The only way I know how to describe this read is to think Alice in Wonderland, the horror version. Where the White Rabbits are hunted for sport in a nightmare landscape full of murderous creatures. Did I absolutely love this book? Yes I did. I want a book two, that is how much I loved it. The ending is fabulous, but leaves a lot unanswered. Hence, why I am calling for another book!

This book was absolutely brilliant. 7 people wake up dressed as rabbits. No memory of anything , including who they are. Run rabbit run. Down the rabbit hole…. we go. This book brought back not only one of my favorite fairytales but combined it with my favorite genre of horror. Allison ingeniously brought these characters to life in this unusual novel. I highly recommend getting lost in this wild tale. 🐰🩸

This book is brilliant! Bloody and savage.. but brilliant! There are twists and turns, gory battles, awesome characters and an ending that blew my mind! I just loved everything about this book, it was so damn good! And totally original, especially with it's Alice in Wonderland connections. A really smart, twisted novel! 5/5 rabbit skulls 💀

Wow. Wasn’t expecting that! I absolutely loved the storyline. From the get-go I cared about the characters and was anxious to see what happened! I loved the twists and turns throughout. Could easily see this being made into a film! The story itself is brilliant! This is a first I’ve read from this author and it won’t be my last!

I truly hate to tear down an artists work but this is easily the worst book I've ever read. When I saw that this author has over 30 books to his name I was astounded. How could this one have turned out so awful? The other two astonishing things are that I finished the entire book and that it actually has high reviews.

So let me start by saying that the story idea isn't terrible. A violent, gory twist on Alice in Wonderland was intriguing. It has a neat little plot twist at the end but unfortunately you kind of see it coming. That's where all the positive things I can say ends.

The grammar in this book is absolutely ATROCIOUS! The wrong form of "to" is used several times, it's filled with run on sentences, words are either left out or added in to make the the sentence confusing, and the guy only has about five descriptive words to choose from. Seriously, if you made a drinking game out of taking a shot every time you read the words "grim," "grimaced/grimacing." "cursed," "the black man," or "the effeminate man" you'd be drunk within the first fifty pages and certainly dead from alcohol poisoning by the end of the book. Somebody please give this guy a Thesaurus! And a better editor!!

And speaking of the black man and the effeminate man.....Both of those characters have names. Why he doesn't use them more often??! We get it, one guy is black and one guy looks like a girl. USE..THE..NAMES..YOU..GAVE..THEM. Sadly, I paid money for this travesty but even if you can find it for free I don't recommend this book at all.

It's gonna be difficult to rate this one...

First of all, I HAVE TO mention the many mistakes we encounter all along, be them grammatical or else. Even I, with my poor English skills, got annoyed by them as they frequently put a stop in my reading.

Second of all, the plots and multiple twists are overly simple to guess and I've never been surprised by the story. Not even once. Which is quite a bit odd since the book is intended to resemble to Alice in Wonderland which is everything but easy to guess and understand!

Last of all, the story is somewhat entertaining but definitely not worths loads of praise. And the author himself disdains the quality of his own book during the narration. I won't spoil but here's the end of the citation I'm talking about : "It sounds like some badly written novel".

Yeah, it does.

Motivation for reading - I wanted to read something fast paced for beach week this year and this one fit the bill. The Trouble with Rabbits was a warped and gory version of Alice in Wonderland and is full of references to Lewis Carroll’s original. The protagonists wake up In rabbit suits in a place far from home knowing only that their lives are in danger and not much else. Then things get worse. There’s a good balance between killings on and off screen with a wide mixture of horrors confronting the main characters. My only complaint is that the book could have used a good editor since there were spelling and grammatical errors throughout and I had to read a few sentences multiple times to try to figure out what the author was saying. Nonetheless, I look forward to reading more from the same author

How many times can the words 'Grimiced' 'Grimicing' 'Grim' be repeated on the same page and throughout the whole book?! Come on Kelvin, surely after writing 30 books you would have a decent editor?!

Some of sentences didn't make any sense and I had to read them a couple of times to work out what you meant. There were spelling mistakes throughout too..

Anyway the story was good with an abrupt ending and a small twist. Maybe Kelvin ran out of imagination, I don't know.

I won't be reading anymore books from this author because I cannot bear to see those words being repeated again and bad spellings just puts me right off any book.

Incredible story

I absolutely loved this story but it definitely needs to be reviewed by an editor. The author confused taught and taut, emit and omit, of and off, I could go on all day. But the story itself was absolutely brilliant.

twists and turns

Like the original Alice in Wonderland it’ll have you questioning what’s real. So many twists and turns I didn’t see coming.

This book, I mean what can I say about it, besides it was incredible and written wonderfully !! Being a fan of Alice in Wonderland and a fan of all things horror/sinister, this book was a great combination of the both!!! Highly recommend !!

