I've enjoyed this series about a witch family. This third finds them searching through time for their escaped psychopathic warlock father. While the story itself was entertaining, there were quite a few errors towards the third half of the book that I couldn't tell if they were editing errors or sloppy writing. Whole words and phrases were repeated in sentences and whole words and phrases were left out of sentences. Characters randomly appeared and disappeared in the action. Whatever the cause, it disrupted the flow of the story and pulled the reader out of the narrative.
The left-over threads of Sarah Jane's mother and father are finally wrapped up. After getting a 100-year-old case to solve Sarah Jane and her sister inherit an old rundown winery that has been in her father's family for more than a century. Sarah Jane hopes they can find her father's family sorcerers journal in hope of figuring out where he time traveled to as she knows he is continuing killing to harvest souls to gain his strength back. Sarah Jane will do anything to stop him even including time traveling to the past where he is hiding.
This review is for this book and the series thus far. I really think this series would make a better television show than book series. It’s quite a superficial read. The main female character by book 3 drives me bananas. What person would not welcome and listen to spirit guides, especially ones who warn your actions could cause harm and heartbreak to your loved ones?! And we are supposed to believe it is just because SJ is stubborn? A hard sell for me except for the fact that as a mother she has zero consideration for her children in this series… which goes back to my first point of it being superficial. Also.. we get it, you don’t eat sugar! Why this had to mentioned so often with an explanation in book three that took up all of a sentence is beyond me. There are definitely frustrating parts and continuity errors in terms of the magic used in these books. It all is just a little too convenient and nice for a novel series for me.
I love this author. I have been waiting for this one and now that I’m finished I’m so excited to see there will be another.
This series is so good, I love that Sarah Jane is close to my age and a total bada$$. I’m a big fan of paranormal crime mysteries. And this series hits all the points plus I love how solid her family is. The bond with her sisters, her Gran, her kids is awesome.
I do love Sarah Jane's character as well as all of the others. Her father is a dark and interesting character. The inheritance of the house and the winery drew me in and held my attention. My only criticism is the poor editing. There were enough mistakes and incorrect sentences that it detracted from the story. I would like to read some more in-depth romance in these books. I have read all of Wendy Wang's books and will continue to do so.
What a wonderful series this is! Wendy Wang has, yet again, created a wonderful world where Sarah Jane and Andy take a fantastic journey. With the aid of her family, spirit guide, a sorcerer, and 2 reapers, they are able to achieve the impossible. This is not only a heart warming book, but one filled with page turning action. I will say, I found myself cheering at the end, but, you will have to read it to find out why.
I was unsure about reading this book as I loved all 6 books of the Witches of Palmetto. I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed reading about Sarah Jane and her sisters. The story grabs you right from the start and keeps you interested all the way through. I really liked all the characters as they were introduced. I will be looking to read more of Sarah Jane’s adventures as well as the Palmetto witches when they come out!! Thank you Wendy Wang!
If you have read any of Wendy Wang's novels you already know how truly gifted she is at writing. With the scenes appearing in my head and the dialogue pulling me into the story ever deeper, I find that movie in my head that plays out as the plot and characters entertain. If you haven't read any of Wang's books, prepare yourself for the ride and enjoy. Happy reading.
I do love this Book 3, Witch in Eclipse: Midlife Spirit Guides Paranormal Women's Fiction by one of my now favourite authors, Wendy Wang.
This is an exciting, tension filled adventure as Sarah Jane, who is a San Jose detective and witch, goes back in time with her DOL boyfriend Andy to catch her father and return him to prison.
The story is full of twists and turns as it reaches its unexpected conclusion. I am so glad there is to be a Book 4!
I always, always, always enjoy a Wendy Wang story. Sarah Jane isn't my favorite character, I actually find her a bit unlikable in general, but that's neither here nor there; I just remind myself that her heart is in the right place. She weaves a tale so well, that after each one, I'm left believing.
I started reading this series because it was about sisters and witchcraft. There many interesting points that keep it moving and kept me reading. To say that it needs proofreading is an understatement. Despite that fact I’ll be reading the next book in the series.
Wendy Wang's writing is so believable that I keep trying to focus on her spells so I can practice and learn them! Fiction, Ellen, hold your reality check!
This series is almost as fun as Palmeto Point, and that's saying something!
Past and present merge while Sarah Jane stalks her escaped father. Her family rally around her to help release her mother from her captivity, but it turns out she’s not where they think she is. Lots of surprises and a weirdly eerie inheritance.
Wendy want books never disappoint me! I get connected to the characters and can not wait for the next books. I think I have read everything she has written and have not been disappointed.
I am so enjoying this series! Magic, time travel, spirits guides and a terrific tale wonderfully told! I am crushed that this is the last in this series! If you start with the Midlife series for sure check out the Palmetto series next!
This series is so good! SJ is trying to find her father to put him back in jail. She and Andy did themselves in another time. Danger lurks and SJ is unsure if she’ll ever find her father. I can’t wait for the next book!
Believable characters following the storyline yet each book was a full story. Suspense and light romance is a great combo for me. The witches are believable with a reaper or two thrown in.
Boy this one was kind of scary, especially going back in time,, wow, but she got what she went after ,her father,. This had a great ending. I enjoyed it, can't wait for the next one.
What an adventure!!! This book had it all. It had mystery & magic. I love the author 's imagination. She transported us to a different time. I love the characters & hope we get to hear more from them. I can't wait to read what Wendy writes next.
Loved the plot line and how all the story is tied up with no open ends. I do wish the editing folks would correct errors in wording thought. Several errors left me having to re-read sentences and try to make sense out of them. On to the next!
Could not quit turning the pages. The characters really draw you into their inner circle. Wendy Wang is brilliant her plots and twists keep your mind thrilled with the pages.
Kept my interest. Love that their mother is a spirit guide. Ready for more books on this family I want to read more about Sarah Jane and her boyfriend.
The story continues to advance and threads from this and the previous two books have been wrapped up. I can't wait to see what happens next to Sarah Jane and her sisters.
