Stuck On You

Rate this book
Life can be hard to navigate at times, but for Lazarus Mitchell, it’s been a constant battle. Marrying his high school sweetheart and putting his dreams on hold to help her fulfill hers, he kept pushing through life’s adversities in hopes of seeing better days. Throughout the journey, he realized that she didn’t have the tenacity he had or the wherewithal to look difficulty in the face and choose to overcome it.

Feeling heavily depressed and discouraged for the first time in his life, he worries that despair will overtake him. So, he chooses to begin anew. He enrolls in college, determined to fulfill the dreams he put on hold. He hires a tutor to help him get acclimated once again, and upon first sight of her, he realizes that love hasn’t given up on him.

Kiana Solé Jordan is a matriculating graduate student on the campus of Lamar University. She loves science, but chemistry sparks her interest the most, and her love for the subject makes her want to help others understand and love it too. Tutoring is gratifying and constantly makes her smile, but when a more seasoned student requests her tutelage, she feels a lot more than gratification. The fact that he’s twelve years her senior does nothing to diminish her attraction to him. For once, she wants to take a chance on something not so safe, and the excitement of that has her feeling things she never thought possible.

Lazarus has a lot of baggage to let go of, and Kiana wants to help him along during the process. But that decision isn’t welcomed by the most important people in her life, causing her to question her actions more than she should. Kiana wonders if love is worth her ignoring her parents’ and sister’s warnings regarding her new relationship, while Lazarus wonders if choosing love is worth the adversity that will come with it. Can Kiana cut ties with her family to choose the ultimate love? Can Lazarus’s ability to love be resurrected and strengthened enough to cause him to become the warrior he once was?

Starting with poetry, writing has always been a constant in Monica's life. The interest began in her teenage years, being in love for the first time. Her love for writing has only progressed. Song lyrics and poetry led to short stories, then one day in her down time, a short story became a 56k word novel. It has been non-stop since then. Being a wife and mother, has only added to the joys of Monica's life. Attaining a BS in Sociology, helping her better understand people and their behaviors, has only helped her become a better writer, understanding characters and their complex personalities. Romance of all types has been her passion, and she plans to continue honing her skills in that genre.

Imagine loving someone SO MUCH that you put your dreams on hold for 10 MF years in order to help them realize their own. I’m talking about all your energy, blood , sweat, tears and financial resources into them so that they can go to college, get their degree and start their own business. Can you visualize it? Can you feel the depths of what that LOVE consists of? Ok good!

Now imagine that person hitting you with a big fat 🖕🏽🖕🏽 you, calling you every worthless bum and low life known to man, putting you out the home y’all worked hard to build TOGETHER, DIVORCING you, and wait….. cutting off your MF phone leaving you to now fend for yourself with nothing because forget a cup, you’ve poured the entire MF pitcher in their shït!!! Yeah we’re angry, we’re bitter, we’re feeling like “what’s the point”?! Oh but GOD! Him and a devoted mama got ya back like an epidural got a pregnant woman that’s 7cm 🤣😭😩!

I just summed up what poor Lazarus had to endure! But his ultimate test turned out to be his true testimony! Especially after he crossed paths with an educated woman 12 years his junior. ( he’s 36, she’s 24)! Kiana had her own set of problems still living at home with two controlling parents that flipped their MF wigs back once they found out that their “pure”, “untainted” daughter was busting it wide open for a real nïggä!! Whew the journey! Good job Monica! This was a good story! The audio was decent, the narrators get a C+, and will certainly keep you entertained!

Monica 😫😩… 36 year old Lazarus Mitchell was dreamy! & the relationship that was developed between he & 24 year old Kiana Jordan, chefssssss kisss 💋!! When she said to him “You’ve been nothing short of a gentleman tonight, but now I’m giving you the opportunity to be less than a gentleman. You’re free to disrespect my body any way you choose to..” 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 because, E N E R G Y!!!!!! I mean, there is nothing more to say about them as a couple!

