Alpha Attacked

Rate this book
This wolf is biting the bullet of love.

Working in the ER, Maeve has seen some weird stuff, like the guy with numerous gunshot wounds who literally hops off the operating table and walks out. Which isn’t as strange as the people who claim they saw a wolf running out the main doors of the hospital. All par for the course on a full-moon shift.

What Maeve doesn’t know is she saved the life of the local Alpha.

Griffin is tough, and those who tried to kill him will regret their failure, because he is now out for revenge. The problem is identifying the enemy. Is it the rival wolf gang over the river, or a stranger trying to steal his Pack?

The answer appears to be tangled up with the doctor who operated on him. A woman with a delectable scent—and secrets.

What does Maeve have to do with the violence targeting his Pack?

And what will the sexy doctor say when she realizes he doesn’t just howl in bed?

DNF At 22% (Audiobook)

I don't know something about the characters or maybe it was the way the story was written really rubbed me the wrong way. I disliked the heroine right off the bat after she introduced herself as a doctor and then proceeded to shame people who went to her ER in pain and seeking pain relief as drug addicts. The hero is just meh. Granted at 22% he had maybe 10 minutes of scene time. Overall, I thought I would love this and ended up DNFing it. Life is too short to push myself to read books I don't enjoy.

Alpha Attacked by Eve Langlais
Big City Lycans series #1. Paranormal wolf shifter romance.
Maeve is a doctor in the ER. Things get crazy when it’s a full moon. That night she saves a man with multiple gunshots and bullets still inside him. Once she’s removed the bullets, he’s out the door. No sutures, no pain reliever. Weird. Probably drugs. Someone reports seeing a massive dog leaving through the automatic doors a short time later. Someone else says it was a wolf. What a night.
Griffin, as alpha of his pack, is strong and in charge. Getting shot was a nuisance but meeting his mate will change his life. The sweet smelling doctor seems to be in the middle of a war. Griffin will protect her. And more.

Danger for Maeve escalates and Griffin is there to help and figure out all the twists and connections. He’s a little bossy and dominating, but he is alpha.
Maeve is smart. She deals with most of the surprises with practicality. The heat and lust between her and Griffin is hot.
Maeve is a little too accepting at times. Bullet wounds don’t heal in a couple of days and as a doctor I would have expected her to question that more. She acknowledges it and then buries it in the back of her mind.

As usual with this author, there is a tease for the next book in the series as part of the text on the last page. If you don’t want to know whose book is next, skip the last paragraph.

It’s not deep. It’s not profound. It is a hot, werewolf shifter romance and fun to read or listen to. Entertaining escapism. I look forward to reading more of this series.

🎧 I listened to an audiobook version of this book narrated by Juniper Young. The performance was fantastic as there are very distinct voices for the male and female roles. The male voice is a bit husky and I want to say, suave, but not quite hitting the mark of sexy male. There is a lot of innuendo in the tone. The female voices were strong and on point. Overall, I enjoyed the narration as a good alternative to reading. I did speed up the narration to 1.5 after a chapter or two at 1.0 which was too slow for me conversationally.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Tantor Audio.

If you like a handsome hero that is all alpha male and big all over then you are going to love Griffin! Do you love your heroine to be smart and sassy, then you are going to love Maeve! Add in an entire pack of witty, rough and tumble werewolves combined with a sharp tongued and outspoken best friend and you have the makings for a fun read or listen in my case as this book is meant to entertain! You've got opposites attract and verbally spar situation right from the start and it goes on right up to the end. Lots of twists and turns to the plot to keep you entertained with plenty of action in and out of the bedroom so this one should go on your list. I'm hoping that we get to see a bit more of the best friend and Detective Gruff in a future book so let's cross our fingers for that one to come out soon!

It wasn't anything but usual in the ER when Maeve is called in to work on a gunshot victim. It all changes though when her patient wakes up and hightails it out of there. Maeve has no idea Griffin is a shifter or an Alpha. When she becomes involved in the war that is building around his pack, Griffin steps in to protect her. What neither plan on is the attraction between them.

