Ashley
I’ve been gifted with a second chance at life, along with magical powers.
The catch? I need sex to fuel my powers and a teacher to help me wield them.

A wild chemistry sparks between Casek and me.
He’d be the perfect teacher if he wasn’t the most brutish, stubborn man I’ve ever met.

He makes it impossible to learn.
But when I mention learning from anyone else, his Fae eyes blaze with fury.

Casek
Ashley has no idea of the danger she’s in.
She thinks having powers is all fun and games, but she’s not any ordinary Fae.

The unique origin of her magic has painted a target on her back.

I’ve been ordered to protect her, and I’ll do whatever it takes because Ashley is mine.

Whether she knows it or not.

**While this book can be read by itself in theory, the majority of the world building and character introduction takes place in the first book of the series, Curse & Craving. It is HIGHLY recommended that you read the book in order!!

Author's Note: This story was originally published as part of The Fae Games Series but has been substantially rewritten. This urban fantasy romance novel is for adult audiences.

"I know you´d find me."
"Always, sweet girl."

This is a two POV book, told by the POvs of Ashley and Casek.

While I liked Ashley and her independence and stubborness, I can´t say the same for Casek´s character. I think he was supposed to be the grumpy "hates everybody but his girl" guy, however that falls a bit flat when he is literally a softie inside. The trope is a insta-love that the author tries to disguise as insta-lust. As I am a fan of a good, drawn-out slow burn, this trope didn´t really work out for me.

I liked the side characters in this book and I liked to see Rebecca´s and Lachlan´s story progress more. I would´ve loved to see more of Cat´s character and get some more background information on her, rather than her just being there. I felt like there were some loose ends, that just never got explained really. Especially Raina and Durin, I would´ve liked to see what happened to them.

For the plot, there sadly wasn´t that much plot. It felt like the smut and "romance" aspects of the book completely overshadowed the plot. To me it felt like maybe 80% smut and 20% actual plot. The 3/4 conflict of the couple also annoyed me a little bit. It would´ve been justified of her to be mad and angry at him, because he really messed up; but instead she just forgives him then and there and they end up having make-up sex right away. It also didn´t really fit Ashleys stubborn/strong/independent character for me to forgive him so easily over something so major.
What I liked was the lore and the mythology in this one. We get even a few more creatures than in the first book and the pacing felt alright as well.

Overall this was a pretty mediocre read that felt more like a novella than a second book to a series.

This book will hook you from the first page. Casek is a hard and brooding man who would love nothing more than to get away from Ashley. Casek had lived a long time and lost a loved one so many years ago. It was almost his undoing and her never wants to feel like that again. He has kept his distance for all women to protect his heart from feeling again. One night he ended up carrying Ashley to a hospital. She did Ed but ended up being turned into an Unseelie to let her live. She has waited for months to finally get her magical powers but nothing has happened until Merlin helps her powers come to the surface. She is now showing signs of being one of the most powerful of their kind and Casek has been tasked to keep her safe. Now being around her all the time he can’t keep his feelings in check anymore. There are people turning up dead by being terrified to death and he has to catch and kill this person before he takes away the one person in his life who he would die for. Will Ashley be able to survive all of the changes happening in her life and get Casek to finally show his feelings toward her? I was given an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Story - 4 stars, 1.5 chili peppers

Venom & Vice is the 2nd book in the Of Myth and Man series. In it we find Ashley finally coming into her powers after being given a second chance at life as a fae. She is assigned the grumpy and emotionally constipated Casek as a teacher. Because Ashley's magical abilities are rare and powerful, putting a dangerous target on her back by the rest of the fae, Casek must also serve as Ashley's bodyguard. Meanwhile, a dangerous Unseelie, called a Fear Gorda, is on the loose in Belfast, murdering humans who have eerie connections to Casek and Ashley. Though the two have never gotten along and butt heads at every turn, Ashley and Casek must work together to not only keep Ashley safe but to also stop the Fear Gorda.