They did go through it individually, Lazarus with that goofy ex wife Jamie, who did him dirty from the beginning!!!! Kiana, had some trash parents, but I’m glad you brought that back cause they pissed me off real bad 😂🤣!

I love Lazarus’s mom, she was funny as whaaaaaaaaaat! As well, I’m glad at the outcome with Braylon (he would make a great main character).! Either way, I gobbled this book up and I don’t even eat turkey on thanksgiving 🤣😂! You signed my book and said to enjoy and enjoyed it I did! Standing ovation asssssssssss usual 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾!

Laz was fresh out of a divorce from a spiteful bxtch. Laz wanted to go back to pursue his degree as he dropped out so Jamie could pursue her degree and career. When it came Laz turn she didn’t want to support him & said she wanted a divorce. Fast forward Laz mom Ms. Natalie convinces him to go back to school to get his degree. Laz working at the club for his second job meets Kiana. They end up finding out they are attending the same school and we get to see the love between the two blossom. Ms.Natalie got her revenge against Jamie. Jamie had the audacity to still try to bring drama to Laz life. Laz really should have let Kiana whoop her ass some more 🤣🤣🤣. Overall this was a cute story.

Drama!

Christian romances know they be heavy with the drama! I’m so glad Lazarus and Kiana were able to make it through because whew it was a mess of drama following them each and every way! Kiana’s family being controlling and just disrespectful because that’s typical of church families. I’m glad they did come around. Lazarus (Laz) I’m glad he got away from that wicked Ex wife. Now her involvement seemed foolish and just disrespectful majority of the time. I don’t understand how she asked for the divorce then got jealous he’s moving on. She was psychotic for sure smh. She was the one who needed therapy. Monica Walters was good at giving Laz his soft and quiet side without him looking weak. I think overall the book is good and you’ll have a fun!

3.5 stars The conflicts/obstacles between the main characters in the first ~2/3 of the book felt overblown. I liked the last part of the book more, though the conflict was external to the couple so I didn’t feel as invested in the relationship by that point. My favorite part of the book was def Mama Nat! Lol (She’s why I’m rounding up on the star rating!)

Lazarus was so broken by his ex it took him a while to get back to loving himself. When he gets himself back on track he meets Kiana at his job and he is intrigued by her but the 12 year age gap causes problems. Kiana is in grad school still living with her parents. Her father is controlling and her family in general don’t like that Lazarus isn’t as stable as he should be. I loved Lazarus and his mom’s relationship. I was surprised about what happened with her relationship with Mr. Greer. I couldn’t stand Kiana’s dad. I’m not sure I could’ve forgiven him as easily.

I loved Lazarus! That’s the review.. kidding. This book captured my interest when I noticed it was an age gap and BBW rep. I listened to the audiobook and I think the narrators did a pretty good job bringing the story to life. I’m not sure if I’ve heard them before. What I enjoyed the most about this story was that Lazarus was a true hard working man. After a divorce left him without, he is starting his life over and working towards his degree. When he laid eyes on Kiana she sparked a flame in him. They were so stinking cute together. Kiana matched his energy. I loved Laz’s mother, she brought good energy to the story because Kiana’s parents worked my nerves. The flow of the story was good and I loved the spice scenes.. but the way I was squealing at how sweet Laz was.. my heart! Oh & his ex wife got what she deserved, period. Good read for me!

I was introduced to this author through her Berotte Family Series and this book has a different vibe then what I'm used to with that series. That's definitely not a bad thing because who would want to read an author who has no range? Although the male leads in Monica's other books have a great deal of swag and BDE Lazarus was a little more on the sensitive side. He wasn't afraid to cry or show and express his feelings. IMO, he didn't exude a lot of the alpha male characteristics as some of her other male leads however, he definitely stepped up and handled business when he needed to.

Lazarus has been with his high school sweetheart Jamie since the age of 16. In his freshman year of college, Lazarus drops out to take care of her and put her through school (10 years). The deal was that once she was established in her career, she would do the same for him. Well, his turn never came. After 15 years of marriage and 3 successful years of Jamie owning her own psychology practice, she decides that she can no longer do life with him. Her reason, his career as a garbage truck driver (that same career that took care of her and put her through school) doesn't bring in enough money. Ms. Holier than thou is upset that she is now the breadwinner, paying an astronomical mortgage (for the house that she wanted), and appalled that Lazarus is now ready to return to school. She divorces him and kicks him out of the house.

