Her Solace

Rate this book
*Previously published as Locke's Solace by Guin Archer*

Adeline Rimbauer has been settling in with the seven Alpha wolves in the private world of White Peak. Because of them, she is discovering a new side of herself she’d never imagined existed. She was stronger than she thought. Truly and completelydifferent. That was okay, though, because she had her men, her friends, and new life growing inside of her, just waiting to be held in her arms.

Life, for the first time in forever, was magical.

Unfortunately, not everyone is happy with a partial-Fae woman rising to power. She was a threat to a dying conclave who were bound and determined to keep things the way they had always been. Threats were meant to be dealt with in a permanent way.

It will take Adeline, her loved ones, and every ounce of strength she possesses to keep her hard-earned family from falling to a darkness more malevolent than the depression that reaps within her soul.

***Trigger warning for scenes of graphic violence, power-exchange, elements of BDSM, mental instability of the FMC, and more.***

Guin is an old soul caught in a sometimes-naughty body. She lives in upstate New York and enjoys nights out on the back deck listening to the crickets chirp while she reads another book. There's not much better in her world than chilling with the animals and getting lost in a new book boyfriend (or a few).

Addie treading water

Addie has just discovered her hidden heritage, a surprise pregnancy, and a looming war. She also has to find the flora she's tied to, learn everything she has can about the Other, deal with magic exploding out of her, and somehow remain calm for the baby. No biggie, piece of cake. Right?

Spoilers ahead.
We get a couple POVs that I'm not sure wouldn't have been better from the guys instead. Mostly because their voices only really show when she's in danger, or during steam scenes. While I liked the series, it almost should have been 3 books. A lot was glossed over or lost in time leaps. Her learning, her bonding with the pack, bonding with her friends' mates, using her mental walls, bonding with the guys more, the investigations, ... Some parts felt rushed. And we never see Daire learn not to coddle. She yells about it, threatens, but the scene flips ahead by weeks or months and it gets dropped. It's literally only after she can rip the knowledge from their minds that they quit. I'm still not sure about the torture scene. And the immediate steam after. The torture was particularly gruesome, and they'd already gotten the info. Should have just put them down instead of what happened. But at least there's a scene skip warning. I appreciate authors that are considerate. I really do wish this was 3 books. I'd have liked to "see" the Other pulling together, the revelation, and all the adjustments. And we never see her in her new role but the once. All that sewing should have paid off more lol.

Great Book

Her Solace is the concluding part of Addie’s story and sees her dealing with mating with her men, her pregnancy and dealing with the enemies that are beginning to surround them. I really enjoyed this book, the story was good and I loved the twists and turns that happened throughout. I also fell in love with the characters, I loved how protective her men were of Addie but I also loved that she stuck up for herself against them when she felt it needed to be done. Overall, a great book that I would recommend giving a read.

What a ride!

This duet was fantastic! I definitely felt some feels reading this. I love the authors way of looking at depression and the acknowledgment that depressions doesn’t magically go away. The men were amazing and delightfully spicy.

Hea

It wasn't so much the story that disappointed me as much as how so much of the book felt like it was just wrapping up everyone else's story.