This was fun, I thought the chemistry between Maeve and Griffin was not as sizzling as I had hoped. Had a ton of characters I wanted to know more about. Would pick up the next book.

I received an advanced reader’s copy (audio) of Alpha Attacked by Eve Langlais in exchange for an honest review.

This book sounded like something I would absolutely love. Werewolves protecting a doctor, romance, ... The plot definitely has promise, however the execution just isn't that great. Both the story and characters lack depth and development.

TI did however really love the narrator for the audiobook.

1/5 stars, listened as an audiobook. This was pretty bad ahaha the plot moved way to fast and wasn’t very plausible. Also Maeve, is kind of not a great person either (i.e. talking poorly about addicts, etc).

Let me preface this by saying I’m a fan of paranormal romance, but not necessarily mafia romance. This one definitely feels a lot like a mafia romance. The hero is an overly protective drug dealing (legally) alpha werewolf. I listened to the audiobook and he sounded really smarmy. And honestly his actions bordered on stalkerish. Not over the top but it did raise my eyebrows at first.

Really enjoyed this urban/ modern paranormal romance. So many times paranormal romance books are set in older times which is much less entertaining. I am impressed. Even Dexter is mentioned. Things like this make the story so much more realistic. Thank you

I know this is a novella and so there isn't really time to develop things a whole lot, but having Maeve go from crazy guy she operates on, to her stalker, to sleeping with him in a couple dozen pages is too much. I didn't think there was any chemistry between them and found Griffin to be an asshole. I wish this could have just been even fifty pages longer so we could see a relationship unfold.

The lycan parts weren't explained that well and I don't understand why Maeve doesn't get to know about them (as far as I understood anyway.) I think there was an okay idea here, but it needs some revision and more content added to be good.

The audiobook narrator was fine with Maeve's parts, but terrible at Griffin's. Read the ebook instead.

I voluntarily read and reviewed this book. All opinions are my own. Thank you to Tantor Audio and NetGalley for the copy

Woo hoo, a new shifter series, and one with some grit! Loved meeting these new characters, finding out the new lore, and finding out what problems they face. Maeve and Griff meet unconventionally, but he soon realizes his problems are the same as her problems, just in different ways. Convincing her to let her help her, in conjunction with their growing attraction, he definitely has his work cut out for him. Another awesome aspect was, that while out couple most definitely get their HEA, everything isn’t all tied up neat and tidy, and there are still some messy stuff to come 😊

Juniper Young narrates Eve Langlais’ paranormal werewolf romance Alpha Attacked, book 1, in her new Big City Lycans series. I thoroughly enjoyed this exciting, action-packed, steamy romance from beginning to end. An ER doctor, Maeve, has seen a lot of weird and crazy things. But a man jumping off her operating table while she’s trying to remove six bullets and leaving the OR is new. That full-moon shift is topped off with claims of a wolf running out the hospital’s main doors soon after.

It turns out that the man whom Maeve saves is Griffin, the local Alpha. Fortunately for his Pack, Griffin’s a resilient wolf. Not so much for whoever tried to kill Griffin because he survived and will get his revenge when he discovers who’s responsible. Is it someone trying to steal his Pack? The rival wolf gang across the river? Or someone unknown to him and his Pack? After saving Griffin’s life, unknown assailants threaten and attack Maeve. Who is his beautiful, sexy, and delicious-smelling savior? What secrets is she hiding, and are they connected to the attempt on his life and the danger and violence threatening his Pack? Griffin has secrets, too, like how he howls in and out of bed. But it’s one that he and his kind try to keep closely guarded.

