Growing up in Hollywood, on the celebrity circuit, most of Corey Matthews' life played out in the headlines. Now the heavily sought out baseball star keeps his life private avoiding reporters as much as possible. But one silly mistake leads to a green-eyed thorn is side blackmailing him for a story.
After a personal tragedy, Taran Murphy's career is all she has left. She needs her job, and her boss wants Corey's story. So when she gets the chance, she goes after the sexy all-star pitcher. She didn't expect getting to know the man behind the larger-than-life athlete would change everything.
Soon the best part of Corey's life is the sassy gossip writer that's driving him crazy. When he drops his guard and lets her in, Taran has to decide if what she really needs is Corey or his story.
Jenni Bara lives in New Jersey working as a paralegal in family law, writing real-life unhappily ever-afters every day. In turn, she spends her free time with anything that keeps her laughing, including life with four kids, or five, if you count her husband. She is just starting her career as a romance author writing books with a great balance of life, love, and laughter.
If I could give this book ten stars I would. I LOVED this book. Taran and Corey's story was magic. There is the forbidden aspect of the reporter and the story she's chasing, there is the surprise back story of who she REALLY is from this series which I LOVED how the author pulled off. I cannot sing this books praises higher. I don't reread often but this is a book I will be purchasing and rereading. Jenni keeps getting better with every book and I can't wait to see how she tops this one but it will be hard because this was easily one of my favorites from 2022.
This is my first book by Jenni Bara and I really enjoyed it.
Taran is a sports writer who is struggling with PTSD from an event that has changed her life 2 years ago. Corey "Captain America" Matthews a beloved MLB pitcher has been in the spotlight ever since he was born. He always avoids any media attention, but what happens when one reporter changes that?
Here is what I loved:
Taran. She was beautifully written. She is weak yet strong; sad yet happy; broken yet whole. She believes she is fine and handling her PTSD, but when things get too much will she finally accepts the fact that she does need help?
Corey Matthews. Beloved baseball player who is protective of his privacy. He knows from his past experiences that communication is key and that he needs to learn to trust. Can he do that with Taran?
The angst. It's so hard t explain, but I was constantly on edge. Is it going to happen now? Then once it did... wow!
What I didn't like:
It was predictable. You knew how the rest of the story was going to lay out from the moment you found out about the conflict. In addition, it was in 3rd person POV.
This is a standalone in a connected series. I did not read the other books prior to this one and I wasn't lost. However, I would recommend reading in order to get the full climatic effect.
If you love sports romance, easy read with a HEA then this book is for you!
Give me a baseball romance any day of the week and I’m a happy girl! A super private professional baseball player and a sports reporter blackmailing him for a story. When they both drop their walls and get to know each other how can it possibly go wrong?
I have loved the Evans family series from the start and More Than a Story did not disappoint. I really enjoyed getting to know the main characters, learning their backstories, and seeing their growth, both separately and together. Although the books can be read as stand-alones, I recommend reading them in order.
Thank you to the author for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Can I give this ten stars?? With each book in this series I find a new favorite! I loved how Taran was introduced and who we find out she really is.
Between the funny banter and the segsy tension I was hooked from the beginning! And I loved that, like most of her books, she incorporated gripping and emotional backstory/things they both had to overcome in order to truly be together. And the funny family dynamics are always a hoot!
Wow....I love this family!! Each Evans has their own story to tell and Corey's was just as amazing as the rest. He's such a softy, who needed a shake once in a while....tiny Taran fitted him perfectly. If your wondering whether to read this....the answer should always be yes. Although you could read these as standalones I would highly recommend the whole series....just for the OMG moment I had with Taran. Can not wait to see who's next
Awesome to see a different version of PTSD than Nicks in More than a Hero, showing there's no one way to suffer from PTSD. Also great to see a focus on Dyslexia, highlighting the difficulties and stigmata that comes with it.
I love that we got Corey's story which just established what we all knew; Corey's a true Evans brother! 🥰
And of course Corey needs someone like Taran with her sass, funny t-shirts, big personality and gamer addiction.