Alice in Wonderland retelling with a horror twist. The fantasy elements were a little too much for me although I did enjoy the story and horror elements. I felt a slight disconnect from the story, some elements felt rushed and a few basic spelling and grammar errors were a little distracting. A good story but would have been a four star with a bit of tightening up with the story and editing.

What can I say, I went down the rabbit hole on this one….

Part fable, part mystery, part horror and part thriller with a healthy nod to a revered work of classic literature - it really shouldn’t make sense, but it does, and I really enjoyed the journey.

The premise was well laid out, the characters were vibrantly clever and the world that both of these inhabit is one twisted flight of fancy.

I had a lot of fun reading this one; I look forward to adding more of this authors work on to my wishlist.

I'm a bit torn on this one, on one hand, I liked the creativity of the story and the setting was very interesting. On the other hand, it could have benefited from another editing pass: many typos, lack of variety in word choices, repetition etc.

Funny enough one of the big reveal, , was somehow enhanced by the poor editing of the book. If you catch it early on, of the main character is revealed quite early when someone says something like . But the rest of the book is so keen on making you question this, that I assumed it was a typo, making the final few pages a little bit more surprising.

The beginning of the story drags on a little bit and could have been shortened and I feel that some of the plot points could have also been more interesting through subversion. For example, the I liked the world building and would have loved to learn more about the forest and the sea. I feel some of the plot points were a bit repetitive such as . As mentioned in other reviews, the walking between the different locations were realistic but could have been trimmed to make the action more snappy.

The introduction of the main cast of characters was creative but the way the author insisted on using different description for each of them even after was rather annoying.

There are a million rewriting of Alice in Wonderland and this one is quite unique and manages to make the story different, albeit not always successfully.

Grim would’ve been a better title

I actually really enjoyed the premise for this book. It was not what I was expecting it to be, but nevertheless, it was an interesting and imaginative take on Alice in Wonderland, filled with creepy cannibals, insane characters, and good mix of blood and gore. While I figured out a lot of the plot, there was still one missing piece that was a good little twist for me at the end.

This book could’ve easily been four or five stars. My problem was with the writing and editing. The author clearly enjoyed the word Grim (and all forms including grimly, grimacing, grimaced, etc…). I wish of the 264 references to this word he would’ve changed it up a bit. The sentence structure also drove me a bit crazy… now I did take into account that this is an English author and I’m an American reader so sometimes phrases sound a little off to me; however, I’ve read books from other English authors and the writing was much smoother. I just feel this book needed to be edited a few more times - tighten up the sentences, clean up the structure, add some commas, fix the mistake words and phrases, and remove or change the repetitive words. I think the book could’ve probably been 40 pages shorter with the proper edits. English was never my best subject, so my critique is solely based on my own ease of reading.

All that being said, I kept reading because the story was so interesting! I couldn’t put it down, even though I rolled my eyes every time the word grim was used, again and again. I very much enjoyed the story and how it ended.

Instead of leaving a review here, I'm going to leave a small piece of advice for the Author.

In my opinion, this is at least a 4 star Novel. The reason why I'm only giving it 4 stars is because this Author has the creative mind and imagination that if he keeps improving then this will just be a rare gem from the beginning of his career. I fully expect big things from Kelvin V.A. Allison over the course of his career.

With that being said, however, I had to deduct one star and you are doing yourself a huge disservice by not using a more professional Editor to help polish up this Novel. There are enough grammar errors here that it's like hitting dozens of speed bumps over and over throughout the duration of this Novel that I sometimes became dizzy trying to figure out exactly what he was trying to say during certain passages. And even though I see a ton of promise in his work, I can't recommend this Novel in good faith until the required work is invested in making the prose easier to read.

I happen to be a fan of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and the sequel Through the Looking Glass. So much so that Jabberwocky is my favourite poem, one that I could recite from memory before my brain became overloaded with the humdrum duties of day-to-day life and old age.
I’m a sucker for things that cross over into the fable created by Charles Dodgson AKA Lewis Carroll. Upon discovering The Trouble With Rabbits and how it delves into Wonderland and what aided its creation, I was sold. Before I knew Kelvin or read any of his work, this title called to me, and the book went straight on my list.

Just one element of the plot would be enough to draw me in - waking up with no memory of who you are and dressed in a rabbit costume - you know there is going to be trouble. Either that, or you had a very serious drinking session with your local furry group the night before.
When you have the other element of waking up in a world that inspired Alice in Wonderland. Putting those two things together is genius.

The story is told from the point of view of one of those confused rabbits as they find they are not the only person in the same predicament.
Whilst they - and the reader - are trying to get a sense of the other character's personalities and discover where they fit into the scheme of things, they start to get some insight into who they are. This is made even more intriguing by the discovery that some of them may not be the nicest of people. Now, I do not want to give anything away, but say, for example, they were to find a list that mentioned one of you liked listening to Ed Sheeran. You would know there was a person with no musical taste, but you wouldn’t know who it was. Worse, it could be you.

