Silent Chaos

Braxton

Our senior year, I promised my girl forever.

Forever, as it turned out, wasn't enough. She told me so in her actions. When she took a match to my life, burning it to ash.

I headed to LA with my band—Raging Chaos—like we always planned, while Kaylee went to college, taking my damaged heart with her.

This was where our story was supposed to end.

Only six years later, our lives collide again.

Kaylee is the only thing I ever loved more than music, and I wish I could hate her for it, but the line between love and hate is thin, and often straddled.

And the thing about collisions? They result in deadly debris.

Kaylee

When you love someone, you let them go. But what I did was so much worse.

Because instead of pushing him away, I shoved Braxton straight over the edge.

I’ve spent the past several years avoiding him, trying to make things right.

When my reputation has been dragged through the mud, and I’m given the opportunity to clean it up, I have no choice but to cross paths with him again.

Being around Braxton is a harsh reminder of the way I lit his life up in flames, but I'm not sure he knows I've been burned, too.

If suffering in silence is the cost, I'll pay the price to make things right.

I just hope our history won’t play on repeat and he’ll see me as more than the stupid girl with the lit match.

OH THE ANGST! The Love and Lyrics series continues with my most anticipated couple in this emotional, gripping, roller coaster of a second chance love story. Nikki continues to deliver drama, swoons, and soul with this rockstar series. Needless to say, the broken but dreamy men of Raging Chaos have captured my heart, and I’m loving seeing these imperfect heroes find their HEAs after so many tribulations.

Like Controlled Chaos, Silent Chaos takes us back in time- to the same catalyzing series of traumatic moments that indelibly shaped young men and hopeful rockstars. While a central trauma united them all, each of them had their own hardships, both in the past and the present, and I was so excited to dig into what I knew would be a messy and gut-wrenching story between Braxton and Kaylee, once hopeless in love high school sweethearts now estranged after Kaylee’s heartbreaking mistake the night that this group forever changed. Heed the trigger warnings Nikki provides- the more I get into the series the more it deals with messy and potentially triggering topics. Loss, trauma, assault, abandonment, deep deceit, cheating, addiction. And for anyone who read the first story, you already know just what broke this couple up- and you already know it’s a topic some won’t read.

Because of the second chance, hate-to-love dynamic this certainly felt different than book one and Nikki’s usual vibe. Braxton is bitter and angry, and at times intentionally cruel. This is no swoony book boyfriend, though it’s clear to us that he has lingering longing for the love he had with Kaylee. Kaylee is also a bit broken- continually manipulated and hurt by the men around her while also wracked with guilt by hurting the one man who protected and loved her years ago. There is so much friction and tension between them, but Nikki ensures they show up for each other when it matters most. She breathes new, mature life into their relationship as they figure each other out as adults, even if the road is really rocky.

The chemistry is tense and angsty, but ultimately when important revelations come out, we get more to the type of Nikki hero I enjoy most- broken but dreamy, edgy but hopelessly devoted. I wished we’d gotten there a bit more with Brax, and we had a bit more grovel. I did love seeing them in the past though, since it established Brax for the type of man he could be, so we had that frame for the future. A lot happens at the end of this book, and I did feel the ending to be a bit glossed over and wanted a bit more time for them to deal with the impacts of this, particularly on Kaylee (it seemed more focused on Braxton and his growth in trust, which was also important). I adored Kaylee and really felt for all she goes through- and I’m glad to see Braxton grow up in how he deals with their issues..

I’m loving this series- it certainly has more pain and sadness than Nikki’s last few, and it’s great fodder for the chaos of heartbreak and pain to break apart and pull people together. If the epilogue is any indication, the next book is going to be a really hearthurter - this is a story I’ve been anticipating because I know it’s going to be a hard one, and I can’t wait to see this rocker heal.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 (ARC Review)

Safety gang:
- Mention of drugs and alcohol abuse
- Mention of d*ath and su*cide
- Mention of physical abuse
- OM/OW drama
- Child abandonment
- S*xual assault/s*xual harassment
- Depression
- HEA

When I finished Controlled Chaos I needed to get my hands on silent chaos as soon as possible and I was lucky enough to get an arc!