I absolutely love this book and if you haven't jumped on the Becoming an Evans Brother series bandwagon yet, you really have to!
Corey & Taran what can I really say that will show how much I love these two.
Corey you made me fall in love with yet another Evans family member. Closed off to the media and keeping his private life has always been important to him yet when a fiesty dark hard beauty places herself in his circle the rules change.
Taran is looking for her next story yet little did she know that one night could turn into the story she didn’t know she needed.
These two are Fire and Ice in the most perfect way, the banter between them is amazing and the push pull will have you flipping the pages waiting to see what happens.
Of course it’s not without some bumps in the road and secrets come out. When you find the person that makes you be better you will fight with everything to make them see that.
This is a definite must read on the Enemies to Loves list and she ups her game with each of the Becoming an Evans Series books. I can’t wait to see which brother we get next.
So much to unpack for these two. Both Taran and Corey have some pretty hefty emotional scars which only start to heal as they grow closer. Through a good bit of snark, and a whole lot of sexy times, the two come through their darkest moments to find love. This is one of my favorites in the series so far. The push and pull between the characters, the love hate relationship, the internal battles, all will have you staying up well past your bedtime.
I was grateful to receive a ARC of this amazing book. This series has keep me so intrigued from the first book. I love how the characters are entwined but still carry their own stories. Corey & Taran's story is one I was up until 1:15am finishing because every page made you want more & more. I love the fact that one my favorite video games was mentioned in the book. It made me feel even more connected to Taran. If you are thinking of reading this book DO IT! Corey & Taran are a couple you don't want to miss out on.
Taran & Corey’s story is so good! I absolutely loved how it showcases the struggles they each went through and how they worked through them to get to their happily ever after. The epilogue was so sweet!
I have been waiting for Corey's story since we met him in the first book! I always wanted him to get his happily ever after. Because man had he been through it!! Rough roads bring you to the greatest destinations. And boy do Corey & Taran travel the bumpiest roads in life to get their happily ever afters. We get a glimpse into Corey in Beth's book. We find out his upbringing wasn't so great and also get a little insight as to why he is so against media. However this book is obviously a deep dive into Corey! Trust is hard to come by for him. Especially when it comes to anyone in the media world. He has the Evanses, Beth & Marc, His Legal Team and his close teammates. But that's about it on that list. And Trusting Taran is a hard pill to swallow for him. But she becomes intertwined in his life and he slowly begins to let his guard down little by little, let's her in and ultimately falls for her. Taran has her own set of battle wounds from her past. And has been running from her truth. She lost her fiancé in Syria. While she was there writing a piece. She's struggling and refusing to see the signs of her own struggle and ultimately PTSD.
This book has the ups and downs. The drama. It's an enemies to lovers. Or maybe even frenemies to lovers. It's a love after loss. And I think in this sense it works for both of them. Although Corey didn't loose his first love in the way Taran did, he did loose his chance with Beth with the media blowout. At one point he saw forever with her. This series from the beginning has always been about family. And family isn't always blood. It's the people stepping up around you to love you no matter what. The bones of this book is really Trust. Learning to trust. Wanting to be trusted. Earning trust. Loosing trust. And building it back up again. And Trusting the person you love most to tell your story in a way that is real and raw but still allows you your sense of privacy.
More Than a Story was my favorite book of this series! It sucked you in and kept you engaged. I couldn't put it down. Note to readers of this book, dont start at 9pm and expect to sleep anytime soon! I had to finish this book. I have a serious case of "need to know" when I find an amazing book! This is one of those! I'm so glad Corey got his HEA!! Ive been rooting for him since the beginning. Taran got her story, but most importantly she got the man behind the story and in the end that was more! & that epilogue the PERFECT ending!!!
