Hazel Thornton has one great ambition: to help the sick and wounded as a nurse. But that dream can never become a reality. After a devastating childhood trauma, she has spent her life battling fits of panic that make it impossible to finish her studies. Everything changes, however, when a trip to Spain takes a perilous turn that derails her plans to visit her father for Christmas and immediately plunges her into the dangers of a brutal war.
With single-minded focus, she springs into action to help her fellow travelers. To ensure their continued care, she begins work at a Spanish hospital alongside Dr. Jim Jackson, a man whose only emotion seems to be wariness of his new assistant. Armed with gifts of support from each of her dearest friends, a group that dubs themselves the Blue Orchid Society, Hazel embarks on a journey of hope and healing to battle the demons of her past with the help of the doctor who has captured her heart.
Jennifer Moore is a passionate reader and writer of all things romance due to the need to balance the rest of her world, which includes a perpetually traveling husband and four active sons, who create heaps of laundry that are anything but romantic. Jennifer has a BA in linguistics from the University of Utah and is a Guitar Hero champion. She lives in northern Utah with her family.
Oh, I adored this third book in The Blue Orchid Society. I love this group of friends. They are so wonderful and good to each other! Isn't that the best thing to read about? Characters who care about each other and who have each other's best interest at heart draws me into books very quickly. And keep drawing me back!
Hazel is very excited to travel to be with her father for Christmas but plans are thwarted and she finds herself traveling the way back home, feeling great loss. But an unexpected explosion blows the train off the tracks and she finds herself thrust into the desire of her heart. Nursing!
I just adore Hazel. She is such a sweet character. She has some struggles and that has held her back from fulfilling her dream. But I loved watching her step up to the challenge and working through her struggles to help those in need.
Dr. Jim Jackson isn't a big fan of Hazel's. He sees her dressed nicely and thinks she's just there at his hospital in the way. Boy, oh boy, does he have it a little wrong. It was so fun to watch their interactions and see how they changed and developed over the course of the book. The trust and friendship that was built between the two. Very sweet.
The hospital is in Spain in an old monastery. And close around it, is Basque country with the Carlists war happening. Bringing in many different people in need of medical attention. Of course this causes some tensions to be raised and puts the medical staff in danger.
Such a great read! I loved it! My favorite so far in the series! Such a sweet and tender story with a beautiful love story. When you think all is going wrong and not going to work out, just hold on and trust. Love will win! I know this is book #3 and it hasn't released yet while I'm writing this review, but I'm really excited for book #4 to come out! Can't wait to see more of these lovely Blue Orchid Society Ladies!!!
Content: Clean. This book of course deals with war and fights and an office so there are some descriptions of the care given to the wounded as well as some deaths. Written very well and not overly graphic. I'd recommend for teens and up. Nothing more than just kisses.
I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
I really liked the theme, the setting, and the time period. Most of the story takes place in Spain near the Basque country, which was unexpected and welcome. I didn't know about the Carlist wars and that was very interesting to read about.
After an explosion on the train she's traveling in with her companions, Hazel is stuck at the hospital while they get better. She wants to put her training to use but one of the doctors resists at first.
Hazel and Jim come from very different backgrounds and his first impression of her is not a favorable one, but the more he gets to know her, the more he recognizes how wrong he was.
I also liked the appearance of the other girls and how they're good friends to one another.
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
A group of supportive and unique friends who are loyal to each other is the central theme to this series and I love it. I love the camaraderie and the way each woman has each other's back. I love reading each individual story and learning in depth about them.
This story is distinctive from the others in that it doesn't take place in England and the reader doesn't see much of the other woman. However, it was one of my favorites. It takes place in Spain, in the Basque area, during a war and watching Hazel come into herself and shine in her element was a big treat. Hazel's greatest desire is to be a nurse, but a mental health issue (panic attacks and PTSD) prevent her from finishing her course. As she is thrust into a situation that allows her to use her skills and continue to learn, her perseverance and kind, gentle nature becomes very apparent. I loved Hazel and how her strength outshines her weaknesses.
Jim is an American doctor with the Red Cross and his immediate assumptions were concerning and misconstrued, but he was very likable. The way he was able to connect with his work, coworkers, and especially Hazel was very endearing.
Jennifer Moore always writes such well-researched stories that are not only heartwarming, but also educational, with an element of swoon. I really loved this installment of The Blue Orchid Society.
