A useful introduction to the main branches or linguistics: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and second language acquisition. each chapter has a helpful summary of key terms and additional exercises to test your knowledge of the content. The chapters cover a variety of issues providing some depth such as discussing x-bar theory for syntax, but doesn't go into too much detail due to the broad scope of the book.