*Hot but Closed-off Grumpy Baseball Player who keeps his circle small and has trust issues **Tiny guarded reporter with the feistiness and fire to level a man! **Steam, Snark & Banter for days! **Two main characters you will absolutely fall in love with! **Sports Romance/Small Town Romance
But could also say... **Enemies to Lovers? Frenemies to lovers? **Forced Proximity? **Love after loss/Second Chance Romance?
But you can def say... **IT'S A REALLY GOOD READ!!!
More Than a Story by @jennibarabooks is book For in the Becoming an Evan's Series and releases May 24th!!!
It is def my favorite of the 4 books with Book 1 More Than a Game very closely behind! And I'd say it's another 5 star read!! Jenni Bara with another *knock out of the park*. Although it can be read as a stand-alone I def recommend reading the whole series because it's just that good!
He is one of the most popular pitchers in major league baseball and extremely guarded about his private life. She is a journalist who writes for some of the biggest names in sports and has been given the challenge to find a way to get the white whale of athletes to give her a chance.
Taran may be short but she has a big personality. Her tenacity sets her apart from many in her field but her style as a journalist is extremely respectful and encouraging. When her boss challenges her to get some bigger names on her roster, she unknowingly puts herself in a position to get two at once in the name of blackmail.
Corey Matthews is the Captain America of baseball. His famous parents had Corey as a household name while Corey was still a child. Growing up in the spotlight was less than ideal especially since he struggled to have a healthy relationship with his problematic parents. But young Corey found solace with his best friend's family the Evans. Corey is delighted to be considered a brother in the big chaotic Evans family despite not being related by blood. When a misunderstanding in college causes his personal and professional life to implode, there isn't enough damage control to make Corey's life easier. In the years since, Corey has been controlling and paranoid about the media invading his very private life. So when he unknowingly gets himself into a complicated situation with a snarky, pretty journalist, he is unsure how to proceed.
Usually Corey is all charm and smiles when he is interested in a woman. But Taran brings out the worst side of him. He just wants to poke her to see what reaction she will have. Taran is aware that Corey is extremely private with the media which he lumps her in with the enemy. But the chemistry between them is undeniable. As Taran does her best to hide the trauma from her past, she can't help but notice how many ways Corey's life interlocks with hers due to mutual friends on different levels. Once Corey admits to himself that he can't get enough of Taran, he finds himself opening up to trust and the courage to bring more of his life to the public eye. For Taran, she knows Corey has the power to unlock emotions in her she buried long ago. She just hopes she doesn't hurt Corey somewhere along the way.
Dual POV, haters to lovers, open door love scenes.
I was so excited for Corey's story! Reading him as a secondary character in the Evans family was fun. But having him as the MMC was lovely. (I mentally pictured him as blonde Chris Evans and you can too). Taran is a fun, layered character. I loved the surprise connection she had with the family. It was interesting to see how her trauma looked different from other people's. Both her and Corey have great character arcs. Corey is a bit of a hot mess getting his act together to pursue Taran. His quick temper and smart mouth had me frustrated on Taran's behalf. But like most big hearted heroes it's all just a facade. Once she sees Corey's heart it's all the difference in the world. Great HEA and spectacular Epilogue.
More Than a Story is the fourth book in Jenni Bara's Becoming an Evans series and this just might be my favourite one yet. The storyline is gripping, well written and such a joy to read that you do not want to put it down. I kept wanting to turn the page and read more about Taran and Corey but I was at the end of the book before I knew it. There was heartache and laughs but the chemistry that was between Taran and Corey was what has you so intrigued with them and the story of their love for one another. Sports romance is one trope that I thoroughly love reading as the plot can go so many different ways. Ms. Bara did an outstanding job of giving us a story that you will want to re-read and not just once.