Content: mild romance; mild+ descriptions of wartime violence/injuries/death

"Surely a little help was better than none. And anything was better than sitting helplessly. She would do what she could." Hazel has given up her hopes of becoming a nurse. Her panic attacks have made it too difficult to finish her courses, so she has stepped back from her studies, and isn't sure what to do next. When she and her traveling companion, Nella, set out on a trip to visit her father for Christmas, her train comes under attack on her way back home. She begins to try to help where she can, and more so, as the stay at the hospital lengthens because of the wounds her traveling companions suffered. The more time she spends at the hospital, she is able to see that she still can help others, that she does have a gift for caring through the medicine field. At the hospital, she also meets a doctor who puts her off at first, but grows to care for the more time they spend together. Will her panic attacks truly end her hopes for serving as a nurse, or will she be able to find a way to serve anyway? This was a wonderful story. I loved Hazel and her heart for others. The female friendships represented were so well done. I loved meeting the people at the hospital, and seeing how Hazel's care and concern and joy made such a difference in difficult circumstances. The location came alive through the writing. It was wonderful to see how the people she met, especially Dr. Jackson, helped her to see past her struggles- that it was possible that they didn't mean an end to her dreams. This was my first book I've read in this series, and I can't wait to go back and read the rest of it! You can definitely read it as a stand-alone- I never felt lost because I started here. You won't want to miss this wonderful story that shows the difference hope and joy can make! I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Another fantastic Victorian adventure filled-romance from author Jennifer Moore. Readers will fall in love with and easily relate to the main character, Hazel, as they come to know her through struggles, including her dream of becoming a nurse, and several health issues (panic attacks and PTSD). Hazel is a brave and strong woman who wrestles with finding the best way to handle and make the best of life. And of course, the romance in the story is the perfect addition. A well-written and sweet story that readers will come to adore and not want to put down.

Hazel's story is different than those of the other members of the Blue Orchid Society. Firstly, it's not set in London. With this character, I really wanted to push her out of her comfort zone. Hazel also deals with mental illness because of a trauma she experienced early in her life. I wanted to put her into a situation where she had to step up, give her a chance to prove what she could do, and see for herself how strong she could be. I was so impressed the the International Red Cross and the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing, and as I studied about them, I knew I wanted a nurse in my story. I also loved researching about Spain's Carlist Wars. One side, the more conservative population wanted things to stay how they were, and how they were comfortable. And the other side, the more progressive urban population wanted change and growth. Even though it took place in a far away country, over a hundred and fifty years ago, the sentiments feel so familiar to how divided the United States is today, and I think that is fascinating and so relatable. People are people, no matter when or where we are.
I've been enjoying stories about nurses lately and this one fit right in!
Hazel travels to Spain to see her father for Christmas, but the civil war has other plans for her. A train accident results in many wounded, but she's unsure of her skills as a nurse trainee and fears the panic attacks she's prone to. When her companions are taken to the Red Cross hospital, she works alongside the team to help provide care.
Dr Jackson, at first hesitant, sees her value and ability to learn, while also growing to admire her character and perseverance. The civil war gets too close for comfort, which will test them and their growing relationship.
This is the third book in the Blue Orchid Society series, I haven't read the first two and didn't find that to be a problem. I really enjoyed this one, I think you will too!
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC and for the opportunity to post an honest review.
With every book, I love the Blue Orchid Society series even more! I adored Healing Hazel! From the first, I was captivated by the unique setting, amazing characters, heartfelt romance, and the experience of war from the Red Cross’ perspective. Though I’d never heard of the Carlist Wars before, the author did a fantastic job making this time in history come to life.
The wonderful characters are really at the heart of not only this book, but the entire series. The women who make up the Blue Orchid Society are unique, supportive, thoughtful, and truly best friends. Their caring interactions shine through even when they aren’t all physically present.
While traveling in Spain, Hazel Thornton and her companions are thrown into danger and chaos when their train is derailed by an explosion. With some nursing training, Hazel tries to care for the wounded surrounding her. When a handsome American doctor arrives on the scene, she wants to prove to him she’s capable of really helping. Traveling with her injured companions to the makeshift hospital in the middle of a war zone, she embarks on a journey she never expected when leaving her friends in London.
