This is Book 2 of the Truth Sisters Series, where we view a world post-apocalyptic event.

Women rule and men are essentially 2nd class citizens due to their lack in numbers - a very intriguing concept.

The book jumps straight into Clara as she attempts a breakout of her mother and the story literally kicks off from there....

Phil's characters are fantastic, and his way of writing really draws you in and leaves you thinking about this alternate reality.

The UK is essentially split into districts, each run by a woman who is either fair or... not so fair and the dynamics and difference between these are truly interesting to see.

If you have read Book 1, there are clearly some surprises in there, and Phil keeps you hooked, never giving everything away at once.

This is a medium paced book to me, in that it isn't slow (it wouldn't work) and it isn't too fast so with it being medium paced, you have enough breathing space to digest everything going on around you.

You can tell Phil has really thought about this alternate future and the positives and pitfalls to it, and he really plays the story up to these.

I find it particularly fascinating that he has chosen women to be the dominant side in his story and how they interact... in some instances, you would forget they are women at all given the stereotypes we are used to in the present day.

Moving onto the physical book itself, the cover to eye-catching and dramatic and feels lovely to the touch. The paper is also the perfect thickness for annotating on!

Phil draws you in from the very first page and leaves you at the end, craving for more - given the ending, I'm dying to see what happens in Book 3!

I highly recommend this book to all sci-fi lovers!

Let me start by saying that this is book 2 in a series in which I have not read book 1 (not enough hours in the day!). However, it worked well as a standalone novel too although I did feel at times I was missing out on some background information with some of the characters.

This book has been written very well and I found it very fast paced at times. Being set in the future had me a bit worried it would be too much for me but it actually worked really well and there were some great links to current issues and felt quite real at times. When a plague sweeps across Britain and wipes out almost all men and some women… wow. Plenty of twists and turns and definitely kept you hooked and guessing throughout. After reading this book I definitely want to try and squeeze book 1 into my TBR and find out what led them to this point! Overall, a really good read.

A hard hitter of a book!

This story jumps right in on the action from the start. This fact paced sci-fi will keep you on the edge of your seat!! Upon starting to read this I quickly realised there was a previous book in the series I had yet to read, however I think this can be read as a standalone as I didn't find it challenging following along with Claras story. However this was so good I will definitely be going back to read book one to get some more background and see what i've missed.

I really liked the premises of this book, the whole worldwide sickness plot line felt so realistic and really is what got me caught into this book, the author mixed this with some other topics that are relevant right now such as climate change and this really made you feel like you could relate to the story even though this is set in a dystopian sort of time period.

‘Blackwolf’ is the sequel to ‘Truth Sister’ and we find our main character, Clara searching for her mother and trying to uncover the truth. This series is really well written and the story is very bleak and post-apocalyptic but you never lose the ability to care about the characters.

I like Clara a lot more in this book than I did in ‘Truth Sister’ but that’s probably because I know more of her back story and, as a character, she has really grown over the course of the two novels. I was really rooting for her in this story.

I found myself quite liking Thorn, the prison bully, and I found her to be a really interesting and also appalling character. I am really enjoying this series and I wonder what will happen next, especially with how Blackwolf ended.

I received a gifted copy of this novel. This review is my honest opinion and written voluntarily.

My honest thoughts
Blackwolf is as exciting as Truth Sister! Continuing the story of Clara is just so intriguing! It's just hard to put down as I want to know what happens next all the way through it.

I love the way she continues to come out of the sister hood and deals with all the issues thrown at her. She really is coming into being her natural self.

I loved how she found her love ones and reunites then throughout this second part of the story. She is tougher than she thinks she is..

The way it ends is rather brave and makes me really wanna know how she gets out of the next jam she's put herself in!

This is Book Two in the 'Truth Sister' series. i haven't read Book One and at times I wish I had, but don't let that that stop you reading this book. Clara is someone that once believed and followed the government, but the more she learnt and became herself her views began to change and she is a lot stronger than she thinks. With a virus in 2050, that is spreading across Britain, Clara knows she has to help get her mother out of prison and nothing is going to stop that. While Clara is dealing with her mother, Jack is with a group that want their land back and be free from the Republic. This is a well wrote book, that has a fast pace with a few unexpected things in store for the reader.