Braxton and Kaylees story was one that I knew would hurt along with Gage’s.

We find out in the previous book that Kaylee cheated on Braxton during their graduation party which caused them to break up and live a life separate from each other for 6 years.

Kaylee gets a job as the PR for band and this causes the massive tension between the two. Braxton hates her and yet still loves her. He wants to make her life hell and punish her. She doesn’t blame him and honestly it went overboard sometimes and even the guys felt the same.

We find out about the events that led to the graduation party and why they happened. What caused Kaylee to do it? It’s not good. So much more is revealed and it just was such a roller coaster before these two got their happy ending.

One thing I wanted was more of a grovel from Braxton after certain things happened. He needed to beg more and I felt like he was forgiven too easily.

We also got to see more of the previous couple as well as Declan and his constant yearning for Kendall and of course the broken and destroyed Gage.

That epilogue ending was heartbreaking - my heart hurts for him. He deserves to finally be at peace with what happened but he chases the numbness instead.

I loved Kaylee and Braxton sm!

They were high school sweethearts but just after graduation, Kaylee cheated on Brax so she went off to college and he went to LA with his band.

Years later, when Kaylee’s hired as the band’s PR manager in a pinch, Braxton’s forced to face that the past might not be what he thought and that his old feelings might still be around.

This is a darker series so please check warnings but I loved this one. Lots of angst and they really had to learn to trust each other again but definitely a book that sometimes proves your first love is the one you’re meant for.

Story: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ (4.5)
Trope: Second chance, rockstar
Angst: 😱😱😱😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥🔥

Completely loving this series by Nikki Ash, but I knew Kaylee and Braxton's story was going to be a doozy, hitting the upper level of my angstometer, lol. Tons of OW drama 🙈, because there's revenge to be had in Braxton's eyes. This is definitely no walk in the park second chance, but there's secrets to unfold and trust to regain. Silent Chaos is well written, moves quickly, and is told in both the past and the present. Absolutely wonderful to see Kaylee and Braxton get the happy ending they deserved!

Silent Chaos was the hate to love romance between Braxton and Kaylee that I'd been waiting for! If you read the first book in the series (Controlled Chaos), you saw that Braxton and Kaylee, high school sweethearts, broke up at the end of high school because she apparently cheated on him and pictures were posted on social media. Braxton left town with his band and they didn't see each other for years. Fast forward, and Braxton's band is famous and he drowns his sorrows in women and booze, while Kaylee's marketing/PR career is off to a rocky start. Braxton's band needs a PR person because they run off each person hired. Because Kaylee is a friend of some of the band members, Kaylee is hired, much to Braxton's shock and surprise. Because the band is on tour, their hate and animosity towards each other festers in forced proximity as they travel different cities.

I loved how much these two loved each other. The author set up their relationship really well in the beginning, so when it fell apart, you felt how devastated Braxton was. No matter how much time passed, Braxton and Kaylee have never stopped loving each other. It takes them a minute to get their heads out of their asses but once they do, they have to learn how to communicate and get over their past hurts. The author definitely had a few plot twists up her sleeve that I didn't see coming, which definitely made Braxton and Kaylee's reunion that much sweeter.

If you want a good hate to lovers, second chance rockstar romance, Silent Chaos definitely fits the bill. If you want to read about more of the band members, start with the first book, Controlled Chaos (Camden and Layla's story).

TROPES: hate to love; second chance; rockstar; forced proximity

TRIGGER WARNINGS: heroine is given a date-rape drug (no sexual assault takes place); mention of teen death - These trigger warnings are listed on the author's website.

First off, I really want to read Gage's book. I want to know who he ends up with especially since his high school sweetheart died and the theme of this series is second chance/first love/getting together with the person you were in love with in high school. I mean we all know Declan is gonna end up with Kendall but I am so curious about Gage.