Hazel is genuinely good and empathetic. Her caring nature comes from both her mother whom she lost at a young age and the horrors she witnessed while her father was stationed in India. Perceived at first as soft, she quickly proves she’s strong and capable while fighting the crippling effects of a panic disorder. As one who’s witnessed panic attacks, the author’s descriptions were spot on. She truly captured the very real feelings of terror and helplessness. Hazel more than proves she’s an excellent nurse in the most trying circumstances and confronts her fears with dignity and courage.
I loved Dr. Jim Jackson! He’s the perfectly attractive yet gruff hero; a little prickly on the outside, but sweet on the inside. His career has been shaped by the one patient he couldn’t save. While dedicated to saving life, he often seems a bit strict. When he meets Hazel, he thinks she’s a soft, English debutant, but she surprises him with her capable, quiet strength, and true compassion. Their relationship grows gradually with mutual respect and through shared experiences in caring for the wounded of the Carlist Wars.
This book was honestly so hard to put down. I loved the slow-burn romance between Hazel and Jim. I also loved the fast-paced setting where real circumstances of war are expertly rendered in a compelling yet non-graphic way. The relationships between all the characters were endearing and I especially loved the side characters of Nella, Dr. Laurent, and Camila.
I was sad to see this story end and can’t wait for the next book! Highly recommend this and the entire series, especially to historical romance fans! It can be read as a standalone, though it’s even more enjoyable if you’ve read the previous books. I received an advanced complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.
Hazel Thornton wanted to be a nurse more than anything, but her concern of having panic attacks leaves her with such doubt that she isn’t sure she is capable. While on her way to see her father, she and her companions are involved in a terrible train wreck and must recuperate at a Red Cross Hospital in war-torn Spain.
Hazel was my favorite character because not only was she compassionate, competent and caring for the patients in more than just their physical needs at the hospital, but she was courageous as she faced her fears instead of quitting. I enjoyed seeing her gain confidence in her nursing abilities and helping patients.
At first Dr. Jim Jackson was not a man I particularly cared for since he seemed abrupt and suspicious of Hazel. He wasn’t sure what to think of her at first. Was she qualified to help or was she going to be a hindrance? But as time went on, I grew to like and respect him. He was such a great match for Hazel as he gave her “a chance to become what she’d dreamed of. He’d encouraged her, taught her.”
I recommend this third book in the Blue Orchid Society series. It can be read as a standalone, but the other two stories are excellent and ones you don’t want to miss.
I received a copy of the book through NetGalley as well as the publisher. A positive review was not required and all opinions are my own.
This is the first book that I've read in the Blue Orchid Society series and I am now dying to go pick up the previous books in this series and read them all. I didn't feel like I was lost at all while reading this one out of order and can confidently say it can be read as a stand alone...but I'm definitely going back to go pick up the others because I loved this author's writing style!
The pacing was incredible and I couldn't put this book down. The twists and turns kept me riveted from the first page to the last. The characters were dynamic and I loved seeing both of the main characters progress as the story went on. I thought the author did a great job with the main character's backstories and how the characters overcame previous challenges through the scenarios they faced in this book. The descriptions were rich and I felt like I was right in the middle of all of the action. It was such a unique time period and setting that I was completely drawn in. The romance was darling and so sweet!
As with any story with doctors and nurses you can expect wounds, blood, and talk of medical treatment. I thought the writing was really well done and it kept me interested and not squeamish at all.
Highly recommend this book and can't wait to go back and read more from this series and author.
A thrilling and romantic addition to the Blue Orchid Society series!
While traveling through Spain, Hazel is thrown into the middle of a dangerous war and finds herself assisting the nurses at a Red Cross hospital. As she learns more about herself and what she is truly capable of, Hazel may find the courage to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse. especially with the support and encouragement of Jim Jackson, the handsome American doctor.
Hazel and Jim both had wonderful character arcs and I loved that theirs brought them together, especially in such a unique setting. Their romance deserves all the swoony heart eyes and that ending! Happy sighs all around.
I adore the friendships of the Blue Orchid society - their love and support of each other in chasing their dreams is just beautiful!
I enjoyed this book from first page to last. If you haven't picked up any of this series yet, this can be read as a stand-alone but trust me, once you read it you will want to read the others too!
CW: some talk of blood and injuries - it didn't both me at all but just to be clear if you are squeamish, this is a book about a nurse and a doctor so expect there to be medical stuff
I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.