Truth sister was an amazing read, so I was very excited to read blackwolf and follow Clara again.
Clara is desperate to find her mother. We see a lot of twists and turns in her mission to be reuntited with her mother, and every chapter is full of adventure.
This book was action-packed and followed perfectly from truth sister. I think in this book, we got to see more of the "real world" and got a sense of the true hardships people were facing outside of London. Clara was very naive in the first half of truth sister and never fully understood the truth of the world, as she'd been so sheltered and brain washed by the truth sisters. Her character development has been great. Never did I believe when I started this series, she'd be where she is now, doing the things she's doing.
I'm very glad we got to see some more of Jack in this book, too, and follow his journey a bit more and also see his struggles.
The ending of this was a turn I didn't see coming! I'm really hoping it's been left open for book 3 ?🤞

This was an amazing read. The writing style within this book was very interesting and a style in which I loved reading. Being able to follow these characters again especially after the events of the previous book. I was excited to continue the series to find out what happened next. The events within this book which happened was intrigued. The characters had to go through many challenges within the story which helped the characters develop even further. The plot and storyline of the book was very intriguing to a point that I didn't want to put it down. And especially with the way the story ended. I enjoyed the way in which it ended.

Review: For the most part I thought this was a pretty good book. I liked the premise of it and was instantly drawn into it. The book had a Handmaid’s Tale feel to it and I liked it overall. The book had decent character development and world building. I liked where the story was going for the most part and how it had parallels to the real world.

However, I didn’t realize it was the second in a series and I think reading the first book would help in comprehension of this book. I thought that while the book was really reminiscent of The Handmaid’s Tale, I also had the same hesitation of this book that I do with THT: that the events shown are a parody or callback to events in time that have actually happened to BIPOC women, but the story doesn’t have a lot of BIPOC characters. I also didn’t see trans men or women in the book and in an era of feminism literature where a lot of authors are writing about dystopian worlds where women and/or men are killed off/enslaved needs to address all levels of intersectionality. I also felt that the book was a bit too fast paced for my liking.

Verdict: It’s ok.

" [...] This is how it works: people are always gonna screw you; they’re always gonna let you down, unless they’ve got a reason not to. [...]"
Initially, the book "Blackwolf" by Phil Gilvin did not draw me in, but as I continued reading it got better and better. And I even supported the main character, 16-year-old Clara. Are you curious what a world with lots of climate change and lots of new epidemics looks like? What will the world look like in 2150? Will the author's vision come true? I can honestly tell you that I wouldn't want to live in such a world. Our heroine has gone through a lot in her young life. And there are still a lot of bad things ahead of her. She must free her mother from prison, and there is a long way to go. This will be a dangerous expedition. She will meet various characters along her way. Will everyone wish her well? What is Blackwolf? Clara is a former Sister of Truth. She flees London from the great flood. She had a friend, Jack, from whom she unfortunately separated. She dreams of freeing her mother. But how can she get her out of prison? As I have already written to you, this heroine has many dangerous adventures ahead of her. Is this heroine a Natural or a clone? Jack is also a main character. We get to know the world from his perspective. You will learn about his fate in the book "Blackwolf". Let me just tell you that his life will be in danger. He will join the army of a certain dangerous warrior. What will come of this? Will he ever meet Clara again? The author presented a very apocalyptic world in which you have to fight for your life not only against people, but also against epidemics that decimate societies. Despite the weaker beginning, the author developed his story beautifully. The end of the book kept me in suspense. I really liked the ending. I would love to read other books by this author. Thanks to authors such as Phil Gilvin, I fell in love with the fantasy and science fiction genres. If you like the Post-Apocalyptic theme in books, you've come to the right place. I encourage you to read the book "Blackwolf". While reading this novel, take care of yourself.

This is the follow up to ‘Truth Sister’ which I read and reviewed last year and I was looking forward to catching up with Clara and Jack. This continues their story and we find them a few months after the events in the first book. I would normally say that books in a series can be read as a stand-alone but I think you really do need to have read the first book to fully understand and appreciate the story. There is some explanation given but it’s very minimal and I feel it would be wise to read them as a series.

