Once a thief, always a thief?
One night, the past catches up with former model (not to mention former thief) Jan Hutchinson. When she stumbles on what she believes is her friend’s bleeding body, Jan nearly follows that fate. To stay alive and find out why members of her old crew (think runaways, not runways) disappear one by one, she needs the help of the only policeman she trusts—her ex-boyfriend, Luis Powers.
The issue is, Luis Powers doesn’t know whether he trusts her after she broke his heart. But, with danger surrounding them, they must figure out how to survive—together, not to mention each other.

I liked getting to read January Hutchinson's story after she was introduced in Scent of Danger. Her identical twin Maya had been looking for her sister who was missing in that story and had assumed her identity to do it. Maya was a police officer and January was a top model. After things about her past were revealed in that story, January left the modeling industry when her difficult past was revealed.

In this book she has been working with troubled teen girls and she gets a phone call from someone in her past who said she was being threatened. When January gets to the place the woman was living she finds her bleeding and then someone attacks her, knocking her out. Something is seriously wrong when the people from the old crew she hung out with when she was a runaway were all dying or disappearing. It seems like someone is trying to implicate her. January reaches out to the only police office she would ever trust her ex-boyfriend Luis Powers to help her find her missing friend.

When Luis Powers got a call from the woman who broke his heart- he knew he had to help her. Showing up after she had already arrived at the house, he found her unconscious with a bleeding head and it seemed like she had been drugged. Walking away from her and the dangerous situation she was facing was not an option for him. He still had deep feelings for her and would love to have a second chance.

This is another great story in this series with drama, mystery and suspense as well as romance.

Luis and Jan’s story is a wonderful second chance at love romance with intrigue and suspense added to make it even more captivating. Even though she broke his heart years ago, Luis, a dedicated cop and a man of faith, runs to Jan’s rescue when she calls him for help. She is no longer a sought after model, but has found a new career that makes her happier. She helps troubled teens now, giving them the benefit of her experience and guiding them toward better choices in life. Now the people she ran with as a troubled teen runaway have either disappeared or turned up dead and Jan needs Luis to help her before the same happens to her. Luis knows that she may break his heart again, but he can’t refuse to help or protect her, despite the urging of his family. As the danger escalates, and as he and Jan continue to investigate, Luis becomes aware that Jan is not the woman he thought she was before. She has more substance, more compassion and hints that she left him for his own good. Could they really have a second chance at a happily ever after? Someone definitely doesn’t intend for that to happen.

I loved the strong, well developed characters as well as the suspenseful storyline and underlying theme of redemption. This is another wonderful book to add to my keeper list. I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Author Alexa Verde has written a second-chance romance with edge-of-your-seat suspense. I love the main characters. January, a former fashion model, now works with at-risk teenage girls. Luis is a 3rd generation police officer. His deep faith is in contrast to her lack of faith at the start of the book. The plot has more twists and turns than a switch-back road coming down a steep mountain. In spite of the clues, I had no idea who the villain was.
I was glad to get to go back to Rios Azules. Although Winter of Danger is a standalone book, I'd recommend that you read the series because it's all too good to miss.
I received a complimentary copy and am sharing my opinion of this very well-written book.

This is a great book! I loved Jan and Luis's story! Luis has loved Jan for years, though he's tried to get over her after she dumped him. Jan broke up with Luis thinking it was the right thing for him. Now, trouble has come to her door, and the first person she thinks of is Luis. She knows she can trust him, and he'll help her even though she broke his heart. When the two are forced to work together to stay alive, will she realize that God will do better with her life if she accepts Him and let's Him have control? She knows she's done a lousy job, and Luis has definitely shown her how Jesus loves. Will she learn in time that she can depend on both Jesus and Luis?

I received a complimentary copy of this book, was not required to leave a review, and the opinion expressed is my own.

Jan was a famous model until her past caught up with her. When she came back home her former friends started disappearing and dying, she called the one person who had always been there for her, her former boyfriend Luis who happened to be a police officer. I love this book because it keeps you wondering what is going to happen next and who is behind all of the murders and disappearances. Alexa Verde does a tremendous job at keeping you guessing. This book is amazing and I highly recommend this book. “I received ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.”

Winter of Danger

Alexa Verde has another winner. This book starts out fast and gets straight to the action with missing persons, danger and even murder. It is a clean romantic suspense. Jan had broken Luis’ heart but when she needs backup he is the only one she can trust. She is not only a former model but was a runaway and a thief. Luis is her hero and an honest cop. Will they be able to find out who murdered one of the gang from her youth and why the other members of the gang have gone missing?

Great Christain Series

I'm really enjoying this series, the stories and the characters. Louis and Jan loved each other but Jan has many things from her past that she feels stand in the way of them being together. When her past suffices they start to work together to clear her. Can the two of them overcome it all and take a this second chance at love. A really great read that I read straight through.

Don’t start unless you have time to finish!

Yeah… busy schedule and it took 2 days with 3 times of having to put the book down before I had time to finish it. JUST. ABOUT. KILLED. ME. The suspense of NEEDING to know-between the mystery of what was happening to Jan’s former friends, Jan and Luis’ POSSIBLE romance, AND Jan’s dance around all things God and faith related, concentrating on work and other responsibilities 🤦‍♀️ HARD. Very HARD!

Danger, With a Twist

If you love suspense, danger, mixed with unresolved love, then you need to read Winter of Danger!
Alexa Verde brings you into the past hurts, the future fears and the present crisis and you feel it all, as if you're part of it. The best part for me, I didn't have it figured out early in the book!

The past makes the present

Jan couldn't outrun it,but could she outlive it? Who is behind all these threats and are they making her their next target. Jan had never trusted, was it time to now? Luis was to important not to, she had to trust God to help her.
