Rate this book
Harper's an uptight, writer's-blocked storyteller working on an impossible deadline, who needs some inspiration and some zest in his life before he implodes. He desperately needs some personal attention and the TLC of a muse. Lucky for him, he finds one. In his kitchen. Naked and energetic, and hungry to be used - in every way possible.

It takes a little doing, but the muse, Rory, convinces Harper he's not having a psychotic break with reality. Then he proceeds to turn Harper's life upside-down and inside-out, with his blazing creative energy and spicy nights between the sheets (or on the floor, or in the shower, and once or twice in public). Trouble is, Rory's only on loan. Once Harper finishes his masterwork, he has to go back.

If Harper doesn't want the amazing man he's come to love to be taken away from him, he's going to have to find inspiration on his own to figure out how to bend the rules.

Note:This book contains explicit sexual content, graphic language, and situations that some readers may find objectionable: Anal play/intercourse, male/male sexual practices.

As the title says, this is a very "amusing" book. The expedient of the artist's muse who unexpectedly appears in front of his owner it's not new, and new isn't either the fact that the muse and the artist fall in love... the novelty is that the tale is a funny one, and not the usual fated sad ending one. This is the double faced side of Willa Okati's works: she can write very angst tales (A Year and a Day, for example), but also iper funny romps (like Strange Places).

Harper writes script for television. He is creating a new plot for a series, his last chance to success; he has some scarce idea, but he is not heading to a good end. Until the morning he finds his muse, his naked muse, on his kitchen counter making coffee. Rory is a very handsome, hyperactive muse, who has made some mistakes in the past; Harper is his new "mission", and this time he shouldn't fail, since fail means that he will "puff" in the empty space.

Maybe since he is a bit crazy, like all the artist, Harper soon overcomes the shock to find a naked man in his kitchen, and starts to see the positive things... other than obviously the fact that the naked man is well hung and quite handsome. All seems perfect, if not for the little problem represented by the Clerk, alias Rory's boss, a man by the book in any means, who admonishes Harper that Rory is only on borrow, and that once Harper will find again his inspiration, Rory must go on his next "mission".

Even if there is this Damocle's sword pending on Harper's head, the book is quite funny, and even the villain, Patrick, is too nice to be a real danger. As in other books I read by Willa Okati, the supporting characters are almost as interesting as the main ones: Lisa, Rory's colleague, and Janie, Rory's boss, concur for the role of "best girl friend" of Rory; Patrick is an ex that probably most of us would like to have (as an ex of course, since as boyfriend material he sucks...); and even Artemas, Rory's turtle, has some main scenes and cues worthy of a prize (yes, the turtle "talks", even if not in a "human" way...). Actually the characters without "spoken" cues, are almost the most interesting, like the coffee vendor... this is the strenght of the book, and one of Willa Okati's, the ability to create a cacophonous world full of color, flavour and flash, all mixed together in a blur that, I don't know how, produces a complete output with a lot of sense.

I cannot possibly overstate how much I adore this book. I have read it so often that, if it weren't an ebook, it would have no covers anymore. It is in my Top 5 Books of All Time. Considering how much I read, that's HUGE. So I thought I'd finally get around to posting a review of it.

Harper writes for a television show, and he's so stressed out that his writer's block is EPIC. So epic that his inner muse is made corporeal to help him out.

Rory, his muse, helps Harper relax. Then he helps Harper through his writer's block. That helps Harper land the job opportunity of a lifetime.

But Rory can't help Harper with everything, and when push comes to shove Harper doesn't even know if he wants the help anymore. Because Rory has an expiration date in Harper's life - once the writer's block is totally worked through and the contract signed Rory will disappear. No matter how much Rory - and Harper - want him to stay.

Add in a by-the-book Clerk that lives to enforce the rules governing muses, a boss that makes hurricanes look tame, an ex that will stoop to any level to advance his career, and a best friend who wishes for a happy ending with all her cynical heart and you've got a supporting cast worthy of the leads. Hell, even Harper's pet turtle adds to the fun!

Okati has a flair for adding mystical/paranormal aspects to her stories that are unusual (not a lot of vamps and werewolves, for instance), yet work out beautifully. A-Muse-Ing is no exception.

The sex is hot, as you'd expect, but honestly my favorite part is the rapid-fire way the leads talk to each other. The banter is AMAZING. The one-liners and naughty quips had me giggling throughout the entire story. The characters are fully realized, flaws and all, and I was rooting for them to make it from their very first interaction.

Like I said, one of my very favorite books ever, by any author, in any genre. If you haven't read it I highly recommend it!

Thoroughly enjoyed this story of a writer and his muse. Funny but also sad in places as befits a tale of impossible love.
As an early example of the genre this books was chock full of sex, maybe too much for me but it was all sexy.

I did find this story amusing. It was just that. Nothing more.
I didn't laugh, but I did giggle and chuckle through out the book. So , yeah, it did brighten my day.

I enjoyed this book a lot, I only wish it were longer as there's so much to love and would have liked too have seen more of their relationship develop. There's an interesting theme and the fantasy aspect is a lot of fun, rather unique and fitting to the story.

Rory and Harper have amazing chemistry, plenty of amazing moments between them from writing the scripts and all of the steamy scenes. They fit together so well and the ending was perfect, it was great how they worked the system to their benefit. I love that they get their happy ending together, it's a super sweet and feel good read.

By far one of my favourite M/M erotic romance ebooks! It happens to be the first one I read, at the insistence of a friend, and I've been hooked ever since and writing my own fiction, just hoping I'll affect someone with my book the way this one affected me. Next time I re-read it, I'll write a more thorough review. Promise.

I read this book long before I joined Goodreads and absolutely loved it. The interplay between Rory and Harper was funny, sad, loving. It made for a great story. To this day it remains very high on my favorites list.

Snappy, smart writing here and a lot of reasons to laugh along with an impossible-made-possible love story. Highly recommended.

I started this book and I suddenly noticed it was a comedy-romance. Well, what the hell, I even laughed here and there. But it's nothing more than funny, quick read.