Pros
The most engrossing part of Venom & Vice is the world that Jill Ramsower creates. It's a fascinating setting combining urban fantasty, fae, and the legend of King Arthur. The story is well written and the overall vibe is a unique blend of gritty crime and fantastical fae magic. The story is interesting, and, thankfully, did not rely on drawn out melodrama or miscommunication tropes to keep the plot moving along. In fact, most problems were solved with a conversation within a few pages. Both characters are strong, but emotionally damaged. Ashley is spunky and takes no sh!t, while Caz is a lone wolf who follows his own moral code. He comes off a little as Alphahole at the beginning, but eventually he sees the errors of his ways and repents. In the end they do make a very sweet couple.

Cons
While the story was interesting, it was also a bit predictable. It was also definitely lighter on the romance/spice than anticipated. The whole story takes place in the span of a couple weeks and we really don't get to see Ash progress with her magic at all. The book is mostly plot driven, which did not leave much room for Ashley and Casek's relationship to develop in much detail. It felt more like enemies-to-instalove instead of journey from enemies to lovers.

Conclusion
Overall, I would recommend Venom & Vice, but I would definitely recommend reading Curse & Craving first, as it is the first book of the series. Despite it being about a different couple, I felt I would have had more details and clarity about the huntsman, the Seelie Court, and the characters in general. Venom & Vice can stand on
it's own two feet though. If you like the idea of a bit of crime mixed in with your magical, Irish Fae romances, definitely check it out!

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK! I was so excited to get an ARC for this book because I really enjoyed the first book of this series and loved Ashley’s character. I did not, however, expect to fall in love with this book so much!!

The first chapter already had me hooked 😮‍💨🥵 Yes I finished this book in less than 24 hours because I could not put it down and I have no regrets.

First of all, I AM IN LOVE WITH CASEK. I would let that man do anything to me😩 Within the first chapter, I was already so down bad for him. I love his cold and brooding personality and I slowly started falling for him more as he got so much sweeter 🥺 He is everything anyone can want in a man.

I loved Ashley’s character development. I think Ashley’s character is what made me enjoy this book much more than book one. She was very relatable and such a bad bitch. Her relationship with her dad and relationship with herself and watching them both develop was so nice to see.

The plot was high stake enough to keep me interested but did not drag on forever which I loved! In comparison to book one, the plot was much more fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. The balance of the plot and romance was just *chef’s kiss*.

I do, however, have some critiques. I WAS SO FRUSTRATED WITH THE AMOUNT OF FADE TO BLACKS NEAR THE END! “Casek did not disappoint” TELL ME HOW! HOW DID HE NOT DISAPPOINT? DETAILS PLEASE YOU CANT LEAVE ME HANGING LIKE THAT!!😩 Also, I felt like there was such a great opportunity to give Casek a chance to grovel over Ashley and their issue was resolved way too easily that the chance was missed. It would have been amazing to see that switch in Casek to go from broody and cold to a grovelling man who has fallen for Ashley.

Overall, I was OBSESSED with this book. I cannot wait to read book 3!

I found this book to be a fun read! I enjoyed the drama and mystery throughout the book along with the character relationships. Ashley and Casek have a complicated relationship that integrates with the use of magic. If you like magic with some spice, then this book is for you. Looking forward to see what comes next!

This is the second book in "The Of Myth & Man Series". We are back in Dublin with the Huntsman and the fae coming to earth. Bold, brash, headstrong Ashley and quiet, predatory, controlled, stoic Casek are like fire and ice. They don't understand each other and have tried to ignore one and another but the attraction is just to consuming. It's fun watching them trying to figure out the attraction and what they are going to do about it. Like the first book the fae are playing havoc with the lives of the Huntsman and Ashley and Casek will have to pull together to conquer their enemies. I was happy that the characters from the first book continue in this book. I'm throughly enjoying this series and looking forward to the next book.

Venom and Vice was a fast paced adventure full of ALL the mystery, ALL the suspense & ALL the steamy goodness! Casek & Ashley had an undeniable connection-- one that will keep you on the edge of your seat, fanning yourself and shouting at your kindle (𝑚𝑜𝑟𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑛 𝑜𝑛𝑐𝑒 😉)-- these two were stubborn ya'll! Although in the background this is a continuation of the ongoing storyline from book one, A & C's story stands on it's own - meaning theirs is more a race to save lives and find a dangerous unseelie feeding on peoples fear with LOADS of twists along the way. HOWEVER! If you pay attention to the sneaky breadcrumbs that Jill Ramsower leaves throughout this read; you'll be left with quite a few questions and a book hangover to match! Because that ending!! GAH! I honestly can't get enough of this series and I CANNOT wait for book three!

