After being missing for two years, Gracie returns home with no memory of what has happened, where she’s been or her life before she left. With old memories and unfinished business, some of the people in Gracie’s life don’t quite believe her story. The truth differs through each pair of eyes and perspective is everything. But who’s truth is the right one?
Decide for yourself but remember, the damsel can’t always be in distress and anyone can be the villain in someone else’s story…
Sophie is a freelance editor and writer/ waitress. After 4 years of university, gaining a BA in Creative Writing and a MA in Publishing, Sophie decided to start freelancing as a writer/ editor alongside her job in hospitality, which lead her to starting her business Sophie's Proof, which offers proofreading and editing services to manuscripts.
The Way Back has been a work in progress since Sophie was 16. After working with some amazing authors in her business, Sophie decided it was time to publish her own work. As a writer, Sophie was expecting to receive rejection but after only a few responses and radio silence from most of her submissions (which were a lot), she decided to self publish. The thought of The Way Back being stuck in a 'sludge' pile of unread manuscripts forever not only haunted her but she knew Gracie wouldn't stand for that, so neither should she. A scary decision, but it was time to get it out into the world after all this time.
As a writer, Sophie likes to experiment with structure and play around with style to create something different. In the Way Back, structure plays a very big part in the story in revealing major plots and twists throughout. This is something Sophie hopes she can continue in the future with other work, so any support you can give would be appreciated in lifting her debut book off the ground.
I really enjoyed this. The story starts with Andy, seemingly being interviewed by the police after his girlfriend has suddenly turned up after being missing for the last 2 years. Gracie is back and has no memory of where she has been, or who everyone is.
We hear from Andy, his mum Penny, her best friend Connor who is Gracie's dad, and Louis, a troublemaker from the past. Each section was written in each person's perspective as they seeked to find out where exactly Gracie has been and try to help her recall them and past encounters.
Very much a page turner, very easy to read due to the way it was written, even showing old conversations being recalled from time past. Soon it is revealed where Gracie was, and that everyone may not indeed be who they say they are! I didn't expect the outcome which is always a bonus! Out on 6th May, please help support this young lady as she is bravely self publishing!
Brilliant book! I was kindly sent this by Sophie pre-debut and it got me hooked from the start, finishing it within a day. Sophie manages to encapsulate the reader by telling a story from multiple perspectives, making it a real page turner. Highly recommend!
This book was such a pageturner from the start! I was so intrigued. I liked the jumps between past and present. Such an easy book to dive into with twists and unexpected turns.
I kindly won this book in a competition held by the author, Sophie Tate on Instagram a couple of months ago and finally got around to reading it. I enjoyed this book and how Tate uses various points of view in the chapters with the story first starting off with Andy and how he views the reappearance of his girlfriend Gracie after two years missing. In the subsequent chapters the story is told from the perspective of Andy, then his mum Penny, Gracie's father Connor, Louis a troublemaker and then Gracie. Each chapter is set around that person's perspective seeking the truth on what happened Gracie and how she interacts with them.
My favorite chapters were Gracie's at the end of the book and the complexity of her character. I will admit that when I was introduced to Gracie in the other characters chapters I didn't like her and found her character quite self-centred and kind of a brat! But as you go through the book, the reader finds out more and the plot gets very interesting! At times as you are seeing the plot develop through various characters, sometimes the plot was quite repetitive but with little tad bits of extra information.
Definitely a page turner and very easy to read! I would recommend if you want a fast paced book that will keep you on your toes!

I was kindly sent this book and I honestly really enjoyed it! First of all can I say that the author is also lovely and very very kind.
I really quite enjoyed the mystery in this book, as well as the subtle romance sub plot. The characters are very well developed and we really get to know them through the multiple POV the author used to approach this book. Sometimes the POVs made the chapters feel ever so slightly repetitive but overall I think it really adds to the suspense of the plot and although you find out so much detail etc. you never really know whether your suspicions might be the real thing. Very well done! The male love interests were a bit obsessive and possessive for my taste but I do think it adds to the plot nicely, and makes it very realistic. Not all book characters are perfect, just like in real life. The book was left on a cliffhanger so I am very excited to find out what happens next and it fills me with a lot of confidence that there is a lot of in depth suspense and mystery coming our way. Quite excited for the sequel if I am honest. I felt the book could have been wrapped up slightly nicer but overall that’s really just a side note, and this book really got me thinking.
I saw the authors tiktok and decided to read the book knowing nothing about it. I have to say I read it pretty quickly and I enjoyed the story but I feel like it ended so abruptly that now I’m just left confused with a million questions.
I think this definitely could’ve benefited from an editor. There was a lot of errors with grammar, incorrect words used and sometimes words in the wrong order so the sentence didn’t make sense.
I kind of hope there’s a second book so we know what happened.
This book was great! Really hooks you in from the beginning. I love the psychological elements of the book, my mind was truly blown! Definitely recommend reading if you love psychological books! Can’t wait for the next book!!!
