It had always been Sonny and Adair against the world. The day she stole his juice box in the second grade, the two had been joint at the hip. Adair would give his life for Sonny, and vice versa. Sonny, the product of New York City foster care, was always about school. It was all she had, and all she needed to escape the system.
Adair, born to a single mother who worked hard to provide, didn’t need school. All he needed was his mother, Sonny and the streets. The streets were going to provide him with the money and stability that he needed in order to give Sonny the life she deserved.
Sonny and Adair’s bond was deep, layered, and rooted in loyalty, but it wasn’t without flaws. Adair was spoiled and at times selfish, using his ex-fiancée as a placeholder instead of being upfront about his true feelings. I honestly wish he had been honest with Sonny from the beginning, because she deserved that kind of transparency. Still, their love felt real and raw, the kind of ride-or-die connection that makes you want to root for them
A friends to lovers quick read. Started out as best friends with feelings for one another, then time away only to return back home and the love is still there.
This was a very good read but it was soooo short! I’ve never read anything by Jahquel J. that was so short. It was a good short story but I wish she would have added more and made it a series. It had soooo much potential to be an awesome story. It was a really good read, but very short.
I hate when the reviews are misleading. Did they not just read the same book that I just read? Where was the romance between Adair and Sonny? They spent the entire book up until the last page distant and apart. There wasn’t any chemistry between them at all. Then it didn’t make sense, it was so many discrepancies. First, it was stated that she was gone for 4 years then it turn into 5. Then Adair supposedly met Aubree before she left then it turn into after Sonny left they met. Then it was stated that Sonny had been in foster care since age 5 then it turned into age 3. Then Adair supposedly told her that he loved her the previous year and then she turn around and sleep with his best friend. But she loves Adair though? Make it make sense! Then we’re not going to even talk about the grammatical errors. I don’t know why these authors won’t invest in a good editor and stop relying on spellcheck. This book was a waste of time and money, neither can I get back!
This was a page-turning new adult short about two friends who’ve hidden their feelings from each other so as not to ruin their friendship. I didn’t love how Adair strung his fiancée along knowing full well he didn’t love her like that but again the MCs are pretty young and perhaps a little silly (more Adair than Sonny). Thankfully their cast of friends and family is present to set them straight.
Overall I was intrigued enough that I would love to read a full Sonny and Adair story.
Yes I would love to read more about Sonny and Adair, does he stay with her, dies she make it in Germany? I was wondering when they would really confess their love for each other. I knew he liked her when he split his sandwich with her and moved over so she could join him. I probably would have married him then😘😘😘. Loved it and please, can we know how they end up!!!!
Sonny and Adair, true friends to lovers!!!…We really need more of these 2!!!…I was so excited to see where their story would go and then it was over!!!… I love how Adair’s family brought Sonny in and never let her go!!!… Solo has his hands full w/ his child’s mother and his honesty about remaining friends with Sonny and was not in denial about Adair and Sonny loving each other!!!…
Best friends becoming lovers of in a relationship can be tricky, but Adair and Sonny knew all along they were in Love with each other, just as their family and friends knew as well! I love to see more of Adair and Sonny, while I enjoyed the ending I know their s more to their characters!
This was different…..but I enjoyed it! I enjoy anything that Jah writes, cuz she’s just talented and natural like that. I would love to hear more Sonny and Adair and their challenges cause I’m sure there will be. I’m glad he came to his senses before it was too late. Great love story.
LawdAMercy why you tease me with this story, Sonny a full fledge survivor and Adair the love of her life and they both playing with each other, she won't commit and he stuck with a person he don't even want. Smh, but please update us on what happens after they get to Germany.
I love this! Definitely need more of them!! They were frustrating me at first about hiding their feelings, but I’m glad it’s finally out. Would love to see what more is in stored for them!
I did enjoy this book and would love to hear more about this couple. I was wondering why did Aubree accepted Adair's proposals, knowing that he was not in love with her?
Loved this short story, but we the people need more. I’m glad Sonny got out her head and laid her home art out with what she felt as well as even though it hurt knew that she needed to keep pressing forward with her career.
I knew they were in love with each other all along I'm glad it worked out between them because Ambree was doing way to much I would love to see their love blossom more and for Alani to find love too
I loved this book..I’m glad Adair got away from aubree sad it happened the way i did but oh well. Sonny deserve all the happiness in the world. Glad she left solo alone too.
This was such a cute love story !! I love friends turned lovers !! Sonny was so driven and she didn’t just allow a man to throw her off her game !! I absolutely want a part 2 to see if they get together and stay together
Short and sweet. At first Sonny and Adair was getting on my nerves with the back and forth. But when he showed up at the airport my heart was content. I hope we get a spinoff of this couple.
I would love to see where these two go from here. Now that they finally admitted their feelings with each other.....can they build that relationship from best friends to lovers to marriage? Would love to find out!
I am so glad that Adair came to his senses. I really didn’t like how Aubree and her mom was rushing the engagement party. Let them relish in the moment before announcing it to the rest of the world. I would love to see more of themes
Love the story We'd like to hear more about this couple how things were in Germany if they made a go of it You know things like that thank you for sharing your gift a story telling you always put me right in the book
I loved this story and I definitely want to hear more about their journey together. I felt like right when things were getting to the thick of it, the book ended leaving me wanting more.
I’d love to hear more about Sonny and Adair. This was a nice, quick story. Aubree was horrible. I know some feel she was justified but she had no right to treat Sonny that way.
Man Jahquel definitely leaves you fulfilled with her storyline but craving more at the same time. I definitely want to know more about Sonny and Adair's relationship. I strongly suggest this book.
This was a great short read. I really need more on Adair & Sonny. I want to know how things worked out for them. I have so many questions and not enough answers. I just know their love life will be something special 🥰
This is a light, quick read that I can appreciate. A couple of critiques, though: Sonny and Adair were clearly meant to be together! Who were they fooling?! Wasting people’s time — even their own lol! All in all, if you’re secretly in love with your best friend, just be with them. 😂
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was a quick short story. Love a good romance. Best friend secretly in love with each other, but also in a different relationship I love the independency of the female character and not wanting to change herself just because she was in love with the main character.
Can we please get a book 2. There was so much that needed to be discussed and Sonny and Adair need another book to continue their story. We need their best friendship turned relationship/ marriage in another book!!!
I loved this quick read. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for them to confess their love for one another. I really didn't like Aubree. Or her mom. A great read by Jahquel.
I understand this was a short story but for some reason, I wanted more. I also felt like Sonny and Adair had more to offer. It was crazy how everything played out but what's meant to be will be. I enjoyed this though.
I feel like this was a teaser. I most definitely need more of these two. It was like she waa playing with our feelings. I was like I know you lying. Where is the rest?
