Lei Guthrie and her best friend, Iris, have a tradition. Every Friday night after work, they play a game—preferably vintage, the weirder the better. So when Lei finds a romance novel trivia game rumored to be cursed, she couldn’t be happier. Until she and Iris become trapped in the game. The rules are simple. Make it through three romance novel scenes gone horribly wrong and retrieve a silver key from each. Oh yeah, and stay alive.

Update 27.06 Y’all, don’t hold me to this but I messaged the author asking if she had any plans of writing a second book and make it a series and she said “I didn’t but you talked me into it”. I’m ecstatic. Cannot. Freaking. Wait.
------------
No. No. NO. Why did this have to end. The author did us so dirty. This is the first book where I've been reading and watching the book grow closer and closer to finish, and I'm waiting for all these things to happen, but it didn't. I am left out here wanting and needing more. Dear Author, you better either bring out a book 2 as part of a series or come out saying this was a teaser and the actual book is longer.
Glitched is about 2 best friends - Lei and Iris - who play games regularly and upon purchasing a new game, Méchant, they suddenly get trapped in the game.
(Also I was full on screaming at Lei when she purchased Méchant and the guy told her the locals thought it was haunted. Girl, we don't fuck that that shit, but you do you.)
I am craving a romance from the crypt keeper and there's so many things left to our imagination, please please please give us more of a story. I will literally get on my knee's and beg.
100% recommend but be prepared for a brutal ending, because that's exactly how I would describe it; bru-fucking-tal.
Ohmygosh this book was sooo good. I love the interactive game with a touch of horror and the ending wow. so well written, the only thing that I was upset with this book was that it was not longer. hopefully the author will make this into a fun series.
Thank you to the publisher and Boksiren for getting me an advanced copy of this book, all the views and opinions are my own and honest ones.
I thought this was such a clever premise - a mysterious cursed board game, two girls, forced to act out romance novel scenes for their lives. At first glance, one would think: What's the harm? Isn't it fun, getting to live out your romance novel heroine dreams? But it cleverly subverts this, turning it into a horror where our MC Lei is transformed into a final girl. It's short - maybe some might say too short, but I found it a good length - and wraps up well with a cliffhanger-but-not-really (because of what happens in Chapter 1) that I really liked. The actual scenes involving playing the game could maybe have been a bit better, because I found them slightly confusing, but other than that, it's a very intriguing story with a very intriguing premise and clever use of subversion.

"Ladies," the crypt keeper said, drawing their attention to where he stood, one booted foot now propped on the base of a headstone, "welcome to the game." Excerpt From Glitched - JC Doan This material may be protected by copyright.
Two friends playing a cursed board game, what could go wrong!? I love this story. It was short, filled with unexpected surprises and I wish there was more! If you need something short and fun to read to get your out of a reading slump this is definitely it.
I do with the story was longer and there was more worldbuilding/details on how the girls are playing the game. I really do wish the Author sees all these reviews of us suggesting/hoping to get more and does just that.
I did get this book from J.C. Doan and Booksirens as an ARC, these are my honest opinions.
3.5/5 A very short novella. It was surprising. I do wish that it was longer so there could have been more details and a longer progression.
The idea of a game night every Friday night is fun and exciting. After finding an old and dusty game, two best friends play it and get trapped inside. I thought it was a funny and fast paced thriller.
“Yeah? Is there a tall, dark, handsome stranger in your future?” she asked as they took their seats at the kitchen table.
“Not unless he’s the Grim Reaper.”

The story builds up slowly until Lei and Iris are ready to play an unknown game. The game would be cursed but they don't believe in that until.......they're unexpectedly, both ladies are caught in the game.
Everything was well constructed, exciting and completely unexpected. Also the end.
Although I didn't understand this one :-(.

This one had me on the edge of my seat! A fast paced and action packed plot with plenty of tension and a wholesome sisterhood relationship dynamic. As always with this author, it's easy to lose track of reality as you read the immersive descriptions. Very hard to put down, I really hope there's a sequel!
Glitched by JC Doan is a good, and enjoyable read. The story has a good story line, and well written read. The characters are good, and they have good chemistry.

Well written and developed story. Interesting plot full of action twists and turns. Well developed characters. Good reality and background that adds to the story. All together an interesting read.
I knew this would be a short story based on page length, but it felt lacking and underdeveloped. Everytime I thought I would be gripped, we were thrown into a different situation without understanding the previous. I'm not sure how "romance" even played into this and felt it would be better marketed to those who enjoy straight thrillers. I was just as confused as the characters with the "romance" category seemingly thrown in.
It was a quick read, but not one I would recommend or pick up again. It felt like reading a first draft where ideas are being fleshed out versus a completed project. Very unfulfilling.

I absolutely loved this book. It was unique and different. There were only two things I didn't like. First, it wasn't long enough. I wanted more. Second, I thought it was a love story and would have loved to see that mixed into it. This book has a lot of potential. I hope there will be a sequel and I think there will be based on the ending. I'm looking forward to finding out.

This novella was not quite what I expected. It was shorter and the ending…
This book would have gotten 5 stars if it would have been more substantial and had some sub plots… a romance or introduction to more characters within the game itself, etc.
It is a brilliant concept that was not quite fulfilling in its execution! More content and it could have been a great series of books. This felt like it was a prequel or middle book, not quite a stand alone book. There was more detail and content leading up to getting the game than there was actually playing the game.
If this writer were to write more for this book or make it an actual book length series, I would definitely be in line to get a copy.