Young wonderfully brings Langlais’ original story and deftly developed, fascinating characters to life with vibrant and expressive narration. She’s a fantastic narrator whose chosen voices and narration perfectly fit the characters, especially Maeve, Griffin, and the villain. With accents, dialects, pacing, tone, intonation, and emotion, Young gives the characters distinct voices, revealing their personalities, feelings, quirks, and state of mind throughout the novel. Her dramatic narration that captures the characters’ emotions drew me into the story from the first scene, and before I knew it, I was halfway through the novel. Young does such a great job voicing the men that it’s easy to believe there are different narrators. The novel’s tone ranges from humorous, dark, and thrilling to intimate, sizzling hot, and angsty, and Young deftly shifts between these tones. She brilliantly expresses Maeve and Griffin’s attraction, desire, and passion for each other. And she uses her full vocal range to express/portray the intimacy between characters and their chemistry, sensations, and moods during the novel’s intimate scenes. The narration for the characters is distinct, so it’s easy to tell which characters are speaking in each moment, scene, and chapter.

Young’s lively narration complements Langlais’ snarky, introspective, emotional, and dynamic narrative style, delightfully bringing her exciting novel and fascinating characters to life. For a somewhat short book, Langlais’ worldbuilding and character development are skillful, and her mythology for the wolves is a bit different. But she leaves you wanting to learn more about this intriguing world and its characters. I love Griffin’s smart-mouthed, sexy, aloof, grumpy alpha, don’t mess with me vibes. Maeve’s a good match for him. She’s so self-sufficient, independent, sarcastic, and unbothered by Griffin’s alpha, controlling tendencies. And despite being super suspicious of his motives, she doesn’t get all up in his business trying to figure out the oddities of his biology or lifestyle beyond thinking he’s a mobster/drug dealing criminal—he runs a business legally selling marijuana. It’s interesting. I love their banter and sexy, sweet, funny, and steamy interactions. Langlais nicely rounds out the novel with a fascinating supporting cast. I like Maeve’s best friend and co-worker, Brandy. She’s sharp, funny, and way more curious and savvier about the supernatural world than Maeve. Griffin’s Pack mates are also intriguing.

While Langlais’ suspenseful story has one or two surprising twists, the ending feels more like the beginning of an intricate and exciting journey, which I look forward to experiencing. Alpha Attacked is a sexy, fast-paced, entertaining, and quick PNR read with a nice blend of steamy romance, action, suspense, and humor, exploring themes of family, soulmates, following your dreams, crime, and vigilantism.

Honestly, it's a very good book. It is a short story. The narrator's are amazing, and you feel like you are right in the story. I loved how the book starts and ends. It is an interesting listen. I did have a point where I was like, wait, what, and I had to rewind to listen to it again. I heard this is supposed to be a series, and honestly, I'm excited and can't wait to see what comes next.

Kind of read like more of a mafia story where the head bosses can turn into wolves.

Fun, and definitely a different take on most werewolf books I’ve read. The epilogue was too rushed though and I’m pretty sure Maeve still thinks she was dreaming the wolves?? I don’t think Griffin ever explained things to her??

I listened to this via audiobook.

The overall story was good. I love the kick ass doctors, the weed store owner, and the who-done-it aspect.

It's fast paced with action and the 🥵 scenes were done pretty well.

I do feel like the book was very rushed at the end and I feel like there were some things missing that would have brought closure to the story.

To be fair, The beginning was okay, but after a while not so much. It felt flat, nothing special about it. maybe because I had so much expectations for this book…
I’ve not read a book about werewolves in a while so you can imagine how excited I was.

“This wolf is biting the bullet of love.“

Listen, no one expects deep characters, a well-crafted plot, nor inspired prose from a shifter novella, but also:

I EXPECT DEEP CHARACTERS, A WELL-CRAFTED PLOT, AND INSPIRED PROSE FROM A SHIFTER NOVELLA.

It’s probably obnoxious of me to want a paranormal romance to have any basis in reality, but to have her go from “I’m your doctor, and you are my stalker patient.” to “We should bone.” in the matter of a couple pages of bad dialogue was too much of a stretch.

I couldn’t even get into the sex scenes, as lines like, “the fat head of his big d*ck” caused more rolled eyes than clenched thighs.

