Four Leaf Cleaver

Rate this book
In the latest Country Store Mystery by Agatha and Macavity Award-winning author Maddie Day, it’s Saint Patrick’s Day in South Lick, Indiana! But a holiday cooking competition at Pans ’N Pancakes is put on the back-burner when a killer strikes…

There’s no mistaking Saint Patrick’s Day at Pans ’N Pancakes. Robbie may only be Irish by marriage to Abe O’Neill, but the shelves of vintage cookware in her southern Indiana store are draped with glittery shamrocks and Kelly-green garlands and her restaurant is serving shepherd’s pie and Guinness Beer brownies. The big event, however, is a televised cooking competition to be filmed on site.

Unfortunately, someone’s luck has run out. Before the cameras start rolling, tough-as-nails producer Tara O’Hara Moore is found upstairs in her B&B room, bludgeoned apparently by the heavy hilt of a cleaver left by her side. Now, not only does Robbie have a store full of festive decorations, she’s got a store full of suspects . . .

Four Leaf Cleaver is the latest book in Maddie Day's Country Store Mysteries. Set in rural Indiana around ~30ish Robbie Jordan, proprietress of a breakfast and lunch eatery, solve crimes on the side. Nope, she's not a private investigator or policewoman... but she's got a knack for getting people to talk. And almost dying. This time, a contest is held at her store/restaurant and she's involved in filming the tv episode around it. Too bad one of the show people up and dies before the filming begins. As the story unfolds, many of the people (contestants, judges and behind-the-scenes staff) have connections to Robbie's friends. Which one of them killed over it? Day has produced a clever St. Patrick's Day tale that adds some spring flavor to our step. All the food and recipes are delicious-sounding, but my favorite part is the relationship between Robbie and her husband, Abe. Lots of side stories coming together, and the police detective, Buck Bird, is getting much smarter. Another wonderful installment and I definitely recommend the series.

First Leaf Cleaver was a fun book to read. It takes place in the town of South Lick, Indiana. Robbie Jordon is the main character who owns Country Store Restaurant Pans' N Pancakes. Danna Beedle is one of Robbie's co-chef. Turner Rao is Robbie's other assistant. Abe O'Neill is Robbie's husband along with his son Sean. Adele Jordon is her aunt. The rest of the characters add to the story.

It is around St. Patrick's Day and the store will host Holiday Hot-Off contest which will be televised. Tara Moore is head of the contest along with her assistant Jaden Routh. Tara and Jaden are staying in rooms above her store. with a separate entrance. There are eight contestants will cook Irish dishes which will include Hoosier Brewing Company's Irish stout. Nicky Lozane is the representative of the company. Vicentra (Vin) is the camera person who will record the contest. There are three judges Buck Bird (police lieutenant) Corrine Beedle (Mayor of town) and Christina James (local chef of Hoosier Hollow Restaurant).Liam Walsh is one of the contestant. He mentioned that several of his recipes had been taken. Tara Moore had authored a cook book on Irish dishes. Could he be referring to Tara?

The day of the contest Robbie arrives first to her store and sees that no one is there to set-up. Her husband, Abe is one of the contestants. Vin arrive and is surprised to see that Robbie is the only one there. Where were Tara and Jaden? Jaden eventually gets there.. He has overslept. All the contestants arrive and set-up as well as the judges. Still no Tara. Jaden says that he feels something is wrong. Robbie and Buck go and check on Tara and find her dead. She has been hit on the back of her head and a cleaver is along side of the body. Buck takes over the situation and brings in Kyle McKean a policeman who guards the door as well as another detective Oscar Thompson. They speak to the contestants before he sends them home. Robbie who has helped the police in the past decides she will try to find out who and why Tara was killed. She is still puzzled about Tara's missing purse and the cleaver with the shamrock on the handle. Is this significant or was there another weapon. She checks her outside camera out and sees a person in dark clothes come in. He must know about the camera as he blocks it when he goes in and out, She calls Buck and Oscar and tells them what she sees. They come along with Anne Henderson head of detectives for the county. She is also trained as a video forensics, They take her computer to do more tests.

This is when the reader goes on an adventure of following Robbie as she starts her sleuthing asking questions, etc. Liam tells Robbie that he has had other dealings with Tara before and not good ones. He had nothing nice to say about her. Nicky told Robbie he and Tara had a lot riding on this contest. Vin and Jarden tell Robbie that Tara had pulled stunts before. Robbie was surprised when her husband Abe said that he knew Tara when they were both in the Navy together at the same base in Japan. Christine also knew Tara and was not surprised that she was killed. Corrine tells Robbie that she recognizes Jarden as he performs at a club as a woman under the name of Jade. She wants Robbie to go with her to check it out which they do. He is there. He tells them that Tara had been blackmailing him. They watch his act and leave.