Short and spooky! I snagged this book based on the cover and it’s totally not what I was expecting! It was so much better! Love love loved/hated the ending. I need more of this story! I can’t wait to read more from this author 💖
Lei and iris are two friends who love spending their Friday nights playing weird and vintage board games! Suddenly they are trapped in a game against the crypt keeper, their only escape is to get through romance novel scenes but all is not as simple or as fun as it seems. Ended on a cliffhanger but was a good fun read.

A tad too short, but still fun
The plot: Lei and Iris have this tradition that every Friday they choose a new game to play. This particular Friday is a bit weird, but Lei still goes to the shop to look for a new game. And she does find one that catches her attention. It is supposed to be a romance novel trivia, but it comes with a warning - the game is rumored to be cursed. Will Lei and Iris dare play it?
What I didn't like:
Just one thing - the story is too short for me! I wish there were more details about the novels through which the women had to go through. There were 3 levels in the game and the heroines flew through them so fast that I didn't even have time to comprehend, which novel this was. Also, another question - were the novels used in this book real, or the author made them up? I'm not sure about this.
What I liked:
1. the story. Although short, the story is really fun. I love the idea itself - the scenes from the novels that you can travel to and see what it was like. The dark twist of staying alive to get out of the game - was the thing that keeps up the suspense.
2. the characters. I can't say much about Iris, because Lei was much of the main character here. And I liked her a lot. She is a great friend and a brave woman. The gamekeeper is creepy and annoying. I get it, it's his job to make sure no one leaves alive, but he could at least be fair about the rules.
3. the writing. The story is well-written and easy to read.
Overall opinion: I enjoyed reading this story, it is easy and fun to read, the main character is nice and relatable, and the setting is unusual and intriguing.
I would recommend this book if you want a short fun read about two friends who found themselves in an unexpected situation and how they got out of it.
I liked the concept, however, it was largely telling rather than showing, so I didn't feel really sucked into the story. I was also disappointed at times with the lack of originality, since I felt like there was so much room for cool twists and unexpected situations. First, the random old lady knowing the FMC's name is a little on the nose, especially leading into it with an ominous ellipse. Another example is in the ending note- I wish it had been a new catchphrase, rather than one from a well known horror movie. I will say, however, that I enjoyed the ambiguity at the end. The writing itself didn't wow me, but it was largely inoffensive, which at this point, is generally enough for me. As a short novella, this does read fast, but for me, it just wasn't memorable enough for me to enjoy it.

My first time reading a book by this author and let's just say I was suitably impressed. Best book is by far something else in a way that I have not for sure how to describe. You had first the BFF ladies Lei and Iris, you have a unexpected villain, you had a little mystery with a little mayhem and best of all if you like a little scary horror this book had it.
As a preference not into novela type books but this one oh my gosh I was impressed and how much the author was able to put into her story and leave me so satisfied in the end it's crazy. I will definitely check out more of her books the future.

Glitched had an intriguing plot that may have been more successful if it had been longer to allow readers to feel the setting, characters, and overall direction of the story. The description of these two best friends and how they fight for survival in this game of life or death piqued my interest. However, due to the book's short length, it fell short of my expectations. I think it would have been more enjoyable if it had more content, therefore I'm hoping for a continuation so we can learn more about the game's roots, the depth of their friendship, and how they will survive.
Thank you to Booksirens and the author for providing me with a copy in return for an honest review.
This is a quick read you can easily do in an evening - I read it during TV ad breaks and then finished it off in bed!
It's a lot of fun with a gripping and interesting plot that kind of has Jumanji vibes as these girls enter a game and need to win to get home.
It's very atmospheric and well-written, I really enjoyed it. I was hooked from the start.
I highly recommend this story if you're looking for a quick read with creepy Jumanji vibes! The game they get sucked into is meant to be romance novel based, but I swear it feels more like a horror!
This was a perfect suspenseful short story to me. I liked Lei as a character, the settings were interesting. The ending left me wanting to know more about the crypt keeper and if Lei plays the game again. This wasn’t something that was too scary or too much. It had the right amount of suspense and I liked that the levels didn’t drag. It was all very straight forward. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Somewhat interesting story about a Jumanji-like game of life and death that captures bestfriends and forces them to fight their way out through romance novel situations? It was a bit weird, too short to genuinely develop characters and plot, and didn't really hold my interest. I received an ARC but am leaving this review voluntarily.
Wow-so I thought this book would have a lil scary with its romance but alas it was just scary….
The story was more entertaining and exciting once I started reading! I definitely think the story could have been longer, elaborating on the three book scenes in the game.

So the book was actually pretty interesting and different, and overall I liked it. But it ended on a cliffhanger, and unless I missed something, I don't see anything about another book to answer the questions it left. And I really hate cliffhangers that never get answered.

3.5 Stars While I found this story to be entertaining, I would have liked to have seen a little more refining and editing to make the flow of the story just a little better.

I wasn't expecting That. It's a short, dark story, easy and quick to read. My only complaint is that it's too short. Maybe a little development wouldn't hurt, but this is good.
