Once I had a secret that was big and monstery... I thought of it as Blue.
But Blue the monster doesn't have to be scary. And he doesn't have to be a secret. After all, we all feel blue from time to time and talking about it helps.
A friendly, gentle story to help young children navigate big emotions.
A beautifully short book about big emotions and feelings. Blue can symbolise anything; it could be depression, anxiety, grief or a myriad of other feelings. A great way to simplistically convey how to express emotions to both children and adults alike.
This sensitive picture book has a very important message - we all feel blue sometimes and it's more than ok to talk about it! I love the fact that the writing is in coloured pencil and looks like a child may have written it (in keeping with the fact that the story is written in first person) and the cover with its shiny rain droplets (tears?) is very effective. Would make an excellent addition to any primary school library mindfulness section.
💙 What a wonderful book to encourage children to acknowledge and talk about their emotions! This book is warm, gentle and one that reflects genuine care. 🔵 It is great that this is told through the eyes of a small child to enhance the relatability to those reading it, or having it read to them. I really enjoyed how the author has pointed out that we don’t have to be scared of feeling sad.
💙 A beautiful reminder to talk about how we are feeling and that it is ok to feel a little ‘blue’ sometimes.
🔵 Recommend for children aged 3-6 years old. RRP $24.99.
🧠 Teaching Point: EMOTIONS: This book lends itself to the creation of an open and honest classroom in which students can feel safe sharing their own feelings. Whether that be worries, fears or sadness, this book opens the doorway to discussions about our emotions.
