The Song Unsung is Book 4 and the final in The Guardian League Series. It's always hard for me when a series I love comes to an end. This is no different and I'm having a hard time saying goodbye. #teamgrundle forever!😂

It's definitely easy for me to say I really enjoy this author's humor and writing style. It's just so me and I love the pop culture references...man showing my age for sure.

The story itself took a little for me to get into. There is a lot going on here and whew I mean a lot. It's the end of all things if our A-Team can't get these Infected dealt with. There are some casualties, as is expected, but also hope, love and unexpected delight (you'll have to read to see as I give nothing away 😂

This is definitely a series I will reread in the future and one I'll recommend for lovers of Sci-Fi, Fantasy and Magical Realism. Is has been my pleasure to receive a review copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.

The last book of The Guardian League where the crew has to either find a way to end the infected…..or fall to them.

Each member is on their own mission during the final installment. Scan is trapped in the bubble trying to save Harry from turning. Red and Galad travel to Freeworld to learn what they can from the origin site. Grundle must protect Smith and his unborn babies. Rocks is protecting NYC and his pregnant wife while also searching for an illusionist murderer saboteur. Can the GL complete their own missions and figure out how to defeat the infected in time?

First off, how dare the author hurt me like this? He knows what he did. You must read the book to discover what he did. Secondly….OMG. This book. So goooood. So many things are going on in this story but it’s not hard to follow. I loved the back story and how it all meshed together. I loved that Serrilliah continued on. I’m curious what will happen with the next series to follow.

It's always hard to talk about the fourth book in a series without giving away spoilers, so I will do my best not to.

I think my favorite thing about book 4 is that Morris actually managed to condense the points of view and make almost everyone's voice distinctive. I've been griping through all three books that I can't keep the characters apart but between Cora, Red, and Scan as the main viewpoints, I had no trouble distinguishing their narrative voices.

The goblins are everything with their banter and popcorn too🤣, but I also have to give honorable mention to Red bantering with the easily amused giant bugs 🤣

That said, I think Cora was my favorite point of view to read.  We finally found out where and how everything started, which also tied directly into Red's chapters.  This created a sense of continuity that I wasn't feeling in prior books and I was able to sit down and read this whole thing in about three sittings!

The Song Unsung is not as action packed as the prior three and gets dense into the magic theory, but still tied the first book in terms of enjoyment and readability for me now with the storylines condensed.

PLUS GRUNDLE BABIES, WE HAVE GRUNDLE BABIES!

I am not exactly sure what happened at the tail end of the book but it seems that Morris has more stories to tell, and I'll be here for them!

Overall I think this book had a LOT of strings to tie up and ground to cover, it's not perfect but he pulled it off in terms of both giving the history we needed and wrapping up a TON of storylines.  A satisfying ending for sure.

I definitely recommend the series for anyone who enjoys fast paced mashup type novels.  These contain everything from scifi to fantasy to thriller and mild horror elements, plus all the subgenres, and part of the fun is never knowing what will come next. Thanks again to Steven Morris and By the Book for having me along for the story!

Scan, using his gift to see magical threads, fights to save the once fame-hungry dwarf, Harry. Grundle, the fearsome troll Warlord, safeguards Smith and a cadre of elf and dwarf Healers. And Elliah tries desperately to lead the elves from the prison where her ex trapped them.

Morris brings us to book 4 of The Guardian League.

What happens to elves and humans is up to Red, Gallad, and their friends. If not, who knows what the infected may do. But everything lies within the Goblins' song; the elves have not forgotten. Moreover, the Goblins' song holds the gift of life and when death will arrive. So all must be prepared when the Goblins' song is figured out; the question is will they be ready?

Hold on while and enjoy this magical ride......

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

This was such a bittersweet read for me. There’s a lot to unpack here.

The Song Unsung is the fourth and final installment of The Guardian League series and really my first fantasy (with a touch of sci-fi) series that I fell in love with. I’ve been ride or die with Red and the gang as they try to save Earth (and then the entire universe really) from the infected.

This is their final battle. Winner take all.
Along the way we meet new characters that mix really well with the original main characters.

Goblins and trolls and Elves (and more species including giant bugs - which to me I pictured as roach like 😱) oh my! Can’t leave out the magic, lots of magic too. ✨

We get way more backstory here with a dual timeline that explains so much. It’s a lot to cover but done so well and also with so much humor (which Morris also does so well).

Does the gang overcome The Infected?
You’ll have to read to find out. 🤐 I highly recommend checking this entire funky fun series out.

Oh and Steve, the penny finally dropped when I realized you had planned this ending all along. Hmmm…I can’t really say much without spoiling the ending but I will say…what???? I was shocked (and yes a bit saddened). If you know, you know.

Also #grundlebabies made me beyond happy. Thanks for that. ♥️

This series is a must read and is written with tons of action and heart. Im so happy I read these and got out of my comfort zone. It’s been a wild ride. I’m looking forward to the next series for sure - where rumor has it we go way back to the very beginning. Bring it on!

I don't normally read series straight through, I usually space the books months or sometimes years apart. But I didn't do that with the Guardian League series because I had to know what happened next! Steven Morris' books keep getting better with each book in the series so I should be rating The Song Unsung around 10 stars.

Each book has its own plot with the same main characters, but there is a larger storyline that continues throughout the series. Each book also introduces new characters that are important to that book's focus and sometimes they're a part of the larger story. Steven does a great job of sprinkling hints throughout the book which is quite annoying at times because it's such a tease, but you get that wonderful "aha" moment when everything comes together.

I don't want to say a lot about The Song Unsung because I am trying to avoid spoilers of the previous books. What I will say is Red and the gang's strength and abilities will be tested once again as they try to uncover the beginning of the end.

