Dark Elves of Protheka #2

Captive of the Dark Elf

Rate this book
I’m nothing more than a plaything. My life is worthless.

That’s a basic truth that all human women on Protheka are reminded of daily.

Imagine an innocent daughter following her dad to his work as the head groundskeeper for a Dark Elf noble.
This young woman is curious and stumbles into a room she doesn't belong in.
A Dark Elf sees her, and his desires inflamed, he literally takes her from her dad.

That was me. Taken and locked away to be used to satisfy the basest of Haftar's desires.

Now I’m trapped in a society that prizes casual brutality and the amoral pursuit of pleasure.
Where human life means nothing and is snuffed out for sport.

The Dark Elf is my master in this twisted world of nightmares.
But that’s not the worst horror I have to experience at his hands.

The truly terrifying thing about Haftar isn't that he's evil.

It's that the more evil he shows me...

The more I fall in love with him.

Celeste King is the author behind the Worlds of Protheka, a collection of interconnected series that promise dark fantasy, intense romance, and washboard abs. When it comes to her stories, there are sure to brooding alphas, sassy humans, and plenty of spice to look forward to.

With the ever growing fantasy worlds, the 'what ifs' are endless, and that is what excites her the most. Even she doesn't know just how far these characters will go, but she's gladly along for the ride.

You can always find her fearlessly diving into an adventure (in this world or another), typically with her husband, and partner in crime, at her side.

She helps keep the excitement alive for the rest us with each of her Prothekan works, where there are no heroes coming to save you and being kidnapped...isn't so bad when your captor is this hot.

i need my epilogues , dammit!!!!

I loved the story, the romance, the connection and heart between the MCs. But I was disappointed there was no epilogue and no babies. It’s why I’m giving it 3 stars.

Safe. Hero’s past is mentioned several times. He was a manwhore, but looking for something deeper than meaningless and empty sex. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to the hero. No others, no cheating and no abuse. HEA but no epilogue and no babies.

I didn't rate this book because, well... I just don't know what to say. I do know that a lot of authors get better as they go along, so there's that. The book wasn't awful, I truly have read worse. I'll say this, I'm going to read others in the series just to see how it progresses. That's really all I can say 🤷🏿‍♀️

Still amazing cover and inside a sweet romance. The blurb sound darker than you will find between the pages. An easy read well written.

Wow I really love this book and I was surprised that I really liked Haftan because he’s not like all the other Elf’s who treat the human females as Sex toys and play things with not regard for them at all. Jenny is as innocent as they come and while going to work with her father as the groundskeeper of a DarkElf Haftan she knows of him as a musician that she loves and gets caught playing one of his instruments and he is furious and decides to keep her for himself. Haftan is a musician who is struggling and when he catches a human playing one of his instruments he is angry at first but she makes him feel again and he takes her as his muse and at first he was very forceful but as he gets to know her he starts treating her very well and they have a strong connection but other Dark Elf’s are not happy about how he is treating her because they are nothing more than toys. Can they have a future together or will others change his mind. Great book.

Haftar (H) is a well-known noble dark elf musician who employs a number of humans on his estate, one of whom is Jenny's (h) father. Jenny has been coming to the estate and secretly playing Haftar's instruments when he is way from home, and when he finds out what she's been doing, there's hell to pay. Haftar fires everyone else and forces Jenny to become his servant for the entire estate, btu he finds himself both jealous and in awe of her musical talents. Perhaps she can be his moos and perhaps she can be something even more as their relationship develops from a sexual one to something much more. I really enjoyed the exploration of the musically creative natures of Haftar and Jenny, especially as she was able to re-inspire his love for music. Similar to the first book in the series, this book also looks at questioning the human-dark elf societal relationships and definitely makes we want to read the next book!

Touching

This next installment to this series was very interesting. Very real life writting. The world King has introduced is very different from other fae worlds but yet these guys aren't fae but dark elves. Yet there are similar interactions that take place amongst the characters but also unique to other authors I've read. Now I must be honest, I will be reading the whole series.

