Tired of looking for Mr. Right when all she wanted was casual fun, Dawn Porter placed an ad online to see what handsome, wealthy, and charming men would respond to her request for surprising nights out and possibly more. Nine months later and the results make for jaw-dropping reading. A cast of characters you couldn't invent do their best to impress Ms. Porter with their wit, wisdom, and physical attributes. With nicknames like the "very clever wolf" and the "big bumbino," these would-be suitors' antics read like a modern comedy of sexual manners. Not content with looking for lust with cute guys, Ms. Porter explores her bi-curious side and builds up to a liaison with a couple. With a taste for fancy restaurants, fine wines, and men who make her laugh, Dawn's dates are an up-to-the minute look at modern dating from a clued-in young woman with her eyes on the prize. The question is, will she actually fall for any of her dates?
Confessions of a internet dater is quite a strange book. On one hand you really want to read everything, but on the other hand, it is just plain superficial. In this book you read the adventures of Dawn Porter as she goes in the world of internet dating. This young, happy 26 year old has several advertisements to attract different types of people. Until now: Everything fine. However, Dawn is quite superficial. There are nice men (related to their look, mostly) and there is a good date yes or no. During all this dates she is eating and drinking for 2, and she even (I quote) is disappointed when a date orders her one glass of wine instead of a bottle. Really Dawn really?!?!?!?!?! Most people order their wine, glass by glass and not bottle after bottle.. In addition her favorite drink is Jack Daniels and Cola Light.. So actually she has to be drunk to have fun. She is boasting around as well when mailing the guys she will meet later for dates that she is drunk. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any problems with people who drink, or even drink a lot. But in this book it is all about drinking and sex. It is actually a pity, as there would be so much more in this book.. So bravo for Dawn that she is capable of letting me read everything because I want to know how the dates end she has split up in parts, but it is really superficial and the boasting about alcohol consumption is just plain wrong… (Younger people read this as well, should they think it is cool to get passed out on a Wednesday evening? Or get drunk on dates so much you hardly get home? I don’t think so…)
I found this book to be irritating & pointless. I was excited at first as I have no personal experience with internet dating & like Dawn, I love the idea behind it! Dawn appeared to spend most of the book excessively complaining about her dates (sometimes, unfairly in my opinion) or excessively sucking up their behinds. The emails were often boring & in some cases I think they could have been left out conpletely, especially the ones between the couple as they were long, boring & probably only interesting to Dawn & the couple. I found all of Dawn's spelling mistakes in her own emails annoying, particularly her constant mispelling of 'losing' & 'too' (often mispelt as 'loosing' & 'to') considering she is a writer, but I'm guessing that was left there to provide "charm". Overall, I found this book to be absolute garbage & I never want to read anything of Dawn's again.
1. I love Dawn Porter (aka Dawn O'Porter. 2. I love this style of book.
Put 1 and 2 together and I'm pretty freakin' happy. I really enjoyed this book and Dawn's POV on dating as it is pretty different from mine. I think she's very funny and really cheeky. I loved this when I first read it, but after reading (most of) her new YA novel, I think her humor translates really well in that format.
Dawn O'Porter before she added the O' ! Light hearted and hilarious throughout, she describes her series of wonderfully wacky dates so well you feel like you've went along with her. Shockingly honest as always, a must read for any Dawn O'Porter fan or Internet dater.
Absolutely loved this book!! Dawn is such a great writer and the book really captures each character! I learnt a lot by reading this and laughed throughout!
In my rambles (or Synopsis): A witty diary of Dawn Porter's quest for fun via an internet dating website. She documents prior meeting conversations and then the dates/meetup's themselves. We see her meet various people along the way - some she stays in contact with and some, well not so much!
Thoughts: I learnt more life lessons in this book than I think I have learnt in my entire life. I have always been a massive fan of Dawn Porter and I feel like she did not let me down in this book. If you know anything about Dawn Porter you would know that she does not have any shame. She does not hide anything in this book, we speaks, vividly, about her sexual encounters with some of the men (and women) that she meets. She always has this way of inspiring me to be confident within myself, she makes me want to try internet dating haha! All in all this book was a really easy read I read it in a couple days, it did slum a bit towards the end but she finished the book with a bang (literally). I feel like this would be a really good like summer holiday book to read by the beach with a cocktail!
A short and sweet review for a short and sweet book!
Rating: 3/5 - before you are like "Why?" I am going to be honest it is not a literary masterpiece but it is what it is and it was a witty, fun, light read.
While this book was a page-turner (I read it in one sitting), it left me with a sour aftertaste. There is only so much hedonism that a person can take - the main character describes her true life journey through almost obscene instant self-gratification - not just the sex, but the constant eating, drinking and hangovers she boasts about.
I had to rush out to buy an inspiring book that would serve as an antidote this one.
Not really my type of book. It was quite candid but difficult to relate to and I never really got to like the author. I'm sure this book would appeal to others though.
I was recommended this because I love Miss O'Porter, and it was okay, but it didn't blow me off my feet. Good for light fluffy reading though. I finished it in about 3 hours.
Average easy read. Funny in parts... But surely this can't be real? I read as I am a fan of dawn o'porter but it didn't really do it for me. Good, quick holiday read.
