An isolated military hospital. A horde of hungry chasers. To get out, they’ll have to break through the savagery. James will do anything to save his sister. After fighting to reach the army-secured medical building with his crew, he’s relieved she’s managed to fend off the infection. But it slices his happy reunion short when a sea of dead breach their barricade. As zombies smash their way up through the floors, his stomach plunges when he discovers the secret to saving humanity lies outside the blockade. And the only means to retrieve the data is for James and his faithful dog to descend into the hellish battleground. Can James keep both his sister and the cure safe, or will the murderous mob rip humanity’s last hope to shreds? Immune is the fourth book in the dark Dead State post-apocalyptic series. “Out of the frying pan and into the fire. That’s what our current situation feels like.” - James
James, Lucas and Cassie arrive at the military research facility in Yreka in the midst of a dense blockade. It’s only when James mentions that he’s Cindy’s brother that the they are given the go ahead to enter the facility. James’ happy reunion with Cindy is short lived, however, when a horde of the undead breach their barricade. As each floor of the facility becomes compromised, the team learn that outside help will take some time in coming. It is therefore vital that any data the medical staff have obtained is salvaged in time for when they are rescued. Can James keep both his sister and humanity’s last shred of hope safe?
Immune is the fourth compelling instalment of the Dead State series and was the most tense and nail biting instalment yet. As each floor of the facility became overrun with zombies, the scenes positively crackled with tension and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. While the undead were unrelenting, the bravery and the heroism showed by the military as they desperately tried to buy time to allow others to escape was heart rending.
One interesting instance that I found intriguing was the way one of the zombies behaved around Cindy when they breached her room. Coupled with the fact that she is immune, and the dead seem to be drawn to the facility ever since the military brought Cindy there, one wonders what the connection is.
The conclusion has neatly paved the way for what promises to be an epic finale in the fifth and final instalment, Evolve. I can’t wait!
I received an advanced free audible copy of Executioner and I am voluntarily reviewing it. B. C Archer did an excellent job in bringing the characters and the story to life with his clear, concise delivery which made it easy to differentiate between characters.
Nothing against Derek Shupert or B.C. Archer they both were awesome but I found that waiting to get this audible to continue the story I lost what has occurred in the previous audibles. So I recommend you get the full set before you start to listen. Now when the next one comes I will get it and wait to see if there anymore to be released and start the whole series again. Now to be up front I was not impressed with this audible it seem rushed and I was lost from the beginning to the end nothing seem to fit in place and I found hard to follow the story or the events as they happen or happen prior to them arriving at the hospital. There seems to be way to many blanks spots and the title of the audible was miss leading a bit and I felt that calling it Immune was never really explained to me or my satisfaction. That was the Cons for Pros well written and very narrated as always. Sorry there not a lots of Pro's as there were Con's.
This fourth in this series is full of action, drama and suspense! I loved it! It is fast paced and basically I didn’t want to miss a second. Here we find James, Duke, Cassie and Lucas possibly finding his Sister. They fight the chasers and others. I really enjoyed watching James grow during this series. He learned to keep his head or possibly lose it. He has had to do unspeakable things to save himself or friends. He never gave in...he ran, walked and drove to keep moving along.
This is the fourth book in this series. I would recommend reading the other three before this one. The author does a good job keeping me interested in the story. I did listen to this on audio. BC Archer did a wonderful in this book and on this series.
Wow, what’s ride this book was, James finally gets reunited with his sister and everyone is safe with the military or are they? Read the book to find out! I can not say it enough! If you have not read this author then you are missing out! If you like a fast pace and lots of action storyline then this is the series for you! I love writing style of this writer. He creates characters that you get invested in and share in their joy and pain and you are hopeful none of them will be killed! Hint hint I can’t wait for the next book to be released.
I haven’t read any Zombie books, but this one has a virus that basically creates something similar. The writing is repetitive, especially the vocabulary. It could use another couple of rounds of editing. Why the five stars then? I give it a likely self-published five stars. It’s on Kindle Unlimited as well. So if you are a kindle unlimited reader and willing to overlook underdeveloped writing for a solid plot that holds your interest and a character you feel invested in…here you are.
I feel as if I was running from the chasers myself! Lol I keep trying to hurry James, Cindy, Cassie , Lucas and Duke to run faster and faster. After what happened to Mack, I don't want anyone else to die. We are free from the hospital, now what is going to happen? Can't wait to read the next one if my nerves can take it. Thanks for such an enjoyable read Derek Shupert.
Still chasers everywhere they go, they can’t seem to get a break from the action. James, Lucas & Cassie have found out the military research facility where they have taken Cindy. She has been bitten well over a week ago and she still hasn’t changed so the are trying to find out why she is immune. Duke is hanging in there with them, but they aren’t getting much rest or food. You need to read all of these in order. A lot happens at the end of this one. Now on to book 5.
I've read all of the books in this series so far and they're all fantastic. I went through so many emotions reading these books and I just want to say if you're on the fence, please do yourself a favor and read them. I don't usually write reviews but wanted to post one for this series.
Book four did not disappoint. The action was nonstop! James finds his sister Cindy but the Horde is converging. Cindy is immune and this reader is curious to find out if the Chasers are drawn to Cindy. Looking forward to book 5!
They've reached the hospital that's under military control. Is Cindy really there? Are they really safe? Can anything stop the dead? Enter the gates and find out in this nonstop action packed continuation of suvival in the Dead State. A++
