It was good tautly written western. it introduced a nrew character in a fictional western Texas town who becomes a new deputy who then inadvertently blasts up local outlaws. There is plnety of gunplay and subtrefuge as the outlaws swear revenge on the hapless new deputy. Will he survive another ambush attempt on his life? Well, you just don't know! a good read!
24-51. Great story about a town named Tinhorn, Sheriff Buck, and a young upstart Flint. I really enjoyed the story, the characters, and the overall quality. I LOVED that there was a woman bad guy who wasn't a prostitute. What a concept that a woman could be a bad guy who wasn't called Ma or was not a soiled dove. I borrowed this audio book from the Sacramento Public Library through the Libby app.
I'm not one to read a lot of westerns, although I did love all the western TV series as a child. A lot of bad guys got shot, the women were all respectable (even the saloon gals), the good guys brave and handsome. This book reminds me a lot of that. Not literary art by any means, but certainly easy to read and very engaging. Our hero Flint was brought up to show respect and good manners; sweet.
Young Flint Moran leaves the family farm to become a Deputy in the nearby town of Tinhorn. He finds adventures he never dreamed of. With the Sheriff being a bit addicted to the bottle, he is needed more than ever when a gang is set on taking over. The woman is particularly heartless which makes this book different than most. Both hubby and I enjoy reading westerns and this story has all the thrills and details of the old west. Thanks for great writing as we read Book Two.
My first western book. The characters are strong and memorable. Because of the new genre, it took me a little while to actually get into the story. The ending was different than what seemed to be coming also. It's a good book, just not my normal type of read.
If this were a John Wayne movie, it'd be just as good. Two men become friends, town drama, and bands of outlaws. It's nice to read a wholesome Western these days.
Smooth talking and so self assured but you can't wait for the next adventure of Flint Moran. He is an enigma but has the nose for his job as deputy. Looking to see what adventures await Tinhorn!
Thank you to the author, publisher and Goodreads Giveaways for the complimentary paperback copy. Great western set in a small Texas town. Highly recommend!
A Gunsmoke style western, like I read in my younger years! First in a series, but don't think I need more. Young man from ranch with wonderful family, but too many kids left at home, becomes assistant Sheriff to help town, and likes the job.
This was the first western I’ve read, and needless to say I loved it! The book was very well written and each character i found a great interest in.
My only gripe is that the end seemed very lack-luster, Ada is implied to be a force to be reckoned with — A character that’d cause Flint some true trouble and yet, she is taken down quite easy at the end of the book.. And what of the bank robbery? Felt like that was supposed to be a big part of the book but it ends up being settled within a single page. A bit of a let down although I will let it slide. It was a great book overall.