I will leave the rest of the story to the reader as there is too much to tell. There is so many suspects that could have killed her. It builds up to an exciting conclusion.

I enjoyed the story and will look forward to the next book in this series.

Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing Corp. for this ARC.

This is my first time reading a book by this author. I appreciated the smooth flow of her writing style. I thought the mystery was very good. The sleuth Robbie Jordan worked with the Police and they welcomed her help instead of like in other cozy mysteries where the Detectives warn sleuths to not try to stick their noses into murder cases . The police Lieutenant Buck Bird actually came to Robbie to see if she had turned up any clues in the case. At times I thought the book dragged when it dwelt too much on a work day in Robbie’s restaurant. I did however enjoy the enticing and delicious sounding entrees that Robbie and her two chefs whipped up for breakfast and lunch. I was a bit disappointed when a controversial subject was bought into the story. I felt that the story would have been better without that part added to it. Book included some tempting recipes and ended on a happy note.

When Robbie Jordan agrees to let the Hot Off cooking show film their St Patrick’s Day special in her Restaurant after hours, everyone taking part in the chef competition arrives except Tara Moore, the star of the show. As the time for the show to air on tv draws close Robbie and a judge who is the town’s police lieutenant go in search of Tara. As they enter her B&B room they find Tara dead from a knock on the back of her head by a blount hard object. A cleaver with a four leaf clover engraved in the handle is found on the floor close to her body. It seems that someone associated with the show had reason to want her dead. The question is who could it have been and why did they kill her?

I would recommend this book to readers of Cozy Mystery and to fans of the Author. This book is part of a series but I read it as a stand alone. The book is scheduled to be released on 1/24/23.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions expressed here in this review are entirely my own.

This series definitely feels like visiting old friends, and I love how much the characters have grown in this series! In this installment it is St. Patrick's Day, and Robbie is going all out! She is also hosting a food competition @ pans 'N Pancakes...which is where the trouble starts. When the host is so unlikable it can only lead to one thing...MURDER. This was a fun addition to the series! I would recommend this series to cozy lovers. The recipes in this book all sound fun and delicious!
I received an arc of this book in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank netgalley, the author Maddie Day, and the publisher for the opportunity to review this book!

Four Leaf Cleaver is another cozy mystery by Maddie Day in her Country Store mystery series. I've read a few in this series and was eager to continue on with it.
Pans ’N Pancakes is the restaurant/country store owned by Robbie in South Lick, Indiana. Now this little country store selling vintage cookware and serving delicious home cooked meals does well with the locals, but Robbie jumps at the chance to have a film crew at her little store filming a cooking contest. With the festive shamrocks in place and delicious St. Patrick's Day foods on the menu including Guinness Beer brownies the contestants can't wait to get started as they're all convinced; they'll make the winning meal. Tragedy strikes when the producer is found bludgeoned before filming can even start. I did enjoy the St. Patrick's Day theme of the cozy. You don't see a lot of books with this theme. There were a lot of red herrings thrown in there, clues that you thought took you somewhere but actually didn't. Robbie has a lot going on, she's fairly newly married, runs a restaurant and has family issues she's dealing with. Despite all this she still finds time to be an amateur sleuth though she's told many times not to by the police department. Will this stop her, not quite. I enjoyed the mystery, the characters were great, the elements were all there to make this a cozy that kept my attention and kept me guessing. I could feel the tension building up as the story got closer to its conclusion. Will be on the lookout for more books in this series.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Robbie Jordan is feeling pretty lucky. She has married her favorite Irishman Abe O’Neill and gets along very well with his teenage son, Sean. Her Pans ’N Pancakes Country Store and Restaurant is all decked out for the holidays and serving Irish fare. Plus her place has been chosen to host a St. Patty’s Day themed cooking competition.

The production staff and the show’s host arrive to get things ready to start filming the next day. The sponsor stops by to drop off the ingredient every dish must contain. A contestant even comes in to get the lay of the land. Robbie is excited and hopes the event will go off without a hitch and bring some publicity to her restaurant and store.