I enjoyed this book by Jennifer Moore. I have enjoyed the other books in the series and I am glad that this one did not disappoint. I liked how in this book we got to understand why Hazel has her panic attacks in crowded/small spaces. I liked how Jim was able to help her work through them and find ways to cope. I also liked how Hazel was able to do what she always wanted to do as a nurse. I liked that she gained more confidence in herself and was able to achieve her dream. I also liked how Hazel helped Jim with his own demons and how they were a compliment to each other. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
This is a slow moving love story or coming of age story. She is trying to find her way in the world and overcoming issues from the war she was in. She wants so badly to be a nurse and is given the opportunity threw a series of events. I really love Moore's well done writing. This book just didn't appeal as much to me as others of hers have. I think I missed the mystery. I also wanted a bit more from the leading man. Overall it was a good read. I look forward to more of this Society of ladies:} Clean romance. Some kisses. No religion.
I really enjoyed this third book in The Blue Orchid Society series. Getting Hazel's story was really exciting -- I have been anticipating hers since the first book!
Hazel is such a sweet protagonist and I loved getting to know her better. It's so easy to cheer for her and hope that she reaches all her dreams. I was impressed by her ambitions to complete her nursing training and how many modern innovations were beginning at this time. Hazel is a natural caregiver with a sweet bedside manner and a unique ability to connect with people of all walks of life. I was cheering for her throughout the novel. She works through the trauma of her past and wants to do something worthwhile instead of wallowing in self pity. I respect her for that. And I love the way she falls in love with someone who becomes her safety and refuge from the panic and uncertainty that at times surround her.
Jim Jackson is such a fantastic compliment to Hazel. He is brooding and stand offish at first. But soon we see his kind, caring nature and the true reasons he became a doctor and why he works so hard to save patients. I admired his determination, his desire to help, and his willingness to teach Hazel. Their romance is slow building and beautiful. Their first kiss is swoony and sweet -- perfect! And I love how they both begin to realize how much they mean to each other as the story progresses. They don't judge each other for their pasts or their challenges. Instead they help each other through those challenges. The climax at the army camp and escape for their lives is gripping and reveals the depths of especially Jim's feelings. I loved his vulnerable, loving self and how much Hazel means to him.
I was fascinated by this time period and the Spanish war as the backdrop to this story. I haven't read anything previously set in that location during the Victorian Age and it was so interesting. The contrasts between upcoming modern medical details and old style fighting were so interesting. I was surprised by how far medicine had come at this time with innovations like disinfecting instruments and bandages, the life saving surgeries with anesthesia, and the creation of the International Red Cross. That was in stark contrast to the hospital setup in an old monastery using candles for light, limited postal service, kidnapping and the guerrilla warfare in the hills around them. The beginnings of the Red Cross were fascinating to read about as well. People didn't trust them from both sides of the conflict and it was interesting to think about a time when the Red Cross was new and unknown.
I love the ending when Hazel and Jim realize their feelings and are reunited with a little help from the Blue Orchid Society. Such a clever and silly way to bring them together again. I felt that there could have been more development at the end as they prepare to go after each other. It felt a bit rushed. And I wish there had been an epilogue with a glimpse into their life in the future. I loved the small moments we get with the other members of the Blue Orchid Society and would have loved more of them somehow! What makes these books so engaging and memorable to me are the friendships between these women. They are true friends -- fighting for each other, helping each other, supporting each other in their dreams, and loving each other as true friends.
Overall a fantastic addition to the series! I loved seeing Hazel take the spotlight as she shows everyone including herself how strong and capable she is. That journey is augmented by a beautiful love story that only adds to the beauty of the experience. Seeing her fulfill her dreams was a delight!
I received an ARC copy of the novel from the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love this series, but even more than that, I love Hazel. Her anxieties and imperfections combined with her pure determination make her beautifully flawed and completely relatable. She is brave and compassionate in the most unexpected and harrowing circumstances. This story left me breathless for her at moments.
Dr. Jim Jackson is an American on a mission for the red cross. He is determined to save all he can from the ravages of war, no matter the side. Headstrong Hazel is definitely his match and challenges his long held beliefs and his determination to stay alone.
This story has these two thrown together, working side by side. Hazel had not been able to finish her nurses training due to unresolved trauma and she is thrown into a situation where she has to face those fears head on.
Beyond the drama of the story, there is a piece I love about this series. It is the enduring support and friendship of this group of ladies. They cheer for each other, lift each other, and support each other. There is no competition between them. Together they work to overcome. Even as Hazel is facing unexpected circumstances beyond her control, she depends on these ladies and their love for strength.
