Minor spoilers included below.

It is rare these days that I write a review because I’ve been overwhelmingly busy at work and have been for quite a long time. However, when a story sticks out to me as either very good or very bad, I will take my time to write a review. For me this is one of those very good stories.

Neither the hero nor the heroine were cookie cutter characters and that helped keep my interest. I read it in one sitting I was never bored.

The heroine was autistic and the hero was a lying, drug and alcohol addicted killer. Both of them were faithful to each other, which is always important to me. I was concerned that because the hero was an addict that would help loosen his inhibitions and he would sleep with other people after meeting the heroine. However, that didn’t happen. He was with no other woman in this book and the heroine was a virgin.

There were sexy times in this story which is always something I want included in a romance book.

I liked that the hero was very protective of the heroine. Was he jealous? Not really, and given that I love jealous and possessive heroes I wanted him to be.

Did I like it that the hero was a drug addict addicted killer? Definitely not. An addict hero or heroine is a turn off for me given some of my relatives are addicts and therefore not something I want to read about.

Was this book always realistic? Definitely not but for the ending I didn’t want it to be. I need a HEA happily ending in the romance books I read and so I was fine with the very unlikely ending.

A Captivating Dark Romance

Love in Dangerous Doses is a mesmerizing dark romance that explores the unlikely connection between Emma Reed, a shy and autistic entomology student, and Vance Michaels, a troubled bad boy with a dangerous side job. The author skillfully portrays Emma's autism, providing an authentic and sensitive representation. The chemistry between the characters is electric, and their journey of self-discovery and redemption is both empowering and inspiring. With captivating writing and a perfect balance of suspense and introspection, this book is a must-read for fans of dark romance.

I really liked this! it is third person which is a bummer but i still enjoyed it. some of the language used during spicy scenes was a bit cringe but i also kind of think that may have been the point bc it was Emma’s thoughts

i would’ve loved to see Vance get a handle on his vices sooner and maybe see him going through rehab and how that effected Emma but overall I really liked this

-opposite attract
-autistic, touch adverse FMC
-virgin FMC
-good girl x bad boy
-slow burn
-addict MMC

Fantastic

I finished this story in a day. It's absolutely everything you want in a romantic suspense. This bad boy, good girl trope really worked and I locked Emma's personality. I shared so many features she did, it was fascinating.

Unconventional

This dark romance is unique and good. I loved the characters. Vance is an addict and killer. Emma is a bug enthusiast, autistic good girl. Together they compliment each other and allow the reader a wild ride.

Not a fan of the overall plot or tropes. However, I did like the accurate autism representation

Compelling

An autistic fmc and a bad boy - a well written combo with a great portrayal of the lived autistic experience.

Despite seeming to have plot but also not have plot at the same time until like the end it was very good.

This is such an unlikely pairing. The mfc is autistic and hates being touched. The mmc once over an autistic girl has a deep fondness for the mfc. He protects and as they get closer a relationship builds.

I really like this book and would recommend it to anyone who likes unconventional relationships.

worth the read

Ignore the cheesy cover…this is a good, deep story and I feel weird saying this, but I really appreciated the h’s autistic POV. While it got frustrating at times (so much crying!!!), I hoped and needed to learn more about autism. I also always appreciate a non-perfect hero or heroine.

The author describes the H as not a good person. He totally is. I didn’t understand his interest or patience with the h, but he’s not as dark as the author portrays, IMHO.

There is some awkward writing and things that don’t line up (“loins” and “phallus” are not sexy terms), but otherwise an enjoyable read that also featured a perspective rarely covered in the romance genre (autism). It’s worth it for that reason alone.

Good read!

This was my first read from this author. This book was a different kind of read for me, but also a good one. I related the the anxiety part the most and felt for Emma during all of those tough times. I wasn’t sure what to think about Vance from the beginning but he slowly one me over. This story definitely takes you on an emotional ride, dealing with many heavy topics. I would check your warning before reading, but I enjoyed it.