Sadly, as people start to arrive to tape the show, host Tara O’Hara Moore is missing. She is not answering calls or texts. She had booked a room at the B&B upstairs so Robbie goes to check on her guest. She finds Ms. O’Hara Moore dead and a huge cleaver on the floor. The woman has clearly been hit several times probably by the cleaver. Robbie is thankful the killer didn’t use the cleaver as intended but is very upset that she was killed and in one of her rooms no less.

It is always fun to drop in for a visit with Robbie and the gang in South Lick, Indiana. Pans ’N Pancakes is the place to be to catch up with town gossip and old friends. All of Ms. Day’s characters are well-developed and continue to evolve in each new story. Many of Robbie’s friends are expecting and she and Abe are trying to add their own little bundle to the family. Sean is a wonderful stepson, learning to drive and even helping Robbie with a little internet sleuthing. I love the way these relationships are growing. Danna is having some romance issues and Turner is busy helping his family make maple syrup on their farm after he ends his day at the store but both are perfect employees, they support each other and Robbie and come up with some great ideas for specials. Buck and Oscar work together to catch the killer and both are happy when Robbie adds her two cents. Oscar has some fun news of his own.

We are introduced to several new characters in the show’s production staff, contestants, and sponsor. A couple of other people drop in at Pans ’N Pancakes too. They are all cleaver-ly created and many are suspects. One has an interesting hobby and a family dilemma. Most are hiding something or full of blarney. One of them just has to be guilty.

The mystery the author puts forth was pretty complicated and between Robbie and the professionals they were getting close. Then Robbie found herself in a pickle and I was kicking myself because I had gone in a different and very wrong direction in my personal investigation instead of going with my gut. I do enjoy the way Ms. Day entangles her subplots and the murder mystery and this time that must have gotten me a bit distracted. LOL

Being set in a restaurant food is always on the table and tickling my taste buds. I was thrilled to see the recipe for Phil’s Stout and Cheese Biscuits. I have copied it down and handed it off to my personal chef, also known as my husband. I hope he is able to whip some up soon.

Four Leaf Cleaver was filled with the family and friends moments I love all twisted up with a complex mystery that was truly entertaining. The conclusion of the story put into print what we all knew and made me even more excited than I usually am for the next book in this series and I am always excited when Maddie Day has something in the works. Thank you, Maddie, for another Perfect Escape. Until next time . . .

I absolutely LOVE a culinary cozy mystery and I am OBSESSED with cooking competitions!!
I liked all the descriptions of the food (and drinks 🤪🤪); there was definitely a very St Patrick’s Day feel to it.
I really love when authors include extras in their books, like this one included recipes It just really makes me see that the author put in so much extra work to put out a really fantastic read! I see it, and I love you 🤪
If there’s anything a cozy mystery is known for, it is for its giant cast of quirky characters, and boy did this one have it. It’s literally impossible to guess the killer because there are soooo many crazy people that most likely did it 🤪🤪
I really liked how this book ended pretty much every chapter on a question that really made you think …. “Oh okay so then that person definitely did it??” It was crazy and messed with my head so much! 🤣
Thank you so much to Maddie Day and Kensington Books for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review 💕💕

The Country Store Mystery series is another of my favorites. I love checking in on Robbie Jordan and all her family, friends, and fellow townsfolk in South Lick, Indiana. It is close to St. Patrick's Day and Robbie's Pans and Pancakes is hosting a televised cooking competition. Before the cameras even start rolling, producer Tara O’Hara Moore is found upstairs in her B&B room, apparently bludgeoned by the heavy hilt of a cleaver left by her side. Who wanted Tara dead? Will the show go on? Once again, Robbie is right in the middle of a murder and local police lieutenant Buck Bird is there to do the real work.

I enjoy this series for a lot of reasons and all were present in Four Leaf Cleaver. Robbie is a great protagonist. She is recently married, still running her restaurant/store, and is a great stepmom. She is smart, intuitive, caring, a great boss and friend as well as a snoop. Buck is one of my favorite characters. He seems to be a bit of a laid back hayseed, but that helps with is investigations. He loves to eat Robbie's food, pick her brain and his sayings are a hoot. We didn't see as much of Robbie's employees in this one, but they were there for her to bounce ideas off of. There were several suspects, some interesting characters, a few twists and a great reveal. Of course with all of her books, there are some delicious sounding recipes included. This was a fun story to take me into spring with all the clover, shamrocks and green needed. Another winner in the Country Store Mysteries.

