In the words of Craig Revel Horwood “This book is FAB-U-LOUS”.
Over the years, I’ve heard so many conspiracy theories following the death of Hitler - or the not so dead Hitler (if any of the theories are to be believed), that I thought the concept of this story would intrigue and fascinate me. I wasn’t wrong. What a page-turner! The writing style is excellent and I was hooked from the beginning. The author has created a totally plausible, clever plot, with a well-paced story that flows beautifully between the characters, locations and timeframes. If you like a story that’s full of mystery, secrets and action, then Codename Edelweiss is for you.
It’s a well deserved 5🌟review from me.
Thank you to Anne at Random Things Tours and Unicorn Publishing Group for providing me with a print copy in exchange for my own honest review.
When I first saw this book I knew it was one I wanted to read, there have been many conspiracies and theories following the death of Hitler. Did he really die? Did he get out of Germany? I do love a good conspiracy book and this one sounded right up my street.
The author has taken the concept that Hitler and Eva Braun did indeed survive and made a voyage to start a new life in South America. Many made this journey some for survival and some to escape any repercussions. Many stories have circulated over the years and there is something about a conspiracy that intrigues me.
The story is one that sounds plausible and one that I found extremely addictive. From a journalist taking a statement from a priest to discovering the whereabouts of a secret camp, the political, religious and moral aspects are covered. Set over several years from WWII to the 1970s the story fills in an action-packed adventure style read.
As the synopsis suggests. this book takes in various organisations, including Mossad, the Vatican and a newspaper. Politics are also woven into this as you would expect as well. The author has created a story that flows so well between the many characters and locations. It is one that is taken through scenarios that have implications for the world and for those immediately involved. While the story is about the search for Hitler's son, the author also includes life in Argentina in the 70s, the political stage.
I found this book to be very well-paced and the tension was amazing not everything turned out as I thought it might. I did like the way the author finished this story, it answered questions raised and felt right in some ways.
This is one for those who enjoy a proper action and adventure style read with conspiracies, secrets, and mysteries that need to be revealed. A fabulous book to read and one that I would definitely recommend.
What a great read. There have always been conspiracy theories about whether Hitler really died in the Führerbunker and this book makes the assumption that he did in fact escape. So well written this was one of those book where it was ‘ just one more chapter’ I was totally engrossed from the start. Well written and fast paced with threads that weave themselves together seamlessly to the unexpected conclusion.
Briefly, 1945: a u-boat sets sail from Denmark to Argentina. On board Adolf Hitler, Eva Braun, Martin Bormann and other members of the Nazi Party. Arriving in Argentina they set up a new Wolfs lair in the jungle. A baby is born but is taken away by the nursemaid. In turn the village suffer severe reprisals but the baby vanishes. 1976: a journalist in Buenos Aires is given an interview by a Jesuit priest which discloses the events of 1945-46 but he doesn’t mention the child just Codename edelweiss. Meantime the body count was mounting as various politically and religiously motivated parties try to get their hands on the now grown up child.
The repercussions involved the Argentinian junta, Nazi party fanatics, Israel and the Vatican and as you can imagine the actions taken by some are less than pleasant, but it is not unnecessarily graphic. Brilliant story using historical fact alongside fiction and I will be looking out for more from this author ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Codename Edelweiss is a conspiracy thriller that fired my imagination straight away. For as long as I can remember there has always been the conspiracy theories that Hitler didn't die in his bunker. The questions such as how did he get out and where did he go?
This is a book that works on the idea that he did. He escaped with Eva Braun and they travelled to Argentina to start afresh. Justin Kerr-Smiley writes this story so well that I could really believe this happened. There are so many theories around and this story is more realistic than most theories that I have heard.
Set from the end of World War Two and spanning the years to the 1970s. This is a tale of the search for Hitlers child, and what an exhilarating and addictive read I found it to be. The agencies and organisations that get involved, range from the Vatican to the Argentinian Junta. Inbetween there are various unsavoury characters, and Israel too. As you can imagine the ripple of repercussions aren't the nicest especially when you discover all of the different factions that are part of the story.
Codename Edelweiss is a book that I found a riveting read. It's based on historical fact, then, brilliantly woven together with unexpected twists and an ending that fitted perfectly. I will be looking out for this author's work from now on.
When I was young, I watched television programmes about the search for Nazi officers who had escaped justice at the end of World War Two. Growing up, I had an interest in the Nuremberg trials of captured Nazi war criminals, and later as a soldier in West Berlin, I even guarded Spandau Prison, where the last Nazi in captivity, Rudolph Hess, was held until his death in 1987.
Then I heard about this book, Codename Edelweiss, and my attention was instantly piqued. What more could you need? Hitler and Eva Braun survived the fall of Berlin? A child? A Fourth Reich? Spanning three decades and with locations from Argentina to the Vatican, this compelling read left me exhilarated. The rich story flowed so well that the pages could almost have turned themselves. The author has woven such a tale that it felt almost real, like a dramatisation of real events. Amazing story telling.
This was a brilliant book which currently sits in my top ten reads of 2022 and will remain with me long after I have read my next book. I recommend this book to anyone looking for a thrill, with a dash of history and speculative fiction thrown in. I gave Codename Edelweiss, by Justin Kerr-Smiley, five points.