This is the second book in Jill Ramsower's Of Myth and Man Fantasy series. (Curse and Cravings was the first). I loved Venom and Vice every bit as much (maybe more) than Curse and Cravings.

Why more? Because unlike Lachlan in Curse and Cravings, who I took a bit to warm up to (he was a bit of a mystery initially and you weren't sure if he was a good guy or not, so you didn't WANT to let go and like him), I already knew Casek from the first book; and even though he was broody, quiet and there's a dark mystery in his past, I knew that he was with the good guys from the beginning of this book.

Ashley, is caring and sweet. She has her moments with emotional issues stemming from her past, but she is strong, bold, fearless, brave and loyal. I love a dauntless heroine who can still be sweet and vulnerable. She and Casek are perfect together, and together they grow.

Like the first book in this series, this one has all the fae lore, magic, predators, heroes, excitement and mystery we loved in Karen Moning's Fever seres. Unlike the Fever series each book in this one deals with a different threat and a different couple so each is a stand alone with no cliffhanger. But we get to revisit characters/friends that we met in the previous books and see their growth so I do recommend you read the books in order to enjoy the full effect.

I said it in my review of the first book, and I'll say it again because it bears repeating...This series is a MUST read for fans of Karen Moning's Fever series. I've read many fantasy romances (from shifters to fae and vampires to demons) and while I've enjoyed most of them, Moning's original (first 5 books) Fever series stands out. The Fever series differed from others in how the fae were presented, how humans fit in and interacted; it delved deeper into fae lore and introduced us to new fae characters. The trials and tribulations they faced differed from the typical faery romances and the story itself had a totally different feel. Ramsower has captured everything that made the Fever Series great while still creating her own distinctive characters, a unique faery world (I love the way she's tied in the Arthurian legends), and telling her own unique stories..

Utimately, Jill Ramsower is a great story teller. Whether she's writing Mafia or Fantasy Romance, her stories are always engaging and unique. Her characters have depth and her stories are filled will action and emotions. I will read anything she writes and I'm so looking forward to the next in this series.

I received this book as an ARC, but have already pre-ordered it. I am voluntarily submitting my review this book.

It’s 4.5⭐️ for me.

I never knew that being a Fae can be an option too just as vampires and werewolves have. This specific trait attracted me to the story and what I got after reading it, is the satisfaction of choosing it to read. I missed reading book one and which had more world-building by the introduction of the world here is perfect to grasp all the details that must have been woven in book one. This second book is more about the characters and threats looming around the corner.

Writing is so easy and flawless to understand with a specific amount of banter between the leads. The characters of the book have so much potential in them and in time and time they have proved theirs among each other. I appreciate the bonding of friends and Ashley is such a strong-willed that irrespective of a shitty past, she knows what she wants and to work for me. Casek is one of the oldest Fae and has his own issues which hinder his blooming relationship with Ashley. Twists and turns in the story are worth a read, and the steam is on another level.
It’s hot to handle.

I was given an ARC copy of this book from NetGalley in return for my honest review.

I absolutely loved this book! I was hooked from the first line and I found it difficult to put it down when I actually had things I needed to get done. The relationship between the two main characters is fiery and fabulous and I enjoyed how it was written. Jill Ramsower writes beautifully and even though I haven't read the first book I got enough information peppered throughout for that not to be an issue. I WILL be going back and reading book 1 and I can't wait for the rest of the series!

Ashley was thrown into the world of magic and supernatural beings when her best friend Becca took a job in Belfast. Born a human, upon her death, the Fae magician known as Merlin gave her a second chance at life as a Fae. Ash must learn how to use and control her new magical abilities. She is excited to see what her new life has in store for her. That is where Casek enters in to the situation.

