Alien Genesis

Rate this book
In 1954, Ensign James Cortell wakes up from a coma with memories of an alien scientist who had visited Earth some fifty thousand years ago. Years later, he realizes this knowledge should not be taken to his grave.

Earth’s extraterrestrial visitors altered Homo sapien DNA to produce modern humans. Soon the industrialist overlords among the alien race realize that genetically altered humans offer a source of cheap labor. A galactic slave trade is born. When an unplanned mutation begins causing gigantism among some of the sapiens, Dr. Kadeya and her grandson, Ramuell, travel to Earth and plan to rectify the situation.

As the scientific and industrialist factions of Earth's rulers clash, Kadeya and Ramuell are caught in the middle. But behind the scenes, an even greater power is at play, and very soon their future - and the future of both races now inhabiting the planet - will change forever.

Gary Beene (1951 - ) grew up on a farm in southern New Mexico. At Las Cruces High School he studied the 440-yard dash and continued that study in college with ten hurdles thrown in. He was not much of a student, but he could run sure enough. People used to say "Gary has wheels!" ...Now he just has flat tires.

Gary made the decision to retire in 2008 in order to spend more time pursuing his white water boating, scuba diving, and golf passions. However, as the nation's political discourse became more vitriolic, he decided to add his voice to the chorus for kindness. The retirement lasted all of about one month when he began working ten-hour days on THE SEEDS WE SOW, KINDNESS THAT FED A HUNGRY WORLD. (The second edition of this book was released in 2016 under the title THE SEEDS WE SOW: A STORY OF THE GREATEST KINDNESS - available in eBook format.)

His second book, GOD'S AVATARS: THE BETRAYAL OF BELIEF, was more difficult to write on a whole host of levels. Dealing with some of humanity's darker motives, it took more time and more emotion than a story about kindness. Both books share important albeit very different messages about the human condition.

After taking a year-long break from writing, Gary began work on his first novel. During that time a United States President finally officially acknowledged the Armenian Genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Empire in 1915. Gary released a short non-fiction book about this atrocity. THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE: A BRIEF HISTORY is available in Kindle format.

ALIEN GENESIS is Gary's first novel. It was released by Next Chapter Publishing in April 2022. It is available worldwide in multiple electronic book formats as well as paperback, large print, and hardcover.

After 30 years working in the fields of Vocational Rehabilitation and Special Education, Gary retired as the State Director of the New Mexico Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. He and his wife, Carla, enjoy life at their home in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Gary states that for him kindness did not always come naturally. He says, "I was one of those poor saps who had to do a lot of personal work before understanding that only the merest quarter-turn of the heart separates us from life's abundance."

ALIEN GENESIS is a creatively imagined and wide-ranging Science Fiction tale with an unforgettable, engrossing, reader's hook. In addition to its far-ranging Science Fiction explorations, ALIEN GENESIS has appeal to those interested in Metaphysics, the evolution of Civilization, and similar phenomena.

