Organized chronologically by each poet's year of birth, with a brief biography and introduction; some of these bio-intros are as memorable as the poems themselves.
I had no idea I would love an anthology like I did this. It was such a rich reading experience over the year - I loved the little intro to each author, and the knowledge of someone from not that long ago that I feel has now passed from keeping: the songs that 'everybody' knew and sung that were originally these poems; tidbits like 'this is the most popular and most read poem in the English language'; loving a poet and knowing and memorizing their poetry despite the inevitable, and regrettable, real-life short-comings of said poet . . . many of these I would never have chosen to pick up on my own, and it was fascinating and rewarding to see someone else's choices for remembered poems.
I took to encouraging poetry readings whenever we had someone over to our table this year, and everyone loved reading from this anthology - it is just something special. Highly, highly recommend.