Casek is a broody Fae and member of the Hunt. For many, many, many years it has been one of his responsibilities to monitor Fae activity on Earth and ensure the safety of the human population. His boss, Lochlan, has assigned Cas the task of mentoring Ashley as well as protecting her. Can the two of them work together without killing each other or will the chemistry that has been brewing between the couple lead to something more.

I was provided an Advance Reader Copy from Netgalley and the publisher for an honest review.

I completely enjoyed the first installment of this series but, if it's possible, I think I loved Ashley and Casek's story even more. I entered Venom and Vice with a complete understanding of the backstory and got to focus on the relationship that was developing between Casek and Ashley. At times Casek's archaic ways were a bit overwhelming but as the story developed so did he as a person. Ashley's headstrong personality is a perfect match for Cas; throughout the story she was able to go toe to toe with him both mentally and physically. And the chemistry between the couple was off the charts steamy. This series is unique in its mythology. I love the way Ramsower has taken Arthurian legend and weaved in to it a supernatural story with beings that are already familiar. I look forward to the next installment.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC. This is the sequel to Curse & Craving and follows Ashley as she learns more about her powers and adapts to being Fae. It’s a dual POV between her and Casek, the broody Huntsman who gets assigned to protect her when women start getting murdered.

First off, I love a dual POV and seeing both sides of a relationship. Casek is definitely on the morally grey side and does some questionable things, but his heart is in the right place. There were some heartbreaking moments and I love how strong Ashley remained in spite of it all. This book was much shorter than the first one and I liked how fast paced it was, I was able to finish it in a day. I was not shocked by the twist but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Fantasy Romance MF 4/5 - Spicy 3/5

I had a hard time putting this book down. The chemistry between the main characters felt like oil and water but in a good way. The banter was cute between a moody male lead and fiery female lead.

The world was relatable and seemed like present day but with a fantasy touch of other worlds. I did not read the first book and felt like I was missing a key pieces sometimes. Even without the previous story, I really enjoyed this story.

With character growth, magic and things that go bump in the night along with a little bit of mystery. Whets not to like.

I was not over or underwhelmed on details. The story moved at a good pace and kept me engaged. Some references to death/murder, kidnapping, torture, and alcoholics.

First time reader of this author but, I will be keeping an eye out to read the next one.

My review will be posted to Instagram, good reads and amazon by release day.

––Thank you to NetGalley and Jill Ramoswer LLC for providing me with an ebook ARC of this release.––

Venom and Vice tells the story of Ashley, a human turned Fae after a near-death incident. Since that incident nearly six months ago, Ashley has been adapting to her new lifestyle and trying to harness her magical powers. When she reconnects with Merlin, the Fae who brought her and her best friend, Becca, back to life, Merlin teaches Ashley how to feel and unleash her power. However, days later, her power once again goes dark, unable to be accessed.

Unbeknownst to Ashley, Cazek, the right-hand-man of Erlking Lochlan, has used blood magic to bind Ashley's power and prevent her from using it. He has done this to protect her but quickly realizes that he went about things in the wrong way. As all of this is happening, a mysterious creature lurks through Belfast preying on young women. Cazek, Lochlan, and the rest of the huntsman must band together and fight the local enemy. However, the creature continues to evade them, and they quickly realize that the creature's attacks are personal.

Going into this book, I was fairly blind and mostly led by the short synopsis provided by the publisher and the attractive book cover. As a result, I was expecting primarily a romance. The book immediately starts with an electric scene between Ashley and Cazek, but their following counters don't match the chemistry portrayed in their first interaction.

Although this book is largely a romance with fantasy elements, the romance isn't overly spicy or descriptive. I felt that the romance between Ashley and Cazek was largely circumstantial; I didn't feel the connection between the two characters. I could definitely see them becoming friends with benefits, but they quickly fell in love for reasons I didn't understand. At the beginning of the book, Cazek is reserved, brooding, and quiet, but opens up almost immediately to Ashley without any hesitation. I found similar instances throughout the book and finally realized because it lacked subtext.

The plot is elementary at best, but the characters spell everything out for the reader, leaving nothing to be questioned. The characters clearly portray their emotions and the creature descriptively explains its motives. All of this left me feeling unsatisfied with this book.

The plot moved quickly which helped me keep moving through this book, but I'm not sure if I'll be picking up the next book in the series.