This is a story about the best of women. It is Hazel's story but it is also brought to pass through this society. The truth about this story is the growth that is experienced by both Hazel and Jim. They work through their pasts and come together. It rings true and realistic but with the escape of the happy ever after. I could not put this one down and read it in one sitting. If you haven't read these books, this is a good place to start.
I received an early copy of this book through NetGalley and this is my honest review.
I love the Blue Orchid Society series!! I love this group of women who support each other as each one pursues her dream. Hazel Thornton's dream is to be a nurse and she's been studying at the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing. It's close to Christmas so Hazel travels to Spain to spend Christmas with her father, but upon her arrival she discovers that her father isn't there and he's arranged for her to return to England. Shortly after the trip back to England begins, the train is derailed by an explosion. Hazel escapes serious injury but her traveling companion and the soldier escorting them back to England are injured and she goes with them when they're taken to the Red Cross Hospital. At the hospital Hazel wants to help but Dr. Jim Jackson, an American, misjudges her to be a pampered young woman but soon learns Hazel has training, is a hardworking and willing to learn.
I loved Hazel. She's kind and empathetic to those around her. She struggles with panic attacks but she's learning to how to work through them. One of my favorite parts was when she used the Christmas gifts from her friends to help others in the hospital. They were such unselfish acts. I had to warm up to Dr. Jackson as he got on my bad side when he misjudged Hazel. I enjoyed watching him become friends with Hazel and seeing his opinion of her change. I also loved the side characters of Nella and Dr. Laurent.
This book kept me interested from the start. I love how the author used historical facts about the Spanish Civil War in the story, and her descriptions really brought the story to life for me. I can't wait for the next book in this series to come out.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher Covenant Communications via NetGalley. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.
This is the third book in the Blue Orchid Society series. This is my favorite book in this series. A trip to visit Hazel's father for Christmas, is canceled, due to her father's duties as a General. The ride home on the train to London, comes to a screeching halt, when an explosion causes the train to derail. Hazel spends her time in Spain, at the red cross taking care of the injured, while her friend continues to heal, from a broken ankle, due to the train derailment. Hazel, who is studying to be a nurse, puts her skills to use. Hazel also finds herself, falling for a young doctor on staff, but feels that it is one sided. I enjoyed reading about this time period.
Hazel Thornton has always wanted be a nurse, but her fear of enclosed spaces made it impossible to finish her nursing studies. On her way to the Canary Islands to live with her father, a Major General in the British army, Hazel and her companions are caught in the conflict of the Spanish Civil War. After rebels blow up their train, she is encouraged to help and applies her knowledge of first aid. Dr. Jim Jackson is critical of Hazel's help, but soon changes his mind. Working together for the Red Cross helping the injured from the fighting, their admiration for each creates complications. Kissing only. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Loved this book! From the beginning I was intrigued and anxious to learn Hazels story. I loved the characters and the story. I loved that the challenges weren’t so insurmountable or all consuming. It’s such a sweet story. This is the third book in the Blue Orchid Society but you’re just fine reading it alone.
I liked the ease of reading this story. The story itself was delightful with some expected story lines as well as some unexpected turns of events. I appreciated the inclusion of the Red Cross and it’s purposes.
This was so good! Ever since I read solving Saphronia and inventing Vivian I have been anticipating this book to come out! The blue orchid society is such I good series so far and I love how each book is about women proving wrong the societal expectations of their time. I loved the characters in the book and it’s so cool to hear about the medical profession, just like how we get to hear about murder cases and fantastic inventions in the other books! Overall it’s a really great book and I 100% recommend!
This is a very wonderful, lovely book. Hazel is an incredible character. It was admirable to see Hazel’s struggles with her own panic attacks and to have her help others selflessly the way she did. There was a particular scene with a baby that brought tears to my eyes. Nella was a joy. I loved it when she was on the page. She brought fun and humor to those tense moments. Jim also was fantastic. He also had a past to overcome. As serious as the plot was, the author was also able to weave some humorous moments. Especially concerning Dr. Jackson and his out of place hands. There is an exciting climax where I couldn’t turn pages fast enough. Again, a lovely book with a great ending.
One of my favorite things in Jennifer B. Moore’s Blue Orchid Society series is the friendships formed between the women and the way the support each other to follow their dreams. In Healing Hazel, readers get more of those friendships even though Hazel is apart from her friends for most of the book.