Wickedly well-crafted plot to keep you guessing who the guilty party is while leaving bread crumbs to the right solution! I absolutely love the characters of this series as they are so realistic that they truly feel like old friends and neighbors rather than just characters on a page. I typically listen to this series, but I couldn't wait for the audio when I saw the book was available to me now! My only regret is that I finished the book too quickly and now must wait for the author to create another delightful edition! There are so many great storylines developing for these characters that I will be waiting on pins and needles!

St. Patrick's day celebration, foodies, and babies galore is what this new book brings in the series. Always a fun read.

Its springtime in South Lick Indiana, everyone is excited about a hot food cookout competition featuring an Irish menu and Pans and Pancakes has been chosen to host the televised event. Queue in one unlikeable and dead tv host and you have the beginning of another great mystery. Robbie has her hands full with the restaurant/B&B and show, she also has the baby blues as her friends all seem to be pregnant and she is still trying. No time to dwell on baby news as she, Lt. Buck, and Statie Oscar have to solve the murder.

Another good who done it by author Maddie Day, sure to keep you guessing.

I think I'm ready for Robbie to be bumped off or put out of commission. She constantly asks questions showing her noseyness. She regularly asks the police questions & is no longer told no or being shown rolled eyes but almost always is told things. She's also comfortable enough to tell instead of ask the police things like get so & so. I'm also tired of her always being attacked.

"He barked out a laugh but he was full of scorn not humor", referring to the killer. Do we need to be told something so obvious? Isn't it enough that we regularly have to hear all of her internal questions instead of just the usual ones? Asking herself, could this person be the killer? Could he have used this or done that?

My sixth in this series although it is the eleventh instalment, Robbie Jordan, the owner of Pans 'N Pancakes makes a great amateur sleuth. She gets involved when Tara Moore, a TV producer and head of the Holiday Hot-Off coookery contest being held for S Patrick's day, is found having being hit apparently by a cleaver.

Nefariousness lurks in this charming tale set in South Lick, Indiana. Robbie is married to handsome and charming Abe O'Neill. She is a methodical, determined and single-minded protagonist and you get a real sense of place and family from her restaurant/ diner which is one of her main focuses. The supporting cast is a real asset to the series including the regular customers and employee, a co-chef, Danna Beedle. The scrumptious sounding dishes make you happy to find some of the recipes listed at the back of the book. Humorous and endearing, I shall be continuing with this series and hope to read a few of the earlier instalments while I wait for book twelve to be released. With its compelling plot, drama aplenty, great bunch of characters and mountains of mayhem added to the mix, this one is very highly recommended as is the series.

At least this death in her building didn't force Robbie to close the restaurant and shop part of her business, but her sleuthing kicked in and even old Oscar might've admitted she could be helpful. Well, except for when she'd fending off a killer and needs some backup.

I loved the family moments with Robbie and Sean. She even came up with a nickname for him that he approved of. He's really grown into a super nice older teen, but he'd always been a pretty nice kid since he's Abe's son. Sean'll make a good sleuthing buddy someday but for now it was safer to have him do online research. I did feel so sorry for Robbie who seemed to be surrounded by women with either new babies or babies on the way. I definitely was in her shoes at one point a long time ago.

Good news was celebrated by all at the end with all the pieces of the case fitting in and being explained. I'm eager to see what the next book brings!

South Lick is always somewhere I love to visit (although maybe it could be a little safer?). The mystery was well paced and had so many possible suspects, I had no idea who the guilty party was until the very end. Robbie and her friends are always good for a laugh, particularly Buck and his Buck-isms. And the food makes my mouth water every time. Looking forward to the next and all the changes in store for Robbie and the gang.

I received a free copy of, Four Leaf Cleaver, by Maddie Day, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I keep reading the title as, Four Leaf Clover, instead of Cleaver, very good trickery. I love the irish vibes in this book, Liam wearing Irish spring soap, etc. I love all things Irish and I enjoyed this book. Who killed Nicky, who wanted him dead? A very interesting read, the book kept me guessing until the end. I really enjoyed the recipes in the back of the book.

Four Leaf Cleaver by Maddie Day is a great cozy mystery that is the eleventh book in the wonderful Country Store Mystery series. I just love this series!

I have read all of the books within this series, and it just seems to begetting better and better. I feel a kindred spirit with Robbie Jordan, and I have nothing but respect for her balancing her business, friends, marriage, and family with class, love, acceptance, and at the same time…no nonsense. I love the development of all of the characters within South Lick, Indiana as the books have progressed and Ms. Day continues to draw me in with each book.

