Lunar flares are on the rise, sending the city’s appliances into meltdown, and bringing a new breed of supernaturals out of the shadows.
But for Lex Huntley, it’s just another day in the office. As one of the best Repo Agents in the city, she’s known more for her muscle than her magic.
She’s a pro at chasing down stolen assets, until a routine coven raid takes her by surprise. Not only are they wielding magic far beyond their reach, but the witches have abducted the local alpha and are draining him of his powers. Lex has no choice but to free him, which puts her in the crosshairs of an Underworld conspiracy.
Suddenly, her simple life is besieged by vengeful witches, dangerous warlocks, and a handsome shifter with problems of his own. When a dead body turns up on her doorstep, the Underworld comes knocking, and Lex is forced into a confrontation that will change her forever.
Hide & Seek is the first book in The Repossessed Series, but can be read as a standalone. For fans of Kate Daniels, Jane Yellowrock and Alice Worth
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Wonderful story, great characters, a paranormal retro agent gets dragging into a dark conspiracy. A tale full of ancient gods and demons, vampires and werewolves and full of Celtic and Greek mythology. A little love interest and an on going mystery to keep you interested for the next in the series. Simone is a new author to me and she weaves a wonderful tale with so many different strands. I will definitely be reading the next book. A real page turner that hooked me immediately.

First, the trigger list: ° Labraghouldle (cool animal encounter) ° Paranormal relic hunter agency ° Clean romantic subplot (no kissing, even) ° First Person POV, MF (male/female only) ° Gods and monsters.
Do you love Ilona Andrews “Magic Bites” series where the technology and magic ebb and surge like the tides? So did I, and I am glad to see a different take on the concept. In “Hide and Seek,” Lex is a moon child who is desperate to find her missing brother, desperate enough to steal from her job in order to bribe a power for answers. At the same time, she is attempting to follow the job rules and hide her true powers. All a morally gray complicated mess.
The Magic System: While technology is dependent upon moon surges (whatever that means), the magic seems unaffected. There are demons, gods, fae, vampires, mages, and shifters. I call it the kitchen sink of paranormals, but the system seems to be reliant upon phases of the moon.
The Romance: There are a number of minor characters to make the plot complex and interesting. Declan is the hot love interest. As leader of a shifter pack, though, he must consider the best interests of the pack, and they don’t involve Lex. I admit I almost cried at one point. Don’t expect the plot to revolve around the romance, though.
The other characters: Darragh, a druid or stag shifter, inserts himself into Lex’s investigations, and I wonder both if he is attracted to her and if he is investigating her. As the protector of the forest, or self-declared leader over the pack, in a way, he keeps ominously hinting at a war coming. Her partner Willis, is an older ex-policeman who tries to deal with the unknown in a suave, cool way but every time he learns that the paranormal world is more extensive than he knew, I keep imagining fingers in his ears as he screams “la la lalala!” He makes me laugh and respect him at the same time. The demons: they are portrayed well. You could easily be fooled into a demonic deal without realizing; they are so smooth about it. The Demon of Nightmares is caught in the witches’ trap, but even he has ulterior motives. And Green Eyes: the repairman. The mysterious cavalry. The man with a matching tattoo. As far as characters go, no one was a wilting flower.
Negatives: There are a small number of syntax errors but they did not impede the story. In addition, there is a climactic ending where Lex is dying—-and dying—and dying. I felt like she was way too observant for someone stabbed in the heart.
I truly liked this story! It ended well but also left some leaders towards the next book, and I love the title.
I loved this book and can't wait for the next one. This was not your typical paranormal romance, in fact, there was very little focus on the romance part of it and more on everything else that was going on. I loved how it was focused on a future world where magic has been exposed and the effect it had on how life was lived. There were tons of twists and turns and to be honest I was never really sure what was going to happen. While it didn't exactly end in a cliffhanger, it did leave you with lots of unanswered questions and very anxious for the next book to come out.