Taran had her heart shattered when she was an intern for the Associated Press and has not had a relationship since. She keeps her heart guarded and only has time for her career. She now is a sports reporter and she has to prove herself and wants to be taken seriously. Her boss wants her to get an interview with the famous Corey Mathews but she knows that is going to be impossible as he keeps his life very private. Corey avoids reports outside of the stadium because of his history with them and the hurt that they cause between him and Beth. When he thinks that she overheard a conversation with Clayton Evans, he ends ups agreeing to get her an interview with Clayton, little does he know that she really wants to interview him. The interactions between the two of them are not that of friends but of two people that just need to get through this. However, they do find one another attractive and feelings do develop, but will they open their hearts to one another. Can Corey learn to trust Tarana and will Taran let her heart love again? When the truth comes out about why they both guard their hearts, will this bring them closer together? When Corey thinks she is not who she says, will he ruin the only good thing that has happened to him in a long time? Can Taran get Corey to listen to the truth or will she just let him believe what he wants?
I wanted to grab Corey by the shoulders and give him a shake and tell him that he needs to trust people and give them a chance before he jumps to conclusions. Taran was one character that although came across as strong, she just needed someone to show her that she was amazing and she can be loved and share her love. To see a character that was not a male have PTSD was a first for me and I thank Ms. Bara for the sensitivity that was used in writing about her and what she went through.
Although this is a standalone, I do suggest picking up the first three books as well and a cozy spot to read because as soon as you start reading, you will want to binge the entire series.
These Evanses--and those who have "become" Evanses--are #familygoals. Seriously, when this author puts 2 or more of them on the page (in person, text, or phone form, doesn't matter which) poof! it's awesome sauce. Truly. Be careful about reading in public, though, because snort laughing *may* often result. You have been warned.
There was a lot of push and pull going on between these two--beyond the sports "gossip" reporter/athlete dynamic, they both had major issues in their past that affected not only most of their relationships but also specifically *this* relationship. For Corey that meant the fear of betrayal was strong and he jumped to conclusions more than once, while Taran spent a good chunk of the book steadily moving toward an emotional cliff that she was too numb to even know was there. Their dark moment felt inevitable, but it also made their reconciliation all the more sweet.
And OMG, it was so sweet! Absolutely made my day :)
And can I just say--I absolutely loved that Corey wasn't at all threatened by Taran's prior relationship--that was wonderful. In so many stories where one character had a positive romantic experience before, the new romantic interest has at least a little bit of oh, they're still in love with *them,* they'll always love *them* and that's as it should be, but... or I know they like me a lot, but I can *never* be to them what they were kind of thing, but Corey's 100% good with it, and OMG I am so here for that attitude.
Which is how we get to the very last page, which made me cry. And that's all I'm gonna say about that--you'll have to read it yourself and see ;)
More Than a Story *could* be read as a standalone, technically--though to really understand Taran's backstory, it's best to have read Nick's story first (More Than a Hero). While you're adding to your TBR anyway, there's only 2 books before that one, so do yourself a favor and read all 4. You can thank me later ;)
Rating: 4 1/2 stars / A
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
This was my first time reading anything by Jenni Bara and I fell in love with these characters! I will definitely be working on this series now. The book was a little slow to start at first but the tension between Corey and Taran made me want to plow through the book. I finished it in two days…I always enjoy stories where the man has feelings but doesn’t want to recognize them, and Corey, at points, made me want to yell as he battled himself over Taran. Their relationship is much more relatable (other than him being a pro athlete) than other series I've read which made me want to connect more with this book. Honestly, I saw a lot of my own previous relationship in these two. Another big selling point for me on giving this a 5 star rating is that there is discussion of PTSD as well as dyslexia. Often, adults get overlooked and are told to stamp down feelings and Bara made sure to address these issues appropriately.
In terms of spice, there are a few sexy scenes (extremely well written and convincing), but it’s not the main focal point of the story which was enjoyable. They were put at the right time, not allowing the characters to just hop right in without trying to get to know one another. I’m always appreciative of books that can hold off on this aspect especially when developing characters! Just the right mix for Taran and Corey. You’ll love this one so make sure to pick it up if you enjoy heartwarming romance with just a hint of sass!
Why I like this book:
Relatable relationship Fun and playful with just a bit of rough edges Super fast read
This is book 4 in the Becoming an Evans series. It is the first one I’ve read but definitely going back to read the first three especially if they are as good as this one.