Except for an enduring love of Ray Bradbury and the time-travelling hero of Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five, I have not been an avid reader of science fiction. So I approached Alien Genesis with a little trepidation! I read several drafts and became more and .more interested. But reading the finished book has left me nothing short of amazed.
This is truly a story within a story—or within many stories. It begins 50,000 years ago with the Crow Clan, a simple people facing disaster. Slowly, the reader realizes that the leading character, Ramuell, is from another time and place and belongs to an alien race—the Domhanians. However, he has been spending his life WITH this clan, despite the fact that his race has been altering the DNA of early homo sapiens with the objective of helping them evolve.
Quickly, we move to the near-present in America where Admiral Cortell has summoned our “author” Gary and his wife Carla to his home in Miami. Since wakening from a coma, the admiral has been plagued by what others have called “dreams” and “hallucinations.” But Cortell has come to realize that these are memories from a distant past. He wants to tell his story to Gary in the hopes that it can be written down. And WHAT a story it is!
I don’t want to spoil this book for anyone, but suffice to say it is filled with suspense and action. I will never forget the superb and frightening description of the “nefilm” attacking the Crow Clan. It seems that these aggressive giants are a mutant species created accidentally through the Domhanians’ interference with the planet. Because of this, Ramuell and his scientist grandmother are called to help with the problem (time-dimension jumps are a wonderful feature throughout the story). As we travel ourselves through this book we meet Ramuell’s long-missing parents—Althea and Egan – and run with them as they try to evade enemies on their own home planet. They have had interludes with the mysterious grey beings called Beag Liath, who have shown them how their fellow Dohmanians have begun to use altered humans as slaves.
Besides being a great story (with a surprise ending), Alien Genesis is well written with wit ( I loved the asides—such as the explanation of the physical characteristics of the inhabitants of Domhan-Siol, followed with, “All in all, they considered themselves quite a handsome species”) and great descriptive detail. I also learned a wealth of information I never knew before, such as the “alluvial gold theory” and the differences between Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens.
But of even more interest to me were the parallels between our planet’s problems and those outlined in this work. As the character Althea asks: “How many of our leaders knew that our better angels have been prostituted to feed corporate greed?” I hope everyone reads, enjoys, and thinks about Alien Genesis.

This was a second read to refresh my memory on this story for a beta read of the second book.

This book is science fiction and I've read maybe 5 books of this genre in my entire life. I read it because a good friend wrote it and I've enjoyed/learned from his other books (which were not science fiction). This is his first SF novel and there is a lot packed into this story. Because SF is not my preferred genre, I can only evaluate whether it seemed like a good story (especially if there was something unique), was well written and whether the characters held my interest.
Reading is a daily activity for me. I'm usually reading several books at once because I'm in several book clubs and because the books I reserve from the library usually come all at once! I also read fast...usually. I had to read this book very slowly. There is so much going in the story over such a long period of time and and the book seems to be drawing parallels to Earth's history and most especially historical and current political events (I may be wrong) that I had to read/re-read sections.
There were several parts (because I've known the author for a long time) that caused me to laugh or smile at his treatment of the topic or the characters. Overall, it was a good read and held my interest despite my inability to figure out the terms for the measurements of time and my lack of knowledge about space/time travel. I loved the references to New Mexico and to people I know!

Interesting concept on how human as we know them now started. Great characters.
A bit lengthy in some area due to loads of details. For some people this might be a plus for others not so much. Some explanations just went over my head and this is why (along with another thing explained below) I am giving 4 stars and not 5. The thing is that if you are a real scientist, you might like it or you may laugh at it, but I cannot tell if any of it can be true. Anyway, the base of the story was well thought and imaginative. Some parts were told rather than 'lived'. According to the story, it is because the one who is relating it is tired. After all I believe he is 89 years old(?).
What bugged me the most and I hope the author will fix it, is a typo in a name. A person dies (no I am not telling who) and in the next sentence the author used the name of that person and said that noise took that person out of their stupor and ran telling others to follow. For a long time, I thought that this person might not have died after all and kept wondering when I would see them again… False hope. Just an error.
Overall, if you love aliens, and don't mind some lengthy bits, it is a story you might like to read.

It's been awhile since I have spent time in the science fiction realm, and I am very glad I returned to the genre with this book.
Alien Genesis is so well written and very thorough in the details and backstory- I became completely sucked in. The story does bounce between 2 timelines, but the way it is laid out makes it easy to follow. I love the concept of seeding sentience and an entire story buried in DNA. The political intrigue woven into the background of Domhan-Siol sounds oddly familiar and realistic....
I do wish the author had delved into more of the Ramuell & Shiya timeline and the day to day of the Crow clan.
Perhaps in a future installment of Eden's Angels?
You had me at "The air itself caught fire."
I so look forward to more books set in this universe.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I can not overstate how fantastic this book is. The characters are so real and the world building is astounding. The way it's written, the reader forgets they are reading a re-telling of recovered memories until almost the end of the book.

