deodan was mysterious and captivating from the start. I was very intrigued by his character but wasn’t exactly sure where he stood. But as the series continued, I came to love how loyal he was to Roh, how he saw goodness and promise in her when others were hesitant. He wasn’t a perfect character, but again, the most interesting characters are never perfect.

I loved his friendship with Roh and how together, they set out to do what they promised.

Overall:

An amazing fantasy series that will forever remain one of my top series of all time. It had everything I was looking for. Sometimes you just want an original series with amazing character development, slow burn romance, found family, without so much smut and filler chapters 😆👏🏼 it’s not every day you come across a series as good as this one. Thank you, Helen for bringing us into this riveting world of Cyrens, Warlocks and Sea Drakes.

I wasn’t sure what to think when I started this series, and I almost chose not to read the second book. I am so happy I continued though, the series really improved as it went on and the ending definitely had me in tears. There’s a lot of originality that I haven’t read in other series, but I also haven’t read many cyren books. Would definitely recommend.

My Thoughts

To Wield a Crown is among the best finales I have EVER read. Hands down. This final piece to Roh + her companion's story, and really the series as a whole, will live in my heart and mind as one of my all-time favorites... right there with the Ember in the Ashes Quartet, Red Rising and the other rare few books that burrowed their way into my soul.

This book was absolutely incredible. Helen Scheuerer has woven lives and growth of her characters together so beautifully that you just cannot not help but to become invested in their joy, pain, struggles and triumphs. And there is a lot of all of those my friends.

“Stone will crumble and land will fester, until the winged one flies forth…”

Helen Scheuerer

Roh and company are on the final leg of their quest for the Gauntlet Ruby to complete the crown of bones, capture the throne, and save her people from impending war. The stakes are high in Wield with our crew having to find new ways to defy the elders, water warlocks, other worldly storms and time itself. There are so many masterfully developed revelations, particularly around the history between our Elder Slayer and Delja the Triumphant. The plot is well-paced and intricately unfolded in a way that kept me on the edge of my seat and turning the page late into the night. And have I mentioned yet that there is an ABSOLUTELY EPIC battle?!? It was thrilling and worthy of being on the big screen.

I have said this several times before, Helen Scheuerer is a BRILLIANT world builder. From the Lair of Bones to Lochloria and every corner of the realm in between, there is a distinct richness and vibrancy that brings the story to life right before your eyes. And as amazing as the world is, the development of the characters on their own and together shined EVEN MORE in this quartet. I loved how each character had their own role in Roh's journey from Yrsa being the calm voice of reason and Finn the fire to Harlyn as her roots and Odi + Deodan as mirrors as well as challengers to everything Roh thought was truth. Over the course of this story they have become so strong together that the absence of any one of them is truly felt. My FAVORITE character quickly became Finn which says so much about how incredible of a writer Scheuerer is as I don't change my mind about a character often. Both he and Roh grew in such well-developed and authentic ways that it was easy to forget where they started... as adversaries. It was so natural. There was one really beautifully tender moment with Finn that had my heart bursting and really highlighted this. Okay who am I kidding, there were a lot of those small but powerful moments... but this one... you are in for a treat.

To Wield a Crown was not without its heartache. It is pretty rare for a story to truly move me to tears, let alone sobs, but this book is now on that list. It destroyed me and yet there was so much hope threaded throughout the entire Curse of the Cyren Queen Quartet that this happily ever after loving book nerd still felt satisfied with this finale. I told you Helen was a cyren...

Overall

Overall the only downside to this story is that it is over. I could stay immersed in this world and follow these characters to the ends of the realm forever. I loved every single epic, world-shattering, emotional, throat-punching, mesmerizing moment of both To Wield a Crown and the quartet as a whole. Helen's characters have stolen my heart. This series 100% solidified her as an auto-buy author for me and I will be revisiting this story often. I cannot wait to reread them all as audio books. Do yourself a favor and meet Rohesia of the Bone Cleaners and her companions now in A Lair of Bones !

