5 stars for importance not readability or any kind of enjoyment. I don't know how this might measure up to Foxes Book of Martyrs but it was written in 1997 and if anything things have only gotten worse. Today March 13, 2011 there is a story of a Pakistani woman sentenced to death for blasphemy as a Christian...but I had to look for it, it wasn't obvious. Recently an Afghanistani man was sentenced to death for converting to Christianity. Do a search on line, it's out there, the stories of Christian persecution and death, but you still have to look.

Christians are still persecuted all around the world and I'm still surprised at how much it's simply accepted. The same people who shriek at the mistreatment of any minority or group anywhere in the world simply turn a blind eye to slaughter, torture and imprisonment of Christians. Most are completely unaware of the magnitude of the persecution of Christians.

At least be aware of it. That's what we have here a simple discussion and report(s).

This book is quite informative & I doubt if many Western Christian have known about what it reveals. The book was published in the early 1990's. However the persecution has continued in many countries in the continent of Africa, particularly the Sudan, also through out Asia, & Muslim Countries. Of the Asian countries was mostly China. Those persecuted include Christian's of many denominations, but mostly Catholic, other religions were Buddhist & mostly Muslims.
This persecution includes; loss of job, loss of home & property, children, torture, imprisonment, & execution.

This is still going on accordingly to many international civil rights groups, such as Amnesty International. It is interesting that the World Council Church does not publicize persecution of people of faith. They are influence by Russia.

There are suggestion on what one can do & what one should not do. My only disappointment in the book is that prayer was not mentioned as a important activity to relieve those who experience such horrors in their lives. My suggestion is if you believe me ask your Priest, Pastor, or leader of your Temple or Mosque, what they know about persecution & annihilation of those who share your faith. This is a must read for those of us who care.

Part one is reference of the state of persecution for every region and most countries. Has a lot of end notes and original source quotations. Not exactly a fun read but accurate and necessary. The state of affairs has deteriorated since this was written in 1997. The second part covers the Western response and reads a little easier. It is very factual and not a hit piece. However, I found myself getting angry.

Good to re-read. Marshall outlines where persecution is occurring in the world and encourages generally apathetic North Americans to take notice. Updates on these situations would be interesting to see.

Everyone living in a "first-world" country should read this book, Christian or not. While it's over 20 years old, it remains relevant to this day.

A passionate and well-researched book about people persecuted for professing Christ, Marshall shows that most of the world (Muslim, Communist, Buddhist/Hinduist, even those who profess Christ) are active in this evil "enterprise." The stories are heart-wrenching, and the way the world and even many Christians respond (or not respond, actually) to this injustice are morally outraging. This book encourages us to stop being in the ignorant on the plight of Christians in the world, and do what we can to help these people. I thank God for using this book to spur me to fervent prayer for these fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord. I recommend this wholeheartedly.

I got to read this book after I read recent work of John L. Allen Global War on Christians. Allen himself recommended this book, and he was right. Allens books is of course more recent, more up to date (Marshall et co. wrote their own current work - Persecuted), well written and important. Their Blood Cries Out was written in mid 90s, so it is just a little bit "dated" - in that that, sadly global persecution of Christians continued unabated, perhaps even intensified in meantime. But even so, this books is so well written, so interesting and persuasive, that it ought to be read even now.

I liked the fact that this was a book about Christian martyrs and I agree with him that people are too little informed about the persecution of the church, but I wish it would have given more practical advice about how to get involved. Towards the end, it sounded more like a rant against the North American church and organizations that aren't doing anything. I would rather know what I can change.

A modern day foxes book of martyrs. But with one twist, it is happening more today globally. Written by a world renowned writer and journalist with solid facts and heart wrenching stories of those standing for the faith. It is sure to jar many awake to realise that today is the day of salvation and we will give account for what we have or have not done with it.