Not what I expected

I thought that this would be a continuation of book 1 with Kral and Amelie and the fate of humans on Protheka, but it really wasn’t. In fact, Kral was barely mentioned towards the end at the culmination of the relationship of the couple in this book.

I would have expected that the news of Kral and Amelie’s union would have spread far and wide, considering his wedding invitations being sent to every country, thus spreading possible hope for humans and dark elves alike that could have possibly fallen for a human but held back being a taboo thing to do. But the mention of Kral was coupled only with rumors of a scandal he committed and no details of it were known. Which is also odd considering that Haftar is from a noble family…

The world building still needs work but it was good. Details of how Jenny’s family faired were scarce and I would have liked to have known how the others he rehired treated them in the household considering Jenny’s elevated status as mate and lady of the house. Then their are the twins… how could they work 24/7 guarding the gate? They would have to sleep and eat at some point and no other guards were mentioned and they were always together. Speaking of eating, how did they when Haftar fired everyone since Jenny only tried to make meals for him?

The stories have lacked a lot of details thus far but doesn’t skimp on the sex scenes… but I prefer a good detailed storyline along with my sexy scenes. This work is interesting enough to keep reading although I hope the characters merge at some point and we get some cameos or something. As it is now, I’m not even sure if Kral and Haftar are in the same city.

See my notes and highlights on Goodreads. Happy reading!

Haftar is a dark elf a member of a noble family and a musician. Jenny a human, who has gone with her father to work on Haftar's estate since she was a child. She would hide and listen to Haftar play his music and then she would sneak in when he was gone and learned to play the instruments, writing her own music. When she became older, her father would leave her at home, but she still followed him there to hear and play the music. Finally she is caught by Haftar. Startled by the dark elf, she breaks an instrument and in a rage, he fires his entire human staff and keeps Jenny as his lone slave. This book is so well written, these two characters have such growth and learn so much about each others worlds. The story is full of sizzle, steam, some twists, drama, and understanding. Loved this book and you can read this book and book 1 for free with your Kindle Unlimited subscription. Awesome series.

I received an ARC from Booksprout and this is my honest review,

I LOVE these Dark Elf books!!! I was a huge fan of the last one, but then I read this one and WOW this is even better! Each one is so unique and the couples happen upon each other in such different ways. Sometimes with these kinds of series, the couples start getting stale, but so far they all seem to be their own thing and I am loving each one!

I really enjoyed how different this one was to the first book in the series. Each Dark Elf has his own uniqueness to him and it really helps to make these stories shine within the series. The books are shorter in length, which is kind of sad since I would love to really dig into a full length book with each of these couples!

All in all though, I adore this series!

Filled with Dark Elves and the oppressed humans trapped in their world Captive of the Elf becomes another intriguing journey through the wickedness that is Protheka.
FMC Jenny’s love of music has led her into trouble with the Dark Elf nobleman of the mansion where her father is the head groundskeeper. MMC Haftar becomes her captor in this second exciting entry of the Dark Elves of Protheka storyline. With its fast-paced narrative, compelling story that is perfectly written this Dark Elf and his human will definitely thrill anyone looking for an erotic and sensuous romance read.

Musical love 💕

What i like about this book is that it focuses on the 2 main leads character development and the development of their love. By denying themselves most types of sensual pleasure they were able to go from enemies to friends to mates and lovers.

I love their their creative love.

I just wish they would have performed professionally for the royals and advancing human rights.

Love it!

I love this world and how the characters make themselves known. Everyone has a barrier to cross. She the one of absolute terror, he the one of absolute contempt. And together they find the path of commitment to move forward. I want to continue reading this series!.

Short and sweet...

Good story. It's a quick read and I enjoyed it. The dark elves certainly have some crazy evil debauched behavior along with their hot tempers and magic but some of them can be quite loveable in spite of themselves. I hope to understand more about the rift that occurred that caused people from earth to end up in Protheka.

