Simon has recently found a devil on his shoulder. A foul-mouthed murderous little psychopath that insists it is the personification of his self-doubt, and is only there to help.
But it’s not.
‘Little Simon’ is borne of chaos. It’s evil. It will kill, and cannibalize, and brutalize. It will do anything to take control of the body and spread its seed, to reproduce.
It will take everything Simon has and destroy it.
Simon Says is full of brutal violence and weird sex, cheap European lager, and a cold lamb pie which Simon himself suggests has the same mouth feel as pus. If that sounds unappealing, and well it may, you might want to give this one a miss.
Ash Ericmore’s debut novel is an extreme horror, painted with the blackest of humour. Consider this a trigger warning for just about everything.
I’m in such a wierd mood today. Not sure if it’s because I started watching Showtime’s Dexter, and parts of this story brought me back to the show. All I know is that it’s been some time since I’ve read a splatterpunk book, and this gave me my fix. I would also pay any sum of money to hear passages of this story read by the Iron Sheik, too. Could be amazing for so many reasons. Try reading this and imagine him doing it. If you don’t laugh, you must not have a soul. So Simon is a pretty quirky guy. And he has these little voices that direct him on what to do. Sometimes he is in control and other times not so much. So he proceeds to fornicate with several women in some pretty intense ways, perform drawn out autopsies on victims, and lead a very crazy existence. There was a very comparable and oddly charming quality between Simon, Weak Simon, and Little Simon, much akin to Eddie Brock and his symbiote from Spider-Man lore. Also, the only other time I’ve seen a girl named Daisy was in Mario Brothers, but after reading this book’s version, I may never play the game again. But that’s about the skinny of it here. No deep thinking or hidden messages or anything beyond surface-level, unless you count the viscera of some of the characters here. If you’re in the mood for a mindless, sex and violence-filled romp, this is for you.
"...since he had slipped out of the chaotic nothing and into Simon he had found that his tastes had become somewhat unusual."
Enter wicked Simon, an entity that manipulates the weaker human Simon, a man who is simply trying to get by in life. Like a devil on his shoulder, wicked Simon is cruel and unforgiving, trying to immobilize the humanity left in his host. The demon longs to torture, have sex with, murder and cannibalize humans. Above all, he wants to reproduce. Both "Simons" can pick up on the other's thoughts, and the fight for ownership of the host's body is a dark and painful process. This is a solid tale of good versus evil, with plenty of gore, violence and dark humor along the way. Choose your weapons; they are many.
I have loved everything I have read from this author so far, and this was no exception! I do love the extreme gore, blood, guts, violence, and dark humor in his books.
I believe we all have a little Simon in us, some are just more vocal others, which normally need meds to keep them more suppressed. Simon wasn’t a great guy to begin with, add little Simon and you got yourself brutal, violent maniac. Fun, quick read. If you like extreme horror and have no triggers, you should read his books!
I bloody loved this one.. Little Simon cracked me up.. I kept thinking I knew what was gonna happen but I was gladly wrong every time. Another fabulous Ericmore book.