This looks like it’ll be the start of a series. I’ll be passing on any further installments.

1/10

When Meeve has to work on an u on anesthetized man with six gunshots she fears he may wake up due to pain but when Griffin wakes up during surgery he seems more aggravated than anything else. Then when he decides to get up and leave the surgery ward she doesn’t know what to say. The next day gangster‘s approach her asking about a package and wanting to know the last time she spoke to her dad but the problem is she’s never met her dad and never received any package. It seems the effects of the full moon will last days because strange events continue to happen and It leads back to Griffin but what does this all have to do with Meeve’s dad? She met him trying to save his life but he will save hers in the end and much much more. I love the shape shifter books and I enjoyed this one but found they use profanity way too much and I found it unnecessary. Even the elderly security guard use the F word and I don’t want to be a prude and I’m not trying to be one of those people but growing up I was always told people use those words for lack of better words to use and in the real world not every person you meet use as suck profanity. Okay I said that let me say this I love detective Groff… Don’t like his name but love him and thought they had some really lovable characters in this new series and I would definitely be looking forward to the next book but hope the author can tone down the unnecessary use a bass vocabulary. As for this book I highly recommend that if you love Shapeshifting books an abnormal romances you should definitely read alpha attack. Juniper Young adds a whole new layered texture to the text she has a great voice and one I enjoyed listening to a total five star performance from her.I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

I enjoyed this book. I really liked the female lead. She is intelligent, strong, and independent. The male lead left a bit to be desired. He's hot and a alpha. That's it. He doesn't have much of a personality. While it's understandable that he would fall for her, there is no reason why she would fall for him. He's uneducated, a "mobster", and she repeatedly calls him a drug dealer even though he own a very legal weed dispensary. Even at the end of the book she still regards him as a gangster. It was very much unearned instalove, but I guess wolf magic made her love a complete stranger who she looks down on. I also thought it was silly that she doesn't seem to know he's a wolf, but her best friend does. I did like the world building, and I am very curious about what is in that grimoire. If the next book follows her bestie I am all in.

This Shifter Gang Romance transported me to the early 00s wandering the Mass Market Paperback shelves of a Barnes and Noble. While predictable, it was also comforting, almost making it a cozy romance experience.
I will totally read the rest of this series.

Wow, this book was downright horrifying. I'm really just speechless with the things wrong with the H and h's relationship. With the world building. Just all of it. And the plotting was just all over the place. Nobody's actions really made any sense. The villain's motivations were never explained.

Alpha Attacked de Eve Langlais serie Big City Lycans libro 1

Argumento:

Alpha Attacked is an exciting and thrilling adventure into the world of werewolves. We are dumped head first into a huge mess that already involves blood, so we know that lives are on the line. When snap decisions are required to move forward, we know what surrounds us is both life threatening and life changing in the most violent and ground-breaking ways. Nothing will ever be the same again and some truths will come to the harsh light of day at a steep price.

Maeve is just having another day when she finds Griffin in her ER. He brings an ominous air with him that makes her hesitate to jump head first into anything involving him. However, she can't deny that some part of her knows that he would protect her and never let anything hurt her. Moving on rusty instincts, she reluctantly steps into his world in order to find some measure of safety and comfort. Griffin knows there is something about Maeve that he just can't shake, and when he figures out what it is, her life is never the same again. He steps up to be her protector, but she has to accept him and his help if she hopes to survive the coming storm. Will those who hide in the shadows take what is most precious to Griffin, or can Maeve move past the warnings of her mind to accept what her heart knows to be true before time runs out and she loses more then she ever thought possible?

Griffin and Maeve shouldn't work, but when they come together it is truly whiskey and roses mixed with the sweet strains of music. They have a wild and untamed passion that will no be denied, and once they have a taste, they are not able to fight against it. There is more to Griffin then she ever thought possible, and that truth is the only thing that saves them both. These two have more then just the present to fight against. They are also forced to confront their past and either accept it, change it, or walk on by and forget it.

