The two titans of horror and comedy unite in comics for the very first time! Dynamite Entertainment Proudly Presents... Elvira Meets Vincent Price! Elvira is back, with her most historic AND greatest costar ever! The ghost of Vincent Price is a spirit with a mission, and only the Mistress of the Dark can help! The Apocalypse is coming, and it's going to be live-streamed for binge-watching, but a long-lost movie can save the world... if only the movie star specter and the horror hostess with the mostest can find it in time! Thrills, chills, and all sorts of terrible puns!
This is a warning to all living mortals, that whosoever reads this trade paperback of demons, will unleash five of the most terrifying issues, upon the face of the Earth!
Look, I didn't get my 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo reference in this book, so I'm doing it myself.
Elvira and the ghost of Vincent Price team up to save the world from destruction at the hands of Egyptian Gods, so it's a typical Tuesday for the pair of them. It's a fun filled romp, a little light on the laughs but high on the action, and it carries on neatly from the continuity of the previous 12 issue series and the Shape Of Elvira too, as well as using the final issue of the series to tell a one-and-done that plunges Elvira straight into her next adventure.
The artwork, from Juan Samu, has much more life and punch to it than the previous series as well, which is a welcome return to form.
This team up just feels right! I already knew David Avallone had a good handle on writing Elvira but his take on Vincent Price is just as wonderful. This was SO much fun; I'd love to see a sequel down the line.
• the characterization of Elvira and Vincent Price was spot on, this author understands both icons very well; the humor and jokes throughout were also very well suited to Elvira's style of comedy • the page layouts and artistic choices were dynamic and were a great tool in telling this story • the plot felt like a bit of an odd choice, as I would have preferred the series to follow more closely to the horror genre considering who the main characters are; it felt too much like an action/adventure movie • the final issues was fun, but unfortunately it had nothing to do with the previous four and was purely a means of setting up the next Elvira series; it would've been nice to have more issues with a similar structure before ending this series to start another
Appropriately this is a wild romp of a comic, just like a film feature these two would have been. Having the whole story centered around a horror movie and Vincent Price reviving his most beloved characters is nothing less than a stroke of genius. Juan Samu's art is brilliant, capturing the likenesses of real people without being too stiff. He conveys actions and emotions as easily as though the images were actually moving. I can only believe that the creative team had great fun working on this book and didn't want to stop. And I am grateful as it likely led to the follow-up one-issue story which was equally enjoyable.
This was such a FUN read. David Avallone really got the 'voice' of both Elvira & Vincent Price right, and reading this volume will make you wish that duo had worked together on a film. The mood in this story (all about ancient gods plotting to bring about the end of the world) is pretty tongue in cheek, and there are a ton of fun references to horror films and the people who made them. The pacing felt just a little off, and could have been fixed if there was just one more issue (as the last issue is not really a part of the main story, and is more like a lead in to the next Elvira adventure). Still, if you're an Elvira fan, this is definitely recommended reading.
Elvira and Vincent Prince in the same comic book sounds like an AMAZING mashup. But, is it any good? Wonderfully the answer is YES! Author David Avallone perfectly captures the mannerisms and speech patterns of Vincent Price. He also captures the humor and fun nature of Elvira. This could easily have been a fun B-movie starring both horror icons.
The art is very well done with great facial expressions.
This is a must read story for classic horror fans. Plus Vincent Price and Elvira fans will enjoy the many nods towards Vincent's movies and Hollywood tropes.
I may be a fan of classic horror, but as of this writing, I still have not seen anything Elvira. I've not watched her show, I've not seen her make a live appearance. I don't even know what her voice sounds like! So, I went into this really not knowing how much of it felt like true Elvira brand. But, Vincent...oh, he was perfect! Vincent Price was charming, funny, and perfect and I enjoyed his parts very much. I want to go on a mysterious ghost adventure with him, too, now!
This was a cosy, heartwarming ride. Truly just as charming as you’d expect an Elvira and Vincent Price adventure to be.
It stands alone nicely but very much felt like an episode taken out of a series for Elvira so will have to seek out Elvira Mistress of the Dark which is before this and Elvira in Horrorland which proceeds this one. The epilogue to Elvira Meets Vincent Price is essentially the prologue to Horrorland so really want to get hold of that.
This is a pretty decent addition to the dynamite elvira comics. The art is top notch, the writing is pretty good, and up until the last issue it is the most focused outing Elvira has had. However they honestly could have stopped at issue 4. Issue 5 seems a bit like a post ending wrap up? Still, one of the better volumes of Elvira.
What a delightfully macabre way to bring these characters into the modern world for all the new generations to enjoy! The artwork is simply stunning! I can absolutely envision our Queen Cassandra Peterson as Elvira and the legend Vincent Price embarking on this quest to save the world! The story was entertaining and flowed well, and it really left me yearning for my adventures with these two!
A fun and schlocky globetrotting romp, paying tribute to two of the best horror hosts to ever do it. Packed with charm and innuendo, this book feels authentic to the brand of Elvira in every way. The book never tries to be something it's not, and isn't afraid to lean into the campy fourth wall breaking, without slipping into obnoxiousness. Four and a half stars, truly. Get it together, Goodreads.
Fun, cover to cover. From Vincent Price's campy horror legacy, to Elvira's own short film run, this touched all the right keys. Thanks to the creators of this gift. ✌️♥️
As someone who adores Vincent Price, it was so charming to read his adventures as a ghost with Elvira! I imagined his voice the whole time, what a delight for any fan! These comics are light hearted abd fun, and don't forget Elvira's sass!
A complete delight for fans of both of these icons of classic horror, every line that was written for Vincent Price in this feels exactly like something he would have said in one of his films or interviews! Captures the spirit and energy of both said icons brilliantly!
The love for Vincent Price, both the actor and the man, shines through this book. This book was a fantastic romp reminiscent of The New Scooby-Doo Movies which were a staple of my childhood.
