"I want to look into your beautiful brown eyes, and see that sweet bewilderment as I stand above you."

Bewildered, it was the perfect word to describe how I felt when Mason kept trying to talk to me. At 26, I was unemployed again and lower than I’d ever been. I met him online while I was asking strangers for casual sex. I was hardly the type of person I would expect someone like him to be interested in.

He was so tightly laced, in control of every aspect of his life. Me? I was a mess who embarrassed myself in front of him more than anyone else I knew. Abrupt, rude, and downright infatuated with him didn’t strike me as highly marketable qualities.

When he didn’t run from me like everyone else I was sure there had to be something wrong. I didn’t realize how right I was.

"The thought of you in knots is incredibly appealing. I’d be happy to tie you in some or bend you in them, whichever you prefer"

That’s how he left me, tied in knots, and unable to find which way was up. I didn’t even know his real name. That alone should have been enough to put me off, but there was something inevitable about him.

It should have scared me when he revealed the truth about his past, and who his family was, but I was in too deep. He worked his way into my blood, and I was forever changed.

He wanted to be a better man and he worked hard to be a better man. I needed to stand beside him, and drag us both into the light. The lure of his utter perfection blinded me, and I didn’t notice there was far worse danger waiting around the corner.

I love an awkward, nerdy h and that’s just what I got with Claire. I also love a mysterious and dominant H and I got that in spades with Mason. Holy hot stuff, Batman. There are several storylines going on throughout the book that I wondered how they would come together in the end. But they did. There is no cliffhanger but there are a few unanswered questions that have me waiting on the edge of my seat for Book 2.

Perfect amount of spice, suspense, and mystery all wrapped in a pretty box💕

Mason is a smoke show and I am living for it! Overall really well thought out plot. I love the character development and I can’t wait to read the next one 🙌🏻

Clair was the perfect MC witty, charming, and with some of her own personal growth to accomplish I’m excited to see where this series goes 🤌

3.5 stars, I’m having trouble deciding on bumping it to 4 or knocking it down to 3. I kept seeing this book rec’d in *multiple* Facebook groups and I finally but the bullet. I don’t like to read unfinished series. I loathe cliffhangers with every fiber of my being. I can’t relate to people who love them, it just goes against everything in me. I saw a couple posts saying this doesn’t have a cliffhanger so I decided to take the risk.

For the record, technically there’s no cliffhanger. However, there’s also no resolution to the story and more questions than answers. One of the reasons I avoid unfinished series is that I read *a lot* therefore my information retention isn’t that great. A book has to be amazingly epic to make a lasting impression on me. I don’t know if this book will stick with me or not but I’d lean towards not. It’s not a bad book, it’s fine, it’s well written, I like the authors style and the story is intriguing enough but I’m not certain that I’ll recall it by the time the next book comes out, if I even remember there is a next book at all.

The story is too slow paced in the beginning. It draaaaaaags on much too long, I almost DNF out of frustration before things finally got interesting. I understand building tension by delaying the inevitable meeting of the H and h but you almost lost me completely because it was so drug out.

I didn’t hate the heroine but I honestly can’t say I liked her that much. I can’t really articulate why I didn’t love her but she just didn’t do it for me. We don’t actually get a ton of insight into the H as part of the mystery but out of the two he’s definitely more interesting. I’m not sure I’m into him enough to come back for book 2, if I remember.

Cover 3/5

Story 3.5/5
Heat 2/5
Angst 2.5/5

Technically a medium burn, H/h have sex around 62%, but the beginning of the book is paced so slowly it feeeeels like a slow burn. There’s some sexy messages, masturbation and foreplay between them before 62% but none of that counts to me.

No condoms
No virgins
H is bossy and dominant
The h seems to enjoy being embarrassed
No big push away but hesitation from h
No OW drama
Some OM drama
No breakups but aside from 2 very brief chance encounters the H/h don’t physically meet until 37%, aside from running into him twice all the communication is entirely e-mail and she’s very inconsistent with replying.
No cliffhanger but no resolution to story
No HEA yet

Safety - there is no cheating. The h does go on a date with pervy coworker. She ends up with a stalker that is identified and resolved by the end of the book. I’d call this a safe read

Romance and thrill. I loved the twists and turns all intertwined with a love story. The MC is relatable and not made to be a "society perfect" woman.
I could not put this book down I read it in a few hours!

