The oldest daughter of a wealthy Russian Jewish merchant, Judith grew up thoroughly schooled in orthodox Judaism. Her intelligence and interest in religious things was a joy to her parents, until she began to question her people's rejection of Yeshua (Jesus) as the Messiah. Her conversion alienated her family and friends, but she became a joyful missionary, spreading Christ's love through the Russian countryside. A true story, written by a personal friend of Judith.
Inspiring account of one girl's work as a Jewish Christian in Russia. Before her conversion, she was an intelligent, happy girl with a doting family and an enviable prospect of a good marriage. From the world's point of view, she had little to gain and much to lose in becoming a Christian. Instead of love and respect, she faced the rejection of her own family, and the persecution of the Bolsheviks.
Simply written by one who knew her, this book is well-worth reading. It challenges us with the question, would we have the same commitment to "love not our lives unto death"?
"Praise be to my Saviour that He has led me out of this dream, for it is much better to awaken here on earth and to leave here with a real life than to open the eyes when entering eternity to meet there the tragic consequences of a spiritual sleep here on earth."
"He will be there for you. He never forsake His own. He has gone this way before us. Let us never take our eyes from Him Who has gone ahead of us and Who has loved us unto death, even unto death on the cross."
I chose three stars, not four, because there are significant sections where gaps are filled by the descretion of the author. It is a special story, and beautifully told, based on the facts that are avaiable. No martyr story fails to stir me, but the special insight I got was about Judith's conversion, or as she describes it, the completion of her faith in the Messiah. It is a simple little book you should read.
A wonderful narrative of a young Jewish Christian woman. She truly loved the Lord with all of her heart, and she demonstrated it in her love for others. A shining example of one totally sold out for her Messiah. I read this many years ago when I was in Junior High. I had forgotten just how impacting this book was. I recommend this to all.
Excellent book. The other portion of her martyrdom is written in the author's other book "In the Flame of Russia's Revolution with God and the Bible" available from Grace Press in Ephrata, PA