Second. OW Drama. Braxton was and is a manwhore. Since he and Kaylee broke up, he has slept multiple women, many at the same time. Yes, what Kaylee did six years ago was wrong, it caused their break up and really hurt Braxton. I get it. I don't blame him for sleeping with other girls while he and Kaylee broke up. In the words of Meredith Grey "I make no apologizes for how I chose to repair what you broke." I had a chill attitude until I read that he hasn't been able to climax since he saw the FMC months ago but that doesn't stop him from trying. I felt like this was somehow supposed to be a selling point? like "he still sleeps with other women but he can't climax because she is always on his mind! Isn't it romantic?". No, its not. Instead it gave me the ick because it gave me " he has sex with other girls but thinks about while doing it so its justified" vibes. Not to mention he still sleeps with other girls while they are on tour together. In fact, at one point he asks her to get him some condoms and lube so he can sleep with OTHER girls. Another time, he and gage are with groupies playing never have I ever and he specifically calls her to get them more liquor to play and lastly he brings a date to the awards show who treats the fmc like shit after he treats her like shit. I can't even. However this is just glossed over when the fmc finds out he never actually fucked anyone since the tour started and somehow that makes everything okay. ITS NOT OKAY. He still kissed them, he still invited them to his hotel room, he still got naked with them or intended to! It doesn't make any difference to me whether he actually fucked them or not. His only saving grace is that he didn't sleep with anyone after he and the fmc slept together.

Third and most importantly: I am sick of Kaylee's whole martyr complex. To put it simply, Braxton treats her like shit during the first half of the tour: asking her to get condoms, lube and liquor for his groupies because he knows it will hurt her. Insulting her and their past relationship all the time, calling their tattoo and relationship a mistake and his being a general asshole. And the whole time, Kaylee is defending him and blaming herself! She keeps saying that this whole thing is her fault and making excuses for his behavior. Going so far as to just let him make all the decisions regarding their relationship status. Even after they sleep together, she doesn't expect anything from him. DOES THIS WOMAN HAVE ZERO SELF REPECT!? I had a hard time shipping this couple because I couldn't get over how he treated her in the beginning. His whole stick about always loving her and feeling too much was hard for me to believe because I don't believe you treat the person you love like this ever, even when they hate you. I hated how all his actions were getting swept under the rug since apparently everything is Kaylee's fault. Nah huh, nope.

“We fight.” I lock eyes with her. “We fight for each other because we love each other. And we’ll get through this.”

I wanted to love this book, but the MMC kept pissing me off! Books with a lot of miscommunication just aren't my thing.

My heart broke so many times for Kaylee. She deserved so much better. She truly thought she was doing the best so many times, and continuously, her life was derailed.

But I'm so glad that ultimately, the MMC got his shit together and stood up for them! And they both fought for each other!

⭐️ 4.5 "Love Hurts" Stars ⭐️
I couldn't wait to read Silent Chaos as soon as I was finished with Controlled Chaos. There was just something about Kaylee and Braxton's story that made me eager for all the angst. Their second chance romance wasn't a walk in the park with all the ups and downs, but this couple was certainly meant to be.

Years after Kaylee's betrayal, Braxton is still bitter about the ending of their relationship. When the young woman is sent on tour with his band as their new publicist, there's so much tension between these two, but it's also the occasion to mend their broken hearts.

I really enjoyed Brax, despite his playboy and cruel ways at first. It was clear that Kaylee broke him so badly and he was only trying to numb the pain six years later. She was his forever girl after all. It was nice to see that he wasn't completely lost and was still hiding a beautiful heart. I liked seeing him so protective and sweet with Kaylee. Those moments had me swooning. Kaylee was also an interesting heroine. She knew her past mistakes were unforgivable and owned them. She was selfless and only wanted the best for the guy she still loved.

