The Graves of Crowford Rise
The year is 1979, and Polly Gaskell thinks her life is complete. She and her husband Graham, along with their newborn son, have moved into a prestigious new estate on the outskirts of Crowford. Graham has a great job and Polly's happy looking after the baby. They're all set to join the town's social elite.
Soon, however, Polly starts to realize that something is very wrong with their new home. For one thing, strange noises in the middle of the night hint at a mysterious presence. For another, she begins to hear stories about the land beneath the house. When strange forces attack both Polly and her son, she realizes she has to escape, but she finds instead that Crowford Rise isn't quite so willing to let anyone go. What really happened when the new houses were built? What malevolent entity lurks in the shadows? And what was once buried deep below the new estate?

An enjoyable read!
A haunted house, zombies and time travel, this story had them all. Not the best of the Crowford stories but, still an enjoyable read. Greed and infidelity marked out Polly's husband as a real "bad'un" but, in the end, he really did try and step up to the mark. Unfortunately, fate and distortions in time had other ideas.

Overall, this was an entertaining read, rather gruesome, but entertaining.
It always makes me wonder when houses are built in 'modern' Britain because it's obvious that much of the land was a burial ground; so then, what troubles might be unearthed? The story takes place just as more technology is becoming available - microwaves, for example, and it was interesting to witness the reactions of the people who bought one...well, of course, there's more to it.
Graham was not a likeable character, though the others weren't too bad; not terribly well-developed but they did fit into the story.
I don't want to give spoilers but will say that I always enjoy the twists in this author's books.
Worth a look for sure - you always know something horrible will happen in Crowford.

Disappointed
I have read and enjoyed a good number of Amy's books, but this one was actually hard for me to get through. I really didn't want to finish it. The main characters, husband Graham and wife Polly, just got on my nerves. Graham is an industrial strength narcissist. Polly seems like the naive and immature type who can suddenly transform into hell on wheels. I just couldn't get into these characters. With Amy's books, I usually feel what her characters feel which draws me into the story. In this case, I couldn't be drawn into the story because it was impossible for me to tolerate Graham and Polly. Now, this is just my opinion. Please read the book yourself.

This could have been a very shocking book.
It spilt electricity.
Sparks flew and microwave ovens gave off brilliant rays of radium.
Only one person was benefiting from the rays, and he had died thousands of years ago.
Crowford Rise was a new build well away from the town of Crowford, and the young couple with a baby boy, had moved into number 33.
They were the first family on this Estate and Polly couldn't wait for more new neighbours to move in with young children, so she wouldn't feel quite so alone during the day whilst Graham was at work.

Reasonable plot but ......
The weakest of the three Crowford books I have read so far. The plot is ojay(ish) but the dialogue is stilted and the book suffers from poor research - for instance, houses in England DON'T have basements, unless they date from Victorian times or earlier . Some of the language is too American - English couples don't call each other "honey", or shout "asshole" to other people. Definitely not a classic!

I enjoyed this book! Graham was an arse but im glad polly got to be happy. The epilogue left you wondering what happens next and I love that. Sometimes cliffhangers are warranted and in this one it definitely was.

This book was very good
I found this book to be very interesting. It was different from most books that I read. I am a fan of Amy Cross and have read a number of her books. If you are a fan of Amy, this is definitely a must read.

Probably not one of the best Crowford books. The two main characters were awful and stupid, respectively, but I did like the way the suspense built from beginning to end. There were also some creepy scenes. Warning: there is a dog death, but nothing on-page or explicit.

I’ve really enjoyed reading The Ghosts of Crawford ! This book continues on with a story from the creepy seaside town.

Don’t do it

Hard to put down
Ancient cultures, dead priest, maybe a ghost who knows. A thrilling story that will keep you reading until the supriseing end.