Talk about suspense, thrill, and steamy sex! Claire is an awkward quiet girl who just wants some great sex so she posts an ad, which puts Mason in her path as well as a stalker. The intensity from Mason is HOT. I like my book boyfriends to be possessive and will kill anyone who hurts the girl he loves and WHEW does he checks all those boxes. I didn’t expect the last 25% of the book to be so dark, but I’m not complaining. I’m hooked in.

There’s still a lot of secrets to be found out and off to book two I go…

This book was sooooo good! I’m honestly so impressed it started off slow and I had no idea where it was going. There were little breadcrumbs left here and there and you were just wondering how it was going to all tie together! Claire is coming into herself beautifully with the help of the handsome stranger from the library however neither of them realized where it would take them!! I can’t wait for the next one and to see where it’s going to go! I’m so sad that I have to wait.

What a story, Claire throws herself out of her comfort zone and posts an add for a spicy encounter, little does she know what kind of response she will get. I greatly enjoyed the twists and turns of this story, run don’t walk to pick up (or download) this book when it is released March 1, 2022.

I devoured this spicy read. The MCs are so flirty and cute one moment then dark and serious the next. Mason has my entire heart! I was not ready for that ending, and I was guessing through the whole thing.
Start this book early in the day, you will not want to put it down.

Overall I enjoyed this book. The start was a bit slow and I was a bit confused. Claire was relatable, realistic, and witty. Mason is mysterious, alluring, dark, dangerous, and possessive. There were a lot of different things going on and that had me curious to see how things would play out. The chemistry between Claire and Mason was explosive and this was a really quick read. The book does end on a bit of a cliffhanger and I’m excited to continue with The Devil’s Table.

What to expect:
❤ Slow Burn
❤ Billionaire
❤ Touch Her & Die
❤ Dark Past

**ARC was given in exchange for an honest review**

I absolutely loved this book. I devoured it in 2 days because I just couldn't put it down. (I read it on my phone, and I read it EVERYWHERE) We first meet Claire, who is very relatable, real and so down to earth. I just loved her from the very first page. She is witty, charming and captivating. (I can honestly say, I could see a little part of myself in Claire, which I felt was what made the connection with her so honest) Claire goes through some shit throughout this book, and I thought she handled herself very well. As the story unfolds you can really see why she chooses the paths that she does.

Enter Mason! Where to begin with Mason? He's gorgeous, alluring, dark, mysterious, possessive, commanding, dangerous. Did I mention Gorgeous? The way that Aurelia described him left no gaps to be filled in. (She gave you all of him from top to bottom) and the Chemistry between the two of them...

You will definitely catch yourself biting your bottom lip right alongside Claire... I know I did. (Is it possible, to love an Alpha Male to the point where you just want to jump into a book and take the place of the main character?) Aurelia makes you crave and yearn for Mason, as well as appreciate Claire for all that she is. I found myself just obsessed with the entire story.

Holy Smoke Show Batman!

Aurelia supplies you with danger, spice, and the perfect dash of humor throughout this book. There are multiple storylines that unfold throughout the book, and I was definitely curious as to how they would all come together. It doesn't end in a cliffhanger (I mean, I love a good cliffhanger but I felt like this was the perfect way to end this first book) I can honestly say that if you read this book, you will be gripped with every part of your being, begging for more. I cannot wait to see book 2 has to offer.

Aurelia Knight did such an amazing job with this story. I look forward to what comes next for Mason and Claire, as well as what else she has in store in the future!

If you are sleeping on this series...you should probably stop and go grab it. From the first chapter I was obsessed with Claire because I could relate to her so much. Between the clumsiness, the sarcasm, and the food containers, I knew she was going to be my girl. I started falling in love with Mason before I even knew his name...those emails though (iykyk). Their journey is a slow burn, but it doesn't really feel that way because the character development and story line were SO GOOD. Towards the end of the book things start to pick up both in the action and the spice...and boy was it worth the wait! I had so many "WTF?!?!" moments while reading this book that I couldn't put it down.

The way that Claire and Mason meet is unconventional, but also makes sense for who they are as characters. Their interactions are either hilarious, heartfelt, or SPICY AF...sometimes a combination. Claire goes about her mundane life, with a job to pay the bills while she waits for an opening in her dream job. Enter Mason and his filthy mouth. She finally gets her dream job and things are looking up for her...until she realizes she has a stalker. She has no idea who it is, but she constantly feels someone watching her. The pull towards Mason distracts her and makes her forget about the stalker for a short time, but her stalker doesn't take long to escalate his tactics and gain her attention back.