After almost two years of being in a deep depression and just going through the motions Natalie, Lazarus mother, who is an integral part of his life is able to help him see that a dream deferred is not a dream denied. Lazarus who is now working two jobs to make ends meet, lives in substandard housing, and barely getting through the day to day eventually agrees to enroll back into school. Right before enrolling he meets Kiana on his second Job as a bouncer at a night club. There is an instant attraction however, neither of them pursues the other.

Kiana is somewhat of a preacher's kid. Her father, a deacon and her mother a deaconess holds very tight reigns over Kiana and her sister Kinisha. Kiana a year away from earning a doctorate, a Pharm D degree, and who also tutors at Lamar University runs into Lazarus again as he enrolls for summer classes. Once Kiana gets over the shock of the 12-year age difference between her and Lazarus she decides that he is someone that she wants to get to know. Everything is smooth sailing until Kiana's tells her parents just how old Lazarus is, it doesn't matter that she is twenty-four to his thirty-six. Oh! did I mention that Kiana still lives at home, pays no bills, and only source of income is her tutoring job at the university. All Kiana is required to do is put gas in the car her parents paid for and attend church every Sunday. Kiana's father, who highly disapproves of their relationship kicks her out of the house not once but twice.

Kiana now has to decide between the love of her life or her family. Lazarus has to decide if he's willing to step up and take care of another woman... again when he can barely take care of himself. Is Kiana worth the risk of being used and hurt again?

4.5 Stars.

I really enjoyed this incredibly sexy, incredibly compelling age gap romance that is at its heart a story of healing and redemption. The premise is that two years after a brutal divorce, Lazarus is still depressed, living paycheck to paycheck until he’s convinced to enroll in university. There he meets privileged grad student, Kiana, who had caught his eye at one of his jobs, and who becomes his tutor. When sparks fly and the couple becomes very close very quickly, not everyone is happy about the joy they find with one another.

I really enjoyed the characters. Both Lazarus and Kiana were incredibly likeable especially because they were willing to be so vulnerable about their emotions. There are not many Black romance heroes like Lazarus who are very much in tune with their emotions and fully cognizant of their mental health issues and taking steps to deal with things. Kiana was the height of instalove but she was also mature about it and willing to sacrifice. I enjoyed the way this novel also dealt with controversial subjects in contemporary relationships like submission (in the biblical sense not the erotic sense although there WAS a lot of the erotic in this book) and the realities of power and money dynamics in relationships and the patriarchal influences over who provides in a relationship. The secondary characters were enjoyable- Laz’s mother was a standout but even Kiana’s family when they appeared popped off the page. And even though often, her parents were being trifling, I could see their point and their concern and it felt realistic how toxically far they took things in their quest for control. The major villain was delightfully villainous but also had some complexity to her and it was one of those things where one can never understand why she treated Laz so badly. I loved the inclusion of Kiana’s Christian faith as a key part of this erotic romance- I thought the messaging was perfect and I loved how her faith interplayed with her life and the kind of exposition of the positive and negative aspects of church but how ultimately, it’s a place of imperfect people who believe in God and are hopefully trying to do better by His Grace. The inclusion of elements of faith by no means makes this a Christian/Inspirational romance but I enjoyed the use of faith as a character motivation.

I found the dynamic between Lazarus and Kiana quite interesting. Indeed despite the 12-year age gap, it often felt that Kiana was “the strong one” in the relationship even though Lazarus also showed up for her quite a bit. Lazarus’ could have turned the massive betrayal from his first wife into a villain origin story but he was actually quite mature and measured in his reaction. Some might say he was too soft but I think he was perfect. The relationship dynamic between Laz and Kiana felt realistic- immature at times in the beginning but always heartfelt.