"Never forget this part of yourself, the part that wants to create, to build things, to contribute to a better world."

This series has been such an unexpectedly emotional journey! This final book has somewhat ruined me (the last 20% specifically)... Rohesia has come so far since we were first introduced to her as a 'lowly bone cleaner' and daughter of The Elder Slayer.

Roh's sheer determination to create a better world, a better future for her companions and the realms as a whole was beyond inspiring. After facing self-doubt, hatred, betrayal and a plethora of injustices, she STILL came out the other end more compassionate and empathetic than ever.

"I’m no trained soldier,’ she said. ‘But the blood of warrior cyrens and warlocks runs through my veins and I will not hide in the shadows while others die for my kingdom."

It was so refreshing to experience the growth of Roh's friendship group, and everyone who joined them along the way. Each new character we met changed the dynamic in the best way, each adding their own flare and personality to Roh's ever-growing friends and family list.

This was overall a super enjoyable and easy series for me to read. Action-packed trials, adventure, magic, betrayal, love and a reminder that there is no limit to what one will do for those they care about. Once again, I find myself in awe of Helen and her ability to wrap me up in a world of her making. I would highly recommend 'Curse of the Cyren Queen' to anyone wanting to delve into a unique fantasy series with a determined and resilient fmc, found family and a strong coming of age story!

3.5 stars! I’m so torn! I loved a lot of aspects of this series but I was also bored a lot and it felt really repetitive. I did read this super slow on morning drives with my kiddo which may have played a role in my lower rating. This has a lot of great elements in a YA fantasy—sirens, warlocks and humans, high stakes, political intrigue, great character arcs, world-building that is seamless and easy to visualize and many parallels to society and equality. I am glad we got more backstory on Roh’s mother and uncle. The end of our audio bundle has some novellas (which I had no idea existed) & that kiddo wants to read through so we’ll dive in and see if that gives us more depth to the storyline before we say goodbye to this world.

At long last the conclusion to Roh’s story is here, and all I can say is WOW!

If there’s anything I learnt about the author after reading this series is that she’s a beautiful storyteller. All our questions were wrapped up in this beautifully written high staked fantasy. Roh and her team have one final battle to overcome in order to triumph, and they did it oh so well.

The world building in this series has been superb! I’ve loved learning more and more about the world of Cyrens as each progresses.

This is a brilliant YA fantasy that I highly, highly recommend to all.

I had the pleasure of receiving an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Another great book from this author.

This was the ending to the Cyren Queen series and it's been an enjoyable series . I loved the characters the most , a great mix of personalities

As an ending the plot was very good, it really makes you feel this book! And I loved where it left our MC off . I enjoyed finally learning about her mother's history .

One thing I would say about the whole series is that I wish thered been some more distinction between human and Cyren, by the end it just felt like they were all good people so why did they find killing humans so easy at the beginning?

This may be one of my favorite series. I know people compare it to SJM but it's more in line (for me at least) with Six of Crows/Crooked Kingdom (maybe bc at least no one says mate even once).

Characters get developed and the world building is great bc there is SO much more to explore. The timeline for the fallout between the Cyrens and Water Warlocks is still confusing to me but I prob will just go back and re-read.

The 3.5 (although I rounded up) is bc of the death. it was NOT needed. Spoilers below

For me, it didn't add any emotional resonance to the story (although I was sad bc I liked that character) and felt tacked on to free up Harlyn and remove humans from the fantasy realm of stories, esp with the new edict allowing cyrens to play music. I know she couldn't kill off Finn but I wasn't into their romance so I'd have been fine with it. IF anyone even needed to die. Dude didn't even have to be there and I can't figure out why he was!

Anyway, here's to the next adventure with Roh and Harlyn to get their girl back.

I loved this series and love this author!!
The last instalment was perfect so many tropes - action, found family, chosen one and romance to name a few.
The development of the characters throughout the series was great. Some heartache too and I may have shed a tear.

EDIT: I'm still not healed so I don't think I could ever actually rate this. Nonetheless, it was an okay finale.