However, if you're interested in a romantic urban fantasy, be sure to check out "Venom and Vice" when it comes out May 2, 2022.

The second book in the Of Myth and Man series, Venom and Vice features brooding Casek and bubbly Ashley, along with other characters from the first book, Curse and Craving. Casek is tasked with training Ashley to learn about and control her newfound magic. However, a fear gorda is on the loose, leaving a trail of bodies in its wake.

I found Venom and Vice to be a gripping, fast paced read (I read it in a day!). It was enlightening to learn about Casek’s backstory and how he ended up in the Wild Hunt. This story features elements that I love such as grumpy/sunshine, morally grey characters, and even forced proximity.

In order to get a sense of the world in this series, I highly recommend starting with Curse and Craving before moving onto Venom and Vice. Of the two, Venom and Vice is my favorite so far (Casek is a lovable grump!) and I eagerly anticipate book 3!

Special thanks to NetGalley & Victory Editing for a free ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I really wanted to enjoy this book since fae and romance are some of my favorite tropes. That said, I was very disappointed. The characters were so blunt and in your face, with minimal layers to their personalities. I felt we got a bit of character growth with Casek but not enough to make me cheer for this couple. I won't be continuing with the series.

I must admit that almost until the end I did not think it was a memorable novel from the point of view of the plot, very much along the lines of the previous one, then, suddenly, the plot twist that you do not expect and everything definitely improves.

Devo ammettere che quasi fino alla fine non mi era sembrato un romanzo ricordabile dal punto della vista della trama, molto sulla falsariga del precedente, poi, improvvisamente, il plot twist che non ti aspetti e tutto migliora decisamente.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

Rating: 4/5

“Why was he the first person I noticed in a room and the only one I couldn’t seem to forget when my eyes closed at night? Why did I always end up gravitating towards him, trying to start conversations and finding ways to coax out the tiniest reactions from him?”

The Plot:

Venom & Vice is the second installment in the Of Myth & Man Series. In the previous novel, we were introduced to this magical world of Fae that is kept hidden and only accessible through Ireland, when the main character moved to the new country a job opportunity. Venom & Vice picks up from Ashley, the previous main character Becca’s best friend’s POV, at the end of the first novel. Ashley has recently been brought back from death’s doorstep from Merlin (yes, THE Merlin) and has been turned into a Fae. Throughout the novel, we follow Ashley as she discovers her new strengths and powers with help from the broody, reserved love interest, Casek. While searching for answers, Ashley finds an unexpected and whirlwind of a romance.

What I love about this series, is how it takes its own spin on the popular idea of Fae fantasy stories. The Fae follow different rules and their history is much more interesting, as we discover it twines with much of human history from Shakespeare to King Arthur. Though this novel is considered a Romance novel, the worldbuilding and cohesive connections the author makes between ‘real’ and ‘fantasy’ worlds is highly impressive and something that is usually lacking in contemporary romance novels. On top of the plot, the main characters were refreshingly emotionally mature and there was no infidelity, abuse, or extreme toxicity that usually comes with the Romance category.

“I could protect myself. I might rely on others to help me, but not out of helplessness. If I leaned on my friends, it was because I chose to do so on my terms.”

Characters and Relationships:

Ashley & Casek

“Promise me, Caz. I’ve already lost my father. If I lose you, too, I won’t… I won’t survive it.”
“Don’t you see? I’m in the same position. I lost one woman I loved. It would break me to lose another.”

These two were absolutely amazing together. They weren’t perfect by any means at all, he was overbearing, and she was determined to push him away, but after they surprisingly talked it out and had a solid conversation about it they decided to work on themselves to be a better partner. I was so shocked that I almost fell off my bed. In contemporary romance you never see emotional maturity, and I fell in love with the both of them because of it.

“His kiss was a bandage to my gaping wound. He swathed me in the comfort of his touch, each reverent glide of his tongue a silent vow. He’d heard me, and he understood. And above all, he wanted to do whatever he could to end my suffering.”

The smut scenes were realistic and enthralling. I love finding a novel, like this one, that has the best of both worlds, a world I want to escape to and a relationship with sex I will be jealous of.