Usually, with the volume of new books I read, I don’t often revisit titles I’ve already finished, but I know The Trouble with Rabbits will be an exception because I can’t wait to pick it up once more and tumble back through the looking glass.

If Kelvin ever writes a sequel and allows us to journey into his version of Wonderland once again, then stuff me into a rabbit costume, call me Buckthorn Cottontail and count me in for another riveting and bloody adventure.

2.5/5

I'm splitting this right down the middle with a 2.5/5. Really fun premise, especially the 'waking up in a rabbit costume with no memory' opening. We get some great set pieces and the lore that's re-told/re-vamped with Alice in Wonderland was engaging. I suspected the big 'twist' very early on, which was the main reason I stuck with this until the very end.

Saying that, and noted in a number of other reviews, this one really needs a re-edit. The dialogue comes off so robotic time and time again eg "We go and do it." "Yes let us go and do it." Chunky and clunky. As well, we get repetitive adjective usage over and above what'll annoy folks. There's only so many times a character can frown, be frowning or frowned within two or three sentences. That's just one example. I hate to even point it out, but in a 500 page book, this will make many folks tap out really early.

Kelvin has a phenomenal imagination, but I think this one is held back by the lack of a fine-toothed edit - both overall and line - which would really make this one shine.

When you take the acid trip that is Alice in Wonderland and thrown in a dash of PCP and a whole lot of Ted Bundy, you'll get The Trouble With Rabbits. The story was very well written and took a well established world and cast of characters and turned them into pure nightmare fuel. The characters were thought out and came to life on the page, and I found myself hanging on each word as they faced the brutality of this twisted land. Just when I thought I had everything figured out things swerved right up to the shocking finale. This was a fantastic introduction to this author, and I'm excited to read more.

Loved this one. Set in the Alice in Wonderland world, its very imaginative and solid story telling. I wish the editing would've been a little better, but that doesn't take away from the actual story so I'm still able to give 5 stars.
Imagine waking up in a cell glued into a rabbit suit! Then to realize you are being hunted by all kinds of crazy characters. In the land of 2 suns, buildings that are bigger on the inside than the outside, stairs you climb to get in but then have to climb to get out, things don't always make sense.. but that's Wonderland! I never saw the ending coming, I had to think about that one!

I've just finished reading The Trouble with Rabbits by Kelvin V A Allison . It's a weird and wonderful tale, from the very beginning your totally gripped, in fear for those who are involved. The Characters are ... well I won't give anything away. This book is a myriad of emotions, with just the right amount of horror too. Beautifully written by an incredible mind, if your a fan of Alice in Wonderland, this is the book for you...eat me, drink me... please read this book.... If you don't, you'll wish you had !

Creative, inventive twist on Alice in Wonderland steeped in an ooey-gooey fantasy world full of gore -- yay! But the issue... the Rabbits forgot to employ an EDITOR. The plot kept my interest to the finish, and the plot is the only reason this read is getting stars from me at all. Fix the run-on sentences, add proper punctuation and paragraphs, trim down the travel narratives, correct the endless grammar errors. These overlooked details make what could have easily been a 4+ star novel clumsy and completely amateur. How unfortunate.

the trouble with rabbits is you can’t trust them!

I really liked this retelling of Alice in Wonderland…with a lot of added gore, but Wonderland is always a scary place, right? I was trying to guess what would happen next right up until the very end, but I never got it right! I felt like the end was a bit rushed but other than that, this was a fun yet unsettling read. Much like Alice was to begin with.

A totally unique, and wonderfully gruesome version of the classic Alice In Wonderland story. Lots of twists, thrills, and gore, within this intriguing tale. Keeps you guessing til the end! A solid ending, but not sure I liked the way it turned out. A lot of grammatical errors made it a bit irritating at times, but definitely worth a read if you're looking for something different in the horror genre!

Everyone knows the story, Alice and the Adventures of Wonderland.

But how did the author, Lewis Carroll come up with this story? Lewis Carroll, Oliver Queenheart and some other colleagues find another dimension. A place where they do not age and time is different. When they bring individuals to this land dressed in bunny suites to be hunted.

This is a crazy story with twists and turns throughout. Kelvin V.A Allison author of 12 and Ghoul, writes a story that ties into the famous story by Lewis Carroll. This is a page turner you can’t put down.

Wow!! Beautifully written! Had me hooked from the beginning and all throughout. A gory, horror version that mirrors (no pun intended) Alice in wonderland. I have never fallen In love with a novel like I have with this one. This would be amazing turned into a TV series!!

AND THAT ENDING THOUGH!! Not what I expected at all!!

I'm a bit speechless about this book. I honestly can't describe how incredible I thought it was. Nothing repetitive. Nothing too predictable. And it gave me a whole new love of the whole Alice in wonderland mythos. And it gave me some serious Stephen King's "talisman" vibes, to boot. I only wish I could give it more than five stars!