I feel empty. The way I’ve been sobbing nonstop for like Lord knows how many pages since THAT happened. Wanted it to be a silly little joke so bad but I’m crushed. Heart ripped in two.

I can’t even talk about the book cause THAT moment single-handedly took over and now I can’t think about or feel anything else.

im still mad as hell odi was done so dirty. for the first time in forever, i was rooting for f2l over e2l bc finn was rude af to roh and he's the typical romantasy li. now im not a roh fan either but her dynamic with odi in btw lines, which i thought was me reaching, but another reviewer pointed out too. they had so much more complexity. odi being in her command, hating her but coming to care for her and roh, doing the most for him yeah the wasted potential... i don't want a finn redemption arc! he's boring

also why does this have open sexual scenes 😭 first two books read as lower ya. kids about to jump off their seats! this new trend is ruining literature pls there is a time and place for everything. this wasn't it! but Helen can Write good rom scenes. I'm excited for her next fantasy rom series. just wish she doesn't go with the wrong guy again.

I. Am. Devastated. This book shattered my heart into a million pieces, but what an incredible finale to a phenomenal series that will have a special place in my heart for the rest of my life.

I'm going to do something I've yet to do in a goodreads review and talk about spoilers.

I am not okay with Odi's death. I have not sobbed over a character with such sorrow in a long time. He was my favourite. He was the story's lifeline, and I will mourn him for a long time to come. But I know saving Roh's life is how he would've wanted to go. I love that he wrote a final piece for Roh. I love that Deodan is building a music hall in his honour. I love that Roh tore the ledger in two like she promised and covered the bone entrance of Saddoriel with flowers. So while his passing hurts, I know he would be happy.

And Roh! She has a lifesong! I think that was such a cool and fitting plot twist and really fits with Roh's journey. I was unhappy with the relationship at first, but I'm glad Roh and Finn have each other now. I'm also super happy with how Roh instated Yrsa as a second Queen. It makes so much sense.

My heart aches for Harlyn. She deserved more time with Odi, but I'm glad he let her know how he felt before he died. And I'm super happy that she's found a new purpose in life and I hope that her and Roh can find Orson.

As for Delja... I did not suspect that she was the true Elder Slayer, though I also didn't believe Cerys had done it either, at least not for a good reason. It really just shows how power corrupts and festers. I'm sad that the two lost their friendship in such a brutal way but I'm glad Cerys is finally free and at home in Lochloria.

To conclude, this series now has a place on my favourites shelf and I have read few that are anywhere near as good, complex, and wonderfuly executed. Maybe, when the pain of Odi isn't so fresh, I'll revisit these pages, and I sincerely hope the author comes back to this world and these characters because I feel like they have even more potential for something just as spectacular.

This book was such an amazing finale to a series. I was so excited to find out what happened but I also didn’t want to say goodbye to these characters. They all went on such a journey together and created great relationships along the way. I did feel bad for Roh because she’s had to do so much for this challenge, most of it was unexpected and not what she signed up for. She is such a determined character despite everything she has gone through.

As always, I loved the characters in this book and I enjoyed the characters meeting new people on their journey. I feel like we have got to know the characters so well, we have definitely some great character developments. Roh will always have a special place with me, she just takes everything on no matter how tough. I don’t want to say too much about the plot because I don’t want to spoil the series for anyone.

In this book, we get to read about the present day events but we also get some insight into Roh’s past and her parents which is interesting to read about. It feels special to live these moment with Roh and feel like you have discovered this information with her. I enjoyed the pace of this book, the events which took place were spread out so to keep the excitement of the reader. The book starts where the last book finished, I love the continuation of the series and how it can be read altogether. I might have to go back and reread the series back to back at some point.

I love this authors style of writing, it is so captivating and descriptive. The inclusion of a map as well as the descriptions, I could fully imagine what the world was like and imagine the situation and characters were in. With this book being a fantasy, everything is explained so well so there is never any confusion. I always have that worry with a fantasy that the author will use terminology that I don’t understand, but this is not the case with any of this authors books. I highly recommend this series as well as the authors other series.

