Scooter's hyper-creative brain is a constant fizz of brilliant ideas, but when he pairs up with his best friend Fizzbee the alien, his inventions are out of this world...
McLay's Jam factory is scheduled for a Grand Re-Opening TONIGHT. That is until Scooter's nemesis Daffy Dodgy turns up to reveal her name is still on the deeds. Scooter must either hand over all his best ideas, or find the money to buy back the factory. When Cat Pincher turns up with a treasure map, revealing there's a hoard of treasure buried under the jam factory, it seems like Scooter's in with a chance.
But he's not the only one after the treasure...
Can Scooter, Fizzbee and Cat follow the map and find the treasure? Will Daffy and Boris the guinea pig do what they do best and mess everything up? Or will Cat's nefarious uncle, Perry Pincher and his gold-sniffing ferret Colonel Pom Pom beat them all to it?
My review is on my website www.bookread2day.wordpress.com I love jam on toast every day which made me want to read this fun book all In the fictional village of Willowden Green rumours were spreading about McLay’s jam factory. Inside the jam factory they made different types of flavoured jams. Everyone wanted to know how the factory kept making magnificent flavours of jam invention. The kids at school had their own theories in how the factory made all types of flavoured jams. The main character Scooter has Cerebral Palsy, and is Chief Inventor at McLay’s Jam factory. Prepare for some secret malicious trick that has been played on Scooter. There is plenty more going on this story, to keep children glued to the action, laugh out loud scenes. I recommend this book for children as the author has an excellent imaginative cast of characters with all that goes on being very nicely played out. Children from the age of 6+ will love this story and the funny illustrations on every page. I would like to thank Walker books for sending me this book to read and review.
The Treasure Under the Jam Factory is an amusing middle-grade story about a boy who lives in a Jam factory called Scooter with his parents and his friend who happens to be an alien – Fizzbee.
This is the second book in a series and to be honest, if you want to follow the story entirely you do need to have read the first book. In this second part, the jam factory has expanded into the Dodgy Doughnuts factory next door, however on the cusp of a grand opening for all the local villages the previous owner of the doughnuts factory returns and declares that it is hers still.
Also, Scooter’s uncle and his ferret have found a map that shows that there is hidden treasure under the factory. Will the factory get its grand opening? Will the treasure be found and by who? You’ll have to read the book to find out.
The Treasure Under the Jam Factory was entertaining and I loved the illustrations throughout. The story is easy to read and will keep the reader interested from beginning to end. I was a little disappointed that the alien didn’t feature as much as I had hoped but perhaps he did more in the first book.
Overall, I can see this being a series that middle-grade readers will enjoy and become invested in, especially with all the brilliant inventions and the laugh-out-loud scenes.
“ I really like it because it’s based on a jam factory , that’s quite amazing and a boy that makes it all. I would like to know how the treasure got under the jam factory.” Lowen age 6.
This is a great and funny story. Scooter and his parents have moved their Jam Factory into the old Dodgy Doughnuts premises and are looking forward to the grand opening where everyone in the village will be invited to see inside the factory for the first time. But not everybody wants the jam factory to re-open and they will do anything to stop it.
This is a brilliant and funny story which I enjoyed reading. This is the second book in the ‘An Alien in the Jam Factory’ series, but you don’t have to have read the first book in order to enjoy this one as all of the characters are introduced well in this story and I found myself enjoying it from the start, even though I haven’t yet read the first book. Scooter’s parents own the jam factory but Scooter is the brains behind so many new jam recipes and inventions. I love how many different jam inventions there are and how they end up appearing in the story.
While Scooter plans to show everyone the factory, there is someone who wants to make sure the factory never opens. I loved the villain of Percy Pincher and his ferret Colonel Pom Pom (that name!), and how silly things became when he’s trying to find something and stop the factory opening. The story is good and I love how we seem to find out more about some characters than was probably known in the first book and it’s made me eager to read the first book in the series now, to see more about what happened to Scooter and Fizzbee before the events in this story, and how they met.
The book is filled with illustrations throughout, and there’s even a detailed map of the factory on the inside front cover. All of the illustrations are in black, grey and white and I love how all the characters look, especially the animals and Fizzbee! The illustrations are dotted around the text throughout the story and I love how the pictures add to the story, especially when showing off all the different jams and inventions.
The story ends well and it’s such a fun read that I instantly want to read the first book in the series now to see more of Fizzbee and Scooter’s adventures. I love this story, not only for how fun and different it is, especially with so many interesting gadgets and jam, and the fun characters, but I also enjoyed this as the main character is one with cerebral palsy, something which I haven’t found in other books yet, and yet, despite his disability, the story shows just how capable and smart he is and it’s great to read such a lovely and positive story about a child who may have some disability issues. The book has a recipe at the back as well as some more information about cerebral palsy too so children can understand it, and it’s certainly good to have a book that explains this as I had a classmate with this when I was young and I didn’t know much about it at the time.
Overall this is such a brilliant story and I can’t wait to read more of Fizzbee and Scooter’s adventures! The tale is so inventive, interesting and funny, and I’m sure lots of children will enjoy this, especially if they’ve read the first book in the series, although like I said it’s not necessary and this is a great standalone story. 🙂 -Thanks to Walker Books for a free copy.
I really appreciate books presented in this style for younger readers. Each page feels fully illustrated or well considered, and they’re just plain fun! Half the joy of reading this book legitimately came from the presentation, which is just so nice.
The story is great too, with Scooter and his alien friend getting excited about sharing their ideas at the jam factory. Of course, there’s always some healthy competition and Scooter’s enemy Daffy Dodger is about to cause some trouble!
It’s easy to spot that the narrative is a bit rubbish, but you’ll race through the story so fast with lots of silly scenes and jokes to keep you entertained to the finish line. Is it the best of its kind? No, not at all. But it’s all good fun regardless.