Clara and Jack have been separated and we find Clara trying to get to the Isle of Wight to rescue her mother from jail and Jack is with a group who are fighting for their wee bit of land, free of the Republic. They find themselves in the middle of groups vying for terrority between Wessex and Anglia. When their paths cross again can they put the past behind them and trust one another again?

The separation of the two characters really allowed the author to play around with their development away from their co-dependent relationship. I always forget how young they actually are considering they are dealing with such huge topics and events. Both characters are easily likeable but I have to admit that Jack is my favourite - there is an innocence in his character that you don't want to see knocked out of him. Both are brave, especially when it involves someone they love and courageous towards others as well.

I flew through this in one day and I was captivated with their journey in this dystopian world. The pacing was a tad slow at times but towards the end it ramped up and there were plenty of misdirection and twists and turns to keep the reader on their toes!

Let me know if you pick this one up!

A very poignant story, an odyssey full of adventure, relationships, deceit, but above all the realisation that reality it not what it seems and we need to fight to find our truth!

I loved this story and the characters, Clara being my absolute favourite, so brave and willing to go way beyond anything to find the truth, but most of all save the people she loves.

This is the second book, the first one being Truth Sister, and although I didn't read the first, I could easily understand the story and Clara's background and the world-building. That what was fascinating, as we're in a future where climate change devastated everything and the world is ruled by women, but their government is not a nice one!
And this point is where I found the more profound message of this book that I couldn't agree more with! By highlighting how unjustly and lowly men are considered in this fictional world, the undeniable truth that humans are humans no matter the gender comes right at your face. We are simply equally just and evil, and I really liked how this comes across in this book!

As for the writing I found it really easy to read and the pages were just turning themselves, leaving me a bit disappointed and eager to know more when I turned the last one.
And because I want to know more about Clara's journey and how she came to become this strong woman she is now, I'll be reading the first one ASAP, whilst waiting for the third book.

Thanks to the author and LoveBooksTours for a copy and this is my honest opinion.

I am a sucker for covers and this one drew my attention straight away! It’s dark, it’s beautiful and I couldn’t wait to see what magic lay between the pages.

The first book in this dystopian tale is titled ‘Truth Sister’ which I took the time to read before reading this one. ‘Truth Sister’ is a beautifully written novel exploring power and gender roles, basically ridding the world of men! - What’s not to like! It’s set in the Women’s Republic of Anglia in 2149, where women are in control and men have no power at all, it’s a world I have often imagined!

Blackwolf touches upon the effects of climate change and the devastation of a plague sweeping across Britain and wiping out hundreds of women and most men. Clara Perdue is now an ex truth sister and she is in the process of helping her mother escape from a prison on the isle of white. Various other characters from the first book make appearances as well.

I don’t feel it is necessary to read the first book in order to enjoy this one but it would give you a bit of an advantage, plus it’s a good book!

Overall, this is a well written novel and great sequel. I enjoyed the plot and characters and would be interested in reading more of this author's work in the future.

A solid 4 star read.

I was gifted an ecopy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I love dystopian literature and the blurb really captivated my attention. I have not read book 1 of this series, but I cannot say that distracted from my enjoyment of this book.
The story starts with Clara, a 17-year-old fugitive. She is hiding from the Republic as she is a Natural and her status makes her a crime and an undesirable. Clara is trying to make her way to Wight to save her mother, Sophia.
The second plot line follows Jack Pike, who was someone Clara knew but she lost contact with because of her rashness and his impulsivity.
I really enjoyed the writing style of this books, reminiscent of A Handmaid’s Tale, and the double plot line that joined together to bring Clara and Jack together again. I also very much enjoyed the pace of the book. Not a moment to be wasted. The writing kept me gripped and curious about what could befall the 3 main characters together. There were so many twists and turns that helped with the pace.
At times I disliked Clara and thought she was weak, arrogant, and rash, but she grew on me as a character and proved herself thought her love of Sophia and her willingness to even burn for her.
Definitely a great book and I am now curious to go and read book 1 as well.

