The death of a fun-loving young jeweller seems to come as a shock to all who knew her. Family and friends can name nobody she was at odds with and nothing that was troubling her. Physical evidence also proves hard to come by, thanks to a fire that tore through the building shortly after her death.
As the days pass, it becomes clear to DS Rebecca Palmer and DCI Lawrence Forrester that the woman was not living the charmed life that those close to her would have them believe. Her estranged father has previously been charged with murder, the man whose photograph stood at her bedside denies knowing her and a recent social-media spat culminated in an alarmingly prescient threat.
Most incredibly, despite the fact one of her sisters hasn’t been seen in years, nobody has ever reported her missing.
Sadie Gordon Richmond works as a subeditor — possibly the only job where you can find yourself legitimately consulting a map of Middle-earth and watching videos of armadillos during the working day. She lives in London with her partner and their cats, but dreams of one day setting up home in north east Scotland. You can follow Sadie on Instagram @sadiegordonrichmond_author and Facebook.
Always so rewarding to pick up a book when you just know it is going to be a satisfying investment of your precious reading time. And there is no author as reliably good than Sadie Gordon Richmond.
I have read many of the books in her London series (this one is book 7) and never been disappointed. It’s like picking up with friends who you do not see regularly but, on meeting, you are immediately interested in their lives. In this case, those friends are the lead characters, DS Rebecca Palmer and DCI Lawrence Forrester because the author makes them so vividly real in the imagination by her prose.
And the plots are always so incredibly engaging, challenging (for the reader to crack) and intriguing.
The Ties That Bind combines all of this as the team are tested to solve the murder of a jeweler who, initially, would appear to have no cause to have been targeted in such a brutal way. But, things are not always what they seem from the start.
Highly recommend The Ties That Bind as both a standalone read or if it your first, then a trigger to read more in this excellent series.
I have previously read the first two books in this series and enjoyed them and this was no different. i probably should have read more as things have changed within the team and their lives in the meantime. However, it didn't make much of a difference as I found it quick to pick up and didn't impact the story.
I was hooked from the start of this and read it in just over a day. I think it was the idea that someone could go missing from a family for so long and the family didn't appear concerned or even reported this, that grabbed me. I was then determined to keep reading to find out what was going on.
I like the characters in this series. I also find the writing style keeps me interested and engaged and look forward to reading more in the series. I will also go back and read the previous books I have missed out on.
This is the first book by Sadie Gordon Richmond I have read and I plan to go back and read the rest.
The story follows the investigation of a fire in a block of flats that uncovers a murder of a young woman. The story line had me guessing throughout and I didn’t for a second consider the actual murderer as a suspect or how the fire had started.
I really liked Rebecca, Leighton and the rest of the team and found them all relatable.
I did have to look up a quite a few words as Sadie used a few words I was unfamiliar with (thank goodness for the dictionary on kindle) but overall a good read.
It took a little bit in the beginning to figure out who each of the characters were. There were so many thrown in at the same time. But once you get into the story, you start to remember who's who. There were clues and I really enjoyed piecing it together. That's not to say that it was easy and it took me nearly to the end to figure it out. Well written and I thought very believable, I look forward to read more from this author.