Corey has had several horrible experiences with the media growing up. Those experiences make him want nothing more then to keep his private life 100% out of the media which is almost impossible bring a professional baseball player. He’s at a loss when the spunky beautiful reporter Taran comes pushing her way into his life.
Taran is a reporter for Sports Illustrated and also close friends with Corey’s agent and family. Taran experienced a heartbreaking tragedy a few years ago that made her change not only the type of reporter she was but who she is as a person as well. She makes decisions that prevent her from being hurt again.
Unfortunately the one thing Taran needs from Corey could ruin any chance at a relationship. They both have hard decisions to make and obstacles to overcome but I loved the relationship they develop while working through those issues. The chemistry they have is amazing! It is a bit of an enemies to lovers story but I honestly felt like they were never truly enemies. I think they argued more as a way to protect themselves from admitting to their feelings for each other.
I loved all the side characters in this book as well. Rather they were blood relatives or friends they all considered themselves family. Made an amazing book even better ♥️
Thank you so much @jennibarabooks for my ARC of this amazing book!
Jenni Bara's Becoming an Evans series just keeps getting better and better. Each book in this series brings something new to light. This book had so much going for it. The Evans family dynamic is close knit, and they look out for each other. Cory Matthews came into the family at a young age. Being a pawn between his real parents caused alot of trauma for him. He absolutely does not like the press, because he was constantly thrown into the spotlight. A past ordeal with Beth that went public has Cory never wanting to talk about his personal life. Taran knows heartache of her own, but she just wants to be taken seriously as a reporter. She knows first hand how it is harder for women in her line of work, and she it out to prove herself. Taran's boss is down her throat to get Cory to do a story, but she just needs him to trust her. Both Cory and Taran immediately find each other attracted to the other, but can they get over their pasts to open their hearts to love? Jenni Bara writes so much passion into each one of her books. Whether it be the passion of how the Evans family protects and supports each other, or the passion and chemistry between the two people falling in love in each book. It's not just about the falling in love, or the steamy scenes, though. Each main character in each book has some sort of struggle or internal issue they must overcome in order to have the happiness they truly deserve.
“Tell me I’m not alone in this, chipmunk.” “You’re not.”
Jenni Bara knows how to weave different storylines together and make them cohesive and relatable. Her Becoming an Evans series is about the Evans family. Each book focuses on a different member of the family and their relationships; love, friendship, and family. There is no one definition of family; they come in many forms. It doesn’t always mean related by blood, but rather the people who are there for you no matter what and love you unconditionally.
More Than a Story is about Corey and Taran. They are not new characters. They were introduced in earlier books in the series. Although you don’t have to read the books in order, I suggest you do so to enjoy the Evans family fully. Even though Corey is not an Evans by birth, he is an honorary Evans. They view him as one of them. It took me a bit to realize that we had met Taran before. All the characters in the series are connected in one way or another. It makes it feel like it’s a small world. What are the chances with the number of people in the world? But the connections and how it all plays out make the stories more interesting. Corey and Taran’s relationship was interesting; I enjoyed the banter and how they understood one another.
As soon as the ARC (advanced reader’s copy) of More Than a Story came out, I wanted to read it. But I had another book to finish and wanted to have my full attention on it. Me being me, I was impatient and started it at 1 AM, fully knowing that I wouldn’t go to sleep until I read about half of it. I picked up where I left off as soon as I opened my eyes, wanting to know what would happen next. I was so captivated by the story that I finished it in one day!
More Than a Story was an emotional roller coaster for me. I knew that it was 5 stars for me, about 30% into reading. There were a lot of emotions for me during the first half. But, by the time I finished, it didn’t disappoint! I loved More Than a Story. Honestly, if a book made me cry, I’m likely to give it a higher rating. The only thing I didn’t like was the miscommunication. I don’t like the miscommunication trope as a whole. I understand that it makes it realistic, and there is a time and a place for it, and it works if done well, but it tends to erks me the majority of the time I come across it.