I am a big fan of dystopia, although now it seems more real that it should do. This book drew me in immediately with its subject matter, and cool cover.
This is the second in the series, but buy chapter three I had the rough gist of what was going on. This is a world in which most men have disappeared. Clara is seventeen years old, and is a Natural, meaning she was conceived and birthed naturally, rather than being cloned. This makes her an enemy of the republic and she has to hide her status from them.
The book opens with Clara heading to Wight, to try and break her mother out of prison. The action begins immediately. There is tension and peril from the opening page. This doesnt let up throughout.
Alongside Clara's story is Jacks. A boy she knew, but lost contact with due to her own personality faults. Its clear she realises her fault and that she misses him.
Despite Clara being only seventeen and terrified, I thought she was brave and was rooting for her to succeed. There were times when she was naive, and I felt her mouth was so close to getting her into deeper trouble.
I also liked Jack, and I genuinely cared about the outcome of all three characters. There were a lot of twists and turns along the way to keep you guessing.
Overall this was wonderful read, and I am intrigued to go back and read book one to find out how they all arrived at this point.

Book two in the Truth Sister series, Blackwolf starts off some time after the events of book one with Clara searching for her mother. I really enjoyed this one, more so than Truth Sister and I gave that five stars as well. Set in a dystopian future where women are the ruling class and men have been relegated mostly to servitude. Things in Anglia have started to crumble though, with those in power playing some very dangerous games. Caught up in everything is former Truth Sister, Clara, whose eyes have been opened to the world she lives in.

The word building is truly fantastic; the author's descriptions makes it really clear to picture his concept in your head as you follow Clara's journey. I felt there was an increased amount of peril compared to book one and I just could not stop reading. Each of the characters are well written, with their own development arcs and some surprises along the way. Clara certainly redeems herself and I found myself warming to her very quickly this time around. The chapters are short and well paced making the book both a page turner and one you can put down and easily come back into.

The front cover fits well with the blues of the Thames on book one and fit well together on the shelf as a series. This would be fantastic as a film or tv series too!

Would definitely recommend.

After realising that #Blackwolf is actually the second book in this series, I downloaded the first book #TruthSister and really enjoyed it which made me very excited for the second instalment.

‘𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘯 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘧𝘶𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘴'

As a dystopian tale touching on climate change, plague and humans turning on each other, it’s safe to say that this book was not my usual go to genre. But I actually ended up really enjoying it which was a pleasant surprise.
In the first book, there were times were I struggled engaging with the characters but the second instalment really picked up and it’s a book with a really gripping story of which I was able to get on board with.

The character of Clara was a tricky one for me - boy could she be childish! So much so, that I really struggled to engage with her as a lead character. However, I did find myself warming towards her more and more as the story went on which I was glad for and by the second book I actually really liked her.

I am interested to see where the third and final instalment goes but I am hoping that maybe a few more years have passed in between and that Clara is older because I believe it will help boost her character in a positive way.

Thanks to the author and Love Books tours for letting me read an arc of this in exchange for an honest review.

I actually didn't realise this was a sequel until I started reading, but you could read this as a standalone because all the events of 'Truth Sister' are explained well enough that you can keep track of what's happening.

This was a refreshing, dystopian world that explores gender roles and climate change. Women basically run the world, and the majority of men have been wiped out and are under their control (or rebelling and in hiding).

We see Clara and Jack struggle with their new surroundings, going through difficult trials and emotional turmoil. I liked how fast paced this was, because there's so much travelling, the rapid pace made this interesting and easy to get through.

I found Jack a bit whiny at first, until I realised him and Clara were teenagers (17 I think?), Which made a whole lot more sense 😂. The ending was fun and unexpected, which makes me excited for the final book and interested in reading the full events of book 1🤔❤️

A dark but alluring cover with a similar style to the first book, Truth Sister, but a very different pallet which contrasts well

👪 Characters
Clara and Jack are the lead characters in this book and the book begins by taking you on their respective journeys from where we left off from Truth Sister.

📈 Plot
The book takes you through chapter by chapter their respective journeys. Clara is always so charismatic but she has a number of dark moments in this book. Jack has to step up to fight but is doubtful of his abilities. (It's very hard not to give away spoilers in this review). I really enjoy the details that the author gives in describing events or the environment during the journey.

Blackwolf, book 2 of the Truth Sisters Series.