Their reunion was a whirldwind! The sexy times between them were combustible, but the feels they delivered was utterly beautiful. From enemies to lovers, their second chance at love was mesmerizing and gave me chills.

The other members of the band also made this read so entertaining. Let's say that seeing Cam and Layla building their life together was so sweet. Declan and Gage are going to kill me with their upcoming stories! The Love & Lyrics Series is truly so good and I want more ASAP!

I have been waiting for this series a long time and the wait for each instalment is unbearable. The moment I finished Controlled Chaos I was already on pins and needles for this one. In the first book, we get a glimpse of the single day that would shape up most of these stories, and that tease lives rent free in my mind, making me crave those stories.

With Camden's HEA, it's time for Braxton to face his past and fight for his future. Six years after Kaylee's betrayal, the hurt is still evident and Braxton is just tying to numb the pain and memories. Kaylee's actions that single day set her up for years of struggle. Needing a lifeline, Kaylee is hired as the PR for Raging Chaos' tour, meaning that a reunion is inevitable and the tour might just become a war zone with that much tension and unanswered questions still festering.

I really liked the characters and the premise was amazing, but for me the side characters and their dramas grabbed my attention more. That might be because form the beginning, I wanted Gabe's story the most and after this book, Declan is close second.

Nonetheless, the writing was on point, the angst - oh so delicious, and Braxton was so sweet and protective and simply a cinnamon roll when you moved past his initial cruel demeanor. Kaylee was a fighter through and through, and I loved how she owned up to her mistakes and how she fought for Braxton. Their connection was palpable and their bow-chica-wow-wow times were off the charts scorching hot.

I don't think I am ready for what's to come after the events of the last page. I know Declan and more importantly Gage are going to destroy me, but call me a masochist and give me hose boys' stories ASAP!

Braxton and Kaylee's story was everything... what a beautiful and heartfelt journey!

This one certainly packed a punch, the pain felt from both the characters was palpable and Nikki did such a great job at fully immersing us into this world once again.

There were a few twists I wasn't expecting, plenty of drama, amazing secondary characters, angst, heartbreak, and love and I was SO happy these two were able to get their happily ever after. Another great instalment from Nikki, and I can't wait to read more from this world.

Under His Skin

Nikki Ash Love and Lyrics Collection

The angst gives a kick in the pants almost immediately. Braxton "Brax" Lutz and Kaylee "Crazy" Thomas have a tumultuous past that's put front and center on multiple occasions. We were first introduced to some of the misguided teenager BS in book one. I knew there was a lot more to the story, and I wasn't wrong.

Many of the twists are expected, but not all of them. There are some dark elements and substance abuse, but I found this to be lighter than Controlled Chaos.

It was mostly easy to get into their story, but both of them acted like idiots in a couple of occasions. Even so, once I started, I didn't want to stop.

This is a standalone. The early chapters overlap the early part of the timeline of book one before fast forwarding and picking up where Controlled Chaos ends.

I listened to this as part of the Love & Lyrics audio boxset. The narrators are Avery Reid and Gideon Frost. I'm pretty sure this was my first time with both of them (man, that sounds dirty!), and I liked them both. 🤣

Now, it's time for the next one! This ended in a bit of a cliffhanger in the epilogue, so I need to get at it. LATER! 😘

Story: 4 stars
Narration: 4 stars

Awesome Rock Romance

If you want your heart pull out and then stomped on a few times this book sure has that and more. A true indication of a great writer is when you “feel” what they write and Ms. Ash had a tight squeeze on my heart throughout. With all the emotional distress that Braxton had went through by the time he finished high school would bring most people to their knees. His high school love was to be for eternity until pictures showed up helping him make the decision as far as moving with his band mates to LA to make their dreams come true as being a great rock band.

Now years later that same woman who had crushed him was back in his life going on tour with his band Controlled Chaos. To say things were intense was putting it mildly from intense hate to intense love. This book played at my emotions nonstop. There were surprising secrets that came out made this a huge page turner for me. I can’t recommend this book highly enough as well as this series and now I can’t’ wait to read the next book in this series.