Lochlan & Casek

“I think I’m going to enjoy watching you complete this assignment more than I anticipated.”
“You’re a dick, you know that?”
He threw back his head on a peel of laughter.

Their friendship was hilarious. Lochlan was very much playing matchmaker, pitting Casek and Ashley together, but boy was he right. Lochlan knew what was best for his friend and then helped him grow into who he needed to be for Ashley, which was very wholesome content I highly enjoyed.

Ashley & Her Dad

“This may sound crazy, but I missed my chance at father-daughter dances. I’d love if you’d indulge me in a song before we go.”
“Yeah, we can do that.”
“This has been a dream, Ashley. Thank you.”

Seeing Ashley develop a relationship with her father was a bit unexpected, but wholly appreciated. Her growing to realize that the addict and the man he is now are two different people was beautiful. That turning into him being killed right after they rekindle their relationship was painful. A book that makes me cry, instantly becomes a favorite, and these two pulled lots of tears from me.

Honorable Mentions:

- Ashley and Becca’s relationship was fine, but most of it was Becca lying about things happening to Ashley, which was a little disappointed. Though, girls’ night with Cat was so cozy and redeeming
- Knight and Ashley made me miss my own dog. Him protecting her and coming to save her with Casek was all I never knew I needed.

The Ending:

“Dance with me.”
“I didn’t think you danced.”
“Only in exceptional circumstances.”

The ending set up the plot line for the next novel, and hints that the next couple could involve Cat and Fenodree, which I for one am very excited to see. Ashley and Casek got their Happily Ever After and from the looks of it, they will never get enough of one another. The ending was predictable, but enjoyable. Venom & Vice gets a 4/5 from me because of how enjoyable it was to read and how impressed I was by the worldbuilding and overall cohesiveness. It was a joy and I look forward to reading the third installment later this year.

until next time,

First, I didn’t realize that this wasn’t meant to be a standalone when I started it. While it could be read alone, there is a lot of world building and the characters are introduced in the first book, Curse & Craving. I got a copy of the first book and read it first, as I felt it would be a disservice to the review of book two if I didn’t like it due to the fact I was missing crucial information from book one. I’m very glad I did this and I really enjoyed Curse & Craving.

Now onto Venom & Vice. Venom & Vice is book 2 in the Of Myth and Man series by Jill Ramsower and is an urban fantasy novel set in modern Belfast, Ireland. In this book, Ashley and Casek must work together to train her new rare abilities while also facing inner demons that resurface and the Unseelie monsters that threaten their existence.

Ashley is first introduced as Becca’s best friend in the first book and after an unfortunate incident, she is thrown into a new world, forced to figure out her new powers on her own. Casek is a broody member of the Hunt appointed to be her trainer, much to his dismay. The two reluctantly find themselves growing closer as they deal with outside forces attacking people around Belfast, creating some mysterious and dangerous circumstances for them both as the crime scenes start to look like something out of Casek’s past.

This story is told in Dual POV and drew me in the second I started it. The world that has been created is immersive and I felt like I had been drawn into it headfirst. Between the Fae magic, the mystery surrounding the crimes that are taking place, and the unexpected connections to King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table legends, it was hard to put this one down. The author is incredibly descriptive and ties up majority of the story with a nice bow at the end, just leaving enough mystery to continue on with the next book.

The cover of the book is what originally drew me in. While I don’t judge books by their covers, I was instantly intrigued by this one. The book hooked me quickly and I’ll definitely be finishing the series when the next two come out. I can’t wait to see what else might be in store.

𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒌 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝑵𝒆𝒕𝑮𝒂𝒍𝒍𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒂𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒆-𝒂𝒓𝒄. 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞: 𝐌𝐚𝐲 𝟐, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟐

Continuation of the unique take on King Arthur's story with the combination of various mythical creatures, which if you didn't know- I did like the most in this ongoing new adult (if I'm not mistaken) fantasy/ paranormal romance series- and the number one reason I read this.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭:

To be honest, I'm not sure how I feel about this book, especially this series.

I must admit that I am intrigued by the story's premise, particularly its take on the King Arthur legend. I was captivated by how the events would be intertwined, the characters, and so on, especially how the story ended on Curses and Cravings and if it would satisfy me more than the 1st book.

