Luxion

My Thoughts:

Another middle chapter of a bigger book. So, just like the last book, it is therefore not meant to be read alone. Need to read the previous books to understand what is going on in the plot.

This book picks up from the last book's cliffhanger ending, and the story continues. Ten had been doing very well in the last two books then all of a sudden she got stupid! They are in the thick of fighting so she just stood around being a drama queen and watch her friends die all around her... WTF?!

The cover arts in this series so far is not really apropos to the story because Luxion is still a hatchling and not yet grown enough for Ten to ride him on a flight as depicted on the cover.

Quantitative Evaluation:

Story telling quality = 3.5
Character development = 3.5
Story itself = 4
Writing Style = 4
Ending = 3
World building = 5
Cover art = 3
Pace = 3.5
Plot = 2

Overall Rating: 3.5 out of 5

fascinating

Tennegan is surprising as the new dragon rider and certainly the most controversial. Controversial, since Tennegan was an errand runner and a working class servant, and NO working class has ever managed to elevate themselves to a dragon rider class. None.

Ten, as Tennegan is called, certainly throws the status quo out the window and the Old Guard into a rage and an epic battle ensues, through no fault of her own, other than following her childhood dream of being a dragon rider. The divide is clear wealthy Noble family, freeman class and servant class. No other in between.

Now, with her sponsor and her dragon Luxion by her side, Ten is learning the harsh realities and some of the consequences of following that dream and the costs too, particularly when the nobles don’t want her to teach other servants to reach for theirs.

Even worse, Ten has befriended the Maiden of Lux after rescuing her which is an outrage and unprecedented - even worse’s, protected her from assassins and earned her friendship. So the old guard are practically frothing at the mouth with fury are their friendship, and worse, Ten is at last granted the final tests to become official Dragon Guard - can’t wait to see what is next.

Fabulous novel, great writing, warm engaging characters and an absolutely worthwhile read

This book includes even darker content than the previous two. I wouldn't say the whole thing is dark, but there are moments that definitely are. And it is worth, as a reader, being aware that such things are coming, if you need to be warned ahead of time. This corrupt society/existence doesn't like to be challenged, and this book makes that even clearer than the previous two have. But you always still have that breath of hope over the top of it, that you think will eventually flare up to something more full-bodied than a simple breath. But you don't know how much darkness you'll have to traverse, as the reader, before you can get there.

After 3 books, with not a single one ending in a happy place, I feel like I am going to approach them in less of a rush. I am starting to feel weighed down a little bit by the... dark side of this world that keeps making prominent appearances in these books. This one was still as good as the previous ones, but I won't be going through them as fast anymore, I think. But at least at the end of this one, there was some well-earned resolve obtained.

Very much like our world today !

There is darkness when people seek self-promotion and power over everyone.

Some feel everyone are below them and totally above the law ! They attempt to manipulate everything for their own purposes and will justify it at all cost !

We see what a travesty of justice it causes to the many !

Ten is hard pressed in her life because she want to see the light of goodness, but the darkness keeps showing up because people tend to display what is in their heart !

Ten desires the goodness in life for all, but some refuse to let others bring the light of needed change upon their world !

Still a teenager yet realizes she must make a difference for everyone to benefit.

It is very well written, and the characters are m, and we're seeing it in some governments

Even sequestered away the evil that hides in Epoch Sol searches and finds Ten. “Ten has learned some harsh lessons, chief among them is the fact that the city she loves is far from a bastion of good. In fact, a darkness has started to reveal itself. One that includes assassinations and oppression. Can she change things or is she destined to be blotted out by the darkness like so many before her?”

But she's a servant, but not anymore. Now it's up to her. As she notes: “Epoch Sol has to change.” There was too much hate, too much plotting. Somehow, they’d all lost the path that the Lux wanted them to be on. “And I’m going to make it.”

That's a commitment without knowing the consequences. She does have the Maiden on her side, and a group of friends that have her back - always.

Still enjoying this series.

There are so many parallels between this fiction and today’s world! Things I see and observe every day. As we grow up, many of the fairytales we believed are shattered by reality and the cruelty of others. Bullies, liars, selfishness, etc. begin to lift the vail we’ve been behind and we must choose to give in to the anger or work to change the world. Seeing reality really sucks sometimes but having the courage to go out everyday and do what you can to help lift others up and make their day a little better. Being a Dragon Rider would be so awesome! I’d be just like Ten!

action packed

Ive just finished the 3rd book in this series, and it only gets better and better, the characters are likeable and you care what happens to them. They are young adults fighting the unfair way of life at great risk to them selves. The dragons grow up with them and are full characters like their chosen riders, can't wait to see what happens next. This series is for young adults, but I am an old adult and I'm fully enjoying it, it's not patronising at all in its details with life and death. Give it ago you will surprise yourself with how much you enjoy it.

Darkness in the Light

I have just finished the second book in the series.I am completely in love with Ten and her dragon and all the friends and family who surround her. The characters are so believable and her adventures are never ending and exciting that I can’t wait to read the next instalment. I haven’t felt like this about a series for years ( which is quite a long time given that I’m in my eighties and yes people my age do enjoy books about young people and fantasy! ) I wish all the readers of this series Good Reading.

the Plot Thickens

Initially I was not impressed with this series as the theme has been done many times; servant/downtrodden youth bonds with a dragon, starts training to be a rider, has multiple challenges and bravely powers through. However, the story became intriguing after introducing new characters and a sense of an unfolding great destiny. Now I am very invested in seeing this story through and intend to read all the books.

Book 3

Book 3 has errors throughout and the MC is still naive in her thinking. She introduces the maiden to her friends and the council has pushed her final assessment again. She understands it's so she never becomes a rider and tries to see it as a training longer will help. Again, the MC does not live up to her potential and digresses as the story goes forward.

the story keeps growing!

Impressive to be three books in with so little dragon action but yet the story has me hooked! The dragons definitely play a role but as the story expands it becomes more political. I really like Ten and Mina together and look forward to seeing them kick ass together

Good series

Well written. Young girl facing challenges in moving upward in static society to become a dragon guard and the haters of people facing unwanted change. She is also confronted by what she believes her world is and the reality of how it actually works. Something we all face.

Each book has ended by drawing me into the next one. The character are well written, the emotions are strong, and the story line is solid, if a bit inevitable

Getting darker and building steam

This book is definitely showing the author hitting their stride.
Following the trend from the previous two books the story is easy to read. But the author is starting to take things deeper and darker in tone and challenges for the characters.

Better and better

The story just gets better and better. I was expecting a light young teen type read, but it is a bit more complex than that without being too adult.

An enjoyable read, but not as fantastic as the first two. Finn. I’ll miss reading about him. Mina is not one of my favorite characters, but I still really like Ten. What a fascinating character.