I cannot recommend the Guardian League series enough! Book one (The Guardian of the Palace) is a unique mashup of sci-fi, fantasy, and thriller. The thriller part was not as prominent in the rest of the books, but they are still a great blend of sci-fi and fantasy that I think a lot of readers would enjoy.

Thank you to Steven J. Morris for allowing me early access to The Song Unsung in exchange for my honest review.

The Song Unsung by Steven J. Morris is the fourth and final book in The Guardian League series. The Guardian League series is a fantasy/sci-fi series revolving around Red and his crew as they try to save the earth from “The Infected”.

Each book in this series features the same main characters and the reader is introduced to newer characters as the series progresses. While each book also is focused on its own plot as the series progresses each book adds to and continues the larger plot.

The vivid world-building, complex characters, fantastic writing, action and adventure made this an amazing book and series. The ending was satisfying and I’m sad this series is over. I’d love to read other books set in this world.

Review: As the saying goes all good things must come to an end! I had such a blast reading this and it had an ending I did not predict! I don’t know if I will ever recover! There is so much going on and it all makes sense! The banter is this book had me laughing and there was a few people who gave me strange looks! Cora’s chapters were fascinating to read about but it also broke for her when you discover some of the things that happen in her life! I was so happy we got to see Grundle’s babies!!! This series in its entirety is worth picking up and I regret nothing! Im so happy I got to read all of these books within the past two years it’s like saying good bye to a precious friend!

Have you ever read through the end of a book, at the end of a series, and thought, "wait... what?!" That's this book. The closer I got to the end, the more I was convinced that this wasn't the last book in the series. There was too much escalation, too many loose threads, too much of the story not yet told. Then the epilogue comes along and opens up a whole new series. The author has already promised more to come, after a very far in the past prequel, so I guess I'll just have to keep reading!

Take notes.

Keeping all the story lines straight is a struggle, but oh so worth it! Just my opinion, but I think this was a great story.

Two Timelines, One Great Story

Just as witty, nerdy, and cute as the earlier books, The Song Unsung brings everything together in a satisfying manner. This universe is so big and detailed that it will delight all SFF fans! It also sets up the prequel series with some questions that can only be answered in the past! Highly recommend this space fantasy series.

Okay, like I've said in other reviews for the rest of the series, I have NO IDEA how Steven keeps things straight when writing. He's got to have timelines and string boards, and all sorts of character history binders or something. The way he can tell the story and the history simultaneously, while giving just enough information at one time to not give away the end, but keep the story going is incredible. This conclusion to the Guardian League series was great, tied everything up with a neat little bow, but that bow also had strings attached that keep you wanting more. I can't wait for the prequels and then the continuation!!! That Epilogue and sneak peeks were killer.

⭐️4.5star review for Song Unsung by @steven.j.morris.writer

“We live in a story- others will someday tell the tale. This is the writing of our story.” - Sherilliah pg 51

This kind of sums up the book for me and is the best quote from the book.

Spoilers- so if you don’t want any stop here!!

This book is a story with in a story told by I believe 10 POV’s to build up to the climax of all climaxes. I am a happily ever after girl and … yeah ok it was semi happy but sad too and that is why it 4.5 …. 1/2 a star for killing my character . But I digress…. I love the addition of the Cora story. The romance between Red and Galad was adorable. I loved every minute of the red and green singing scene I mean really thank you for that !!!! So zig-a-zig-ah ….The series ending was satisfying and as it was sad but some how poetic. Beautiful writing as always and you never let me down with the action and adventure

Series review:
This book series is so smart and distinctive there is nothing that I can compare this series to. It has the world building of Tolkien, the wit of Roald Dahl and the complexity of Characters of Charles Dickens. This series is full of action and adventure, and all the feels of a wild fantasy ride. I am looking forward to the prequels of this series and anything else by this author.

Great series.

Really liked the parallel stories in the last book that helped tie up all of the story threads. Look forward to the next work.

Song Unsung is Stephen J. Morris's spectacular finale to the Guardian League series. As in his first three books, Morris weaves a rich tapestry of characters, worlds, action, intrigue, and romance. In this fourth book he tells the back-story of how the "Infected" came to be, and the story of what becomes of the universe that they blight. The parallels Morris draws between magic and electricity and the technologies based on each are fascinating. And the wit and joshing between characters is superbly entertaining. This is a great book (and a great series) to escape the real world for a bit. And as if we didn't already want more of his books, Morris leaves us with a jaw-dropping cliff-hanger...!

Steven J. Morris delivers another thrilling chapter in The Guardian League series with The Song Unsung. From the very first page, I was pulled into a world where danger, loyalty, and courage collide. The writing is sharp, the pacing intense, and the stakes feel higher than ever. Red’s alliance with the Angel of Death adds a dark yet fascinating layer to the story, while Scan’s struggle to control his Gift gives the book its emotional heart.
The world-building is phenomenal, every city, battle, and spell feels vividly alive. This isn’t just a fantasy novel; it’s an immersive experience that grabs hold and doesn’t let go. Highly recommended for fans of Brandon Sanderson or R.A. Salvatore.

Steven J. Morris does it again in the Guardian League series, it had everything that I enjoyed from the previous three books. The characters were everything that I enjoyed from this world and glad it was so well done and glad the series has continued to read about this world.

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A lot of jumping around in time in the chapters

Overall, I liked this series. It had a unique
Perspective about the interactions of characters from worlds bathed in magic and other worlds of contemporary technology. However, this book repeatedly switched from current storyline time to many years In the storys past. Really distracting.

Finished.

Very cool, the closing was perfect, although a bit long to get there. Books 3&4 could have been a bit shorter with a smaller cast of characters. The use of so many pronouns caused confusion when following timelines and characters Just my humble opinion.