There were some moments when I caught myself yelling at Claire to "pay attention!"...but that just shows how invested I was in this story! The twist at the end has me reeling still and I already have book 2 next to me, ready for me to dive into! Now on to the important stuff...the spice. Good lord have mercy...the club scene...the gym scene...ALL THE SCENES. The spice was top notch and very well written. From the dirty talk to the physical activity...I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. I can't wait to see what kind of bedroom shenanigans they get up to in book 2!!!

This Book Will Having you Thanking Gods

This Book Will Having you Thanking Gods for the gift of Aurelia Knight. The woman's creative mind is clearly genius... This story is just WOW. I'm not sure I've ever clicked the one click button to purchase the rest of the series faster, than I did for this book.

I absolutely adore Mason. He's authoritarian AF, generous, good looking, and a bad boy that takes care of what needs to be done.

Claire is a sweet librarian that has the unfortunate ability to attract disaster...and also Mason, so let's not completely feel sorry for her...because once you read about Mason you'll be wishing you were here. 🔥

Aurelia Knight has the ability to weave magic in her stories; no, this is not a paranormal story, I mean she writes in a way that makes the story come to life. Plus, the steamy scenes could fog every mirror Ina hotel and spontaneously set it ablaze!

Seriously, no joke my friends you need to read this. I'm adding this to my frequent re-read collection...it's that good.

I was so pleasantly surprised with how good this book is!! I honestly couldn’t put it down. There are definitely some triggers involved in this book, but we were warned at the beginning. I wanted to know what happened to the main characters. I don’t think I’ve ever been so invested in characters so quickly. I needed to know who the stalker was! Tyler gave off stalker vibes from the beginning. Such a pig! I definitely guessed who he was but Aurelia definitely left me doubting my foreshadowing skills! But I would’ve never thought that the stalker did what he did or WHY he actually did what he did! The beginning started a little slow, but man it picked up quickly. I stayed up reading until 2:30am and had to force myself to go to bed. I will definitely be reading more from Aurelia! Fantastic!

Claire goes through some s**t in this book! The beginning was a bit slow and slightly confusing but you realize why she acts like she does further in which was super helpful. Mason is a mystery I can’t wait to find out more in the rest of this series, but the chemistry between him and Claire was hot!!!

Don't judge by the cover or cheesy title!

I have to say, with the generic cover and cheesy title I wasn't expecting much more than a corny, generic novel. WOW! I WAS SO WRONG! This book has a little bit of everything: quirky, down-on-her-luck heroine, mysteriously sexy hero, work and family drama, sketchy criminal underground, and and hot romance. Mason and Claire were adorable. The story definitely more than I expected and I absolutely couldn't put it down! Aurelia Knight has a new fan!

Passionate Suspense
I went into this book thinking it was just another easy read, an entertaining romance novel with spice, but it turns out that this author can seriously write!!!

Let me tell you - our fmc is so relatable and real that I fell instantly in love with her - and Mason... Oh dear, Mason is everything you'd ever want in a man - he's tall, dark and handsome, obviously, but he's also mysterious, protective and incredibly attentive. And his dirty talk would make even nuns bend over and lift their skirts to receive his sexy admonishings.

What an incredible book ❤️ I am an instant fan and can't wait to see what happens next.

Claire and Mason

Maybe Hiring is a book that has several different story lines going at once that make the overall story. We have our main, nerdy girl Claire and our dominant man Mason, who together bring out the better parts of each other. This does have some steamy scenes that fall into kink categories, but nothing crazy or over the top.

I felt that while the author did a great job storytelling, there was more going on than there needed to be. If they focused on one thing for the entire book, it would've been better.

Found this book from TikTok…and sad to say it was a huge let down. It got exciting towards the end, but I’ll be honest death/murder/kidnapping isn’t for me. Also falling in love after two weeks? Come on. I know books like this aren’t supposed to be realistic but this was so unbelievable it had me rolling my eyes reading

I absolutely loved this book. I loved the mix between romantic comedy and romantic suspense. I immediately fell in love with Claire as a character and loved watching her development throughout the book.

I loved the direction the book went in the end. I had a general idea of the twist for this but the reasoning behind it completely caught me off guard but I loved it.