I loved the St. Patrick’s Day theme, the murder/mystery, and the ending ;)

5/5 stars

I received a free copy from the publisher through Netgalley and voluntarily reviewed it.

Four Leaf Cleaver is the eleventh book in the Country Story Mysteries series. This is one of my favorite cozie mystery series and I was excited to dive into this latest installment. It's Saint Patrick's Day and Robbie has agreed to have a cooking show take place in her shop after work hours. The producer ends up getting killed and Robbie gets involved into another mystery.

The mystery was a good one. Although somehow I managed to guess the culprit in one of the first scenes with all the suspects, not even sure why, but I knew for sure that I was right and I was. Nevertheless I really enjoyed seeing the mystery play out. I felt it was fun seeing everything play out while knowing the culprit and seeing how the characters got to the same conclusion. I felt like there were plenty of suspects and plenty of secrets that come to light along the way, which I always enjoy. I thought it made sense how Robbie came to the conclusion and I liked how she was smart about her sleuthing. The ending was great and wrapped everything up well.

One of my favorite parts of this series is reading about Robbie's daily life and her store. In this book Robbie and her husband Abe are trying to get pregnant, but they don't have much luck yet. Besides that she's growing closer to her stepson Sean, which I enjoyed reading about. And then there is her work at the restaurant, I always enjoy reading about her work days and the specials they come up with. There wasn't as much about the actual cooking show, it was more the set up for the mystery and the characters involved, but I thought that worked here.

To summarize: Another great read in this series. This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series and I had fun reading this one. The mystery was a good one, although I did manage to guess the culprit very early one. I still enjoyed seeing things progress and how Robbie figured out who was the killer. The daily life parts are one of my favorite parts of this series. I like reading about Robbie's daily life, the characters she interacts with and her work at her restaurant. I already look forward to the next book in the series!

Four Leaf Cleaver Earns 5/5 Stout Sips … Engaging Gem!

Maddie Day has kept this eleventh book in her series fresh and entertaining with the reality cooking show, “Holiday Hot-Off,” set to film their St. Paddy’s Day themed episode at Robbie Jordan’s Pan ‘N Pancakes shop, and one of the contestants is her husband, Abe. The rules may be simple (use an ingredient from the sponsor Hoosier Brewing Company), but the result is criminal (the host Tara Moore is found dead). The murder weapon with the four-leaf clover insignia points to a member of the crew or a competitor, so generally anyone involved in the show. Robbie’s involvement in the investigation is expected by the police since her shop is a crime scene and she’s “been there, done that,” before. In the process she uncovers intriguing thefts, blackmail, and threats. Big “Whisks” Up! This one has a healthy wife and husband team with realistic dreams and disappointments, eclectic friends up for an adventure, and a mystery with all the suspects, motives, dead ends, and peril that’ll keep you reading. And … Cheers to Stout! Enjoy these St. Paddy’s Day easy-to-follow recipes: Abe’s Irish Steak and Stout Stew, Stout and Cheese Biscuits, Raspberry Scones, Irish Cheddar Cheese Soup, and Irish Whiskey Cocoa.

Disclosure: I received an ARC from Kensington thru NetGalley. My review is voluntary with honest insights and comments.

Robbie is one of a kind, and her cafe is the kind we would all like to spend hours enjoying. The food sounds delicious, and I could spend my paycheck buying vintage cookware. Four Leaf Cleaver takes readers into the world of producers, reality tv, and murder.

Robbies cafe is the setting for a television cooking show. From the moment producer Tara steps into Pan-n-Pancakes, chaos ensues. Robbie doesn’t care for the woman any more than her staff and contestants do, but she hopes things will settle down once the show starts filming. Before the first day even starts, Robbie finds Tara dead, a cleaver next to her body, and an entire cafe full of suspects. Evidence mounts as Robbie starts asking questions, but it looks like the killer may have her in their sight.

This story keeps readers guessing. The suspects all have plausible motives, and everyone one of them makes you feel as if they have to be the killer. Even Robbie's husband, Abe, is a suspect. As suspicions rise, you will wonder if Robbie will be the next person to get a cleaver up alongside the head. When we find out the killer's identity, we are both surprised and elated. Four Leaf Cleaver has all the elements a good story needs, great characters, a fabulous location, credible suspects, and a killer that keeps readers on their toes. I love this series and am thrilled with this latest addition.