Overall, I thought this was really well written- compelling, difficult to put down, the kind of book that has you talking back at the characters and commenting on the situations. I listened to it in audio and the narrators did an amazing job with this book. I’ve read lots of things from this author but this is far and away my favourite book from this author and i think she did an amazing job with it. My first 5-ish star read of the year.

Where is My Lazarus?

First of all... whewww that hair sounds so soft and sexy! There age was a big deal to me initially, so I focused on their character. Laz was definitely a beautiful man that ended up being damaged by someone who was the perfect example of hurt people, hurt people. Kiana was so mature and encouraging! She was just what he needed. This was a beautiful Black Romance! Great job! 💐🎊🎉

Age is definitely a number when you’re with the right person. Maturity is want that matters. Age shouldn’t define that. Laz went above and beyond for his Ki. We love to see it. 🥺😩❤️🥰
Kianna beat the odds she proved that she’s still going to get shit done at all cost. I’m so happy for her. She don’t give up not one bit. 🥳🎉🎓
Lazarus going back to school and pursuing his goals was everything. He was determined/dedicated and is still going on. So proud of him. ❤️🥺
Despite them going through trials and tribulations they kept pushing no matter what. Team work make the dream work. They deserved each other. ☺️

I loved everything about this book! This was truly well written. Lazarus was a trying man that did not give up! Some men would have coward and just not gave a damn about love anymore. Kiana said nope you gonna share this heart! Lazarus’s Momma was a trip! She was a bold ass character in a good way or bad depending how you saw her. These authors truly be finding some inspiration when they develop parents in a book lol.

How Wonderful To See A man Show His Emotions!

Monica, Monica that's it that's all. These characters had me going through every emotion. Lazarus didn't deserve to have the hand he was dealt but boy oh boy did he shine in the end. His, mom gave him so Mich love the correct way. I wanted Jamie to get all that she got. How can people treat others bad and expect nothing to come back?
Kiana, was such a straight up mature young lady she had direction, purpose and drive. Unfortunately, her parents were not open with their love for church folk they fit the mold of love with conditions. I have seen this happen so much to people and after they get enough inner strength to stand on their square to just choose themselves over the conditions. This was so good. A true unconditional love story. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Lazarus the Phoenix!

Monica Walters writes some of the best male characters in the game. Lazarus is a man who has taken a hit in life and in love by his former life. Lazarus decides to finally give himself the opportunity he once gave up and enrolls back in school ,where meets Kiana. These two can’t resist each other and embark on a smoldering romance. Lazarus is a beautiful man who loves hard and will do anything for the woman he loves. The fear of losing all he lost the first time around keeps him from truly loving Kiana. Monica always has a way of adding this layer of vulnerability to even the hardest men, that make you just melt. Stuck on You is a great story with lasting characters.

Lazarus😍😍

I loved this story. Lazarus was dealt a crappy hand when it came to his marriage, and he let up knock him off his square, but when he got back up, he got all the way.
I loved the way he loved Kiana, and the way she loved him. Mama Nat was the type of mom everyone needs. She loved her son through it all. Kiana's parents made me mad, but they came around
I wish I could have put hands on Jaime, I really couldn't stand her.
I didn't want to like Braylon at first, but he really stepped up for Kiana when she needed it most.
This book sent me through multiple emotions. Read it, it's worth it.

Thoughts while reading:

Disclaimer- didn’t know this was an age gap (went in blind) which more often than not weirds me out, but I still very much enjoyed the story.

Oh his wife just a little wicked..

Too sensitive? Damn, she ruthless.

Ok momma, get his ass together.. wifey a bitch. (A little over bearing, but I feel the love).

“This country was just fine with its people crippled with debt” - Lazarus-clock it

Not she called him a spawn of satan 😂😂😂

I’m crying the Rev said no one was conceived to Amazing Grace 😂😂😂

His momma can’t stand his ex wife Jamie.

Yea Laz has to protect his heart, but I get it Kiana.

Lazarus? I need 3 of them.

Who is mommas man? 😂

Oh shit Braylin’s dad?