Having read book 1, I was very much looking forward to Blackwolf, and It certainly did not disappoint. I found that it can be read as a standalone, if you have not read the first book.

The story is centered around a post-apocalyptic world, where Women rule and Men are, for all intents and purposes, second class citizens. The Women ran Government is definitely not a good one, with the UK being split into districts, with one Woman in control of each, some districts ruled by more decent leaders, others not so much.

The characters are well written and have depth, and the world building is just great. You really feel as though you’re in the bleak UK of the future as you read along.

It’s a story of adventure, relationships, lies and deceit, but it’s also a story of certainty, hope, and of a young girl (Clara), finding her way in life.

I’m a big fan of post-apocalyptic novels ( and films ), so really enjoyed this. I could definitely see the story being turned into a film, or maybe a t.v series.

Blackwolf is the next book following on from Truth Sisters by Phil Gilvin. Clara has devised a plan to break her mother out of prison, however things don’t go according to plan and she herself is captured. Clara’s inner strength is put to the test and she must use every ounce to keep herself and her mother Sophie safe. Clara is brave and intelligent, yet she is also full of guilt and doubt. She blames herself for every bad thing that happens to the people she loves. In this dual narrative, the story of Jack, Clara’s ally from the previous book , is continued. Jack is now part of an army, but it’s really the last place he wants to be. He puts in a brave front for those around him. When their paths cross again, Jack and Clara make sacrifices to save each other and Clara’s parents. This shows that they both have good hearts and will stop at nothing to help each other. This book is pacy, well written and a smoother read. I was hooked in from the very first and really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to see what happens next as Clara found herself in quite the predicament at the end.

Blackwolf is the second installment in the Truth Sisters trilogy, and it is just as good as the first.

I'm a big fan of dystopian fiction, and a lover of Feminist literature, especially books that imagine a future with women in charge! So it's no wonder I'm a fan of these books. I especially love that they are set in a post apocalypse England, as the places are often familiar to me which adds to the sense of potential realism. Having said that, it makes them far more scary as a 'thought experiment' as I can't brush it off with "well that wouldn't happen here." And as much as I love the idea of a Feminist future, the world in which these books are set is not one I would want to live in. (I feel I should point out that actually a future where men and women have true equality is actually my ideal.)

Blackwolf follows on from Truth Sister, and it was lovely to find out what happened next for Clara, Jack, Sophia and others. The characters and dialogue are so well written, their relationships with each other feel genuine and real.

A copy of the book was supplied by Love Books Tours in exchange for an honest review.

This was book 2 in a series and although it would've been easier to read the first book beforehand, there was enough detail here that it wasn't really necessary. It was done as the narrative unfolded and not in an info dump at the beginning which helped keep me immersed in the reading. This also perhaps made it a bit slow to get into, and I set myself up with a cheat sheet to keep track of the worldbuilding elements.
At first I was surprised that the MCs turned out to be teenagers, but it explained a lot of their behavioural traits and mannerisms.
Clara, in particular, goes through noticeable character development and grows in self-awareness.
The book explores several themes on both micro and macro levels but largely focuses on those local to the MCs.
The ending is left open for a sequel, which I would read 👀

This is the second book following Clara and her journey in this dystopian world - a world where men are not needed! As with the first book, this is fast paced and well written. I found it an easy and enjoyable read. Not too much jargon or complicated explanations of the world created. The characters are strong and it's easy to follow them throughout the book. I'm enjoying seeing Clara develop over time and I'd be interested in more books in this series.

I really liked Truth Sister so I was so excited to read this book, which continues a short time after Truth Sister and I was disappointed.

The book is well written with a compelling storyline that moves on seamlessly from the first book in the trilogy and the characters are well developed and I felt I got to know them even more in this book.

The book does contain a lot of curse words which didn't always seem necesary which didn't take away from my enjoyment but people that don't like a lot of cursing may be slightly put off by this aspect.

If like me you like Young Adult fiction , in particular Young Adult Dystopian fiction, or Dystopia in general then you will love this book and this series.

I was excited for this one after reading truth sister recently. It feels like the series truly found it’s feet in this book, it was fast paced and the characters become more three dimensional. This book really switched my opinion on Clara, I feel you can really see how she’s had to grow up quick through the 2 books and she makes some clever decisions that are really clover to the plot. It’s been left well for another book in the series which I’m excited for- it feels like it’s all building up to something.