I can’t wait for the next installment of the Becoming an Evans series with More Than Myself in November 2022.
4.5 stars! Corey is used to the spotlight, as a Major League Baseball star, but also from growing up with famous parents. As a result, he is fiercely protective of his privacy, and the last thing he wants is a sports gossip reporter hanging around everywhere he goes. Especially when he’s as attracted to her as he is to Taran. And while Taran wants to get the story for her boss, she’s only willing to go so far, doing her best to respect privacy when it’s requested. But when she finds a way to infiltrate Corey’s inner circle, she definitely jumps at the opportunity.
Corey may not be an Evans by name or blood, but he is most definitely an Evans in every other way possible, even if he doesn’t even fully accept or believe it sometimes. And interestingly enough, Taran has a connection to the Evans as well, one that is unexpected and adds a whole extra layer of depth to their dynamic. Corey and Taran have great chemistry, even though they outwardly seems to drive each other crazy, on the inside they can’t stop thinking of each other. And while Corey has to work to overcome his inclination not to trust, Taran has her own demons to overcome, but first she has to accept that she even has them.
This story is a sweet, fun, heartbreaking, heartwarming, and a whole lot of sexy. I loved not only the dynamic between Corey and Taran, but also, as will all the Becoming an Evans books, just the entire family dynamic. There is so much love and support, and the banter and playfulness is top notch. I very much enjoyed this book, and look forward to the continuation of the series!
A captivating Enemy-to-Lovers story bringing you Corey and Taran. Their story is a good one! She’s a sassy reporter trying to do her job. He’s a baseball pitcher trying to stay out of the limelight. When they crash into each other’s life there is chaos and magic! Growing up with famous parents and experiencing the negative effects of the media, Corey has a very strong dislike for reporters. They simply cannot be trusted. Early on in his career, he’s found ways to avoid the spotlight and narration. Unfortunately, some reporters will do whatever it takes to get the story…specifically, his story. Taran may be short, sassy, and spunky. But she has a way with words. She’s not a normal reporter who writes about superficial things on her subject. Instead, she observes from a distance and uncovers the little details and true persona of her current feature. When Corey Matthews signs a contract to be her next feature without knowing, she has to make decision – betray his trust or write the story. Taran and Corey are such strong characters. I loved the banter between them, and other Evanses. They had me laughing out loud, rolling my eyes, and in some chapters teary eyed. Book 4 is a standalone, but it’s so wonderful when characters from the previous book make an appearance. They definitely add to the characters development. Can’t wait for Book 5.
Jenni Bara has stolen my heart once again with her flawless writing and her incredible characters. This author has become a 1-click for me because she doesn't shy away from tough topics (in this case PTSD and abandonment) and her writing has so much passion and depth.
I loved everything about this book--from the way Taran and Corey are both so closed off and untrusting of each other at first to the way they slowly give in to that attraction to each other. They both needed each other so much, they just didn't know it. Also, can I just say, that first kiss. . .the one every reader wait for? Oh my goodness! It was swoony and unexpected and perfect and so hot! I loved it so much, I re-read that scene a few times. And the steamy scenes? Lava hot!
One of my favorite scenes in the book--and this isn't a huge scene but I just loved it--was when Corey dragged Taran to sit on his lap when they were at the Evan's house. Gosh, I actually had butterflies.
An epic romance that I'll be recommending to everyone!
This book was amazing, Corey is definitely an Evans (wink emoji). Ok this story has everything, you are going to fall for both of them instantly. Their first kiss was EPIC, like really really epic!!! The Evanses are the best family ever. I love how Corey is part of them, not just a long time friend, a really part of their family. I love all the nicknames he tried on Taran’s, all of them lol. Taran and Corey connected in so many ways, they are the perfect couple since the beginning and all his brothers knows that. Those Evanses are so smart. Some parts of this story were really emotional that I need to write the author to vent a little. At some point I was really nervous reading because I didn’t want them to break up and crush my heart!!! And as I suspected that moment breaks my heart in millions pieces, for both of them. Thankfully at the end the both made a grand gesture and their HEA is so sweet and perfect. Can’t wait for more Evanses stories. Congratulations on this five star reading.