Not you rather eat lunch with the devil himself.

So Braylin a little cool huh

Her parents trash..

I knew they was coming for Knisha as soon as Kiana said 🖕🏾 yall

Not pinch his ass in the throat 😂

Tsk tsk Jamie.. not you done fafo

There were so many problems with this story. Most importantly where was the romance? What’s this supposed to be love at first sight? If that is the case, fine but where is the romance. Kianna was obsessed and depressed after one date. Lazarus was extremely gun shy cause his ex wife was an ungrateful heffa.
The author needed to do some research on a few topics mentioned. They only went on one date and one dinner at his house with his mom and her “boyfriend” and then they were in love. Make it make sense. And most of the story was a “ telling” The ending was abrupt and unfulfilling.

They have good sex, the nasty kind. If you like a story with a lot of people and one too many story arcs might be for you.

Stuck on You by Monica Walters ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This story had me in my emotions, right along with the characters. Monica did a great job of making me feel akin to her characters, which prompted me to be empathetic as they struggled to love and do right by one another.

The salacious teasing that ensued was well worth it. I found myself bashful at times. (I listened to the audio book at work. It had me feeling like a voyeur as I'm great at visualization 😆 ). This book will definitely pull at your heart strings. Monica really had me going through it 😩 before she had me going through it 😋😛🔥

1st... Age gap romances are not my favorite to read.

2nd... The story was still enjoyable. I liked Lazarus, he seemed a bit immature but also mature if that makes sense. He loves with his whole heart, so much so that he gave up his life for a woman that was supposed to love him but was so completely selfish and unhealed that she fumbled. Kianna grew up sheltered and controlled by her religious parents but also operated on faith and knew exactly what she wanted. The way her parents did her was so wrong. The deacons at the church be into all kinds of mess.

3rd... The narrators were horrible. Also, I would have thought this book was published a few years ago but looks like it was published last year. The verbiage used seemed dated.

I listened to this on Audible while I was waiting my paperback book to arrive. I truly enjoyed it because I got the chance to witness a male character giving all of himself unselfishly. Lazarus was truly everything a woman could hope for and then some. All of that for the wrong woman. She nearly destroyed him.

Oh but his turnaround came in a force to be reckoned with and packaged beautifully with an immeasurable reward. Kiana loved him with all her might and their journey to love is beautiful and definitely steamy! 💝😜🔥

Well done Author Monica Walters, I loved it!

Suspenseful & Emotional

First off, I love Monica and her catalog so much. I am LATE to the party.

The love that Lazarus had was and is what a true king means. Jamie was worthy and he stayed true to himself....Despite the obstacles, his true helpmate came in and was a TRUE ride or die.

This is my first review and purchase (ebook and audio). All of Monica's books are captivating.

No two people were ever made for each other! Lazarus and Kianna hearts knew each other. They just needed the vengeful ex, controlling parents, and hypocritical people to fall in line. What’s meant to be doesn’t even need to be explained!
Pick up this book! I can’t wait for the side characters and updates! Bravo, Monica Walters! 👏🏽👏🏽❤️❤️

Kiana and Lazarus

This book was a lovely tear jurker. I cried like I was Kiana. I’m so glad that this couple made it through. Kiana’s parents and Jamie made me want to snatch them up. I’m glad her parents came around and Lazarus mom had their backs. I can’t wait for Kinisha’s story.

I absolutely love all of Monica Walters books! As a resident of one of the cities she mentions in all of her books, I read her books with so much pride. I love how she can write an amazing plot while still giving the perfect touch of eroticism. As usual, I give this book 5 stars!

Jamie know she was a selfish some some she didn't have to do Lazarus the way she did him. But momma sure did set her tail up but, the header still didn't change. I'm lad that Kiana parents came around because her Lazarus was what each other needed.

Loved Laz! His ex and them parents can catch fire. How can you literally disown your adult daughter because she’s dating someone you disapprove of due to age alone. That’s crazy. Glad they came around because Jesus was NOT pleased with her dad’s behavior.