The first half was good I think it was better than the first book because of how engaging and compelling the writing was.

My main issue with this book, or should I say series, so far is the lack of character presence, growth, and consistency when it comes to romance chemistry. Aside from that, they didn't have any distinguishing characteristics, like the first pairing, aside from the powers they suddenly possessed or knew, and I didn't like those parts at all, even the steamy parts or chapters felt dull.

As intriguing as the premise of King Arthur is, the world-building is fragile and superficial. It would have been preferable if it had been shown instead.

There were also times when some scenes didn't feel like they belonged in a fantasy/paranormal world?

Although the rest of the characters felt dry to me as well, I'm still hoping that this improves? The premise is intriguing, and it disappointed me that it didn't live up to my expectations, let alone find any interesting parts aside from the premise.

Overall, this was a rather underwhelming installment. I'm still hoping for developments in the next book and that those tropes, themes, and the premise will be fully exploited and the villain/character qualities will be more striking.

Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC of this in exchange for my honest opinion.
*NOTE: This is book 2 in a series. I did not realize and nowhere in the summary page here does it say that it's a sequel. If I had known that, I wouldn't have requested this book.*

This is an urban faery romance book set in Belfast and is centered around Ashley, a human who was recently turned fae, and Casek, an old fae dude. I'm going to be honest, I really did not enjoy this book. All of the characters feel flimsy and unreal. There's nothing grounding this story and its characters in any kind of reality. This book is told through the POV of Ashley and Casek and my god, there is no chemistry between them on top of them having no unique qualities as people. Even for this being an urban fantasy, nothing felt believable OR magical. I think Ramsower does a good job creating her version of the fae but that said, I just could not find myself caring about anything that was happening. Ashley was cloying and one dimensional and Casek was creepy and controlling and all of the side characters were just as boring and forgettable. I honestly cannot believe how often in the narrative we're told that Ashley is "confident" and "brave" when she comes across as a one-sided clichè complete with a sad backstory involving daddy issues.

I also could not believe the "romance" between Ashley and Casek. There wasn't any sort of "enemies to lovers" trope or anything like that. The two just have sex within the first 20 pages and suddenly they're in love with one another? It was giving me the vibes of "first NC-17 fanfic" and honestly, the spice was nowhere near spicy. Just a lot of questionable situations. The more that I think about it, the more that this book's writing and characters reminded me of something Joss Whedon probably would have written/liked as a teenager.

I think if you haven't read much urban fantasy and/or are 18-23 (I should note that I'm 29 and grew up reading urban fantasy), this book may hold some enjoyment but for me, I was bored, annoyed, and couldn't care less about any of the murders and "tension".

~I received this book free from Netgalley for an honest review~

After reading the first book, I was pretty keen to read the second in this series. I quite liked the Ashley in the first book but there wasn't much of her so it was nice to get a book focused on her!

I found that the storyline in this book was much more formulaic than the first book. I found that I was able to predict quite a lot of the major plot points.

I found that I actually enjoyed the relationship in this book a lot more though. There was more time spent actually getting them to bond.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. It definitely wasn't as intersting as the first one but because I enjoyed the relationship more, I rated it the same. I love Cat's character so I'd love to read the next one!

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Venom and Vice is the second book in the Of Myth & Man series. In this, you will meet Ashlye and Casek. Technically, if you read the first book, you would know who they are. If you didn't, well, I'm sure you would be okay to jump into this book since this is about their romance.

Just like the first book, there's drama and murder going around Ireland. Our new enemy is the Fear Gorda, which doesn't sound very pleasant. We do get little snippets of fear and visions when it comes to Ashley's new fae powers. Yet, we don't really know if we can trust this information since she is still learning how to control them.

At first, I had a feeling who was behind the fear and killings. Then, when it was revealed, I was very happy that I was on the right track. As for the romance, uh, I feel like she forgave him too quickly for the things he did. I would have liked more groveling, for sure.

In the end, I'm kind of intrigued to see what's going to happen to Cat. Especially after Ashley's vision in the epilogue, can we trust this?? Not sure, but hoping to find out whenever I get my hands on the next book in this series.
