Friendship, betrayal, blackmail and revenge: the stunning debut novel from bestselling non-fiction author, Tim Hill.
Three couples. Three rock-solid marriages. Six friends. One tight-knit group. But even the closest bonds can be blown apart – all it takes is the detonation of a large enough grenade...
Cocky, sexually incontinent Ben unwittingly pulls the first pin after a row with wife Zoe. It’s small beer by his low standards, yet this time the transgression will have fatal consequences.
Donna is responsible for the second explosion. With her body clock ticking and doting husband Zbiggy unable to give her the child she craves, Donna makes a decision that rebounds on her in ways she could never have foreseen.
Rob and Andrea are caught up in the blast, one that exposes the hidden fissures in their own marriage. When actions involve deceit, betrayal, blackmail and revenge, it pays to know who’s watching and who’s being watched...
A compelling story combining striking realism with originality and gripping suspense, from a brilliant new voice in fiction.
I found the book a little bit of a slow starter, but then realised this was only just the beginning. What followed was a tangled web of duplicitous friends all hiding their own secrets from their friends and each other.
Watch How You Go is the author's first foray into writing a fiction novel and as debuts go it's pretty damn good.
Once the story started flowing and the stakes were raised I couldn't tear myself away until I'd finished.
Very well written, the characters extremely flawed with foibles aplenty.
Many thanks to Random Things Tours for my tour spot.
I absolutely loved this debut novel. It was suspenseful in the way that you know the characters are going to slip up with their lies. The more I read, the more I got tangled up in the lies & deceit. But it was all down to desperation, things you would do and how far you would go to get what you wanted. Big secret’s everywhere. It is a slow burner, but fast enough to keep you wanting more. The storyline is fantastic, the characters were brilliant, I did take a instant dislike to a couple of characters . I would highly recommend this superb book.

This was an interesting novel told throughout from each person’s perspective.
We learn their secrets, how they all think, how they act around each other and at home, and how they resolve their problems - or don’t in some cases. Why people act the way they do to get what they want and how some will do anything to scratch the itch that they can’t reach.
I enjoyed how my opinion of some characters changed throughout dependent on their actions and how I ended up routing for some couples more than others.
A great debut into literary fiction by Tim Hill with a surprisingly sad ending.
This book had me gripped from the start and couldn’t put it down. It was full of suspense and you never knew what was coming next. I will definitely be recommending it to everyone I know. A great read.

This is quite a fast-paced story, jam-packed with trials, tribulations and drama. In a nutshell, my kinda book!
I can’t really say too much without spoiling it, but suffice to say I really enjoyed it. It did bounce back and forth through multiple points of view, but, their situation and drama was so interesting it didn’t detract from the experience at all. It also wasn’t difficult to follow, and each time it switched it only sucked me in more. I really liked the style of writing too. It kept me engaged, guessing, and often changed my opinions of the characters, who, I liked a lot. And finally, the ending. Wow, what an ending!
It’s a well deserved 4 star review from me. Thank you to Anne at Random Things Tours and Atlantic Publishing for providing me with a print copy in exchange for my own honest review.
Watch How You Go follows the lives of a friendship group of 6 people, comprising of 3 couples, as their worlds are torn apart through deceit and lies. I read another review which stated that the book reads like a soap opera, and this resonated with me. The people within the book were living ordinary lives, with trips to Aldi and stays in the Premier Inn, but managed to get themselves into some sticky situations through their own failings and bad decisions.
Some of the characters were downright bad - Rob, I'm looking at you! - and I couldn't wait for him to get his comeuppance. There were a few stereotyped characters - the cheeky chappy, the blonde bombshell etc - and I found that I had little empathy for them as they put themselves in those situations, and at times I felt like screaming at them as you could see a mile off how those decisions were going to work out for them.
The writing was fast paced and easy to read, and the short chapters made it easy to pick up and read a quick chapter when I had 10 minutes spare and I did enjoy reading it. The tone of the book changed in the last couple of chapters, and it became almost like a thriller, changing the perspective on some of the events within.
It was a good account of how friendship groups can be blown apart by bad decisions, and how you can never really know what goes on behind closed doors, even in the relationships that look the strongest from the outside. Some of the scenes were far fetched, but enjoyable like a soap opera. I would recommend this for a quick, easy read.
