Izzy Palmer is going to a wedding! What could possibly go wrong?
Private detective Izzy Palmer’s long-serving sidekick is about to have the country-house wedding of his dreams, and only a crazed bridesmaid, three drunken schoolfriends and a guest list of two hundred can spoil it. But when an old friend turns up dead in the bridal suite, and six different suspects confess to the killing, Izzy will have her work cut out to discover who-didn't-dunit.
With a host of eccentric relatives, celebrity guests, pop-star cats, true-crime-loving priests, and various obsessive exes to deal with, Izzy must solve the murder in time for the happy couple to walk down the aisle. But then again, the bride herself has been acting strangely, and as for her mother… well, just about anyone could be the culprit!
Writing has always been my passion. It was my favourite hour a week at primary school, and I started on my first, truly abysmal book as a teenager. So it wasn’t a difficult decision to study literature at university which led to an MA in Creative Writing. I spent a long time writing kids’ books, including funny fairy tales, dystopic adventures and serious issue-based YA, before switching to murder mysteries last year.
I grew up in a crime fiction family and spent a long time dreaming up the idea for my detective Izzy Palmer’s debut novel. A Corpse Called Bob is my first full-length book for adults in what is already becoming a long series.
I’m a Welsh-Irish-Englishman originally from South London but now living with my French/Spanish wife and slightly muddled daughter in Burgos, a beautiful city in the north of Spain. I write overlooking the Castilian countryside, trying not to be distracted by the vultures and red kites that fly past my window each day.
Another will written British 🏰 murder mystery family and friends relationships adventure thriller novel by Benedict Brown (The Lizzy Palmer Mysteries book 8 of 9). I would recommend this series and author to 👍 readers of mystery novels 👍🔰. Enjoy the adventure of reading 👓 or listening 🎶 to Alexa read books 📚. 2023 👒😀💘🏡
Book nine of the series coming in 2023. Happy reading and have fun 🌙😀
Izzy's friend, Ramesh, is getting married. The week before the wedding, Ramesh's friends show up in costume for his Stag Party. They will also be there to help Ramesh and Patricia celebrate their special day. The ceremony is being held at the Hartford House, a very elaborate establishment. Lusinda Braithwaite, who goes by Sindy, is an old acquaintance of Patricia's. Sindy invites herself to the ceremony and insists on being the Head Bridesmaid.
When everybody assembles for the Rehearsal, Sindy makes a scene by showing up in her own Wedding Dress, they one she had been wearing when she was stood up at her own wedding. Needless to say, nobody was happy with her choice of apparel. Rather than making a scene herself, Patricia chose to remain silent. Back in the Bridal Suite, Izzy discovers Patricia standing over the body of Sindy with a samurai sword in her hand. Sindy is still wearing her wedding dress, but she is also very dead. While Izzy is waiting for the Police, there are several people who claim to have killed Sindy to prevent her from ruining the wedding.
Who killed Sindy? Why was she killed? Will the murder put a halt to the wedding? Can Izzy unravel all the conflicting confessions and clues to unmask the real culprit?
Benedict Brown has another fantastic story with this latest Izzy Palmer Mystery / Adventure. Wonderful quirky characters, with a sprinkling of humor throughout. There are plenty of twists, turns, and red herrings to keep the reader engaged and guessing clear to the end. I highly recommend this series to anybody who loves a good, well-told mystery.
Izzy Palmer's best friend is getting married and she's his best woman. Ra is in secretive mode as he won't tell Izzy where the wedding will be held or even what she's wearing! And Izzy trusts him! Now that's friendship! As the story progresses we meet Ramesh's best friends from school days, his fiancé Patricia, and several friends. Lulled into a false security that the wedding would be wonderful, it is a bit of a surprise (ok, not really) when there is a murder to be solved before the wedding can rake place. And Izzy is in her element puzzling out what happened as time rushes on and wedding bells are becoming more and more unlikely. Wonderful, funny, sometimes trite characters fill the pages. Scene after scene has Izzy frustrated and other detectives (police) are smug and uncooperative. Ra spent most of the book languishing in his suite and being miserable. But fear not dear reader, because things have a way of working out for Izzy and her detecting skills. A fun book that has you wondering past Izzy's brilliant solution. Kept me guessing !
Ramesh’s and Patricia’s wedding is like a mini-reunion of old friends: Theirs from school and, for series fans who’ve been reading Izzy Mysteries from the beginning, friends from past cases. (For new readers, you don’t need the backstories to enjoy this one.)
It’s when the truly hateful Maid of (dis)Honor turns up dead and Izzy comes across the bride holding the bloody samurai sword that killed her that the wedding day goes sideways. Fortunately DI Irons is on hand to help Izzy slip past the DI in charge, the one who has forbidden her interference in the investigation.