Perfect take on urban fantasy. A cool new hero on a quest, and intriguing side characters. It’s dark in places, but cracked me up too. Werewolves, witches, and warlocks get a unique spin. Can’t wait for the next book!
The first in a series, Hide & Seek, by Simone Leigh Martin, is a paranormal, comedic page-turner.
The novel follows Alexa "Lexy" Huntley, a paranormal repossession agent who's quick-witted and street smart. She lives in a world where magic use is a regular occurrence, lunar flares that mess with anything electronic, and witches, warlocks, vampires, and shifters make up the populace.
Out for a routine collection, having been tracking a magical object needing repossession with her hardened partner Willis, things go cosmically askew. The creepy coven of witches has conjured up some very black magic involving holding a shifter hostage as a sacrifice. Unfortunately, when Lexy tries to investigate the coven, she ends up in over her head.
Martin's writing style is descriptive but well-paced, thoughtful, and engaging. The characters have well-conceived backgrounds, even making the side characters have depth not typical in other paranormal, urban fantasy novels. Lexy's background and magical prowess are a mystery that appears to be something the author will reveal with time throughout the series.
Also atypical to the urban fantasy genre, there is a minimal romance sub-plot in Hide & Seek. I thought this was refreshing, and it ensured the spiraling mystery, world-building, and character development were stars of the show. Martin does an excellent job of making the story meaty without any filler, once again proving the series has been plotted out so that each novel will boost the depth of story and character in the books to come. There are some refreshingly dark parts that Martin handles well, leading the morally grey areas to create a believable tale and impart some reality to the urban fantasy world.
What happens moving forward is intriguing, and Martin has created a fierce female lead that will draw in fans and keep them engaged and wanting more.
This is a great story with wonderful characters and entertaining plot points. I had a blast with Lex, and I am waiting eagerly for the next installment!
5 ⭐️s= Perfect story, exciting, engrossing, well developed complex characters, solid plot with few to no holes, descriptive environments and place settings, great mystery elements, realistic dialogue, believable reactions and behaviors, loved this story so much I’d buy it.
4 ⭐️s= Great story, highly entertaining and enjoyable, exciting storyline, well developed characters and settings, a few discrepancies but nothing that can’t be overlooked. Believable actions and reactions, realistic dialogue, a book I would consider buying.
3 ⭐️s= Good but not great story, noticeable discrepancies, grammatical and or spelling errors, undeveloped characters or unbelievable behaviors but still readable. Nothing majorly wrong with the story, just not interesting enough for me to continue. Would not buy the book.
2 ⭐️s= Not offended by the story, but not interested enough to finish. Unbelievable characters, poor writing, many mistakes, big holes or discrepancies, many spelling or grammatical errors, characters not believable, unlikeable or TSTL.
1 ⭐️= Offensive, extremely poor writing, horrible characters, victimization, gaslighting, blatant abuse, unnecessary violence, child endangerment, or any other highly objectionable behaviors by Main characters. Would never buy this book, and do not recommend it to anyone.

This is the first book in a new Urban Fantasy Series. It is the story of Alexa or Lexy Huntley. She is a repossession agent in a world of magic users, shifters, vampires and other creatures. This world has lunar flares which cause seismic shifts in temperature and affects technology. She goes on a regular repo visit and runs into witches doing black magic using a shifter. She helps free the shifter but ends up investigating the coven and finds she may have bitten off more than she can chew.
This was a very well written book - I liked the author's style, appreciated correct grammar and an engaging way of writing. The story was well conceived and internally consistent. There was a lot that was a mystery, including Lexy’s lineage and powersand clearly the author has a detailed plan in mind. Many of these mysteries seem to be slowly unfolding. . The story was absorbing and enjoyable without the feeling that there were fillers.. There were similarities to Ilona Andrew’s Kate Daniels series - the heroine and world reminded me of that series - but a lot of differences too. It was light on the romance (if that matters to you). I really enjoyed reading it and look forward to the next installment. I just hope Declan doesn’t end up being the love interest because I wasn’t fond of what he did in this story. I highly recommend this.