Also, this series will make such an incredible film, so fingers crossed we get to see that happen in the future!!!

This book is the sequel to Truth Sister. It can be read as a standalone but after reading it, I want to go back and read Truth Sister to get more of the history and read more of the story! I was not lost in this book but it engaged me so much that I want to read more. Once I started reading this book I had a hard time stopping. It is not like any other novels I've read but if you like Hunger Games or Divergent style of books, you will like this one also. This is a book about a different world that is thrilling, full of danger and determined characters. I loved learning about this world and hope to read more about it in a future book!

Review
Although this is the second book in a series, I had not read book one, Truth Sister, before reading this, however it can definitely be read as a standalone and felt there was enough contezt throughout that I could clearly follow Clara's journey in Blackwolf.
There are a lot of plot twists in this book which I love as it keeps you guessing, as the story is based around the demise of Britain following detrimental climate change and waves of plagues that disrupts everything in its wake. Clare is desperate to find her mother and on her quest crosses paths with Jack again (love how he gets his own chapters too!) and you can really see their personally growth throughout the story develop.

I do not see that ending either omg! I will definitely be reading book 3 but in the meantime I am going back to read book 1!

Thanks again for the opportunity to read and review this book!

📖📖 Book Review 📖📖 While this is the second book in a series, readers just picking this one up will have no problem getting right into the action of this post-apocalyptic society filled with plague, chaos, and changes in the climate.. The story is narrated in a raw, moving manner that resonates deeply, in a world that seems somewhat familiar to the England we know yet so far from what our minds’ visualize. Our young characters are vulnerable in a scary place and their stories are told in an authentic and gripping manner that will captivate readers. Our young heroine Clara has been through so much and her journey shows remarkable strength, which is like a breath of fresh air in this strange, dystopian land.

A year on, and Clara is free..but not quite. She finds herself on the quest of saving her mother from prison, taking any means necessary to do so. When her and Jack found themselves separated, he falls in with a group dictated to by someone gunning for war. A virus spreads in the year 2150, will Clara, Jack, and mother make it through the plague, the government (and lack thereof), the war?

There is a lot of character development in this sequel and it's great to see. Clara, once a staunch follower of the government, has grown into someone who now despises everything they stand for. Whilst I could still notice that life long indoctrination still there, it withers away, and presents someone who is willing to do anything to save her mother.

Jack gets chapters of his own, and this too was a fun break up in the story. Like the first, Blackwolf is slow burning and slow paced, but having two perspectives breaks this up and adds to speeding the pace up slightly.

I found that separately, they started to come into their age a little bit, especially Clara who was affected by chemicals that have now left her body. Both her and Jack start to understand their feelings coming into the middle of their teens, with sexuality and understanding love and lust between people. This was interesting to follow and a great addition.

I did feel sad when at 15/16, they felt like adults. And it's clear the environment they're in now made them grow up too quickly, again a small and minor detail but when picked up on added alot.

The style of writing is the same, with the same level of implied brutality, and at times described too. I think this works well with the book and the audience it's probably catered towards. Description of areas the characters find themselves in are often dank and gritty feeling, the world feels dirty and depressing. This felt super immersive to me.

I found that there is more emphasis on how this world is in the future, but yet everything has gone so behind the times once again, using swords instead of guns (only certain people can get them etc) and obviously the use of power and electricity is heavily regulated and mostly government owned. To me, this is that classic dystopian feel, and I loved it.

There were few parts that I wasn't so keen on. Characters who appear again, when they probably shouldn't, just to make the storyline up. This is fine but just not as believable, and can take away from the immersion felt through the rest of the book. luckily this is more towards the end.

a small plot line that was used once, then again as a bigger plot line, left me a little deflated from seeing it again. I do wonder if something else could've been used in it's place, so that when it came up again, it did have abit more on an impact on me.

Overall, another great and enjoyable read from Phil Gilvin. I hope to see a third in this series to complete Clara's story, and perhaps bring everything together and get a brilliant well rounded ending to the Clara Perdue tale.