Like all of Benedict Brown’s Izzy Palmer Mysteries, you have a full cast of quirky characters and Izzy’s even quirkier inner dialogues with her brain to keep the tone light as she weeds through convoluted clues and a wedding party of suspects. This is a fun read no matter where you are whether at the beach, on a plane, train, automobile or curled up on a rainy/sunny/cloudy afternoon.
I loved A Corpse at a Wedding, especially how it was tied it in with Ramesh and Patricia's wedding.
The setting for the wedding, and the murder, was perfect. It fit Ramesh's personality and gave Izzy more people to suspect and interact with in her own unique way. This was a crazy, but very well planned mystery. The humor was great. I love it when Izzy talks to herself. Her random thoughts about herself, food, past crushes, and friends add a wonderful dash of humor to the book. Sindy has to be one of the most obnoxious character in any book I have ever read. Yes, I did feel slightly sorry for her after I learned more about her but only slightly.
Benedict Brown has written another great mystery. I was hooked from the start. I love Izzy and all of here whacky, unique friends and family.

Ramesh and Patricia are getting married and Izzy is Best Woman, which means organization and keeping everything on a even keel. This proves – shall we say, difficult? … when a pushy, self-invited head bridesmaid is found dead in the fancy hotel Ramesh has booked for his dream wedding. Nobody liked her but nobody wanted her dead – well, someone certainly did, but who? A good mystery told well and with humour, enjoyable even (I think) if you haven't yet been introduced to practical Izzy and her imaginative and emotional best friend Ramesh. - I received an advance copy and freely leave this honest review.
Ramesh is finally marrying the woman of his dreams, no not Izzy! Izzy is his Best Woman and all the people we have grown to love through Izzy’s past adventures are in attendance. When the chief bridesmaid is murdered instead of one suspect Izzy has six people claiming to be the killer. Izzy has not only to work out why these six should be confessing but who the actual murderer is. The plot is confusing and yet ultimately very simple. Filled with the usual shenanigans and dark wit and humour this is an excellent addition to the series.
The wedding mentioned in the title is no less than the wedding of Izzy’s side-kick Ramesh. I adore Ramesh, he’s such a colourful character, with so many eccentricities :) And because Izzy adores him too, she investigates the murder of a not-very-well-loved bridesmaid with a fiery passion, so Ramesh and his wife-to-be can still have their wedding !
Izzy is to be Best Woman at Ramesh and Patricia’s wedding at an as yet unknown venue. The incredible castle is very much a palatial environment where the staff seem to be able to anticipate guests requests. The guest list includes some surprising characters. What follows is a twisting tale of weird characters and malicious and devious events including murder, which threaten to prevent the nuptials happening at all. So many guests claim to have killed the unpleasant victim, that no progress is made. Enjoy the surprises - and laughter- as Izzy in her Best Woman and Private I modes, seeks to sort out the ‘whodidn’tdunits’ to find the real villain.
Another entry into the crazy world of Izzy Palmer, who is tagged to be best woman at her best friend's wedding. Little did she know that she would be tasked with solving the murder of the bridesmail that no one wanted there. There are many twisty tales to be explored and the bigger question becomes who didn't want to murder the bridesmaid who seemed to cause trouble everywhere she went. I highly recommend all the Izzy Palmer stories and if you have read the others, this one won't disappoint.
Finally, we meet the elusive Patricia, Ramesh has a secret and chaos ensues when an annoying maid of honor is murdered. A hilarious and well written installment of the Izzy Palmer series, with her inner thoughts deciding to abandon her, and she is trying to solve the murder, so her best friend can get married. Loved it!!!
Fabulous because it's all about Ramesh! It's his wedding day, Izzy is the best woman... so of course there's a murder. We have Ramesh' past (with a little of Izzy's), a sword, a posh setting, all the usual characters - everything you need for a great novel!
It's such a delight to read yet another tale of Izzy Palmer and her eccentric entourage, solving murder while living their best life. Always a fun read which has me giggling like a school girl, with clever twists and turns and great characters.
Who killed Sindy and why – not that she didn’t deserve it??? More than enough are admitted to it though, didn’t they??? Izzy does it again, doesn't she??? I enjoyed this story and recommend the book.
Ramesh's 3 best friends from school show up, along with a woman from the same class, who has something bad planned. The story has the usual humor, too, of course.
Almost every single character is unbelievably idiotic and childish including the main character... This author has other amazing series but failed miserably with this one
I love Benedict Brown's Lord Eddington and Marius Quin books, but this series is a little bit silly and childish in places it's not up to Brown's normal standard