I couldn’t help but sympathize with Hazel as her plans to visit her father for Christmas crumble then root for her as she puts her nursing training into action. Despite Dr. Jim Jackson’s opposition to Hazel and some of her ideas, she believes in her training and implements it when she can as she becomes friends with the other nurses and some of the patients.
Moore puts her characters in some difficult situations, which increases the tension in the plot from time to time, but my favorite part of Healing Hazel was when Hazel opened the gifts from her friends because each one of them had been given with thought and consideration to who Hazel is as a person. And the way each item was used throughout the book was perfect.
From the setting in Spain to the medical procedures to the conflict during the era, this book is well researched, giving readers some history along with a captivating romance. Healing Hazel is a bit of a departure from the first two books in the series, but completely worth the read.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive or negative review. All opinions are my own.
As a lover of historical fiction, Healing Hazel was a wonderful read. I haven’t read much that took place during the Spanish Civil War, so it was interesting to learn a little bit of new history alongside a wonderful new Christian fiction!
The story follows Hazel, who is an aspiring nurse in 1873. While she grew up with a military father and not in England, the book starts with her and her friends celebrating an early Christmas in London. Hazel is packed and ready leave London for Spain to spend the holiday with her father. However, her train is attacked, and its occupants rescued by the closest Red Cross. While Hazel and her travel companions are stranded at the monastery-turned-hospital, Hazel volunteers her skills with the Red Cross, healing others as she herself starts to heal. She faces many ordeals, as well as finding someone her heart loves, while waiting for the timing to be right for her and her companions to find safe travel back to England.
This was a wonderful, wholesome Christian romance/historical fiction read. I love the growth we see in Hazel, in dealing with her anxiety, expounding on her nursing skills, and trusting in God’s timing. This is one I would read the others in the series. Also, while this is book 3 in the series, it read more like a standalone, so I wouldn’t let that deter you from reading it.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
I have loved both books in this series and excited for the next installment of The Blue Orchid Society. These ladies are true friends to each other. Supporting, caring and encouraging. I truly believe everyone needs a group like that in their life. I appreciate for Jennifer Moore always addresses this in her author note at the end. 🩺 Hazel wants to be a nurse and help others. She had the best example- watching her mother tend and care for others. Only Hazel has panic attacks and quits nursing school only for a holiday gone wrong with a train track explosion and finding herself in war torn Spain and a hospital needing all hands on deck! 🩺 I was so thrown off by these events that it did take a while to get into the story but it was so unique that I appreciated learning about Spanish history that I never knew. Of course a handsome doctor and forced proximity never hurt either 😉 🩺 Hazel is strong and capable and needing the support of others or needing to be reminded of that doesn’t make you weak. 💜 I really loved this book and I just wanted a little more at the end but I can’t wait for the next book in the series because I love seeing the ladies through out. 🩺 These books don’t need to be read in order and can be read as a stand alone. I received an arc from the publisher and Net Galley. These are my own thoughts and opinions.
I loved this story! I found both Hazel and Jim to be intriguing characters with backstories that were well-integrated with their present journeys—nothing felt contrived or unrealistic. The setting and history were particularly fascinating. I have read plenty of Victorian romances, but Healing Hazel merged Spain, England, America, India, and our present day seamlessly (no, the story doesn’t involve time travel, but in terms of the emotional experience of medical workers, it all felt very timely). Some of the medical descriptions may make certain readers squeamish, but those passages can be easily skimmed and won’t detract from the reader’s overall enjoyment of the story. And, as Jennifer Moore said in her author’s note, it is refreshing to see true and steady female friendship represented in the Blue Orchid Society.
I highly recommend this series! 4.5/5 stars
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This series is slowly but surely ruining any realistic expectations for me, and Hazel’s book didn’t disappoint. The characters, the setting, this story was the kind that pulls you in to the point where you forget that you’re reading and I loved that. I was a little unsure going into it because the other books don’t show very much about Hazel, she had just seemed sweet and shy but I loved reading and seeing that there’s so much more to her character. Overall, I loved this book and can’t wait for the rest!
Ms Moore captured me with her next volume of the Orchid Society! I love how she can put together a story that takes me with her characters! I already bought it!!!
Update! I listened to this book and the audio was fabulous! I loved the narrator and the story swept me away!!!