Curse of the Cyren Queen quartet by Helen Scheuerer

Rating: 5 🌟 from Book 1-4

Wow! This series has just clawed its way into my top 5 of all time!

The series starts with Rohesia, a lowly bone cleaner and daughter of a criminal, aiming to win the Queen’s Tournament— a tournament held every 50 years to determine cyrenkind’s next ruler.

Things I liked about it:
✅ Girl power - the amount of strong, cunning, amazing women in this series is staggering
✅ MMC with disability — this is a first for me!
✅ Found family vibes — the friendship between these characters is one of the best I’ve read in a long time
✅ Each core character has amazing character development and was given their own shining moments
✅ Glimpses into the past were done masterfully leaving the strongest impact to the readers
✅ Unique take on cyrens, interesting magic system
✅ The enemies-to-lover trope and the slow burn romance were done tastefully
✅ Delivered a satisfying ending to an amazing quartet

What I didn’t like:
❌ I felt like the final book was rushed and that the final battles could have been fleshed out more. It would have helped make this series more epic!

Give this quartet a try if you are looking for your next fantasy read. 💗

Some of my favorite quotes from the series:

“That's the thing about choices, Rohesia. Once you've made them, you own them for life.”

“You are never, nor should you ever be, accountable for someone else’s disgusting behavior. It’s not your responsibility to placate a temper or protect an ego.”

“Go where the fear is the deepest.”

“Maybe some things need to be broken before they can be welded back together, to be stronger than ever before...”

“Grief is complicated. No one has the right to grieve more or less than someone else.”

“You can always change your mind, Roh. Ambitions can change, motivations can change. It doesn't make anything less valid or less worthwhile. Perhaps it makes them even more so.”

What can I say… I have laughed and I have cried… what a journey. I am sad to say good bye.

One of my favourite authors and totally recommend all her books!!

In To Wield a Crown, the final installment of Helen Scheuerer’s The Curse of the Cyren Queen series, the stakes are higher, the world richer, and the characters more compelling than ever. Scheuerer once again proves her mastery in fantasy storytelling, but it is the emotional depth and evolution of her characters that truly sets this novel apart.

At the heart of the story is Roh, the resilient and sharp-edged heroine whose journey from an outcast to a powerful queen is both stirring and intimate. Scheuerer has always excelled at character development, but here, Roh’s internal struggles are particularly poignant. She grapples with the burden of leadership, the weight of sacrifice, and the gray morality of power—all without losing the raw vulnerability that has defined her since the beginning.

Supporting characters are not mere side notes but fully fleshed individuals with motivations and arcs of their own. Characters like Odi and the fearsome yet loyal crew of companions are given ample room to grow, challenge Roh, and even confront their own demons. Their interactions go beyond plot mechanics—they feel like living, breathing people shaped by love, loss, and loyalty.

Scheuerer weaves character introspection seamlessly into the narrative, never slowing the pacing but enriching the emotional stakes. What results is a fantasy epic that feels personal she creates an unimaginable connection to the characters.

To Wield a Crown is a triumphant conclusion that rewards longtime readers with a satisfying blend of thrilling action and complex, emotionally resonant character arcs. For fans of character-driven fantasy, it’s not to be missed.

To Wield a Crown by Helen Scheuerer is the final piece of Rohesia’s journey, which spanned the Curse of the Cyren Queen quartet. I was incredibly lucky to get an e-ARC of this beauty, & I was mesmerised from start to finish...

Roh is sailing to the land where the last gem (the Gauntlet Ruby) awaits, with just three weeks to complete her task & truly be Queen. But when she arrives, there’s so much more at play than just the finale to the Queen’s Tournament. Akorian refugees are starving at the edges of Lamaka’s Basin, & the warlocks are ready to strike a major blow against the cyrens. The only way Roh can save her people is to complete her crown of bones, but will she be able to retrieve the Gauntlet Ruby? Can she return to Talon’s Reach in time? And when war breaks out, who will be left standing?