Hide & seek - a Dark Urban Fantasy. I don't know what it is about Australia and Urban Fantasy authors but they master it. This book is phenomenal. The author mixes mythology/ folklore and this world wonderfully. The characters are just moonbeams and the darkest shadows. I loved them. I loved her writing style. If you enjoy Keri Arthur or Faith Hunter you're going to love Simone Martin. I am so bummed out that this book is over and I can't wait for the next one!!! Lex Huntley is a repossession agent (she takes back illicit stolen magical items), her partner is an ex-police officer that doesn't like to see or believe in the vast magical communities surrounding them. There are vampires, witches, demons, ghosts, a Green Man, the stag.... okay so there is just about everything in this perfectly created world. Lex is a mystery herself, treading lightly in the grey, she hides her secrets and pushes the line to achieve the things she sees as important. She's good on the whole, though. Brave and daring. The latest case she's on lands her in deep water and her life is changing fast. Making new acquaintances and powerful enemies. There is war on the horizon and the players are taking sides. Amazing author. Fantastic characters. Enthralling story. I received this ARC from Booksirens. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I loathe when authors Michael Crichton explain every detail of their world, whether it’s in long expositions or backstory conversations. Martin just drops us into her world and lets us figure it out. And, for the most part, we do. The parts we don’t, well, we’re not supposed to yet. And I’m fine with that.
The MC navigates several seemingly disparate mysteries that coalesce into an incredible denouement. And the twists at the end have me salivating for the next book.
I loved the writing style and the story. I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because the supposed love interest and the main character had so little chemistry. I found myself on Team-Anybody-But-Him (a bit of an exaggeration since I’m especially fond of one).
I’m hoping (expecting) that rest doesn’t veer off into RH land. Choice brings drama, angst, and fan-fic. Getting everything you want doesn’t.
Lex Huntley works as a repo agent in Sun City, and there is something sinister happening in her city. During a routine raid of a witch coven to retrieve a powerful amulet, she finds that these witches are not only using magic they shouldn’t be able to access, they have kidnapped a powerful alpha wolf shifter and are draining his power. Unfortunately, rescuing the alpha will draw the attention of powerful beings from the Underworld that want to shift the balance of power. Wow, I loved this book! Magic, shifters, witches, vampires, mythological beings, exciting action, and surprising twists in the plot. If you are a fan of urban fantasy, I think this is a must read. All of these characters are well written, and unique. I particularly liked Lex. She’s smart, strong, sassy, and determined to do anything necessary to save the world.

Slow to start, but worth it. The premise for this is good, or good enough to hook but to be honest the beginning of the book nearly stalled me enough to give up. But just as I was debating that, it got so much better and pushed itself from a two start to four star book.
It's got great characters, and Alexa as a character comes together at about the point I describe above - basically the first section could use an edit to tighten and strengthen the story and hook the readers to the characters better.
That said, once it got going, I finished it quickly and am definitely interested in the next book. I liked the mystery, I liked the history, and I'm curious about the ongoing story arc.
Kudos where it's due for the nature of connection and relationships and the 'almost could have been' handled really well - it's refreshing to see this instead of a by-the-numbers romance for a change.

When a routine job turns into something much more complicated, our heroine has to make some quick decisions. The initial one is easy, but it gets much more complicated from there.
This is book one of the series, so a good place to start.
This is an urban fantasy story. The story is well written and easy to read. Both the setting and the characters are well developed, creating a rich background upon which the story unfolds. I loved all the details that were put into the story and watching our heroine work to overcome the challenges thrown in her path. I love heroines that are tough and smart and this one definitely fits that description. Overall, this was a fast paced and engaging story that definitely left me looking for the next book.
Highly recommended.

🌶 None
📖 AWESOME
I really enjoyed this book, the pacing was great, the world and character building awesome.
The MC is just like any other human just trying to live their life if they also happen to know werewolves, vampires, witches, guardians, dragons and other things that go boo in the night.
Not an overly emotional book. Just a great read. I liked that I could get lost in a world without having to remember who was who, who was related to who or who did what. It was a nice break from having to do homework just to read 😅
I really enjoyed this story. Introduced to the main character Lex who works a cool job while hiding parts of herself in a word with magic. It basically has a paranormal slash mystery vibe going that kept me hooked to the end. Cool and annoying characters are introduced that move the story along and made me both like and hated them. Besides a single story this first book introduces a series story arch that will keep me reading. Liked the action, craziness, mystery and characters. I like these types of stories and this one delivered well.