I loved them chemistry between the main characters, the interactions between them, the side characters, and the overall plot of the entire book.

DNF @ 62%

- I found the book very slow & boring. There is a bit of comedy thrown in, but overall the pace was tedious and couldn't get into the characters.

- I didn't really care for Claire. Sadly the book was only in her POV and her inner dialogues & monologues were boring-af 😴

- I found the bantering back and forth emails between Claire & Mason before they hooked up pretty amusing. But I skimmed most of her long-winded inner ramblings in-between.
- Word of the day: dick-tionary
• pg 57 🍆 I'm stroking this for you. Will you put me in your dick-tionary now? 🤣

- While her giving Tyler a piece of her mind in front of the rest if the staff about the rumors he was spreading was entertaining, I thought the whole situation was too drawnout.

Maybe Hiring is the first in the three-book series Illicit Library Collection. This was 3.5 stars for me, I enjoyed the characters and the story idea I just felt it was a little slow or confusing in some parts. The premise intrigued me, and I'm keen to go back for more of Claire and Mason's story.

Claire isn't having any luck getting her dream job as a librarian after completing her studies and the job she was enjoying has ended. Her love life is lacking, her friends are nonexistent and her family only makes her life harder.

Mason is mysterious, secretive, hot as sin, and rich enough to buy half the town. He finds an instant attraction to Claire and lucks upon her more than once. With a clear chance laid out in front of him, he takes it.

The two bounce around each other a bit and finally take the leap. Of course, all his secrets end up causing them trouble, and the danger surrounding Claire could also tear them apart.

As far as dark romance goes this is on the light side with a few darker moments. There is potential for this to grow darker as the series progresses and there are a lot of unanswered questions at the end of this book. I wouldn't say it's a huge cliffhanger just questions that will have you wanting more.

Looking forward to seeing where this story goes and what secrets are hidden in the library.
.
.
.
Claire's luck just goes from bad to worse. She loses her job, takes one just to keep paying the bills, is hit on by a colleague who spreads rumors about her that the whole office believes and when she steps out of her comfort zone deciding to just go for what she wants for a change she ends up with more creeps than she imagined and embarrassing herself in front of a guy that is the first to really catch her attention in a long time.

When Claire runs into the mystery man at the library yet again she finds out he knows about the ad she placed and actually answered her. The two begin to talk via the app she used and there are some definite sparks there they even get past the no-names and make formal introductions hoping to take things further. Claire's luck drags her down though and she pushes Mason away.

Luck finally swings Claire's way and she's in the library at the right time as the current Librarian quits she makes her introduction in an attempt to get her dream career started. When this falls into place she reaches out to Mason again hoping for a second chance.
'I met that person in a library basement and every spare thought I had since was devoted to him. His voice, his face, the strength and grace in his body all stuck in my head like a catchy tune.'

Nothing is as it seems though. Strange threatening notes are showing up at the library. The head of the library is around an unusual amount and he has no reason that Claire can see. She is warned that things aren't what they seem and to watch out for herself by the previous librarian. All in all Claire's perfect career is taking some unexpected turns.

When it all becomes too much Claire won't know who to trust and what the truth is anymore. Mason may lose her before he even has his chance to show her just how important she is to him.

Happy Reading.

There is so much going on in this story I don't even know where to start. Claire loses her job in the basement of city hall and she finds another job with an online college. She has one date with a coworker (Tyler), but decides she doesn't want to see him anymore. He trashes her to everyone there and she is let go. She just happens to be at the library (where she is immensely qualified to work) when a librarian quits and she talks herself into a trial job. She loves working at the library.

Claire also met (bumped into) Mason at the library. Claire decides she going to place an ad looking for a relationship. She is contacted by Mason via the ad and they have some dirty flirty moments. They email back and forth and ultimately start a relationship. Mason opens up to Claire more than he has with anyone else and they do develop a genuine bond. But there is so much more to Mason that meets the eye -- from his own past to the dealings of his father. There's also what happened to his mother and his former girlfriend. Can Claire trust him to keep her and her heart safe?

I love Claire even though I think she's a bit naive about Mason. She gets herself into trouble by going out on her own and she doesn't listen to Mason when he is trying to protect her. I get that he's bossy about it but girl, seriously, he is looking out for you. I think Mason is redeemable and that he's trying to be good, but circumstances keep pulling him back to the darker side. We'll have to see through the rest of the series.