Made the mistake of not reading book 1 to get a better understanding of the world/caste system, but overall a quick, easy read with an HEA. Dark elf musician finds himself ensnared by a human who has been sneaking into his music room to listen and play.

Enjoyable second book in this series is about Haftar a dark elf and Jenny a human. Since Jenny was a little child while her father worked in the garden, she will hide by a statue to hear Haftar play. Feeling the music call to her and believing Haftar is out, Jenny sneaks into his music room and starts playing and singing one of her songs on his homre when she is caught by Haftar. Haftar who has come home early from his travels and is struggling with creating music, hears a song that awakens him from his dream. Following the music, he finds a human woman playing and angrily confronts her. Jenny startle drops and breaks the homre. Afraid for her family, Jenny promises Haftar anything. Firing everyone, Haftar consigns her as the only maid for his mansion to repay for the damages. As they spend time together, does Jenny become Haftar's muse? I enjoyed reading this story that I received via Booksprout and that I volunteer to review.

I loved this book even more than the first one. Great world building. Jenny's father works as a gardener for dark elf Haftar. Haftar is a musician and Jenny loves his music. For fourteen years Jenny would sneak into his mansion while her father was gardening and listen to him play; and when he was away, she would sneak into his music room to practice on his instruments. One day Haftar returned early from a tour and heard her playing. Startling her, she drops and damages one of his instruments. To make her pay, he fires all his staff- including her father- and she will take on all their work for free until her debt is repaid. I really loved the characters and the dynamic between Haftar and Jenny. I couldn't put this book down. Highly recommended. 5 stars.

This is book 2 in the Dark Elves of Protheka series and I’m absolutely loving this series and this story is about Jenny and Haftar. Haftar a dark elf is a musician somewhere along the way he lost his passion for the music and when he finds Jenny playing his instrument he’s furious but he’s even worse when Jenny plays with passion and soul. Fantastic story I loved it and I highly recommend this book.

This story was a lot more narrative than I expected. I thought it would be more intense and steamier than the first novel in the series. However, this one was boring. I got through it because it was short. The tension between the two characters fell flat for me. Since they were the only two in the house, I expected more cat and mouse. I wanted more dialogue that included flirtation or at least for the male character to make good on his threat to give a spanking.

Music & Passion

I loved book one and I like book two as well but one is still my favorite. Hafter and Jenny are good together but the buildup to the passion just seemed a little bit of a let down. Their joining together wasn’t quite as explosive and got to have you now type of coupling. Even though Jenny was a virgin. But I still enjoyed their story. I will move on to the other books about this planet for sure

This one was better. I liked the story a bit better it didn't seem as rushed as the first one. I liked both leads actually, but I knew before it was revealed that he was nobility. So that wasn't as much of a shake up as I would have liked but it's okay. The couple was more likable though so I forgave it.

This is the second book of the series and it is so far my favorite. The characters and the storyline were well developed and based on the first book, I can see the author really getting into it. I cannot wait to read the next book.

good read

A lot less violence than the first book. Humans are still treated unkind. I hope but the end of this series it will be different. Jenny loved music. Besides her family it was the only thing that brought her happiness. She got caught playing her father’s employer instrument and he made her his slave. But things turn out far different than she could have imagine.

This is book two for Haftar and Jenny’s life

This is book two for Haftar and Jenny’s life. The blurb pretty much says it all. The gardener’s daughter sneaks into the music room of the mansion to play musical instruments. Jenny is caught by Hafter and the drama ensues. Jenny is a good girl plus smart and talent. The book is easy to read.

Captive of the Dark Elf #2

Those Dark Elves are sneaky creatures. They sneak upon you and have you falling in love With them without you even realizing that it's happened. They even know what the human woman wants and needs to keep her satisfied. The author must have a tight connection with them to know how they operate.