In a world with magic, Alexa is hiding her magic and working as a magical repo agent. On a job, she’s sent to recover an item and was drawn into a magical mess verging on war.
This was a fun story- the world was well developed and the plot was fun. The romance was interesting, and the pace was well maintained. I’m holding out hope that this series continues to keep a good pace, and moves the ongoing plot along without taking too long for the next installment.
This book was so good! It opened up a new world. I hope this is book 1 of many books in this epic story! There are witches, warlocks , werewolves, Fae , Priestesses , hybrids and things that I had never read about in this book! The author created an amazing quirky main character and all the secondary characters were also well developed . When I finished this book , I still had questions and I want to know what happens next!
Want book 2 now please!

This was a unique story by a new-to-me author and I really enjoyed the reading ride. The main character, Lex, was tough and so interesting. The side characters were well developed so I really got into everything about the people in here, not to mention the host of supernatural peeps. There are all sorts and definitely some new ones for me ;) This is listed as a romance but it's more of an urban fantasy. It's packed with mystery, action, drama and massive twists. This book does end but there are unanswered questions that will likely unfold in the next books. Good fun!
The stakes are high in the repossession business. When you add in unrequited love, deamons and goddesses at war, and being indebted to a dragon; the whole world can turn upside down. Lex is just trying to get through day by day, she never wanted to get caught up in the mess that's waiting for her. This book is a good read, From the first page to the last, you'll be gripping the arms of your seat. If intrigue is your thing, this is definitely the book for you.
I absolutely loved Hide and Seek it was like walking back into a familiar world captivating me right away. I love Lex and her strength despite having most of her powers warded. She is powerful and fierce and I can hardly wait for the next book! I can’t wait to find out the extent of her true powers and her duel nature to be explored. I desperately want to know what her Aunts have kept hidden for so long I absolutely highly recommend the book and I definitely will be reading more from this author.
An interesting paranormal mystery thriller with well developed characters. Hide and Seek by Simone Martin has something for everyone such as dragons, goddesses, demons, witches, werewolves, or warlocks to keep you interested. A fast paced urban mystery that will be a great read for anyone that loves to read about myths. I loved reading Hide and Seek and plan on reading Rattle and Roll to see what happens next with Lex. This is a Supernatural Action Novel. It can be read as either a Stand Alone or as a first book in a new series. The novel is well crafted with characters the readers will love.

I love Simone’s writing she creates a believable world in each series with in depth characters with flaws and all. This book is so far my favourite, there was a nice helping of darkness that added to the story and the situations that the characters were in were amazing.
This is full of mystery and interesting things happening and my only regret is that I dont have the completed series already. Put aside the weekend you know you deserve it.
The blurb doesn't really do this book the full justice it deserves! This has been such a good read and I definitely feel a little disappointed I've finished it - Love Lex's world!. I absolutely love the marriage of mystery thriller, paranormal and myth. Simone has written something very special here and I'm eager to see how things progress in this series.

This was a great story. The way the author describes magic and how it affects and feels to Alexis was really well done. The characters had chemistry and I really loved the the three aunts. The plot is interesting and exciting and I can't wait to find out where it leads. The only little annoyance I had was the repeated use of a certain exclamation Alexis uses. I just found it strange to read each time.

This is such a good urban fantasy paranormal read! Well written we meet Lex Huntley one of the best Repo Agents in the city. She strong, she’s sassy and she totally kicks ass until she gets taken by surprise and thrown into a situation not of her making! Witches, warlocks, shifters, magic, this exciting and thrilling storyline grabs you from the get go and With incredible world building and twists and turns you will not want this to end!
Read as an ARC and I LOVE this story already. I can't wait for the next one. Invested in finding out what Lex is, and her journey through the upcoming battle. No shortage of magic in this book. It's a fun read. I didn't want to put it down. The first couple of chapters did take me a second to get into, but it wasn't hard to invest in after that. Be prepared for the end of this book. It's going to have you laugh at Just Lex's Luck when it comes to magical jewelry ;)

I cannot say enough good things about this book. I'm a big fan of urban fantasy and this book is definitely one of my favorites.
There is a great mix of lore and wonderful world-building. The characters are interesting and there is enough suspense to keep me hooked. I will be on the lookout for the sequel.
I enjoyed this first book in the series and want to read the next, which I hope answers a few more questions. The characters and use of mythology are interesting and it’s nice to see a strong woman protagonist. A little more background earlier on might have helped as I did feel a little lost in understanding this world.