It is a gorgeously written story and I'm so glad it's a complete novel, instead of being broken into several shorter books, which seems to be the norm these days.

This has definitely earned a place in my top ancient alien stories and I'd be very interested to read more about the Domhanians and the sapiens of the other worlds.

Alien Genesis grabbed me from the first page. Author Gary Beene's writing skills are phenomenal and only matched by his wild imagination. This is a book you won't be able to put down. The whole time I was reading it, I kept thinking, this would make a great miniseries.

I can't wait for the sequel!

Alien Genesis

There is so much more to us and this world around us waiting to be rediscovered. We are way more than we appear to be.

Author Gary Beene applies his far-reaching imagination and great storytelling to the latest scientific and archeological discoveries about the awakening of human consciousness and culture. The result is a multi-layered story that is highly visionary but at the same time more plausible than most of the "genesis" stories at the heart of our dominant religions.

In a refreshing way, the alien protagonists that he has imagined, in spite of existing eons prior to the human species and possessing technologies light-years beyond our own, are not all-knowing or infallible. In fact, their civilizations are conflicted and fractured in ways that are right out of modern-day evening news. Beene’s alien government and military leaders are flawed and corrupt in ways that we can recognize just as easily, down to an all-too-familiar maniacal stable genius, thrown in for good measure. This gives the sci-fi story a down-to-earth relevance and drives much of the book’s riveting action and suspense.

Without revealing the many surprises in the book I can say that the interactions between the advanced aliens and early homo sapiens were my favorite parts of the story and some of the most inventive and unexpected passages. In his imagined pre-history, Gary Beene has put a new twist on the idea of “original sin” that frankly makes the biblical one look tame.

Finally I loved that the author wrote himself and his wife Carla into the story in a way that makes the writing of the book itself a self-referential part of the plot. I found that this literary equivalent of the theatrical trick of “breaking the fourth wall” ultimately left me wondering: “How much of this could actually be true?”

From an ancient alien civilization to modern human awakening—a great story.

Alien Genesis by Gary Beene is an exciting, well plotted story that tells a lot about the growth of human awareness through the interaction of advanced human species and the early human fathers. The author's imaginative power and writing prowess makes this story an interesting and fascinating one.
Even though the ideas in this book are fictional the author borrows several ideas from latest archaeological findings that borders on the awakening of human consciousness. The result is an excellent and very much believable work. Some of the interesting issues in this book include corrupt alien government and military leader, the mad genius whose presence in the novel was very much necessary to set the balance in this book.
Also, the author found an interesting way of including himself and his wife in the story, which brings the story more to life through self-reference. When you read this book, you’ll find yourself wondering whether the events in this novel are real and happening in this present time?
Alien Genesis is an exciting read. I can’t wait for the next part of the series. Thank you Gary Beene for giving us this interesting novel.

Alien Genesis by Gary Beene is a science fiction novel that explores genetic engineering and alien invasion themes. It is the first book in the Eden's Angels series, and it tells an exciting and well-plotted story. While the book's storyline may be fictional, the author draws inspiration from recent archaeological findings to explore the growth of human consciousness through the interaction of advanced human species and early human fathers. Beene's writing prowess and imaginative power create a fascinating and thought-provoking reading experience.

What sets Alien Genesis apart from other books in the genre is the author's unique and creative writing style. The book is a refreshing change from the standard science fiction fare, and it manages to be an entertaining read despite its far-fetched and imaginative storyline. Fans of sci-fi and aliens will enjoy the book's intriguing plot and fascinating characters. The book transports readers to an immersive world of genetic engineering and alien invasions.

This book is a well-crafted and captivating science fiction novel with a unique and creative writing style that sets it apart from others in the genre. The characters are interesting, fun, and well-crafted, and the story is brilliantly written with top-notch narration. While the book is lengthy, every page and scene are creatively and intelligently made, keeping the reader captivated.