Helen is a genius at placing important plot devices & reveals in just the right parts. Some authors give us a story without giving us *depth*, if that makes sense. But Helen doesn’t do this to us. Instead, Helen writes with a comprehensive richness, taking us from the very bottom of the lair of bones, all the way to the heights of Valli’s soaring form in the air.

Everything, absolutely everything, about this last chapter in Roh’s story has been a glittering triumph. To Wield a Crown is pure majesty, & I would follow Rohesia to any corner of the realm. Helen Scheuerer has shown, once again, why she is a must-buy author for me. There are no faults in her stories; Helen’s characters have dominion over my heart, & she reigns over the genre of fantasy.

To Wield a Crown is an intense yet satisfying final book that does the series justice. It was one of my most eagerly anticipated books of the year and it absolutely did not disappoint.

It picks up shortly after Book 3 left off with Roh struggling to come to terms with the loss of her death song. She and her friends must continue to fight to retrieve the final gemstone in order for Roh to claim her rightful spot as queen. And that’s only the start of it! We also finally learn about Cerys’s and Delja’s past and what happened before Cerys’s imprisonments.

This book is much more action packed than its predecessors and it’s very busy tying up all the loose ends. Because of this, it’s not as quick of a read and at times feels almost fatiguing. However, the author successfully provides closure and much needed answers.

The characters we have grown to know and love continue to shine. It’s amazing to see their growth since the start of the series. I adore Roh, with all her determination and resilience. But for me it’s Finn and Valli who really steal the show.

The romantic subplot is just the best. The romance is the sweet type that gives you butterflies and Finn and Roh’s relationship is so supportive and healthy. I am here for it and I wish other authors would take notes!

Finally, the writing is gorgeous. Helen Scheuerer is an extremely talented author and pulls off the difficult feat of successfully wrapping up a series (USyd alumni represent!) I really enjoyed the ending, though there is heartbreak, as is only right for a series finale. I am pleased to say that I shed a few tears while reading, which is the sign of a truly great book.

This is the fourth and final book of the series. The author delivers everything I hoped for and then some! When ending book three, there was still a good bit of pieces missing to the story, questions that needed to be answered, and throughout book four, almost all of my questions were answered and wrapped up nicely with bow on top! This is a wonderful ending to the series. Lots of betrayal, heartbreak, emotional turmoil, but also so so much love and friendship. Roh still needs to get the third and final birthstone, and she knows it will be anything but easy. Are there any lines Roh won't cross in order to obtain the Crown? In order to be Queen, what will it cost her? What will it cost her friends and family? The romance between Finn and Roh is literally swoon worthy😍 and they are absolutely adorable! The character growth in all of them is tremendous, while all still staying true to who they are at heart. Loyalties will be tested, more lies are told, and secrets are unfolding at a insanely fast pace. War is coming, but will cyren-kind even have a ruler to protect them, or will they all perish? Cyrens, Warlocks and Humans must all come together in order to make a better world, but is that even possible after all of the hurt, betrayal and lies between their kinds?

TO WEILD A CROWN is the action packed finale to this quartet. Roh has one last jewel to find, right at the heart of the decimated city of the water warlocks. And to make matters worse, the surviving water warlocks want revenge, not to mention the council still don't approve of her.

There's a lot of danger and threats facing Roh, making this book feel pacy and full of ratcheting tension. There's a "temple trap" esque sequence (always love those!) a great battle, and lots of smaller confrontations too. The truth of what happened centuries ago between Cerys and Delja will come out, tying up lots of smaller mysteries along the way.

There is a cost to all of it, and it was nicely foreshadowed in the opening. It does make for a very sad ending and there's a sense that the story will continue after the books have ended as they all learn to heal and find a new path forward in the newly created world. I liked the balance struck about what the new world will look like, and the acknowledgement that systematic change takes time to enact, even if everyone is on board because it's about changing attitudes and enforcing new practices.