I had been waiting for this story since More Than the Game. Corey captured my heart immediately and I wanted so much more of him! His story was so much more than I was anticipating. While the chemistry between Corey and Taran was instantaneous, they both come with complicated pasts and reputations to uphold, making diving into a relationship a struggle. But it's not long before the heat and desire between them becomes too much to ignore. Of course, nothing is easy as Corey navigates through trust issues while Taran grapples with the pain of her past. I love how this story weaved so many little threads together to create a beautiful and emotional love story that felt realistic and kept me engaged—I truly didn't want this one to end! And I'm already excited to see which Evans brother I get to fall in love with next!
I never thought I would be really into sports romance until this book!
@jennibarabooks created a world of press-jaded hot shot athletes and anything for the story reporters and made them fall in love and now I want to read ALL the sports romance books!!
It’s an adorable opposites attract/enemies to lovers novel with just the right amount of spice.
While the beginning was difficult if you’re sensitive to seemingly unjustified nastiness between the main characters, overall the story itself and their growth individually and together was very well done.
This is the 4th book of the series, but since they can all be read as stand alones, I would definitely recommend this one if you’re in the mood for a quick paced sporty romance to add some spark to your day 🤍
I love me a sports romance. This is the fourth book in the series. This is Corey’s and Taran story and oh boy is it good. We got to meet Corey back on More Than the Game and know a bit about him and why he though the way he thought about reporters and media so we understand his dislike of Taran and her profesional standing. We also get to know how he was raised and what he went through so if anyone deserves a happy ending it’s him so I have been rooting for him since book one. I loved him and Taran together but hated that they had to go through such a bumpy road to get to the good part. Corey is definitely my favorite there I said it. I highly recommend this book.
Corey, the very private baseball player, and Taran, the sassy sports reporter, could not have been more perfect for each other. I love Tarzan’s spunk and how she had a comeback for everything. I loved that even though Corey was hesitant about her job, he still knew what he wanted and went after it. He comes off as a jerk sometimes but I truly think it well described that men simply don’t get women. Their insecurities are laid bare for us to see and Jenni gloriously put them together so that they could heal one another. Trust is hard for a lot of people but these two individuals especially had their struggles. I loved the support from the Evanses, Corey’s true family, and all their brotherly banter. I’m very excited for the next Evans brother!
This book was fun from start to finish… I love Taran and Corey’s banter… every time I was shocked what came out of Corey’s mouth I loved our girl Taran didn’t let him get away with it. This was my first story by Jenni Bara and I loved the relationship with all the other characters, I can’t wait to go back and read the rest of the series. This was a feel good sports romance with a good enemies to lovers banter that had me enjoying every page. I devoured it in less than one day!
Another solid read from Jenni! I love her world building, getting to know the Evans' and all their surrounding friends and found family - it was also great to get some of those moments where a character from a previous book (like Nick or Seabass) pop back up and you have that long lost friend moment that just adds to the realism of the book.
Taran is a well-developed character with her ups and downs, but the trauma she's experienced is both unique and heartwrenching enough to keep you invested in their relationship and her growth.
I have been in love with the Evan's family, specifically the men, since Jenni first released book 1. I've never been disappointed with a story, and this book is no different! I love Taran and Corey's relationship, I love how real both of the characters feel. Their ups and downs made me want to continue reading to know what was going to happen next, and the HEA at the end was so worth everything they both went through!
This book was amazing. The pull emotionally for characters was incredible. I made such a connection with both main characters and found their story lines so amazing both as individuals and as a couple. What they both went through and were still going through, how they needed to work on themselves and then as a couple really connected with me and was that extra cherry on top. This was my first Jenni Bara novel and after this I am reading them all!