However, the story could benefit from some professional editing to tighten it up, as there are some pointless diversions and side-musings that could be reduced to make it a more appropriate size. The premise of humanity being developed by intelligent design through genetic engineering by aliens is interesting, especially in considering why they would want to do that. The story progresses through a number of planets with politically correct good and not-so-good guys, providing clever world-building and making good social points. Overall, Alien Genesis is a recommended read for fans of the sci-fi, alien, and space genres who enjoy richly described stories.

Some interesting aspects, but 2/3 in the first book, I still don't have a feeling of where this is going, and I'm deciding to give up. In spite of these aspects, I feel that the aliens are too much modern human like, culturally. Apart from the fact that their culture don't seem to have been at war for a long time, I don't think the author has been able to create a culture that is alien enough to make it believable. It is certainly less alien for the most part that some human cultures of the past.

On a different aspect, apart from the space travel technology, I feel the author lacks imagination in what alien technology could exist, and some seem even already surpassed by human technology.

In relation to the "source" of the story which seems to be the memory from waking up from a coma, the story ends up containing too much details, nearly painfully slow with a lot of unnecessary details which make it seem quite out of context and don't fit the idea of being a memory. Though the some of the details might be ok for world building, they don't quite fit the context.

ANCIENT ALIEN CONSPIRACY!

This sci-fi gem starts with Ensign James Cortell waking up from a coma in 1954 with his head crammed full of shocking alien memories from 50,000 years ago.

These memories reveal the bombshell truth that aliens genetically modified our primitive ancestors to create modern humans, completely rewriting human history as we know it.

What started as an alien science experiment quickly turned dark when greedy alien industrialists realized they could use these enhanced humans as cheap slave labor across the galaxy.

Behind all this interstellar drama lurks an even greater cosmic force that will forever alter the destinies of both humans and the aliens who created us, setting up an epic sci-fi saga that blends ancient astronaut theories with high-stakes galactic politics.

Alien Genesis: Edens Angels Book 1 is a science fiction story set in the 1950s, in which a suddenly awaken in a coma man named James Corwell remembers an alien scientist who visited Earth 50.000 years ago and changed the human DNA, making modern humans and used cheap labor in modern days.

It is such an interesting story from the beginning! Already the plot gives a lot of curiosity for the reader to see how this story unravels.

The hype of the story and going into the past and back to the future shows the unraveling of events, allowing the reader to create different scenarios and hypotheses in their head to see how the story plot ends. It is your classic alien sci-fi story. Absolutely loved it from begging to end. Highly recommend it!

I loved this fictional story from beginning to end mainly for its originality, although I also enjoyed the action that is present in each chapter as well as the characters that are excellently portrayed.
Another aspect of the book that really surprised me, in the best possible way, is the colorful writing style that the author employed in crafting this masterpiece. He mixed topics that are totally captivating and controversial in equal measure, such as genetic manipulation, slavery, and unforeseen mutations. Not to mention, the exquisite way in which he described the scenes, painting vivid pictures in the reader’s imagination.
The tension is constant and it is maintained until the end, leaving you wanting to devour the second installment of the series.

The book breaks the temporal schemes, because instead of placing you immediately in 2060 or in the distant future, it places years ago the existence and coexistence with beings beyond what we know in our universe.

The plot is inspirational and gripping; this kind of stories make the reader get trapped, because he is reading about something he does not know and that all humans are very curious about.

The narrative, the scenarios and the characters are the best of this work, no details escape the reader's eye and that makes it excellent. I was easily involved and the truth is that I read it quickly because of how well it is written and the way it flows.

Congratulations to the author.

Beene’s narrative is the first installment of what seems to be a promising series. The author was able to put together a narrative that is engaging, creative and which is able to resonate in us, even after closing the last page.
All the characters chosen for this great science fiction tale stand out since they all have unique features that make them suit perfectly in the storyline.
Alien Genesis is a wild adventure through the universe, sparked with moments of magic, strength, and fictional events that uplift.
Even though the narrative is fictional, it is a lovely collection of stories, with a fun world-building, and diverse themes tackled. Loved it!