Talk about a Second Chance, Forced Proximity, Hate to Lovers, High School Sweethearts, Rock Star romance written to wrap you up in it's world and keep you until the end.

I absolutely loved Braxton and Kaylee's story. Nikki Ash wrote this as an incredibly beautiful, yet heartbreaking story. I tend to find little life lessons in most of Nikki Ash's work. Silent Chaos was no different. The big message in this story is the importance of open and honest communication.

This story got me completely wrapped up in my feels. I laughed, I cried, I......well, I probably shouldn't say somethings in a review. This book has some heated arguments, some incredibly cruel moments, and some scenes that are so hot you might need to take a cold shower after reading them.

Nikki Ash is one author that I know will always give me a great romance, with incredible casts, and happy endings. I can't wait for the next Love and Lyrics book.

Did I read 2 Nikki ash books in less than 12 hours? Yes, yes I did.

Did not realize only 2 of the series are done.

Anyway this one wasn’t as good as book 1, still really good, and I enjoyed seeing the rest of the characters from book 1 and how their lives are playing out. But I just didn’t like kaylee as much as the other female mc. Kaylee was quite whiney and tbh she gave him WAY too many chances.

However, it’s rated higher than book 1 so apparently y’all don’t agree with me on this lmao

Silent Chaos

This was Brax and Kaylee's story. We got a glimpse of their story in book 1 but it was great to get their own book from each of their perspectives.

This was an emotional and at times heart breaking. I really enjoyed this read and you also get invested in the rest of the characters in the band.

The author amps up the angst in this hate to lovers, second chance, rockstar romance. Kaylee and Braxton have a tumultuous and rocky past and present relationship. This story is heartbreak, with plenty of twists and fluctuating emotions but the hea is worth the rough ride. Another 5 stars from Nikki! I can't get enough of her books and Silent Chaos did not disappoint either.

Braxton and Kaylee’s story begins 6 years ago and we see how the two get together and fall in love. Everything is perfect until something happens that leads to their separation.

Fast forward 6 years, Kaylee is a PR who ends up getting a job in Raging Chaos, the band Braxton is in. Braxton hates her for what she did and vows to make her life a living hell. Kaylee is also suffering because she’s never been able to forget him. Eventually we find out what really happened that led to their breakup and let me tell you it was such a roller coaster.

I absolutely loved seeing Braxton and Kaylee get their second chance. It was not an easy journey, but their love was stronger than everything.

I can’t wait for the next book, I got my tissues ready 😭

Six years after breaking both their hearts, Kaylee is forced to work with Braxton's band as their publicist. After another pop star made some false allegations, Kaylee has no choice to but accept the offer from Raging Chaos because no one else in the industry will hire her. Braxton is furious that he has to see the girl that broke his heart everyday and is determined to make her life miserable. Until he something tragic happens and he is forced to realize that maybe there is a reason why he is so angry still.

Man oh man did this book put me through the ringer. I loved how this one was written - that we got to see small glimpses of their young love developing. I think that really helped set the stage for their journey. Really helped you feel all their pain and where the hate to lovers is coming from. Braxton and Kaylee do not have an easy road. It is full of emotions and twists and turns but each step of the way I was enthralled. I didn't want to put it down. I am loving this series.

There are TW so please head the warnings on the author's website.

Silent Chaos is a hard fought road to finally reach a place of forgiveness, trust, peace and love.

We begin the story six years ago and get a really good look inside at the beginning relationship of Braxton and Kaylee. How they fell in love and all those new beginning butterflies, first dates, and first moments that shaped their relationship. They had such a strong foundation, a lasting kind of love, I really did wonder if I was reading the wrong couple because I knew the end was coming and that everything was going to fall apart. I was holding my breath for that devastating moment because Nikki...darn it!! I hated to see it all shatter. The really high high made for the perfect rebuilding that this couple needed to fix.

