Gary Butler is about to become the first sixth grader in Fairmount to ever jump the Devil’s Well; a forty-foot cliff dive into the icy black water below. This Rite of Passage is not for the feint of heart, but if Gary pulls it off, he will no doubt become a living legend at his school and in the eyes of Sarah Meyers. Gary Butler isn’t the first boy to make a foolish decision to impress a girl. And although he won’t be the last, he just might end up a legend after all.
Daemon Manx is an author with a backstory. He is a recovering addict who spent nearly a decade in the prison system, where he focused on recovery and learned to perfect his horror writing craft. He has been featured in magazines in the US, the UK, and Germany and, in 2021, was nominated for a Splatterpunk award for his book Abigail. Daemon is the author of the Ojanox series, endorsed by Scream Queen actress, Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp). He was a bonus round winner on the gameshow Wheel of Fortune in 1999 and is infamously known for a motor vehicle accident involving President Ronald Reagan’s limousine. After struggling with addiction and incarceration, Daemon now uses his story to illustrate the positive outcome of sobriety and offer a glimpse at what life can be like when one receives a second chance.
When you are young you want to be remembered, be noticed, etched in stone become a legend.... but at what cost? Daemon Manx is a fucking awesome storyteller and shows it in this short vivid emotional story. I highly recommend this quick read
THE DEVILS WELL, which is a dark tale of peer pressure, with a tense atmosphere, and a horrifying yet sad ending! The descriptions were so vivid, I went through every moment and emotion with Gary! 🖤
If you havent read any Daemon Manx yet, do so, you wont regret it!
A short quick to read story that went places I didn't imagine. I love being surprised by a book, just when you are sure you know what will happen, bam! Daemon Manx seems to be a master at this and this one is no different. If you're looking for something short as a break between other books, give this one a go.
I really enjoyed this story. I mean, really, who hasn’t done something stupid for love, but you usually live to regret it, right? And there’s the rub. Thank you, Mr. Manx, for another exciting read.
I recommend this author again and again.
It was my pleasure to receive a free copy of this book, but that does not affect my opinions in this review of this entertaining story.
I've never read anything by this author before, but was well-pleased by this story. The characters had the touch of realism that's hard to achieve in such a brief format. I'd love to read it as a full length novel.
This book was the shortest suspenseful book I have ever read. It was a great short, entertaining read that was packed with suspense and the not-knowing that kept the reader anxious till the end.
