Who’s the unknown girl sitting by the window at sunset?
Akane and Amemura continue to research the haunted places of their town as their friendship grows. It took me forever to read this. Not because it was bad, mind, but because it was so sumptuous. This is a quiet book that happens to be jam packed with details and trying to read it in a single go was like eating an entire cake. The art style is wonderfully soft and I love its simple premise of debunking very innocuous hauntings.
Akane and Amemura’s friendship (and mild hints of more than friendship) is such a charmingly slow boil and they form the perfect team to explore their town and the gorgeous scenery therein while juggling their school lives and other responsibilities. It’s a character study and the town itself is part of that.
It’s frequently stunning and the many continued hints that Amemura is a spirit herself are a lot of fun. There’s one panel in particular of her on a staircase with her entire face obscured in shadow that was just spectacular. This series handles both loud and quiet moments equally well.
If you didn’t care for the slow pace of the first one, or its narrative conceit, this is exactly the same book with new hauntings. I was completely taken with the first volume and that continues with this new one. Delightful.
I've been waiting for this book for more than two years, and it did not disappoint. I love the basic concept of the series, that two friends investigate and debunk supposedly supernatural things around town. I love the hints that there may actually be something supernatural right in front of our eyes. I love the gentle tone and slow pace. And I love the misty watercolor art. I very much want more of this series, but there was so long between volumes that I'm kind of worried. I really hope I'm wrong about that, because I very much want to see where this is all going.
I am soooo glad this finally came out!! it was meant to come out ages ago but I don't think the first volume sold as well....for whatever reason, I've been waiting years for this, and I'm super happy to get to read the next chapter in akane and amemura's story. I still feel like the hints about amemura being some kind of ghost are so intriguing!!! more of this please, I love their little detective adventures!!