Eve Langlais opens a wicked and wild glimpse into a world within our world that is sure to delight and entrance. I have only read a few books by this fabulous author, but I have sincerely and deeply loved each one. They dig into the very heart of the characters, and they don't let go until there is nothing but truth left. That singular obsession has endeared her work to me without fail. I truly cannot wait to read more books by her!

Juniper Young brought life and wonder to her narration of this wonderful story. I enjoyed her immense talent, and I look forward to listening to more books with her direction.

This book seemed like it would be interesting werewolf getting shot and meeting a doctor and falling for her. It started out good but it was kinda a bunch of nonsense.... beware of spoilers not that it would matter much...

Maeve a doctor treats a man shot 6 times who gets up out of the emergency room and leaves once the bullets are out. She reports it but doesn’t really think much about it until the next day when some guys threaten her in the parking lot asking for a box from her estranged father that she does not have. Griffin the werewolf wants to know who shot him and why and how the doctor somehow seems mixed up in it. Basically that’s the story it doesn’t really get more complicated than that. People want the box that she eventually gets and keep attacking her for it. Which was rather annoying considering for most of the book she didn’t have it and yet these pitiful thugs constantly were threatening to cut off her fingers. Does it never occur to people that someone is answering you truthfully? Especially when they have no idea what it is you want? In fact Maeve points out to Antonio if he had just asked her for it she would have given it to him. Thus saving everyone from a bunch of nonsense because it really made no sense. If he didn’t send people to bother her prior to receiving the box then he could have just gotten it.

The most ridiculous part of the book was the fact that Maeve never found out that Griffin, her father and almost all the bad guys coming after her were werewolves. She thinks they are part of sone type of mafia and they just keep letting her believe that when her best friend knows they are werewolves. I get that Griffin had some bad experiences with revealing his secret before but Maeve is a doctor though to be honest her dumb butt didn’t ask enough questions. Like how could someone who was shot multiple times have no evidence of it happening on their body? Nobody heals like that it’s not possible so why did she just brush it off? So bizarre that made no sense and neither did not telling her but the whole story was one of complete nonsense. And any odd thing that can be hit or miss but it sounded interesting and was the first thing I saw on netgalley so I gave the audio a try. It’s not that long requires zero investment and full of nonsense so it’s something to listen to if you are bored. If you are looking for something with any kind of depth or character development or plot probably don’t read/listen to this author at all you will be disappointed. This was not by far the worst book of hers I’ve experienced.

I believe this book is self published. This is not one of those books that would get picked up by traditional publishing. It’s a decent effort from the author, but it is very basic storytelling. It tries to be spicy, but it fizzles more than it’s hot. And some of the word choices by the author are childish. If something about hearing a grown woman say dong when referring to a man’s general area that just is a massive turn off. Plus, the werewolf shifter war that the author chooses to use is lacking in credibility. Add that the main character is a drug dealer and is often referred to that way, even though he is currently a legal pot dealer is just another turn off. It’s a lot of high school style writing.
Let’s talk specifically about the audiobook. The narrator does a decent job, narrating women characters, and side characters. But the voice that she affects for the main male character is so annoying. I almost DNF this very short book. She gives the character a Matthew McConaughey draw mixed in with 1920s gangster. Heck maybe not 1920s maybe just jersey style gangster. Highly highly annoying because it makes the main character sound like a giant douche bag. I did make it to the end of this book. And while I like some of the characters, I can’t get past the flaws of the book as a hole. Some examples, particularly from the end, the doctor leaves their hospital to open their own clinic, but manage to open an entire health clinic in a depressed area in a month. I mean that shouldn’t be surprising since the entire book is Insta love. The entire book takes place in approximately three or four days and you know it’s pretty soon that they’re engaged and then have their wedding. I won’t lie. I’m a tiny tad bit interested in the next book for the one character that I really liked, but not enough to sit through this again. I think with more practice, more beta readers, more editing. The author can get better, but I don’t know if they can get better by the time this book series comes to an end.