Fast forward six years and Raging Chaos, the band formed with Braxton and his best friends, is famous and on tour and currently in need of a PR manager. While the rift between Braxton and Kaylee is huge, she went to school for this very thing and she could really use the job. While Kaylee's not thrilled to be on tour with her ex just as much as he is, being professional is her top priority. Braxton just makes her job a little harder than it should be.

Their hate to passion back to love road is not an easy or straight line. It's hard and hurtful and lots of tears between them as these two have quite a few bumps on their road and demons to face before any type of HEA can occur. It tests them to the point of wondering if they should pursue any kind of relationship, even friendship, once the tour is finished.

The close friendship with the band is special and I love to see how they are a found family, always there for one another, which also includes the Blackwood parents. It's all that love among their friends and their family that truly shines and holds everyone together, book after book and what I love returning to.

I know we are only 2 books into this series but dang if it’s not one of my most looked forward to series. Seriously. As the books progress deeper into the band members lives, the series becomes more consuming and devouring. You become more addicted to these characters and everything going on in their lives. I couldn’t help getting emotional over everything happening to them. And not just Braxton and Kaylee. All the other characters are dealing with some kind of heaviness and it just splinters you.

But with Brax and Kaylee, they have a lot of love and anger and hurt to work through. What seems easily forgivable one minute is turned back to hatred the next. It’s 6 years of emotional baggage that they have been carrying. And in the end it just becomes too much because they can’t seem to climb out of all that pain from their past.

The romance and the chemistry between both Brax and Kaylee is still front and center. That has never been their problem. What they share is an absolute inferno. Picking up where they left off they carry on with that part of their relationship just fine. All while in their blissful bubble of the tour. But when trust and doubt rear their ugly little heads, that’s when we see it all fall apart.

Great, great story that had me on an emotional roller coaster. I devoured it as much as it devoured me. And that ending. Ho-Ly heck! Completely ruined for these people. 5 Stars.

✨Second Chance
✨Rockstar
✨Emotional Pasts

This book was SO GOOD! 🔥

Braxton and Kaylee dated in high school, until one night he finds out she cheated on him. He leaves and goes on to become a famous rockstar, but years later they are forced to see each other.

Braxton hates Kaylee for what she did to him, but she still has this hold on his heart. It isn’t until one night when he overhears Kaylee telling someone what actually happened all those years ago. Braxton finally confronts Kaylee about it all and now that truth is out there, he can’t deny his feelings for her any longer.

This book was the best emotional roller coaster! I loved the tension between these two MMCs and the heartache the past caused on both of them. Seeing Braxton accept Kaylee when he finds out what she did for him was just beautiful. And even when Braxton’s dad tries to make another play in his life, he is there this time to shut it down. 🫶🏻

Hate to lovers, second chance and rockstar? I was halfway hooked before I got to the first page. But, once I started, Kaylee and Braxton’s story had me hanging on every single word.

After what went down in Controlled Chaos, Braxton understandably wanted nothing to do with Kaylee. His hate for her was strong, but the love he had for her was stronger. Despite the years and distance, his heart never got the memo to let Kaylee go. Kaylee didn’t expect to run into Braxton again after breaking his heart but life had other plans.

Their story was aptly titled because there was so much unsaid between these two that simmered below the surface. Braxton and his feelings, Kaylee’s secret from the past. The passion, tension, and emotion was palpable. Nikki ensured I didn't lack for a single feel.

Just when you thought these two were on the path to reconciliation, a shocking bomb drop once again shook up their world. Nikki really took my heart through the ringer with these two. Braxton and Kaylee powered through the roller coaster of obstacles in their path and refused to give up on the beautiful second chance they’ve been given. I loved watching them date and take the time to get to know each other again. It was just so sweet. It made me so happy to see them grow to trust each other again especially when certain circumstances rose that challenged that trust. They chose to believe in themselves and their love and I reveled in it.

Nikki Ash has delivered another deliciously angsty and compelling installment to the Love and Lyrics series.