Four Leaf Cleaver” the 11th book in the Country Store Mystery series by Maddie Day. I just love this series! It's Saint Patrick's Day in South Lick, Indiana, but a holiday cooking competition at Robbie Jordan's country store and restaurant Pans 'N Pancakes is put on the back-burner when a killer strikes.

I love the setting of South Lick, Indiana and I love Robbie and her staff at Pans N Pancakes they are like one big family. Now that she’s married to Abe and Sean is officially her stepson, she has whole heartily taken on the role. I really like the relationship she has with Sean and the love he has for her. It’s baby season in South Lick, will Robbie be next …

There were enough twists to keep me intrigued and wanting to know how it ends. The plot and story were good and seemed to flow at a good pace.

I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys a cozy filled with down home characters and a small town atmosphere.

I requested and received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from Kensington and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my OWN.

This is an enjoyable book in the series, especially if you love cooking competitions. I was hoping for a little more St Paddy's day flare, but I did enjoy the description of certain Irish dishes and how small pieces were incorporated throughout. I did find the killer to be quite predictable, which keeps happening as I continue this series. I love reading about Robbie's store and her personal life and this one is full of longing for a baby that I felt so keenly and just want the best for Robbie and Abe. I hope to continue to see more of her personal life in the future as that is my favorite aspect!

I enjoyed this book from cover to cover! The mystery had many suspects, and they all looked guilty in different parts of the book. There were so many people who hated the victim! This is a series that really should be read in order because of the detailed character development, and all of the usual characters are very likable. I hope this series continues on and on!

A cooking competition at Pots & Pans-how exciting...what could go wrong? Apparently...everything! Robbie has agreed to let her restaurant for the filming of a cooking competition and soon has several mysteries to solve. With the usual cast of characters that we've come to love, Maddie Day has plotted a delicious mystery!

Fun book to read especially around March and St. Patrick’s Day. The characters are relatable, realistic, and likable.. I really enjoyed reading this story with a competition for a setting. The mystery is full of twists and turns.

All thoughts and opinions are my own, and I have not been by anyone.

Four Leaf Cleaver is Maddie Day's eleventh book in the A Country Store Mysteries series.

Robbie Jordan’s Pans ‘N Pancakes, her restaurant/country store, is hosting a televised cookoff called Holiday Hot-Off, a St. Patrick's Day-themed event. Robbie hasn’t seen any of the other telecasts, but she figures that the show will probably bring new customers to her restaurant. Eight contestants will be vying for the top prize, and one of those is Robbie’s husband, Abe. The criteria for the cook-off are that dishes must be ready to serve in an hour and use Hoosier Brewing Company’s Irish stout, the cook-off’s sponsor. On the first day, as the contestants are getting set up, the show’s producer, Tara, her assistant, Jaden, and camerawoman, Vin, are busy setting up the shots they want to use. Robbie finds all of this fascinating but notices Tara seems brash to her crew and some of the contestants.

The crew and contestants are ready to begin but have not seen Tara. Tara stays in a B&B room upstairs, and Robbie heads to check on Tara. Robbie finds Tara’s body savagely attacked. Robbie finds a meat cleaver with a four-leaf clover on its handle near Tara’s lifeless body. There is no shortage of suspects. Has her ex-husband killed her, thereby seeking revenge for getting his restaurant? Maybe Jaden or Vin have had enough of her mistreatment or the contestant that claims she had stolen one of his recipes.

I love this series. The characters are well-developed, believable, and entertaining. I particularly enjoy Lt, Bird and his use of the local dialect, but this book it proved to be a little light. A couple of Robbie’s friends will have babies, and Robbie is wondering if she will ever become pregnant. The story is well-written, plotted, and moves at a quick pace. There were enough twists and turns that I kept guessing about the killer near the end of the book.

Delicious-sounding recipes are included at the end of the book.

I’m looking forward to the next book in this wonderful series.

2.5/3 There’s no mistaking Saint Patrick’s Day at Pans ’N Pancakes. [amazon synopsis]

The mystery gets a 3, but the addition of so many PC characters [to lure in those who care about trans, gay & lesbians] is annoying. Also, don't really need to know her daily routine so many times. good recipes.

Four Leaf Cleaver

Maybe it’s just me but this series seems to be getting a little bit less interesting. I still like the characters but the story just wasn’t very enthralling to me. The baby fixation was a bit excessive too. It wasn’t bad but maybe it’s time for me to say goodbye or at least take a break.

It’s blatantly obvious a 70 year old is writing as a 30 year old. This book definitely wasn’t “fire”.
